This channel covers a wide range of topics. At its heart, a tool and equipment driven channel. Tools and equipment grab me, they just do. I have a soft spot for the vintage variety. On this channel I highlight some of my favorite tools in the shop, showcase vintage chainsaws, blacksmithing, review and run power equipment, how-to, shop projects and review new tools as well.

Harbor Freight/Midwest Can-5 Gal Jerry Can & EZ-Pour Spout-Best Gas Can Combo?
I have two 6 gallon plastic gas cans I've had for years, they finally gave up the ghost. I had to find something new to replace them. I'm not a big fan of any of the new cans that they have available these days. The new cans restrict fuel flow and make filling up bigger equipment a time killer.
I started doing some research and found a good quality 5 gallon jerry can at Harbor Freight. While it had one of the better EPA friendly spouts, I still didn't like it. I found a company called EZ-Pour which made a flexible aftermarket spout that worked with the can, now we're getting somewhere. The spout also came with a vent to increase flow, now we're in business.
In this video I'll give you an overview of what I found and my honest thoughts on the can and spout.
I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching!
If you found the video informative or were somewhat entertained, please consider subscribing, sharing or liking the video. It all helps, and I sure do appreciate it!

I had a ~20,000 sq ft section of property that I needed to clear out for my shipping container shop that I will be building. I first started clearing the property with a machete. I made good progress, but it was HARD work. After 6 hours in the field, I had had enough. I finally broke down and rented the Billy Goat brush hog to finish the job, and BOY am I glad I did! This thing is an absolute B...

I have a riding mower, but I needed a garden tractor. You can mow and maintain acreage with a riding mower, but it goes much better for you if you have a garden tractor. The garden tractor gives you more torque, towing ability/capacity and bigger tires and wheels. The tractor is set up so that you can attach implements to both the front and rear of the tractor. Implements such as a sleeve hitch...

It’s been a crazy month for me with my move and my Dad passing away. I finally had a chance to start unpacking and think about where I want to build my new shop. I have two spots on the property that I think will work for me. So, I now live on 14 acres. Of the 14 acres, 10.5 acres are utilized by tenant farmers. What is a tenant farmer you ask? Well, a tenant farmer farms land owned by a landlo...

When running a small shop, storing tools, parts and equipment can be a challenge. While I made it work, it was not easy at times. This video gives some insight into how I made it work for me. Maybe it helps in setting up your small shop. It has been a bit since I uploaded a new video. There are a couple reasons for that. Reason one as noted in the title, I'm moving. Firewood season is winding down. I had one stubborn round and few odds and ends that I sat aside when I was splitting. The round has four or five knots in it and better suited for my chainsaw than my axe. With the sun out I thought now would be a good time to take care of business. Out to the shop I go. I grabbed one of my favorite saws, The Pioneer Farmsaw. She starts up easy, has tons of powe...

It has been a long road with this saw. I picked this saw up months ago in package deal with several other saws. She was powerhead only and was locked up. When I started going through the saw I found a galvanized nail jammed in the fly wheel which was preventing me from pulling the starter. I pulled out the nail and thought, that was an easy fix. Nope. The saw would pop-off, but ran at ~30,000 R...

Life throws you lots of curve balls. It's nice to sometimes find a heater right down the middle that you can hit out of the park. This deal was just that for me. I got a cool, old school muscle saw and two boxes of parts dropped in my lap when I wasn't even looking for it. It looks like there may be enough parts to build at least one additional saw. If you're into chainsaws, you just can't beat...

I tried, I really did try to suppress my “need” for more more chainsaws. I was able to control myself for a short period of time and then I was back to rescuing vintage chainsaws from the dump. I really need to stop after this haul. At least until the end of the year. I have a lot going on and I’m starting to have more non-runners than runners in the shop. The script needs to flip for me. Stories. I like stories. This vintage chainsaw now has one. I just got this saw in the shop. I didn't clean it, check for spark or adjust a thing. I gave it a once over, put fuel in it and put it in the wood. I like the saw. I don't like the chain. It's the "safest" safety chain I have ever seen. I sharpened it, knocked down the rakers and it still fought me in the wood. I like the bar, but I d...
Braun LED Pocket Penlight Review - In The Shop or EDC, It's A Winner! - Harbor Freight

I may have a "thing" for lights. Specifically, work lights, flashlights and penlights. I use a penlight when I'm working on small engines in the shop. I also have it on me when I'm running my hauling and junk removal business as an every day carry (EDC) light. It's small, thin, rechargeable, clips to my pocket and gets into places other lights can't . When I need it, it shines bright. A definit...

