  • In this video I show the struggles of removing the wheel liners on 2003-2012 Saab 9-3's. The studs securing the wheel liners on are almost guaranteed to break if any rust is on them! This solution is the most factory looking one and not a difficult repair. Be sure to like, share and subscribe! Links below.
Rivnut tool used in video = amzn.to/3qxHBfy
23/64 drill bit to use with the M6 rivnuts = amzn.to/39HG1le

Great solution. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with rust where I live, although both of my saabs are from the northeast 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Make sure you say a prayer before removing those little fender bolts then! 😄

I've said this before, you have the best videos of repairing Saab cars. Chrisfix style thank you for not hurrying speeding up the process like so many others do.

Well done Bud, whenever I do anything on my vehicles, I try and maintain that OEM look also. Thanks for the heads up on that rivnut tool, I just ordered one, thank you.

Thank you very much for this video. I'm a 9-5 owner from Scotland and gave up removing my rear liners after breaking 2 studs off. I'm going to do this on mine. Thanks again!

That has to be General Motors messing with SAAB owners. On my 2002 9-5, the wheel well liner is held in place with plastic nuts that never rust, and the lower ball joint is bolted to the control with 3 nuts and bolts. In fact, you just gave me my next project. To replace those metal 10mm liner nuts on my 2006 9-3 with plastic nuts. Thank you for the heads up. Great video. Cheers.

Did mine on 05 Aero when I bought it six years ago - bought plastic nuts from E Bay - fortunately mine inside liners was rust free 🙏 liberally treated inside of wing liner with Waxoyl

Very useful, I can see that I will be doing this to my 9-3 Aero project before long....

POR15, awesome paint! I've used it for years! I would paint them before the rivets, since primer is not waterproof. And, while the POR15 is still tacky, hit it with laser red paint, Good to go! But I guess, since you won't see it, it doesn't matter. Good job though!

Great video! Had that problem with The plastic nuts before whilst removing The rear bumper, might have to try it out!

If you can, focus on the rear arches. At least the front ones can be replaced if they do rust. I live in Scotland and they salt the roads here. The rear arches from what I've seen can go in a big way on many of them.. My 2007 full facelift one is like puff pastry, and my 2010 one is just starting to bubble slightly. Most of the time the front arches over here that I see are ok or just have a bit of rust starting.

Same problem here in Sweden, my 2007 aero is fine though, due to me and the previois owner only drivning it in the Summertime.

I can attest the problem is also on the og9-3.
I just welded a screw in stainless in place of old stud, then you can find a file for the nuts on thingivers and i 3d printed them in pla plastic which is compostable. They are still in place.

Gary do you have any plans of restoring or replacing front or rear subframes due to rust? or any other rust restoration mods very helpful. Thanks

    • @WeakestofWeeks
      @WeakestofWeeks  2 роки тому +2

Hello Mo! I don't think my subframes are bad enough to require replacement but they did need cleaned up. I used a wire brush and painted the subframes in POR15 paint: amzn.to/3nKGr0m

Good to know! I didn't realize the 9-5's used the same poor wheel liner fastener design.

When you have a Dremel or something similar og is easiest to cut the plastic nut open. If if wasn't for the price of such rivet nut installers I would have bought one and done it the same way as you have done.
