I hope one day Holosun makes a model that removes the battery entirely and replaces it with a rechargable cell. If the sun is bright enough, it uses the solar to power the optic & charge the battery. If there is not enough light, it uses the cell. A rechargeable cell would have lower total time than a normal cell, but the ability to be perpetually charged by light would effectively make it an "infinite" red dot - as long as you actually use the damn thing. Even if it was in a safe, the rechargeable cell should be good for at least 50% of a normal cell's life, which in a red dot is something like 10,000-20,000 hours at a medium brightness. Think G-Shock watch here. I've had one for 10 years and not once has the battery dipped below "high" because it's constantly charging, every day, from sunlight.
@@Hoplopfheil The super capacitor is a little different than a rechargeable battery. Super capacitors can charge significantly faster than a rechargable battery, but as a trade-off, they can't store as much energy. A rechargeable battery would take longer to fill up in the sun, but it would be able to run a lot longer without it.
@@24YOA Figure it takes 2 weeks to charge a 20,000 Mah battery that has the solar panel on it. One for the dot site prolly takes at least all day since it's a smaller battery.
I think you wrong. What you demonstrated was auto brightness vs manual. When you covered the sight it adjusted to changed lighting conditions. This is just my opinion based on experience. I own 15+ holosun sights. Nice view, by the way.
Battery life on these seems to be pretty stellar anyway. Plus with shake-awake, I doubt anyone is going to use up the factory battery before hell freezes over. Still a cool perk that these run with no batteries. Do you notice any PWM on the red version? I know the green has a detectable refresh rate on some settings. There are settings where its solid though. Its almost like there are two or three actual power settings, and then PWM in between.
Holosun’s out here moving firearms related tech like Apple and Samsung. And people got the nerve to tell me to buy Trijicon, Aimpoint, and Eotech, Who’ve been doing the same thing for 10 plus years without any real innovation.
Could you talk about optic size for ar/ak rifles. Specifically weight/size vs field of view of red dots/prism. Would you prefer a micro red dot that is super small/compact/light/doesn't block your peripheral vision, or do you want a large viewing window with maximum size at the cost of size/weight? an micro red dot might look cool on my ak, but will I regret it over something larger like a T2 or eotech (sized optic)?

Others drag it out to get things monetized and get more adspace. Since that is dying, there are more sponsor pushed.
@@onpsxmember funny how the old cable tv model is hard to get rid of
I prefer longer videos

Welcome to QVC. I think I could live with it if it was turned to 11 like those commercials in Alien III. When was the last time you heard someone really point out serious flaws on pistol? If it's clear from the get go that something is a commercial but it has all the info and detailed footage it's okay and I can add someone that tests it tells it how it is without thinking of a check.
@@mrs.vasquezz
The length should depend on the content. If it requires more time it's fine. But if it's bloated to check a 10 min box to get more ads displayed it's a waste of time.
Holosun is taking over , i know i have a few and wanting more .
Hop, did you ever do a dedicated review for this optic? I would love to hear your thoughts. I’m a big fan of the channel, thank you for the great content!!
Lmfao
At first I was like....man what game is this?
Then I realized it's just this dude who does amazing videos about weapon sights.
That's cool. I love this optic more and more.
now that is some great use of technology!!!!
If youre a prepper type that's a pretty compelling feature. Combine that with back up irons and you can have your dot charging at all times and only on when you need it.
Need to put some skylights in your safe.
better to get a prism with an etched recticle or tritium powered
If the AEMS has this then I need it on an angle mount immediately
I love all the stories in the comments about realizing they didn't have a battery
The ChiComs really are eating our lunch.
I mean, Holosun is based in the US, so I think they're designed here, just produced in china. We still beat them on tech, but we exploit them to get that tech cheaper.
Not quite the same POU setting but choose for me anyway between these 3:
-Holosun Dot Sight CLASSIC HS510C red dot and HM3X magnifier SET
-Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 AR-BDC3 (MOA) Reticle
-Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24 FFP EBR-8 (MOA) Reticle
Nice operational video, Hop!
I was waiting for you to absolutely rip apart this optic that I like lol
Some say H510C or EXPS3, I say both. Both look good under nods, EXPS3 is still king at NV, but 510C is light and has been on many of my guns.
