As a child, I married Nami because she was mysterious to me, also she was really hard to accomplish with gifts (esp as a 6/7 year old lol). I would say for this playthru, to go with Celia since she's so down to earth.
I was also Nami gang when I was a kid for those exact same reasons! Unfortunately, democracy voted in Muffy as the wife so Celia may have to wait until the remake! Thanks for watching!

I glad you played this with your siblings. I have 4 older sisters and 1 younger brother. We would all take turns playing and growing our farm. It was fun. It was the only game they would play with us boys since they didn't want us to "mess" the farm up lol.

If you like good playthroughs you should watch Strayfae. She thoroughly researches the games and 100%'s them. She's great. I even learned something new about a game I put over 5,000 hours on watching her playthrough on it.
The thing about naming Bessy made me smile so hard. Ever since my very first time playing Harvest Moon as a child, the first cow is always Abigail. Usually, the second is Bessie, but I'm less stringent about that. 😅 I tend to name my animals in alphabetical order just for fun. From Abigail to Bessie to Cate, for example.
I can understand the need for order lol. I organize all of my items in this game and it stresses me out when things aren't in their correct spot lol
Just found your channel today, and boy did you hit me in the nostalgia. AWL was the first Harvest Moon game I ever played, all the way back when I was a teenager. It was the start of my Harvest Moon obsession, I haven't missed a release since. I'm so excited for the remake, I've set aside funds on my switch for it already and plan to pre-order as soon as I can.
AWL was the start of my farming sim obsession as well! I'm going to be pre-ordering on steam since PC is my most used "console."
It's great to see this classic get some love.
That said it's tradition for me to name a cow in every farm game "Alison DiLaurentis", based on one of my most hated tv show characters of all time. Mostly because her stans love to call one of my favourite characters a pig/pigskin.

Thanks so much for watching, subscribing and all the compliments! I look back on this video, making it almost a year ago, and it's really interesting to look at how much I've changed in my "style" (for the lack of a better word). It's crazy how much can change in a year lol
Oh man, I remember playing the first Harvest Moon game on my dad's gameboy color ages ago (not understanding a thing because it was in Japanese lol) but STILL loved it because I guess as a kid I already loved the idea of a life and farm simulator LOL. I honestly was going nowhere in the game and was just walking around enjoying waking up to my character eating breakfast and looking at the pet dog. Needless to say, I never realized it was an actual Harvest Moon game until years later. I guess its time to bring out my Gamecube and play A Wonderful Life!
That's my experience in FOMT. After my brother was doing playing it, I would have my own save file where I just walked around. I didn't farm, fish, ranch, etc. just walked around and talked to people lol.
I played Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life and I was so pissed with the bachelor options as a kid. It was either ugly old man, ugly hippy man, or ugly twink man. I'm so glad you can marry either gender now, I've always had a crush on Muffy!
Lol I think that's why they're, for the lack of a better term, beautifying the bachelors for the remake. They definitely don't have as much quirky charm, but they fit the modern definition of attractive. Nami best girl btw

The algorithm sent me the final video so I took it upon myself to watch this journey from the beginning.
Im learning so many new things! The furthest i got was marrying Nami and having a kid. Having accomplished my lifes work i promptly stopped playing. Never knew how in depth this game was! This is so neat.
Shout out to the algorithm! It sucks that you couldn't be here from the start, but we're happy to have you aboard! AWL is super weird with how they never really teach you about any mechanics or that befriending the villagers can get you interesting stuff. They really just give you an introduction where Takakura tells you some stuff and let you figure it out lol
One of my favorite GC games. Didn’t realize how in depth it could go. I remember my first play through ended with the MC dying alone.
This game is super deep with mechanics that they never explain which is super confusing to new players lol

