Making a bowl super thin says ‘look what a good turner I am. Who cares what it looks like’. A bowl that is thicker says ‘ look how beautiful the wood, resin, pinecones are & how beautiful those makings let me form this bowl’. You, Jim, are a Master Maker.

Designer epoxy - your argument for the beefier bowl really comes through with the silhouettes of the pine cones in the lighted from the insides. I prefer these projects with subtler or fewer bold colors. I appreciate that i always learn something

The frosted pinecones were a great idea. They look like flowers but also like oyster shells, which could be a fun thing to do with broken or cut off petals.

Leaving it thick was absolutely the right call. You would have lost so much of the pinecone detail going with a thinner bowl. Designer Epoxy did a great job as always!

Not everything has to be thin. The pinecones definitely look like flowers. Using the 5-minute epoxy from Designer Epoxy to frost the pine cones was an interesting idea. It definitely enhanced the flower aspect of the pinecones.

I love the “beefy” bowls that you make. I have no doubt that you have the talent to turn a very thin, very fragile piece that would show off your talent. Instead, you show off the materials with a respect for their intrinsic beauty. A tiny little piece wouldn’t show off the wood, cones, or the Designer Epoxy in their best form. When what you turn has its own beauty already, celebrate that and bring it out in its best light. I don’t know how you could show off a gorgeous hunk of burl and some beautiful frosted pinecones that absolutely look like flowers from the top, in a thinner piece. Good choices as always Jim, I love it!!!