This is a very cool vintage chainsaw. I almost missed out on it, and I'm kicking myself. This saw was a total mess and sat on Craigslist for quite some time, no takers. I finally ran up to get it just before it was heading to the dump, and I'm glad I did. It cleaned up nice. It's in a lot better shape than I thought it would be based on the pictures that were posted. A very brief history of vin...

Vintage McCulloch Pro Mac 650 Chainsaw - First Cuts - Needs A Little Work
I bought one similar to this one in 2001. It is a GT 3000 48”” deck with a 23 HP Kohler Command Pro. I paid $2800 for it brand new and retired it still running/working. I had to rebuild the deck once and replace the electric PTO once, that’s it! I made the mistake of using a zero turn mower once and had to have one.
he did mention it before the video started , milwaukee rider
Vaughan and Bushnell hammers is made in Bushnell Illinois. After 150 years they were bought out by Marshall Town Hammers over the summer in order to keep the plant from closing. Interestingly Vaughan and Bushnell started in Chicago and later moved to Bushnell. I grew up in Bushnell and always thought they were named after the town, a couple years ago the celebrated 150 years and I was gifted a Commemorative hammer with a plaque detailing the history.
Thanks for the history lesson, very cool. I'm glad they are still being made in the US of A! I bought my 21 oz Vaughn years ago, best hammer ever made in my opinion.
I have one just like that my neighbor was making fun of it cause it is so old I left it sitting outside for a year on the ground pick it up mow and set it back down I put fresh gas in it and started right up
They are like that, they just work. Tell your neighbor he needs to get one!
Howdy brother, in Denver and im also a Mcculloch fan too. Helped clean up a maintenance shop with saws and everything else. Got over 50 saws now, macs, homelites, poulan, craftsman and stihls. I should do a similar video! Lov chainsaws too. Latest acquisition is Mac model 73. Shes 120cc , circa 1955. Its huge!!!
How-dee. With 50 saws in your collection, I'd say you're hooked. The 73...that is a big ol' saw, similar in size to my 1-70. Chainsaws just grab hold of you and don't let go!
@EightWheelsRollin I even have a Mac 3-10E, 1966 electric start model. That was the biggest find at the cleanup. I figured a chainsaw addiction is better than a meth habit and way less bad for your health unless your dangerous with said chainsaw.
I agree 100%! The 3-10E, heard of them, never seen one. Rare find!
do to stupid laws keep a perfect working tube like this with the cans at all times. as the penalty can be HUGE. but use a better one for usage.
I agree!
you can install a vet. but best before putting any fuel into the can. weld a bung inside/under the handles. with a copper tubing going down to the bottom rear of the can. a simple pipe threaded plug closes the vent hole. but in this case you would need to weld on the can. another way. is use a short threaded tire valve. ( no guts, use a metal cap) just not sure if the soft compounds here are gasoline safe. made same way with a smaller copper tube going to the rear bottom. but no welding on the can for this. or just build your own pour spout with a tube in it for getting air in the can as the gas flows out.
All good ideas. I did seriously thing about fabbing my own pour spout and vent. I decided to go with, GoldPlug GOLD Anodized Pops-A-Vent. Made it USA.
You sound like some kinda hoist-junky. We can tell our own kind a part from others. & don't let that get u down cause u can just hoist it back up.....🤦duh...sorry
Great finds!
Thanks!
Thank you
You bet!
there is a 2100 lumen one that looks similar.
That's some serious heat in a small package...
Chain on the 1010 backwards 😂
Yup. The guy said it didn't cut very well...ha ha
Looks spray painted. It’s definitely spray painted. It’s all over the handle. lol come one
If you say so...
What was your cleanup process for this saw? It looks great!
Thanks, she did turn out pretty good. I start by emptying any fluids. I then take an air compressor to it and blow all the old oil, chips and grime off of it. Be carful not to go too hard with the air, you'll remove paint on some of these old saws. Then it's elbow grease with a can of WD40, paper towels and tons of cotton swabs.
I had the same issue with my 360 my boot was toast! Thanks, man!
You bet!
Love these units. This one is about 50% slower then it should be. Get a nice sharpened chain and check the oiler. High side needs some adjustment.
Me too. I really think it needs a new piston and rings, but, no time for that right now...ha ha.
Use deionized water and some dawn liquid or full strength awesome cleaner, you will not get a color change in your aluminum or magnesium
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.
Awesome Saw! What Oregon bar mount are you using for this Pioneer Saw?