Oh man, my heart hurts hearing that you also played this game taking turns with your siblings. My brother and I used to pass the controller back and forth every in-game day. I think it was the only time we weren't fighting over something.
Lol it do be like that. There are very few unifying factors with siblings, but video games was definitely ours
My vote for bachelorette goes to Nami.
As far as Territory Capture, I spent a lot of time playing it for the platinum trophy earlier this year. The best tip I have is to try and capture as large a chunk of the center of the board as you can. This will make it harder for Patrick to get any large chunk of points, and building from the outside and taking as much of the center as you can nets you a big lead. It won't work every time, but it's how I got the trophy.
Nami was my vote too! We conducted the vote before the video hit recommended feeds and the chat and community, at that time, voted for Muffy. I'll try out that strategy next time I play the territory capture! Thanks so much!

@@JackDuckGoose It wasn't super complicated. The two trophies that stuck out were getting all the records from the villagers. Marlin's record was the hardest to get. On the special edition, there's a glitch where mukumuku will give you the same record every day in winter (once you befriend him) SELL them! It helps with the one trophy where you have to buy every upgrade on the farm. That took a lot of money and time. (and sharsharks) haha
Interesting. I've just started Summer of Chapter 2 and have gotten about half the achievements so far, so It's good to know that the difficult isn't too hard. It just seems to be hidden, for the lack of a better term. To make money, I'm taking all the fish that are cheap and turning them into sashimi. That along with the fruit seeds in the original edition will make money pretty moot soon enough.

I love that mini game with the fireworks guy. It really is a challenge. I spent hours getting my ass kicked as a kid haha. This was my first harvest moon and farming sim game. I cannot way for this remake.
Same! It's definitely the best mini game between the milk drinking contest and the headstone polishing.
I always played Harvest Moon back in the day. Ever since the SNES. When I got AWL way back when and found out you could play as the kid if your farmer got old and died. I always tried to get that far but never did.
I've never completed the game either lol. That's one of the major reasons I wanted to do this challenge!

Celia has always been my go-to bachelorette when I played this on gamecube soooo many years ago... Muffy was nice, but I just didn't feel that I really connected with her. Nami was wayyy too hard-to-get and stand-offish for my liking. Celia just clicked since she was a farmer like MC and seemed so genuine and down-to-earth. It just made sense to have her on the farm with me where she'd be happy and we'd eventually raise an adorable son together.
I think Celia was probably the most "realistic" choice. Similar interests to the MC, closer in age range. I always went for Nami because she was stand offish and hard to get lol
same. she just seemed so sweet. plus if you don’t marry her she has to be with marlin 😬
That fact is almost enough to make me want to marry her; just to spite Marlin. I don't know why I dislike him so much, but I do lol

This seems like it'd be harder on special edition lol. Chapters are shorter, big field, seed maker, special tools not available first year and the moon fruit and veggies recipes aren't available until you make a bunch of veggies ones lol
Yeah the special edition would absolutely be harder lol. Outside of my massive nostalgia complex for the original, a big reason I chose this version was because there is a very definite ending. Unlike the special edition, there is no heaven mode after Chapter 6 so you can't keep playing.
I actually never knew growing up how to get the hybrid crops, I just used the 3rd controller port Z button cheat ^^; I also can't remember if I beat Patrick's minigame, I definitely remember playing it but not if I won or not.
I'm actually torn on the bachelorettes just because it feels so depressing seeing Muffy never marry.
Wow I've never heard of that 3rd controller exploit! Now I'm curious and will have to look it up. I've never beat it since I didn't care about it too much before I decided to do this 100% run, but now I have to make a strategy. Apparently playing Kassey is easier. Seeing the other bachelorettes grow old is depressing. I hope they add rival marriages in the remake so I don't feel as bad womanizing and leaving them alone lol
@@JackDuckGoose I've done it! It gives you multiples of EVERYTHING. So much so that it's kind of game breaking because you basically have 99 of everything and you could just sell it all and become rich immediately.
I looked it up the other day, and you're right. It is gamebreaking. I considered the Ruby's spice glitch an exploit, but that Z button really is crazy. I definitely won't be doing that lol

