Maciel Hay's passion for shooting earned her the nickname “Sniper.” As an adult, she's managed to live up to that moniker by becoming the first female active-duty sniper in Army history. Hay graduated from the branch's notoriously difficult sniper school last month. When Hamna Zafar, 23, was just a teenager, her family flew to Pakistan for what she believed was a routine visit with relatives. Instead, she found herself in the middle of her own engagement party to a man - her cousin - handpicked by her immigrant parents. Rather than give up on her life in the United States, Zafar hatched a plan - to fly the coop and join the Air Force.

In 'that part of the World', marrying-off cousins to each other is fairly common.
It prevents the family, as a whole, from losing whatever comprises the dowry.
It also explains SO much.
shits pretty brutal honestly. i used to date a pakistani girl and she was faced with being disowned by her family, community, culture, and society if she refused to marry within her cast. her father even told her he would kill her due to bringing shame upon the family. not to mention all the pakistani girls who face abduction by their families.

Had a co-worker years ago, a Korean who had moved here with her family as a child. Working her way through college, gets a call from home that she needs to go home immediately. She drives for hours to get there, they lock her in a room and tell her she's being married off to the son of the farmer next door so they can combine their land or some stupid thing.
She escaped out the second story window in the middle of the night. Had to switch colleges and everything to keep them from kidnapping her and taking her back.
What a messed up situation.

Everyone hates the Air Force until they need that close air support.
It's like picking on your geeky little brother until you need help with your taxes or someone else screws with him.
Even when I was active duty in the Marine Corps, I don't recall anyone actually hating the Air Force. It was just inter-service rivalry joking around. Maybe there are Soldiers, Marines and Sailors who actually hate the USAF, but that's not something I personally encountered.
When I was a medic and we had to deal with some injured Army guys they razzed us relentlessly for the whole bus ride to our facility. When we finally got there and told them to go inside and sit down (some of them were on crutches) while we unloaded their bags, they all stood around confused and then made sure we really didn't want them to form up so we could count heads and make sure everybody was there. We asked why we'd do that. They stopped razzing us after that, and there was a lot of "Man, I should have joined the Air Force."
I was airborne. I was always grateful for the ride.

In all seriousness, we're talking about a Middle Eastern culture that arranges marriages, which leads me to believe they also have "punishments" for women who "dishonor" their family. Hopefully, she stays extra vigilant and keeps an eye on her six. Good on her for escaping those circumstances, but I can't help but worry for her safety, though. Hopefully, she has an abundance of people around her to keep her safe, and most importantly, I hope she carries a sidearm whenever and wherever she can legally do so.
Can’t do an honor killing in America, she can’t ever go back to Pakistani though.
She has an entire installation behind her, anyone tries to take her back is going to find after they fucked around
@ImperialSenpai like laws have stopped them before. Just because they can't doesn't mean they won't try. Especially if they believe the law of their religion is superior to our laws.
@@srbontrager True, but the Pakistani community in Britain is also starting to reject cousin marriages amongst the younger generation. Which I haven’t seen them do any honor killings for it, just some of them being upset that their kids/siblings don’t want to marry their cousins. I'm sure she knows about the honor "delete" and I'm sure she stays strapped.
Kind of nitpicking, but she's the first active duty female. The first was a guardsman a few months prior.
Not nitpicking.
Just Relevance. The only people who count NG accomplishments are guardsmen.
@@samrester6254 that's because AD hates being bested by NG. ;-) (Which happens more than they like to admit.)
@@oif3vetk9 Dude, honestly, never even gave NG a thought while active. Not being mean. Just was never a thing.
Can't compare those who live it 24/7 and those who put on the uniform 2 days a month, with the occasional deployment.
Again, nothing against NG but, if you ain't full time with all that entails, then you are not 'besting' any one.
@@samrester6254 I'll agree NG doesn't have to put up with all the stuff AD does but (And this goes both ways) unless one walks a mile in the others shoes it's a bit difficult to understand. There's a lot more that goes on with NG than people think. It's definitely more than two days a month or a two week AT. Personally, I was a fulltime federal tech for 21 of my 23 years. (Title 32 tech) You should see all the ways the NG got to screw us. lol
As to the besting remark, I'm not talking about in every aspect. I'm talking about how NG has beat AD (Repeatedly) in certain competitions that it would seem AD should beat NG readily.
The one area NG does seem to accelerate at though is what a NG unit can bring to the table in theater. AD is good at what they do because, as you said, they do the job every day. That's a bit of a problem though (From what I saw) because that's all they do. NG, and I'm speaking strictly from a support unit aspect, brings a lot of talent that isn't MOS specific. Example: I was in charge of 62 Bravos. (Hvy Eng Eqpt) By MOS we were supposed to work on construction equipment only but we worked on everything plus did vertical construction and all sorts of other odd jobs because my crew had such varied experience from their civilian jobs. We were the go to section of our unit when something needed to be done that wasn't within our units parameter to do. We also did a f ton of convoy SECFOR and the AD trans unit we escorted loved us. You could say we did our job well. Not bad for two day a month mechanics. ;-)
I'm not saying AD soldiers don't have the experience to do something other than their MOS, maybe its that NG can get away with a bit more in theater because AD command doesn't watch them as closely? (Again, talk support units)
The one thing I do feel bad for AD soldiers, get out of AD, come to NG thinking they have it made, then in short order that unit gets activated and they go downrange again. Happened to a friend of mine. He was 82nd, went to Afghan, came back, got out, enlisted in NG and within a month our unit was activated. Talk about bad timing.
The cousin thing is extremely common there. As a matter of fact, birth defects due to parents being related accounts for a huge double digit percentage of infant mortality.
Had a (Pakistani) high school classmate who married her cousin when she was in her early 20s. No idea how that turned out. I hope she's well.

