- Hey Folks. This week we're showing off our piles of our piles of pumpkins & tomatoes, all of which are from volunteer / self sown plants. We hope to be back on deck with better polished videos once we sort out a better editing computer & fix the camera phone.
Cheers all.

The place is looking good Rob. Free veges from nature is always a bonus.
We're definitely not going to complain.
Cheers Chris.
Good to see you guys are doing well on your little bit of paradise
😊
Ya both look happy
Thanks Devvyn. Buying this place was one of the best decisions we've made as a team I think.
Cheers & all the best mate.
After all the burning, Potash for the vege garden. Jack is so cute, loves the camera. Nice haul on the pumpkins & tomatoes🍅
B has said we need to collect it too Anna.
I dare say the pumpkins could use a bit of a boost that the moment with all the fruit they're pumping out.
Cheers 😁
ooh nice christmas spider
Yours Power Is Your Sincerity Great & Long Life Together Peace 🤲❤👌👌🏽👌🏿
Many thanks Ryou. 😁👍
I whish the same for you.
@@RobsAquaponics 🤲👌🏿👌👌🏽Thnx😁
Hi Rob, The pumpkins are looking very nice and you can make many things from them. A bonus item to sell as well. Overgrown can be a sign of very good soil. 😁
The soil in there would be very rich Garry. I think they had pigs ru8nning in them for 6 + years.
good day .Pumpkin pies in the wild !
More than we know what to do with. 😅
Cheers RT.
Love the updates guys, we are looking at a long hot summer here in Fla., glad to see you made it though yours.
Thanks mate. I'm liking the cool season here so far. Much warmer than our old place.
Cheers & have a top one.
You have got to try pumpkin leaves sautéed with garlic and cumin. A previous neighbor shared this with us. All the spikes on the leaves and stems disappear. They taste really good and provide greens in abundance.
We did steam some up years ago but they weren't a hit with the family. I think they were expecting a pumpkin taste. 😉Might try it again with younger leaves as I think the plant was on the way out when we tried it.
Cheers Rob & have a top one mate.
At least you will not starve.Plenty of pumpkin soup for the freezer . Tomato relish is what i made with my excess tom,s. They were always a hit with family and neighbours. Take things slow and steady do not get yourselves burnt out, all things will get sorted in good time. All the best to you both
Thanks Kerry. Managed to get loads of fence cleared yesterday & will almost have the rest finished today. 🤞
B mentioned that she wanted to make relish or chutney with them this time round. I mentioned that someone suggested jam as well which peaked her interest. Have loads yet to harvest so I'd say we'll have more than enough to experiment with.
omg so many pumpkins ! hope you get to make some nice pumpkin soup :)
B wants to make the red curry & prawn soup we like first. I'm rather partial to a bacon & chook (using left over BBQ/ or roast chook) pumpkin soup myself.
Exciting to see the progress. Can't wait to see the patch & chook Hilton up & running
Re thinking the chook hilton at the moment. I think electric netting may be a much cheaper option for now. Hope you're both enjoying your trip. 🥂🍻🍹
Was definitely good to go bush for a few days
As much as I like pumpkin Mate... Nice looking tomatoes Hope you get a tractor sorted. Jacks having fun.
He's having a ball Davey. He's finally made friends with the guinea fowl so things have quietened down here somewhat. 😅
How's your plot going at the moment?
@@RobsAquaponics Got a few bits in here. Not a lot I was laid up recovering from an op on my back. Lots got neglected need to kick it all into shape. Been very wet here too so far yet they are telling us it was the warmest may on record. Absolute BS had warmer dryer Aprils and Mays than this. Our heating has been running odd days and night so it not warm at all.
Pumping Paradise
Yep. Trying to convince our daughter to go through & flag them all for us. 😁😉
Your pig pen pumkin patch reminds me of a locavore farming book I read some years back. One of the farmers interviewed for the book rotated his pig pens, growing pumpkins in the next paddock to be used, then moving the pigs into it, giving them the free range to eat all the pumpkins, etc rather than feed them commercial pig food.
For a way to put the pumpkins to good use, do you have "grow free" stalls in your area? I can't remember if they're just an SA movement or not. Basically, here in the hills, our various town have these unmanned stalls, carts, etc where locals can take excess of their homegrown fruit and veggies. It's a "take what you need" system where you can give or take items for free. Helps get rid of your excess produce, plus help feed those who may otherwise not have enough. Great idea. But, then again, we're a fruit fly free zone so have less restrictions on food freebies.