AWL really is a game that you can lose track of time in. It's kinda like, "Just one more day..." until you go 10 days lol. Muffy did end up winning so you will see her as the Wife for future videos!
Me and my siblings always ALWAYS tried to marry Nami but only ever ended up with Celia. We all thought Muffy was annoying. We finally got Nami in one run but then the game cartridge became corrupted

Honestly, same, but I fell like that's the "right" way to play. Going for 100% is kinda silly, but it was something I wanted to do since I never really completed the game as a kid lol
One of my favorite games from the GameCube 😍 I'm going to start a playthrough on the PlayStation version using this video as a general guideline to follow, with the hopes of getting the platinum. They changed a couple things though annoyingly, specifically that the large crop field has to be purchased, and grass won't grow in the pasture behind your barn unless you purchase fertilizer, and each single square of grass has to be fertilized individually so you have to buy a ton of it lol.
Geez, I didn't know that was the case. Would it be easier just to purchase good fodder?
@@JackDuckGoose depends how much the good fodder costs I suppose. The grass grows back after you cut it so you only need to purchase the fertilizer to get the grass started

I haven't played much so far, but other than the grass and field the only other differences I've noticed are that the ruby spice duplication doesn't work anymore, and the camera is far too sensitive so it turns extremely quickly. The frame rate is also terrible so the game doesn't run as smooth as it does on GameCube

Played the old PS2 version for over 15yrs in game time.. one thing I know for certain.. Every single FAQ on the internet is a rip-off copy of the Game Cube Faq. The 2 games are completely different. Thats how you know PLAGERISM is alive and well. Yes I have 100 PCT everything and you cant get every item in the game until year 5-6 its impossible.
I agree. The differences between the Special Edition and the Original GameCube release are very pronounced. It's like a totally different game lol

I always called my cow Bella, chickens Phil, Phillip, Phillipa somehow 🤣 I lpved this game because you couldn't screw it up. It was just a safe, stressfree game to play and my old soul loves the spirit still at 27😂 can't believe I still have to wait 6 months till the re-do game comes out.
I agree! The game was ahead of it's time. Now that stress-free, soothing games are commonplace, I'm hoping the remake keeps that vibe. Only a couple more months to wait lol
@@JackDuckGoose yess this game is for that reason still my nr 1. The other harvest moon games are great as well, but the stamina is more annoying, as well as the number of villagers u have to befriend. Too bad they aren't using more of the old graphics in it tho and the name changes 😭

I remember being so excited for this game after being obsessed with HM64 and was pretty disappointed with it at the time. It felt like a much smaller game and I didn't like most of the characters. After they massacred the franchise, I went back and played it again and enjoyed it more than I originally had.
I can understand that For a lot of people, HM64 is the magnum opus. A generational farming simulator. AWL would definitely pale in comparison. My nostalgia bias to AWL is super strong, and maybe that's why I feel the way I do about it. I'm glad you enjoyed a second playthrough though!
How did you get access to the large field with the fertile soil in year 1? Great vid by the way!
That's a great question! In the original edition, which is the one I'm playing, they leave out a lot of content that is present in AnWL and the Special Edition. This includes the fact that you don't have to clean up the trees and shrubs where the fertile field is. With that being how it is, you can get the strange and weird tools in the first year instead of having to befriend tartan, pay to have the field cleared, and then get the cutscenes lol

