When the last episode of HxH ended, and it started playing the original opening, was when I realized how nostalgic that opening had become.

A new Guilty Crown fan?! 13 years after it came out?! This has made my year.
I find myself fully agreeing with your perspective on music and the memory of experiences, I usually listen to certain songs when I read certain books to tie those songs with the memory of the book for this exact reason.

Ngl OSTs were perfect and the show was genuinely interesting from a thematic standpoint.
But MC sucked for so long that it was so hard to recommend this to people. Sure he has become better but those days I just wanted some badass mc and Shu was definitely not one of them Lol (insane to think I still remember Ouma Shu’s and Yuzuriha Inori’s name, I liked the anime a lot nonetheless)

For me, the biggest hit was "Weight of the World", the credits song during Nier:Automata. I dont want to spoil the final ending (yes theres multiple endings, this is the final finall one) but it is the culmination of the entirety of your playthrough coming back to you during this sequence that I'll never forget

I started to stop skipping intros and endings (unless it was boring or bad). Because I realized the memory and effect of hearing the same tune every week… till it stops. That hits differently.
When a show you’ve been engaged with week on week ends, you have different emotions about the op and ed. and boy, when they pull out the first opening song for a scene, especially very late in the story, hits right in the guts.

I started watching Arcane because of OST I've heard before but now I'm just not able to listen to "Goodbye" or "Guns for Hire" calmly.
Also, main theme of Paladins is forever in my hearth. Even though the game is even in worth state than Overwatch, this music sounds inspiring instead of bittersweet.
Worth mentioning: the whole music department of MiHoYo and HoyoVerse. I love you, people.

Maybe a bit of an odd pick, but "This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars.
I'd listened to it *many* times before, but SAO Abridged managed to, by the end of the first season, completely recontextualise that song into ITS song, to the point where I now primarily associate it with that series even though I'd spent, collectively, hours listening to that song before SAO Abridged ever entered my life.

I get this feeling with Dyschronia's 3rd ending song, MEMENTO by YuNi.
The somber tone of the song, the context it has with the ending of the game, it all puts tears in my eyes. I won't spoil the ending in case anyone wants to play the game themselves, but the credits confirming the implications of the ending just twist the knife for me, and it all fits.
Not only that, but the last line of lyrics in MEMENTO is the exact same line that starts off CROSS MY HEART, the 1st ending theme to the game, also performed by YuNi. The lines matching just twist that knife even more, and it's amazing

I always wondered why I didn't really like Gurren Lagann's OP when I first started it, but when they played it in the final fight I got chills and almost cried, and it was the hypest thing ever made. Still the best final fight of any anime ever made.

For me its the sountrack of Darling in the Franxx. I absolutely love that show despite its issues. Yes the second half is messy and feels like a diffrent show but oh man the music usage in this show is amazing. I finished rewatching it a few days ago for the first time since 2018 and ive been listening to several tracks from it on repeat. Each time i listen to them it helps visualize the best parts of the show for me, and I haven't really connected with an anime like that in years

I was gonna add Darling in the Franxx in the video...In fact if I didnt watch guilty crown recently it would have been there instead. The main inspiration of this video was from the opening, Kiss Of Death. Hearing the opening again brought back SO MUCH cherished memories from watching the anime. Just like you and guilty crown I absolutely love the show despite the issues with the 2nd half. But still these 2 anime are THE most beautiful anime I have ever watched and I will forever cherish them. Thank you for this comment. This actually got me to listen to the op again~

Fi's Farewell still hits close to home, even after the now over 10 years since I first heard it. Skyward Sword was my first 3D Zelda, and that song brought closure that what I still consider a masterpiece. Anyone who has beaten Persona 3 will tell you how beautiful the ending theme is. After I finished it I immediately looked up the ending theme on youtube and also found an amazing english cover by Sapphire and just knowing what the lyrics is about just made me cry. The song is about accepting that someone you hold dear is gone now but nonetheless cherishing what little time you spent together.
The story taught me that tragedies and goodbyes are plenty in life but nonetheless we should move forward with hope for those who came before and our future. And it so happens that i played it during a depressing and lonely time of my life so it really helped me get up on my feet and deal with my problems head on. Its peak

Great video! Wtf how is this not seen by more people. And yeah, it is insane how visceral one's reaction can be to a song idk. Like to this day I listen to between heaven and earth or other songs from fire emblem 3 houses, or even songs where you didn t spend much time with the characters but that just mark this moment of epicness, and I just get shivers, sometimes even tearing up. It's relistenting to those songs that allows one to briefly relive that moment of experiencing the medium for the first time, bringing about melancholy but also joy and nostalgia.

It is a thing that I feel Western animation has lost. Whereas anime continues to use distinct OP/ED and OSTs and work them throughout a series run (and commonly fading the ED in with the end of an episode or bringing the OP back as part of the climactic battle), Western cartoon series have lost this by just completely forgoing the development or licensing of distinctive series music.
