Well, if anyone's still not pursuaded by the benefits of wet-sanding then they never will. The ridiculous level of improvement in smoothness and reflectivity from the original orange-peel laden bumper is beyond words. Absolutely amazing result. I learn a lot from your videos PoV and this is another one to add to the armoury of knowledge. Cheers!
Agreed
Too scary to take too much clear coat off if you don't have a lot to begin with, they're expensive and time consuming to reclear, tape up entire car again, etc. Sometimes even 2000 sandpaper takes off a lot. I guess sandpapers are all different by different brands.
Probably the best video I've seen so far. Tried your techniques on my car door that had some orange peel and it now looks absolutely perfect.
Thing is, people are afraid to do this, as putting sandpaper - even high-grit wet sandpaper - to a car's paint freaks people out. But your video is so detailed, it gives me the confidence to at least try it. Very well done!
You’re a proper craftsman, a pleasure to watch and learn, thank you, Sir.
Very welcome
Wow what an unbelievable finish! Thanks so much for the tutorial I shall be using this on my Merc in the coming days, wish me luck, if it comes out half as good I'll be delighted
Jus came across you videos, painting aircraft wingtips spinner and eventually the fuselage with acrylic urethane single stage and was looking for a was to cut and buff, good video. Simple and to the point. Cheers.

Thank you for watching
Nice informative video, thanks for sharing.
Cheers, ive been struggling with trying to find a cutting compound that actually tells u what grit sand paper to use prior to the polish (rather than marketing shite) and knowing how much time to spend on each section with the polisher.
U cleared it all up and im off to buy stuff and then re-polish a car I bought a week ago.
Absolutely amazing job mate , first vid of yours I have seen and gonna sub. Thank you so much .
Appreciate the support Paul

Jus the vid I needed 👍 Jus finished painting my rear bumper that had flaky paint, looks good but very dry to the feel a bit peely an not as shiny as rest, only done with rattle cans, gonna have to try this now👍
Update! Tried this 2day, what a difference it made shiny bumper again, top job thanks! 👍
Glad I could help
Great job👌
Cheers bud
Great video again mate
Cheers rich
Another good job 👍🏻
Thanks
Wow what a mirror shine!
👊🏻👊🏻
Looking good
Thanks
It might be worth mentioning the importance of avoiding getting dirt/grit on wet & dry or the buffer sponge. As we know how quickly that would ruin the finish.
Great video, much appreciated:)
Glad it was helpful!
Lovin these videos.
Glad you found the channel
Good man , thanks for showing me how to make paint shiney , cos by Christ i made a mess of the paint job. I need all the help I can get mate lol
This was so informative thank you! What pad do you use with the compound vs the pad on the polish part?
Just a stiff pad and then a soft pad
ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVEABLE. CANT WAIT TO DO MY CAR.
Cheers thanks for watching
Great clip, simple to the point and clear. You’re a good instructor. What about how much lacquer is on the panel and not removing too much? I may have a go on our seventeen year old Fabia which had a very average paint repair on some damage on a door.
If its orange peel then it's a usually got enough to play with
@@cvrpovI’m in a similar situation with my 18 Tahoe. A guy repaired my damaged passenger side doors but left a harsh finish on them but I do see gloss but I want to be sure it’s ok to do since there’s bondo underneath?
I love it
Thanks for watching
Outstanding video on removing orange peel👏👏
Thankyou
did this on an outboard motor restoration. the entire mid looks soaking wet absolutely incredible! edit: im not sure i even want to use it now haha.
Love this mate. Thanks for the feedback
@@cvrpov hey cheers my pleasure thanks again!
❤awesome bro
Thankyou
Excellent watching you do this. I've just bought a new car and there's some minor swirl marks in the topcoat. Just to get rid of swirl marks would you recommend using the G360 or if they are light swirls would you try just seeing if they'd buff out with polish/polishing pad first ? I've watched some of your stone repair videos too. Really excellent advice. I got rid of them totally
Hi Steven. www.paintgear.co.uk sell g360 snd also they do a polishing pad pack... it can be possible to use the g360 on a soft pad to refine the swirls from a cutting pad
@@cvrpov Many thanks will give that a try
You should do a pricing video and how u price jobs! Good job !
Hi. Pricing is always down to the individual, geographical differences and assessing your client. I always work out how long it has taken and try and work to a rough hourly rate/how much I've saved the client, travel etc
Wish I could find an individual like you in the United States!
I'm sure there are people over there mate
Thanks alot man nice tutorial , i'll try to do it in my car door panel and i hope i won't screw it up haha
Good luck mate
Can u list the products plz? I really enjoyed this video and now I wanna try this on my car
Love the videos mate! Very informative. What's the best way to get into smart repair properly painting and scuff repair. Any course recommendations?
Cheers
Probably watching my videos mate to be honest haha 🤷♂️. It's a bit short on courses. Where are u based
@@cvrpov based in leicester bud
@@cvrpov videos have done me great so far! Haha
Top man
👊🏻
Just recently spray painted new one piece plastic front end for Sonata. Oem Black 93 sprayed on first plastic adhesion sealer, three basecoats, two coats clear coat. Had fly land just as finished last clearcoat.
To remove fly mark n get lustre should I do what you show in video??? I have not done anything for lustre and shine yet just steps mentioned. Great video, nice mirror like lustre!
