  • Where I show casting on and knitting the ribbing of the sock. If people are interested I may make another video showing how I make the remaining parts of the sock.
Here is the pattern I used, which was free on the internet.
    www.knitting-an...
And I also recommend a book by Cat Bordhi called "Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles", which is how I learned the method I use. They sell it on Amazon. Here is her YT site:
    / catbordhi
    And about her book...
    www.catbordhi.c...
And finally, these are the online video instructions I used for the three needle bind-off:
    www.knittinghel...
Go to the page and scroll all the way to the bottom. There is a video demonstrating the three-needle bind-off in Continental and English Styles, I knit Continental. This is a great site to learn techniques you might read about in a pattern, but have no idea how to do it. For example, when someone ends their pattern (like this one I used) with the instructions, "Graft sts. together ( I used 3 needle bind off). Sew in loose ends." And you say, "Huh?" Then just go to the site above and you'll find out how! It's an easy way to bind off, makes a nice seam too. It's also the bind-off I use when attaching knitted arms to the bodies of my knitted sweaters.
Ok, that's enough, your brain my be full and mine is empty. Must have more coffee....

I LOVE using 2 circular needles for socks, hats, and mitts! Best method for me!

I absolutely love this video. I am fairly new to knitting and really want to make socks. I am a bit intimidated by the patterns I have read, but I think maybe this slipper sock would be a good one to start with because the yarn and needles are bigger. Then maybe move on to smaller needles and yarn. Thanks so much for posting this video! And the pattern, I'm going to try this one very soon. I have to finish the shawl I am making for my mom first! LOL Happy Knitting!

Yes, it is called Magic Loop Method. There are lots of videos, but I reccomend the Knit Picks one. It is the best explanation.

so much better than using 100 different needles!

I have Addi's in every size except the new lace sizes. Someday I want to try them too, but I have SO MANY needles it's hard to justify buying more. ;-)
Because of being diabetic I always either use two needles or one large needle to do the cast on edge so the top of the sock doesn't hinder circulation.
Cool, I've never seen anyone else cast on like I do, most cast on to one circular needle and then separate the stitches in half and put the second half on a second needle.

Hi Liz! Because socks are so small, compared to a sweater or something where you would just use one circular needle, a lot of people use 4 or 5 double pointed needles. The way I show is faster, at least for me. I find each time you switch to a new needle takes time when using the double pointed and I often have stiches slide off the ends. But it's purely a matter of taste. There is also the Magic Loop method where you use one very long circ and knit both socks at once. I haven't tried that yet.

Judy most of the yarn I buy, I buy on the internet. Which is easier after you know what you are looking for. There are a lot of wools that are Merino and blends, like Merino and silk. I'm using two strands of sport weight yarn for these because I wanted a thicker sock and didn't have any worsted weight in Merino. There are TONS of sock yarns on the market. Some come in varigated and are "self-striping" which means as you knit it makes a pattern. "Super-wash" means you can machine wash and dry.

I love the video, thank you. And the half time " Booty Shake" was awesome. Nothing like a good chuckle halfway so thank you for that too.

Yes, very much like a baby weight yarn. If you Google "sock yarn" you will find plenty. There are so many kinds it is hard to suggest just one. And. if you find a sock pattern you really like you can always adjust the gauge to any yarn so it will fit the pattern. Good luck! :-)

If I had that much time to devote to making videos I would never get anything knit! I'm a vlogger first, these videos are just for fun, I'm not trying to out do any other knitting videos, hell, I don't even have time to watch others videos. If I wanted it to be a profession I would quit work...not going to happen. Please watch the videos with the spirit of fun they were made with...

@zafdip LOL!!!! In my real job I'd get fired if I talked to every idiot like they were idiots, so I guess it now comes naturally! Besides, knitters, even beginner knitters, are NEVER idiots, only learning at different speeds. Some of us are visual learners (like me). Glad you enjoyed my vid. I hope to make more as the winter comes and life (hopefully) slows down!

@lizwashington1 Hi, great you got one sock done! I often get "second sock syndrome" and don't finishe the second one. So keep at it! ;-) Next time I make socks I will have to do the rest of the sock. I've been working on a baby blanket for my newest grandaughter. I'll be posting a vid of that tonight or tomorrow I hope! Gotta edit it still.

That's a great knitting philosophy-knit until it becomes a sock, then stop! I've only seen just this one video of yours, so I am curious to know if you ever made a video just of the cast on method you used. I've never seen the step you take of putting one stitch on the other side of the needles and another stitch over that one. I bet it avoids "ladders"!

i am in australia and the guages for yarn are different....i don't understand what sport weight is...is it lighter? like for baby knits? i have knit and crochet for years but never tried socks and want to get it right.....i guess i could practice with anything really? what do you suggest?

@Sqbrt Hi there, I was using two of the same needles, but different lengths, that way you can easily tell which you are using. Since the vid is old and YT has reformated where the description is, instead of on the right, open up underneath the video and you will find the link to the free pattern...if it still works! All kinds of info there when you open it up and read. Glad you liked the video!

Sorry about the motion sickness! Here are some virtual Dramamine pills for you! oooooo I'm not a professional and I'm the first one to admit I'm a far better knitter than I am a videographer! Do you knit? If you make a video let me know so I can learn how to improve mine. Thanks for watching!

I have done sweater videos on UA-cam. You can look in my "Knitting Vlogs Playlist" on my channel page and see them. But there are many instructional videos that are more professional than mine if you search the internet. I'm always available for specific questions, too.

Okay, so first you do knitting rock and now knitting porn. Hmmmm. :D Well okay, it was a nice butt. Seriously though, what is the benefit of the two needles instead of just using the circular needles? Or is that because of the small size? My friend who got really far in the Sock Wars uses 4 needles to make them and kicks it for speed. Are these faster? I'm sending her a link to your video cuz anything that would make her socks faster would help her win the next SW. :) Great video.
