Damn.....I thought I was the only fool who collected old saws. It all started when my dad passed away and as a tribute to him I got his old Montgomery Ward saw running. Turned out to be a McCulloch 610. I now have 2 610's, a 650. Then I got hooked on those little Homelites. I have 3 XL2's and an XL. Recently I picked up a Super XL12 that I will restore. Thanks for the vid!
Ha ha ha, it's a sickness for sure. You have some nice saws. That Montgomery Ward (610), solid runner. The 650 is a ripper! All the saws you mentioned, I have in my collection as well. The McCulloch 600 series being some of my favorites. All the best!
Been collecting for only 3ish years. Have 80+ homelights, close to 100 older echo/deere saws, sold 60 macs and still have around 40, and roughly 50 older odds and ends, wrights, lombards, poulan, craftsman, pioneers, etc. Its an addiction. The little Xl2 saws came with both single and dual triggers and as small as an 8 inch bar.
The 1200 A is a solid saw. Very cool that you've had it since new! I was at 10 saws not too long ago. It's a deeeep hole you're getting into...ha ha ha
@@EightWheelsRollin Yeah, I just love tinkering with small engines, and getting things that haven't been running for years, working again. I'll be out getting some firewood soon, and hope to give them all a try. Cheers.
Nice haul. I collect, repair and love to cut wood with my vintage saws. Old cat mechanic--Albany Georgia--south west Ga. Keep the videos coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! Talk shop, repair and runs saws, you and I would get along just fine! Lucky you working for Cat. My brother-in-law is a diesel mechanic for the local fire department. With the lot of saws I just got, I should have no shortage of chainsaw videos for you!
The 295 Poulan is probably one of my favorite budget truck saws/sectioning firewood saws. I got one in a package deal a month or two ago. I had one with the funky ez-tensioner on the cover and swapped it out for a different clutch cover and adjustable bar like you have. They work great on the cheap and if i hurt it making firewood its no big loss to me. Unlike my older homelites i don't mind it getting beat up or letting a relative learn to use a saw with it. Awesome haul though! And the 3516 and similar models have nostalgia for me as my father used one for years and years and the saw cut way above its weight. Made good firewood for the average homeowner.
I've never run a 295. It sounds like it has been a good runner for you. The bar and chain tensioner is not something I've seen before. If you swapped out a bar and clutch cover for it, it must work well. Your 3516 story is similar to mine. My Dad had a Pro-Mac 510 growing up. Good stuff!
Wow, that is quite a haul , and quite diverse to boot ! I wonder if the guy that had the 10-10 wanted to get rid of the saw because it wouldn't cut. The chain is on backwards. HA HA ! Looks like you will be busy for quite awhile.
I thought the very same thing when filming the video, what an assorted bunch of saws. If there was anyone who would notice the backwards chain, it would be you, ha! An eye for detail, good catch! I do have my work cut out for me with this lot of saws, that's for sure. I'm looking forward to getting this herd running, some big old school muscle saws just begging to get back in the wood! Thanks for stopping by and for the comment!
The big Mac 1-70 most likely has a McCulloch carb on it, and the only place that has kits is Sugar Creek Supply. They have repro kits for a number of obsolete carbs, and have an excellent selection of decals also. If you are lucky and it had the carb upgrade to a Tillotson HL , the saw will be a lot easier to start and run. The little Mac is based on the Italian McCulloch designs FYI.@@EightWheelsRollin
I did check the 1-70, lucky for me it has the Tillotson HL carb. Thanks for turning me on to Sugar Creek Supply. I'm not sure about the 1-70, but Super 33 is going to need a carb kit for sure. I just picked up another Super 33 today. Between the two, I'm hoping to have at least one good runner. I don't know much about the little 3516. I've watched a few videos of people running them and rebuilding them. I'll have to dive into it at some point. Are they a good saw or are they a "Mr. Poo"?
Nice ! I’m jealous it looks like you have the pintail chain on that 33.. I totally restored one but have never found an original pintail for it. If you have an extra 1/2” pintail chain I might have some stuff that’ll help you complete yours I’d trade for. I know I have a chain cover and possibly one emblem and other odds & ends
I would love to see your restored 33! I have two Super 33's. I picked one up along with an older Pioneer 1200 a while back. The guy I got the saws from also gave me a box of rusted chain and a couple bars. I haven't had an opportunity to go through the box, so I'm not sure what saw the chain goes to. To top it off, I just moved and have no idea where the box is...ha ha. When I get settled, I'll take a look. Hit me up in a few months. That 1/2" pintail chain is hard to find.
@@EightWheelsRollin don’t mind me reving the hell out of it 😂. I had been tuning on the carb trying to get some top end. I have better still photos of it, the bar came out nice too you can kinda see it in the background. ua-cam.com/users/shortsLXcjs1JvEXo?feature=shared
Duuuude! That thing is C-H-E-R-R-Y. Great job Man! What paint did you use for the black, it looks OEM. I like the wrap on the handlebar too. She sounds great by the way! How was it working on the carb?
@@EightWheelsRollin Thank you! after failed attempts with various hammer/wrinkle paints i ended up using “VHT wrinkle plus” it has a picture of valve covers on the can, and it says it’s rated to 350 degrees which is a nice bonus. The carb wasn’t bad sugar creek supply had a diaphragm and filter and there is a good video on UA-cam on the process. (I replied earlier but it didn’t show up, this might be a duplicate.)
Howdy brother, in Denver and im also a Mcculloch fan too. Helped clean up a maintenance shop with saws and everything else. Got over 50 saws now, macs, homelites, poulan, craftsman and stihls. I should do a similar video! Lov chainsaws too. Latest acquisition is Mac model 73. Shes 120cc , circa 1955. Its huge!!!
How-dee. With 50 saws in your collection, I'd say you're hooked. The 73...that is a big ol' saw, similar in size to my 1-70. Chainsaws just grab hold of you and don't let go!
@EightWheelsRollin I even have a Mac 3-10E, 1966 electric start model. That was the biggest find at the cleanup. I figured a chainsaw addiction is better than a meth habit and way less bad for your health unless your dangerous with said chainsaw.
My favorite is the McCullough 610 grew up with one. I'm 45 just cut a load of oak with it. Of course I have 4 more that run. And two 700 pro macs. The Husqvarna 550 rancher sits on the shelf most days. 😅
Ha ha, I wouldn't argue with you. The 610 is one of my favorites, just solid saws. The 700 is a fantastic saw too! I'm a Mac guy first, followed closely by Stihl and a Homelite chaser....never owned a Husky. Not that they are bad saws, but just like you, I really like my Macs!
Great finds!
Thanks!

Don't feel bad about the saw addiction,I have the same problem, cant ever have enough, always looking for more,,love the vintage saws

Dang!! That's a lot of saws. I have hard time storing all that I have, I don't know how you manage?! The XL2 is an interesting little saw, I like it.
I've got a pioneer 1200 A I bought brand new back in the mid 70's. My collection is up to ten saws, so far.

Thanks! I'm right there with you, big old school muscle!
1-70 and XL-101 for the win!

Chain on the 1010 backwards 😂
Yup. The guy said it didn't cut very well...ha ha
Chains on the correct way on the mac at least.
Ha! Yeah, I think the guy that sold me the 10-10 might have had a hard time cutting with it.
Will u sell one of them
I don't normally sell my saws. What saws interest you and where are you located?
Lots of desirable saw's in this video. We drove 425 miles one way just to buy one saw