I know why Zafar chose Security Forces. There's ALWAYS an opening for it and recruiters are desperate to fill that quota. The longest joke in Basic was if you chose open general for your job it was automatically Security Forces. Definitely happened to a buddy who wanted to be a dental assistant while we were in tech school.
I somehow got lucky. When I went in (I'm retired now, so it's been a while) I really wanted to be something medical, but they didn't have any medical slots open I wanted. I picked open general and was told by everybody that I'd end up being a cop. They made me a medic. Not sure how I dodged that bullet.
In the Army and Marines, open contract usually meant you were gonna be a cook.
I went in open general cuz there were no slots open for Aerial Gunner. Lo' and behold, Security Forces was what I got. Black hole career field of the Air Force. Bonus points if you got sent to Kadena, Minot, or Aviano. Those, back in 2013, were bases you were never leaving unless you volunteered for deployment.

You said Amn Zafar wanted to get into basic training as soon as possible, which means she probably went in without a guaranteed job meaning "open general." And AC you know as well as I do that the military is going to put you where they need you. Most times in the Air Force if you choose open general, you're going to get Security Forces.

I joined the army to get away from my dad. I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. I know I didn't want to go to college and I sure as f*** didn't want to stay home so I dove head first into the army and never looked back. Best choice I ever made. It's not for everybody but it's the only way for some
Same here. Grew up in a basically parentless household that ended up with me briefly being homeless at 17. Enlisted in the Army on delayed entry and flew out a week after graduation. That decision set me up for life, allowing me to buy a home at 21, start a family and get a great career as a civilian. It also allowed me to travel to broken nations, which made me love our country more and appreciate the American way of life. Now, in law enforcement, I often try to guide troubled youth to the military, especially when they tell me they have nowhere to go because of where they're from. The military isn't for everybody, but it does provide the opportunity and resources to start over fresh, even when you don't have a dollar to your name.

That's the problem with a lot of immigration unfortantly. They want to live here but they don't want to be American, they want to still be whatever culture they escaped from, ignoring the fact that often times, their old culture is why their old countries is the way that it is. And that American culture is why America is the way that it is.
I will say cases like her's are still a rarity in the US. Most immigrants assimilate into American society because the American Dream is open to all. America is still a young nation that finds values in every corner of the world to enrich itself. Unlike in Europe where cultures inevitably clash, often times violently, due to the host country's centuries of entrenched values along with the immigrant's country's entrenched values that span centuries.