There is a free food box at one of the local pubs so I'll make enquiries. One of the plans I have for the aquaponics will be to grow fodder for the animals, chooks & goats in particular.
Cheers CR & hope all's well with you & yours.
Have you considered a small intermediate step on the way to getting a tractor? A dump trailer for your lawn machine can increase your hauling ability at a much lower cost. Granted, it's not the same, but it could help you get more productive sooner.
Hey Ron. I have a trailer for the mower now. Dad had one that's not needed down at his place. Just need to get some new wheels for it now. Will definitely come in handy when we start replacing the fence wire.
Cheers mate.
@@RobsAquaponicsthat's great; free-ish trailer. If it isn't the dumper type, it can be improvised. Just remove the tailgate, then the hitchpin, then pull up on the drawbar. It's not elegant, but it does work. Good for moving loose stuff like soil.
We should take bets on the total numbers of pumpkins 😂 at this point I am thinking over 100 😂
🤔 You might be onto something there Jennifer. I'll chat with B about maybe doing something for supporters. 😉
👍👍
😁👍👍
I am sooo jealous of your pumpkins. Mine were growing from my compost. I had to take them out as i put the compost in my new bed. (Found another issue there). Happy to help harvest for a couple. Lol. I only have a battery whipper snipper so i carnt help there. Sorry. Hi Biancia. You look soo fun. Carnt wait to meet you. I will try not to look like a complete idoit like when i saw Rob for the first time. (Sorry star struck, amazed and excited all at the same time. Sorry Rob). I love watching you guys.
Sorry for the short memory but did did we meet outside the bakery in Childers?
I think I also met your Hubby at the tip if that was you. 😅👍 I'm sure we could spare a few fruit too. 😉
Cheers Amanda.
@@RobsAquaponics . I work at Ampol. You came in for petrol before you went to get fish. I said you sound like you do on video. I was super excited. Very baldy, im sorry. Lol
@@amamdascityhomestead2734 😆 Is all coming back to me. Gave me a smile for the morning & trip south with the fish.
Cheers Amanda.
Have you made tomatoe jam yet?
No we haven't Jean. I think B was talking about making some pickles or chutney with some of this batch. I'll suggest jam to her as well.👍
Thanks & have a great one.
I was doing some research, and I checked what it would cost for you to hire a tractor and slasher combination for a single day with a company called flexihire. They have several branches in your area. I took the 5th of June as an example, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and that would cost you around 655 dollar. But that is without delivery costs, and I can't find what those costs would be. But it is also possible to hire a smaller machine for less money. I went for the overkill option knowing that such a machine combination would most certainly do the job in a single day. Perhaps you could strike an interesting deal with them in trade for a little promotion in your videos? The worst that can happen to you is that they say no to your proposition. I mean, that doesn't sound like a big deal, right? If you never ask you will never know. The tomato's and pumpkins are a pleasant surprise. They might actually earn back what you would have to pay if you would hire a tractor for a day. I love the garden tours 👍
Hi mate. I was just coming to look for posts to use in a video & I noticed my comment of thanks didn't stick for whatever reason.
Many thanks again for looking up the prices on the rental. I'm down to my last 40 or so meters of clearing so we should get it all done in time to dodge any repercussions from the council.
Cheers again.
@@RobsAquaponics 👍
Hey, if you need a guy to help you set up a backup/home business server its really not to hard. I would be willing to help you out. You can upgrade for other small business needs. I would drop you my link, but youtube seems to not like that. It could help you keep from loosing footage or script. It can be local or in the cloud. Depends on your needs.
Thanks Ar(h3R. Are you local to Childers/Bundy?
mate we gotta get you growing some good chilies! (hungarian hot wax, rocoto, etc)
ps. anything but data recovery and can do remotely lel ;p
I think I have all the images & video saved. The PC booted up again so I've taken all the important documents off it now as well. I'm going to restore it to factory & ask a local mate if he can give me a few pointers as to what the issue may be. I'm hoping it's just a windows issue as the hardware still works fine.
Cheers mate.
@@RobsAquaponics take the hdd out and put in a new one (ssd) and give it a fresh install, least you still got the other hdd to connect to USB at a later time to try recover if anything needed
@@alch3myau Thanks mate.
lol looks like your going to do a couple of local markets to sell your tons of pumpkins!
WE are thinking about having a stall at one of the markets down at Hervey bay. Pumpkins would do OK along side the crackers & other bits n bobs I think.
Cheers Nicole.
