You fell for Taoran's sophistry. Lan rose to Aeonhood as a counterbalance to the Abundance. You can't have infinite growth in a finite universe, the Hunt is basically population control for the undying Abundance followers. The Xianzhou Alliance is an Alliance of ex-Abundance followers who renounced the Abundance and voluntarily apply strict population limit on themselves. The fact that the Alliance exist at all is proof enough that Lan's Hunt isn't indiscriminate and have a more complex logic than just eliminating all traces of Abundance. Lan also made the distinction between Foxian and Borisin, don't forget the Galaxy Rangers who are blessed by Lan while having absolutely nothing to do with the Hunt against Abundance. The dialogue with Taoran highlights a cultural difference between Vidyadhara and the rest of the Xianzhou. While they are all long-lived, the Vidyadhara descended from Long, they don't have any history (and taboo) with the Abundance. While the Vidyadhara consider their ancestry as somewhat of a curse, the Alliance see a self-balancing reproduction cycle for a long-lived species. While the Alliance is fanatically committed to the Hunt against Abundance, the Vidyadhara see a wasteful war that's slowly decreasing their numbers.

I don't think it's just Lan but Hooh (the equilibrium) also keeps a close eye on them so neither of them gets too strong, keeping the life and death balance intact
I mean it’s said that paths and ideas never die so if one were to go poof hooh may intervene and ascend someone new to aeon hood. Their emanators are the closest things to embodying their path, and while the ascension may not be immediate in the scale of the HSR universe it’ll be immediate.

I have a theory that is disconnected from this, but i think Aha and IX are related and they might even be paired. My idea is that Aha is that climbed the Tree of Existence and witnessed the pointlessness of everything, but rather than falling to the despair of Nihility, THEY saw a baby fall and cry, which THEY found hilarious. I see this as either a response to IX's shadow falling on Aha, or IX being born from witnessing the same void and having the opposite reaction. I could even see them ascending at the same time. If they didn't, IX would be first, which would also make Aha the ultimate Doctor of Chaos
I do love this theory so much! It’s kinda rare to see people linking Nihility & Elation together tbh even though Elation is legit the combination of Hedonism & Absurdism. Absurdism and Nihilism are legit almost same thing but in different side of coin! I feel like that Aha is a different version of Nihility's "meaningless", which lies in a different belief. There's nihilism, but then there's also absurdism. Absurdism is a philosophical outlook that explores the contradiction between the human desire for meaning and the indifferent, chaotic nature of the universe. The life you live is irrational and sometimes devoid of true meaning/purpose, and yet it is also a free one

Nothing is stopping Lan from going after another target once Yaoshi is (hypothetically) killed, he is just a single target unit. Even Feixiao wants to kill a Lord Ravager now after dealing with Hoolay, next target could easily be the path of destruction.
This could be a hinting of the 3rd way to kill an Aeon that Kafka never revealed And with the end of 2.5,we know that Jingliu and Luocha planned to kill Yashi using the corpse of Tazzyronth So maybe with the 3rd time coming back to Xianzhou we would be partook in an Aeon war against Yaoshi,successfully killing it but in the process removing the meaning of existence of Lan and facing the consequences with the Alliance after the fall of Lan(either they just move on or withness the birth of a new one) with the residue of both paths allows us to gey both Hunt TB and Abundance TB
My theory is after the abundance is gone lans main target will be the destruction and that’s why elio wanted us to help the alliance in the normal timeline lan is likely unable to stop fighting the abundance before the universe is destroyed though my guess is there will be some time in between when they know what lan wants to do next and this is where we will see the infighting between the generals be at its worst

I don’t believe that if Lan were to slay Yaoshi and THEIR followers, that THEY would stop and find respite, THEY would just move on to the next biggest “evil”. For as heroic and valiant Lan and The Hunt might appear, THEY lead a path that only breeds more rage and resentment.
Its not really a problem since theres HooH that will create another Path that would counteract the Hunt. If Yaoshi dies, I'm pretty sure Ruan Mei is gonna ascend into Aeonhood with a path related to Life like Yaoshi.