I barely rememebered this game..didnt even rememeber the title, i just remembered in wason the n64, involved a character who wore a baseball cap lol & i took care of a farm & i was addicted to it.
LOL anyways halfway thru this you just explained what i was giong to comment next..lol. Yes i did hear the harvest moon is not the original harvest moon makers, they only have it in name. Anyways .. i already was drawn to SOS and idk why, their games seem better quality & one of the games i got actually reminded me of this very game!, Sos Pioneer of olive town, it was the style of the characters..... At some point i read online that these were the same people who actually MADE that n 64 game back then..
Yeah, it's super interesting. There is an obvious drop in quality when Natsume took the HM name and had a different game dev create Harvest Moon Games. Marvelous obviously took a different art direction in the SoS games, but they are still of the same quality, in my opinion, as the original Harvest Moon games.
@@JackDuckGoose There is another game that reminds of another game i played in the 2000 lol, Monolith soft made xenoblade 3, and they also made Baiton Katos: The eternal ocean back in the day! but unlike what happened to the SOS and the harvest moon brand.. Monolith has always been and stayed good quality. I think back then in 2000 or whatever monolith just had a different variation of the monolith soft name tho, but not too different than what it is now.

I might've missed it somewhere but you said you didn't have a Play Station and I'm dying to know if you used an emulator! If so, which emulator? I tried to emulate this years back but it was so laggy ): I also played Harvest Moon for AGES as a kid and this brings back so much nostalgia! I never could figure out how to make special seeds, I just always used the exploit that gave you 99 of each item LMAO
If anyone at Nintendo is reading this, I definitely do not use an emulator. wink wink nudge nudge. If I we're going to use one, I heard the dolphin emulator for the Wii and GC is pretty good.
When I was a kid, I didn't even know about the 99 z glitch so I just played like normal and made money through tree seeds lol
I remember playing the DS and GBA FOMT 🤣 and boy the DS version was hard. I never played this version but the cast is pretty much the same with the addition of a mermaid and harvest goddess i think 🤔 anyway great video

I broke my finger playing this game because I got excited when the "put a controller in the third slot and press start" item unlock cheat worked, 10/10, masterpiece of a game

The real trouble is when you do the money cheat too much and the game glitched out and acted like you had 0 money forever.

The Special Edition, which is the version you’re playing on the PS4, added lumina as a bachelorette, introduced the purchasing of the big field, fixed the strange and weird tools, added some cut scenes not available in the original edition, increased the types of fish to tiny, regular, big, and huge, and a whole lot more. The smoothness of the original edition was a big reason why I did this challenge on the GC. If I did the SE, it just wouldn’t be as nice to watch on UA-cam or twitch lol

Great question lol. I played the original game, which was published on the Nintendo GameCube. I know a lot of people who emulate the original or Another Wonderful Life on Dolphin. Unfortunately, I think making a video on how to essentially pirate Nintendo Intellectual Property wouldn't be the best idea, but there are plenty of people in my discord server and videos on UA-cam that could help you set it up!

True! There's very few options on PC for a quality farming game. I played almost 100 hours of stardew and really enjoyed it.

I don't like how the newer one was so saturated with colors and bright. The original has this nature and ethereal atmosphere, why did newer games has to be so bright?
I tend to agree. I'm hoping there are some PC mods when it is released on steam that can recolor the game. I'm guessing they changed up the color palette so much to make it more appealing to the younger audiences lol

Why people do not understand that team and studio is not the same thing?
The studio of Marvelous has change teams of developers and other accross the entire run of SOS. The teams of developers that create FOMT, HM64 and other are not even the same even between titles.
Having a studio Behind a game is not allways a qualifier of good or bad. People needs to take out their heads out of Marvelous ass and stop painting Natsume as the villain.

