You can calculate the volume of the original intercooler versus the EVO...The difference in volumen will be your efficiency gain. Another data I measure was the intake temp with the original versus the one with the uppgrade. To uppgrade my 2.0 I purchase another original intercooler, I modified the power steering cooling line ( I deleted all the front line and add a radiator) and put the extra interccoler connected in tandem with the original. I calculate the sum of the 2 interccolers and they exceeds the dO88 intercooler volume. Of course was a lot more work then just replacing by an EVO one...Soldering the power steering line was a nightmare cause I don't have means to solder those lines...
DDAAAAAAMMMMMMNNNNN!!!!!!! You beat me to it. That's my next installment on my v6 Saab. Finished with the motor and am about to reinstall onto the car with the Evo intercooler from my Saab 9-3 Linear and you beat me to it!!!!!!! Ordered my DO88 turbo pipe and coolant lines. BTW, I am interested. Wanted to let the one in my Linear stay in there, so hit me up!!!!!!
Ceramic coated*, not powder coated pipes, the difference is important in this engine bay lol. My guess is the change youre feeling on the throttle response is due to the Evo intercooler cooling the air down quicker and more efficiently, combined with the piping remaining cool due to the ceramic coating. The ECU will recognize the lower IATs, and take full advantage. Not to mention the air coming in is going to have a much nicer pathway with the smooth do88 pipes, leading to more air being moved overall and the smoother linearity to the powerband. Overall, both modifications work in perfect harmony to give you the better driving feel youre getting. Excellent work on the Evo intercooler, thats probably the cleanest install of one of those I've ever seen. One last thing, you're doing your new IC and pipes a disservice by not putting a catch can on the car; over time your new ic and pipes will get gummed up with oil blowby from the front valve cover. If you would like, I can give you very detailed instructions on how to install a catch can, and could even do a little collab if you wanted to do a video about it (granted it would have to be virtual). -Zavier
I sometimes accidentally use powdercoat and ceramic coat interchangeably, so thank you for the clarification Zavier! Installing a catch can is a great idea and I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on how to properly install one. Can you please email me at weakestofweeks@gmail.com and we can discuss. Thanks!
Catch can, external engine oil cooler, uppgraded intercooler, ceramic coated exhaust manifold and downpipe, upgradded downpipe and intake are the best mods anyone with a turbo engine car could for best performance, Best one intercooler mod must be an air to water one.
I know this is a year old buddy, But I did a comparison on the intercooler cores on the evo 8 (yours) the do88, and the standard factory fitted one. All measurements in cm, then cubic cm. Standard 64.5 x 41.5 x 3.4 = 9638 Do88 ............................ = 13770 Evo8 ........50 x 32 x 9 = 14400 The EVO8 clearly has a larger core volume than the ridiculously overpriced do88. Just saying.
Did the same thing but messed up because that a/c line got to close to my serpentine belt and wore it so no more a/c but if you can’t find me that line at a junkyard and ship to me because there is no 2.8s at my local yards I’ll appreciate it!
Yeah that AC line gets real close to the serpentine belt once the condenser is pushed back. Unfortunately the junk yards near me haven't had a v6 saab in awhile. Next time they do I'll keep you in mind!
hello. nice video. i need to make the same process for 2.0T and what do you think about it? i think maybe i need to make larger hoses from intercooler to chargepipe, because of relocating the intercooler in front

Another cool uppgrade could be an engine oil cooler, you already leave space for it on top of the intercooler! :)
I like your thinking!
just got a 2006 saab 9-3 manual and i cant wait to start my saab journey :)
Gary, parts just arrived! I like your attention to detail. Rivnuts rock!

Haha thanks for the comments! At the moment I still have it so feel free to email me at weakestofweeks@gmail.com
William, which Evo IC did you buy? M-line or Z-line?
@@achishukuteki941 M line due to the shape of the intercooler (looks like a M), can't use the Z line
Nice job! And you're very good at fabricating parts to make it look OEM. Great video
Thank you!
@@WeakestofWeeks Your welcome, my uncle is good at doing things like that and in my opinion it made him happy to make it work and look good.
I bet! It can be very finicky and is a lot of work but once you're complete and it looks almost OEM It's very satisfying.

@@WeakestofWeeks sorry, just now saw this. Sending you an email as we speak.

I always wondered about an exact comparison. Thank you for the information friend!

Original Intercooler size for the 93 II 4 Cyls is 7400CM^3, the Evo 8 oem size is 10100CM^3 it’ll make the difference
I did this same mod. Yours is buttoned up way nicer though. 👍
Thank you!!
How can I send you some video of my car?
Looks like the Mitsubishi intercooler part number is TOYO MN153285.
hello.
nice video.

Hmmm.... I wonder what I could find for my 07 9⁵ now besides the do88...
So did you ever find out if there better gains now that’s it’s installed
I have one in my 9-5🎉
Can I use my stock intercooler piping?
I'd be interested in the EVO intercooler.
Just saw this but I still have it. Email me at weakestofweeks@gmail.com
I know this video is a year old but what year evo did you get your intercooler off of?
Evo 8 2003-2005
Nice job
This vs do88 which is better?
No doubt do88 since they have $$ into R&D. Although if you're a cheap diyer like myself, then you can't go wrong from this cost effective upgrade.
❤
This EVO intercooler is much more expensive in Europe unfortunately
FAB - ulous 😛