I’ve never once considered using nv behind a 1x optic. Head mounted nods and lasers are so vastly superior in my experience.
That said…for some unknown reason I keep buying the nv compatible versions.
@@thopkins2271 I would agree, I like knowing that passive aiming is an option but an IR laser is much better.
Hop. The green elite version of the solar failsafe works different. You can adjust the brightness of the lowest level to account for the lack of ambient light. This also goes for the 508t elite... I have one green and one red 510c's it's actually stated in the instructions as they are the same for both units
Good info.
Good info
Papi hop back at it again calling me poor with his sub MOA rifles and great shooting skills
My one complaint is that they could've added a charging circuit to the optic and used a rechargeable cell, but it would add a little cost, and would require that a less common battery be used. Maybe we'll see it in a future version, but with such a long battery life, I'm guessing it's not a huge concern for them; or me for that matter.
Rechargeables are cool, but with how long the batteries last I would rather just have a baggie of button cells in my kit
@@marcusborderlands6177 And that was probably their thinking as well. regular 2032s are the most common flat cell battery so they'll be easy to find if needed
Options are good. I have this RDS on my SIG PMPX.
Holosun is probably the only Chinese optic I would by. Though I did just sell my 510c the other day, kept my Eotech.
I've had an HS510C for like 4 years and never knew this
Your next series should be tricking out in AK.. I like mine as is but there are so many accessories out there I wouldn't know where to start
Dude, you are the Messiah of hidden gem Features.
I own HE503CU-RD, and I'm pretty sure I got fucked, because there is no such thing as a visible Reticle without Batteries with that Thing.
...Anyway, thanx again for those lovely Videos👌
Nooooo! You have to use tritium!!! Bro what if the battery dies after 3 years??? 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳 trijicon only!
I have one on my AK pistol and I beat the absolute crap out of it and it holds zero and works perfectly! I have aimpoints and Eotechs and this Holosun rivals them. John Lovell and Travis Haley turned me on to them and I have not been let down!
That's what the SCS is. It would be cool to see that tech in a 400 series microdot.
@@24YOA Good point, I can't find any hard numbers about how long the 510/512 will run off the capacitor so I guess I'll try to test it. :)
@@24YOA Figure it takes 2 weeks to charge a 20,000 Mah battery that has the solar panel on it. One for the dot site prolly takes at least all day since it's a smaller battery.
My 10 year g-shock battery is finally dying at 17.5 years
If skeptical-of-solar Hop is cautiously optimistic for the SCS, I won’t write it off.
Take a shot every time he says actually
That’s pretty cool
That's pretty cool.
I think you wrong. What you demonstrated was auto brightness vs manual.
When you covered the sight it adjusted to changed lighting conditions.
This is just my opinion based on experience. I own 15+ holosun sights.
Nice view, by the way.
I was more impresses by the amazing (assuming) backyard view!
I run a 510c on a PTR9KT... awesome optic.
Wow that’s pretty neat
Pretty fu**in' cool!!!
Someone needs to make a 3d kill flash for it, there are even screws to remove the titanium plate.
That’s pretty cool. But like have you checked out that view? That’s what I’m here for.
Damn, thats a featureset I want in my sight. Haven't checked the price, but hope it isn't too crazy, since its Holosun.
Holosun’s out here moving firearms related tech like Apple and Samsung. And people got the nerve to tell me to buy Trijicon, Aimpoint, and Eotech, Who’ve been doing the same thing for 10 plus years without any real innovation.
pretty cool
Beautiful scenery hop. What state are you in
I have this optic and the eotech and I am surprised to say I like the holosun better😬
At what point does it stop being a capacitor and starts being a battery? That’s the longest running capacitor I’ve ever seen.
Hahaha. Don’t lose those screws!!!! Cool. I did not know that.
Meanwhile trijicon, aim point, and eotech releasing the same optics for the past 10 years and calling it brand new
Could you talk about optic size for ar/ak rifles.
Meme worthy video bravo.
The only issue I have with this optic is the "tiny screws" and the way the battery is secured in the optic
510c goes hard
A legit advance.