Thanks so much for your comment! The discourse surrounding the split is super interesting and I'm always looking to discuss it. I can admit that my phrasing wasn't super accurate. When I said team, I really meant corporation. I can appreciate the Marvelous probably have different groups of developers working on separate projects in parallel, and that the studio we know as Marvelous grew, shrunk, merged, and became an entirely different entity since their inception.
I wholeheartedly agree that Natsume isn't bad and Mavelous isn't good just because the internet said so or one has a trademark the other doesn't. Natsume is perfectly within their rights to create Harvest Moon games and they shouldn't be vilified for it. However, I think it's ludicrous to suggest that Natsume and Appci Co., the studio that has made all the HM games from 2014, is producing a quality farming simulator.
They can attempt to ride the coat tails of the Harvest Moon name all they want. The difference between HM titles before and after the split has proven, to me at least, that they don't care about creating a quality product that lives up to the Harvest Moon moniker that they were so desperate to keep. Otherwise, I feel that we would have seen an HM game that is at least on par with an SoS game, or even Stardew Valley who is developed by one person.
Wait a minute in ps2 version the grass is not fertelized and the third farm plot need to be unlock with money. it making progress alot harder
Yeah the PS2 version is the special edition and is loosely modeled off of Another Wonderful Life. It adds new mechanics like the "Big Field" and non-renewable grass. It does add to the difficulty, but I wanted to have a glitchless, lagless experience for UA-cam videos and twitch streams, and I always preferred the original version since it was the one I grew up with.

Lol ignorant American here; what does Morag mean? Also, I'm sure there is some truth to that. I wouldn't be surprised if the original translation isn't as blunt and dances around the interaction with more grace.
@@JackDuckGoose haha it's ok, Morag the Cow was a character on a TV show here in the late 90s, she was a talking Highland cow (a type of cow in Scotland) so it just feels like tribute I suppose. Yeah if it said "I'm here if you need me" or something it might have made more sense in general, but I still get the feeling better just because someone asked, even if that's just looking for meaning

Honestly, after the Story of Season's announcement of A Wonderful Life, all of a sudden, a bunch of HM:A/nWL came out and I'm loving it! Playing this game back in elementary/middle school, I was the only one who really knew and played this game so I had no one to talk about it with. Now with this rerelease, I'm soaking it all up with this fandom! Thank you for this vid. This is the most detailed "walkthrough" of how to 100% complete the game and it's literally like a 9-5 job, and you didn't skip a beat with hybrids, flowers, and recipes! I was SO impressed you got the weird/strange tools so early! Growing up, I've never past chapter 3 and it took me until chapter 3 to get all the strange/weird tools too. The game is soo long. I'm excited for more vids from you're channel! You gained a subscriber! 🤗

tbh this game doesn't have that much content compared to some other farming sim games, but for some reason I keep coming back to Forget-Me-Not Valley. Just like you Jack, me and my brother would take turns playing this game, although we use different save files and kinda compete in finishing the game. Miss the good ol days lol also Nami best girl
Absolutely! If I wanted to play a farming game rich with content, I would play Stardew or a newer SoS game, but those games don't have the same charm for me. Maybe it's the art or the ambiance, but I feel like AWL was as close to a relaxing, rural lifestyle simulator I can find, and I keep coming back to it. Also, Nami Gang stand up lol
This game came out when I was 14 and living in an unhealthy atomic family situation, but I also used to ask different people in the house to name my animals.
My mom named the cow Milky and I loved the cow extra because of that.
My vote goes for you to marry Muffy although I al already getting the vibe you want to marry Nami.

So happy to see someone doing a play through of this game. Honestly, muffy is my main girl to this day, so I would vote her. Especially after playing another wonderful life where you get those cutscenes of her yearning for someone to treat her well, I always want to give her a good life!

She definitely does come back, but you need to activate a cutscene in the Bar in chapter 2.

This was a DELIGHTFUL find! I don't know how on Earth you managed to make the daily routines of this game so engaging, but you're so entertaining to listen to. Believe it or not, I started Platinuming the PS3 version of this game for funsies in anticipation of the remake just a few weeks ago, so this was the perfect thing to watch while I do so! I've even learned a thing or two from seeing yours (and you're doing MUCH more in your run than I am - the trophies really aren't hard). I will wish you luck with Territory Capture, though. That thing is torture, I swear. I wish you luck with this entire endeavor, and I can't wait to keep tuning into this series! Hopefully I can catch you on Twitch soon.