Unfortunately for the alliance they are lock into an enternal war until they all die out or atleast until they no longer have ships or weapons to fight. And if they do kill manage to kill yaoshi, nanook and their legion exist so lan might try to target them this dragging them in to another endless war.
If Lan kills Yaoshi, then nothing will change globally - Lan has risen in hatred of abundance and has created a path opposite to abundance. Even if the hunter kills Yaoshi, abundance will remain, albeit greatly weakened as an idea and will lose most of its danger. But the hunt will also become insignificant and local. And Lan's personal goal - to kill the Aeon of Abundance has been achieved and as a result they have no reason to be active (unless they have new personal enemies). In general, this is another Chinese symbolism: Yin and Yang. Where one cannot exist without the other. That is why if Lan achieves his revenge - Lan will simply become less active.
I think that our favourite Aeon duo, Terminus and Hooh, are involved in this, like with all Aeons. Specifically, Hooh. I believe that as the Path of Equilibrium has been what guides Hooh's actions, Hooh itself guides other Aeons to ensure they maintain their Paths. As such, I believe the Path of Equilibrium only grants Hooh the power it requires for the missions it takes on, allowing Hooh to have the definite capabilities to ensure that the Paths are maintained. Unless said Aeon is terrible and has to be eradicated in which it will just work to ensure that there will be a power to stop the Aeon and Path and something to maintain Equilibrium in the aftermath. This is what's happening now. The Hunt is an eternal slaughter and the Abundance is eternal life. So, Equilibrium is ensuring both are alive so they can balance each other out
What I genuinely fear is the question of "What if Lan wasn't the one who dealt the final blow to Yaoshi?". THEY basically ended up a god due to revenge and has basically been stripped of anything else, forever bound to the concept. Imagine if you basically lost everything and spent your whole life hunting the one who caused it, only for someone else to defeat them "for you". Most people would just think "ah, its over". Others would spiral out of control and go for the one who "took their kill because your target didn't die at /your/ hands
Unrelated, but I definitely believe that Lan the Hunt in origin has nothing to do with the Xiangshou. If he did, I’m pretty sure he’d look more like Xiangshou’s aesthetic, but no, there’s nothing there.
As far as I'm aware, Lan is out to hunt the Abominations of Abundance, not Yaoshi THEMSELVES. That would explain why The Hunt has never ceased, as the Aeon was never the target
There's this whole "aeons come in pairs", like how it's obvious that Hunt and Abudance is a pair, or that Destruction and Preservation are a pair. This is for balance to exist. The hunt is all about hunting, however, if you just hunted everything in the universe, it'd be too dangerous. However, kill the "abundance", which is when there is too much of something, it balances out. The Abundance keeps too many things alive at once due to the semi immortality granted, the Hunt kills them so that there will never be too much
perhaps it is that for Lan to perpetuate its own existence it would need prey to hunt, and Yaoshi being immortal makes her the perfect prey for Lan without needing to go through the hassle of switching targets after every "successful hunt".
Lan and yaoshi are made for each other. An aeon and path focused on persistently chasing and another aeon and path that's the personification of immortality.😅 Historians will say they were great friends or great enemies
As someone who believes the end goal for the Trailblazer is becoming an Aeon I think Lan is part of their future path. Something bigger than just exploration, or vengeance. Every journeys end is another’s beginning after all.

Elation's counterpoint is the Order which Elation killed via absorption of Harmony. Elation is basically Freedom and Selfishness.

THEY basically ended up a god due to revenge and has basically been stripped of anything else, forever bound to the concept. Imagine if you basically lost everything and spent your whole life hunting the one who caused it, only for someone else to defeat them "for you". Most people would just think "ah, its over". Others would spiral out of control and go for the one who "took their kill because your target didn't die at /your/ hands

As far as I'm aware, Lan is out to hunt the Abominations of Abundance, not Yaoshi THEMSELVES.

There's this whole "aeons come in pairs", like how it's obvious that Hunt and Abudance is a pair, or that Destruction and Preservation are a pair. This is for balance to exist.
The hunt is all about hunting, however, if you just hunted everything in the universe, it'd be too dangerous. However, kill the "abundance", which is when there is too much of something, it balances out. The Abundance keeps too many things alive at once due to the semi immortality granted, the Hunt kills them so that there will never be too much
perhaps it is that for Lan to perpetuate its own existence it would need prey to hunt, and Yaoshi being immortal makes her the perfect prey for Lan without needing to go through the hassle of switching targets after every "successful hunt".