Yes it is possible to knock the fly back with some sand paper and polish the area
Use a hybrid silkwool pad at speed setting 1 and u can cut that 1500 grit sanding right up.
You dont want heat or pressure when cutting or polishing today's clearcoat. Laquer paint from years ago, you would benefit from heat during polishing. Friction and abrasives are the only factors in polishing now
Nice
Thanks for watching
Hi thank you for these videos. those sanding scratches will come back in the future? I’ve been spending too much money in compounds but always the marks come back. Ty
They need to be thoroughly polished out. Alot of people don't polish enough
Ive used that g360 and like how it finished down but I find it has a short working time and is dusty when used with DA in Australia.
Switched to 3D 500.
Depends on the car paint I find
Brilliant job mate can I ask will the bumper be prone to scratch easier with it being polished? Only asking as i done my car and it seemed lyk I'm getting alot of surface scratches from the bushes.
I'd recommend a good sealant, wax or ceramic over it to protect it from further scratches etc
@@cvrpov I've got some carnauba wax, will that help?
Tip: if you hear these squealy noises (04:32) during sanding, there's a trash particle between the paper and the clear. Stop sanding immediately and rinse the paper and clear or you'll make scratches coarser than the grit of paper.
I'm following this process on my GSXR nose cone after a crap respray. I work for an automotive product company so I have all compounds and polishes needed, do i start with stage 2 compound or stage 1 abrasive?
Great video. Sub'd.
Thanks for the sub!
Gifted
🙌🏼
Excellent video mate could this be done on the whole of the car ?
Yes. It would be very Time consuming but if the car needed it, it would make such a difference
Yer can imagine, thanks for replying.
This a very informative video, however, have you or would you produce a video guide for repairing deep scratches you can feel with your fingernail? the type of damage caused by a keying, shrubbery, or more commonly the reckless supermarket trolley!
Yes I have..check our playlist out, chip and scratch repair. There is a green Jaguar bonnet with exactly this
I have paint touch up that came and said it needs clear. Can you do this process over clear?
Can I wet dry a base coat of the original till I get to the original clear coat. The base coat was applied on top of the clear coat
How long should one wait after painting before sanding and cutting if you're doing a garage paint job?
That is a fantastic finish! I'm a newb. After you use finishing polish, do you ever need to seal the finish or is that a thing of the past!
A good wax or sealant will be a good idea
@@cvrpov - I just wanted to say Thank You! After watching several of your videos, I picked up some 1000 to 3000 grit variety, polishing compound and a set of polishing pads for my drill. All under $30. So for my first "experiment", I tried removing some cigarette burn marks on a vanity sink top in my basement. They were pretty bad burns. Actually, I started with #400, then #600 and following your advice, moved on up to #1500. Thanks so much! It came out beautiful. I figured, what do I have to lose? I was going to pitch the sink top and buy another one. For less than half of a new sink top, it's finished all Thanks To You Sir! AND as a bonus, I have a ton of materials now. At age 67, I want to do a repair on my Ford Explorer hood lip and I'm working up to that. It's a common problem, the paint bubbles off but I wanted to practice on something before I tackled it. Did you ever think you'd see a comment posted about someone that used your skills to fix their sink??
Again, Thanks So Much!
Take Care,
Tom
How about turning on polishing lights? 😄 I believe that some sanding marks and holograms will be still there 🙂
So after everything is done you put any ceramic coating around it
Great video thanks. Couple of questions if you don't mind. What is a rough price guide for doing this type of work?
Also with it beginning painted previously by someone else, your risks are quite high with sanding through, would you take responsibility if you sanded through or is that risk left with the customer? I'm wanting to start smart repair myself eventually and I'm just curious how to deal with these types of jobs.
Thanks, keep up the great videos.
Hi Kev. Prices can vary. I would always sell the job that it's an improvement to the area with risks attached. Sell the idea that the only other alternative is an expensive respray and work from there. It's ultimately up to the customer.
@@cvrpov Great answer, thanks 😊
The answer translates to make it look shiny and run with the money you may feel like charging at the time.don't start a smart repair business get a proper job as a paint technician if your interested in the trade 🖒
@@djjk4486 run with the money? You make the guy sound like a criminal! Anyway the way I read it Kev was suggesting he would attempt his own repairs on his own car - I didn't read it as he was thinking of setting up a business.
Should never use a bucket chances are you will pick up some contamination and scratch the paint, best to use spray bottle with warm soapy water
Stupid question: Would you lay down some wax on a job like that?
Loving the vids, learning loads, off to local shop to buy a polishing machine..
Adding a wax will always help mate..make sure ur happy with the finish 1st then apply one 👍🏻
Did you do the entire vehicle?
can i just compound the 3000 girt by hand and aplicator?
So is this done on a panel that has clear coat on?
How can you make sure you don’t go through the clear coat?! Or should I not be worried while wet sanding?
Is it the same process for 2k high gloss acrylic ? I did epoxy primer perfect, primer perfect, 1st coat of 2k acrylic perfect but the 2nd coat went to 💩 no idea how I messed it up, no runs just slight orange peel all over 🤷🏼♂️
Great video! But no links to the products
www.paintgear.co.uk have everything you need in this video inc sandpaper and polish etc
Hi respraying a bumper currently DIY, is wet sanding after paint crucial, should I be worried about taking too many layers lacquer off? Thanks
Usually a good hit with 1500, 2000 and 3000 is suffice
How much time this will last ?