By passing sniper school, do you mean the instructors had their finger on the scale, making sure she passed.
go test her and find out👀👀
Without a doubt
@@sillygoose4263sounds scary...better to just comply with the narrative.

love your stuff, man. My husbands, wife and I quote you from time to time at each other lmfao
My dad was 2nd Squadron 1st Cav in Vietnam. I got to see him get his golden spurs in 2018 in Colorado Springs. Better late than never for him and others. No horses to mount for the ceremony. Most couldn’t get up in there at their age anyway. It kind of became the joke of the evening. Best part was when I was passing by on soldier who just got his spurs and he says “oh boy! Cowboys and Indians”. He was in his full Native American outfit. I laugh about still today. He was a character. My dad said he would crack all kinds of jokes like that. Of course he had to say one to me to get me to laugh. It worked. 🤣
Don’t they ask you why you joined during a shark attack? I bet her response would disrupt that a tiny bit.
And it’s Hy Hy Hay. These 3 are on their way😂
I both hate this joke, but love it.
The Airman was extremely lucky. I am personally aware of a situation where a Pakistani man took his two biological daughters and one step-daughter (all American citizens) to Pakistan and left them there. The oldest was 9. Like the Airman, it seems like the plan was to eventually marry them off. They were trapped there for three years, until miraculously the FBI successfully rescued them.
That Air Corps joke had me dying 🤣🤣
My son did excellent on the range.
They asked him how he learned to shoot.
He told them the truth,” Red Ryder BB gun“
But they didn’t believe him.
Awesome!
As an Air Force retiree, "F you back" Angry Cop.
😅
Old enough to appreciate the comedic timing of the Sally Field drop in, that was beautiful
Do not worry, sarn't! My closest friends gave me a nickname because it sounded like my last name as well: "Poor asshole". I made the mistake of telling that to someone within earshot of my senior drill instructor.
Hahaha!
Lol most certainly one of the most carefully worded videos I have seen by him
Careful AC, offering to send a woman a "lick split care package" could be considered sexual harassment.
Mad respect if she passed everything without standards being lowered for her, of overlooking her inability to do the EXACT same performance as the men. A friend of mine left our weapons platoon to be a Marine Sniper, and we was a hard dude, and said it was the hardest thing he ever did. Getting the paper without earning it is BS.
I read stories of people who escaped this kind of thing and it's funny when they say that the Western hotel chains and brands in these places know this is a problem and have protocols to help. Like the guest can stay in their room and have everything they need delivered. Security of course prevent people from just walking into the hotel. They would help contacting the consulate or embassy so that you can get your replacement passports and such. Security escorts if you need to leave the hotel, etc ....
So, it may be worth it to find out the nearest Marriott or Hilton. Keep your documents and wallets around you and some cash.
I had a battle who's parents were from India who moved to Canada, then to the USA and had him were Hindu religion based and so was he. Fast forward to when he meet and married his Christian wife and he became a Christian himself which in turn had his parents denounced him and kicking him out of their family. I was like WTF that was crazy but I guess they were hard core Hindus so no surprise there I guess.
good job!! great show!! merry Xmas!!
My wife is a fellow Navy veteran and Army National Guard veteran. She's pretty damned gangst!!! Her name is Dora but her gangsta name is "Dra."
Arnold is hot trash...as a politician, friggin calm down...his movie's are legit
Did they "dumb down" the school like they have for EVERY OTHER school they have done?
I'm digging these cut away clips
I basically use your channel for news, and I'm loving it
Meal prep sponser are odd (though I get why you take them, not a bad sponser all things considered). Moderately wealthy people who don't have enough time to cook but aren't financially smart enough to meal prep or commit to buying healthy take out.
Not to mention you'd have to eat 2-3 meals at a time if you're active...
2 awesome stories about 2 awesome female soldiers
I'm currently writing my Master's Thesis on the United States Army Air Corp... I want to say the same thing right now!!! I'm also retired Army.
That f u Air Force joke killed me. Great content
Awesome POBs! It took her 2 tries to fire Expert? Huh? I grew up shooting and reloading and firing Expert was probably the easiest part of basic, for me! When my DIs learned I could shoot, they stopped making me do so many push ups. I had to wear a P on my helmet so every time a DI went by I had to drop and do push-ups until they were tired. 1980s US Army was fun!
Cool basic training story, bro.