Oregon 280RNDD009 .050" Gauge 3/8" Pitch 28" Power Match Bar. I had to drill out the chain tensioning stud to make it work, easy mod.
Awesome thank you!
Just picked up a P20 with intact cover/filter. Replaced the fuel pickup because it was cracked and sucking air. After replacing the line, she fired right up and cut through reasonable sized aspen like it wasn't even trying. Nice and light in comparison to my MS362 daily driver. What a treasure.
I'm really impressed with the P20 for the same reasons as you. These old Pioneer saws just work...
Great review, we're stoked to be a part of what you're doing!
I appreciate it. You build a SOLID trailer. Two years workin' hard...no issues.
@@EightWheelsRollin 💪👊
I've got a pioneer 1200 A I bought brand new back in the mid 70's. My collection is up to ten saws, so far.
The 1200 A is a solid saw. Very cool that you've had it since new! I was at 10 saws not too long ago. It's a deeeep hole you're getting into...ha ha ha
@@EightWheelsRollin Yeah, I just love tinkering with small engines, and getting things that haven't been running for years, working again. I'll be out getting some firewood soon, and hope to give them all a try. Cheers.
The best presentation for dummies. Thank you.
You bet, glad I could help!
Harbor freight is the best
They fill the massive void left by Sears fairly well...
I got one recently that was owned by my dad, RIP. Looking forward to restoring it back its former glory. Thanks for the vid!
Sorry for your loss. Lost my Dad recently. He left you a great saw, one of my favorites!
Been collecting for only 3ish years. Have 80+ homelights, close to 100 older echo/deere saws, sold 60 macs and still have around 40, and roughly 50 older odds and ends, wrights, lombards, poulan, craftsman, pioneers, etc. Its an addiction. The little Xl2 saws came with both single and dual triggers and as small as an 8 inch bar.
Dang!! That's a lot of saws. I have hard time storing all that I have, I don't know how you manage?! The XL2 is an interesting little saw, I like it.
Mind Blown 😮😲😮😊
Ha! Mine too when I picked her up...
can the Midwest Jerry Can be stored on their flat side without spilling? I'm thinking of mounting to my roof rack but it sits too high on its base and edges. i rather lay it flat but im worried about leaks
In theory I'd say yes as long as the seals are good, but I don't really know for certain. I've never stored them that way.
@EightWheelsRollin thanks! and i wouldn't store them full time. just when on the go. I'll probably do some testing of my own
Had this saw, was okay for being a “free tool” (buy a 5.0 battery starter kit get a tool free) yes It’s fine for a quick cut here and there but it struggled on lumber larger than a 2x4. Then I purchased the Fuel 2nd gen 7-¼ saw and It’s a night and day difference and made me realize how much of a toilet this brushed model is, so I had no use for it anymore. New saw has identical power to a 15amp saw.
I got mine as a free tool as well. It has its place, but I agree, definitely not a saw meant for framing. It's a trim saw. I use mine to cut fence boards and anything small in size. Good saw, when I need something cordless.
Thanks. Great informative video.
You bet!
I found the one I learned to cut with in my granddad's hangar a few years ago. Sat 20+ years unused. I blew out the air filter, added fresh gas, and she started within a few pulls. These saws will always be my favorite.
What a cool story. That's what makes these saws so great, they're reliable and just get work done. Keep 'er in the wood!
FYI. Everything from Harbor Freight is made in China.
A high percentage yes, all no. I've bought several products from HF that are made in USA. As to this can, it is stamped USA. I don't know if that means made in USA or not? Midwest Can Company, the company that makes this can, is USA owned.
Okay boomer
Thanks for showing how fast this works on a large tire going up to 60 psi. This is going to work for my Ram Rebel with 33 inch AT tires airing up from 20 psi to 55 psi front and 45 psi rear. I'm switching away from a Smitty-like setup with 4-hose connections (taking too much time setting up and also packing up, and recently ended up crimping one of the fast coupling valve connector... rendering the 4-hose setup useless).
You bet. You're going to like it. It's much better than the Smittybilt setup you have. Should handle your 33's no problem.
What length is the one used in this video?
36 inches...
@@EightWheelsRollin Thank you!
The Dewalt you have ejects dust etc. I am used to heavy industrial grinders from Makita, Metabo, and DeWalt and always return to Milwaukee. They put lots of RND into ergonomics .
I agree. Milwaukee works, and better than most.
@@EightWheelsRollin Puse when you working long shifts in the heat in an industrial setting last thing you want is a heavy grinder that wont feel good in your hand.
Exactly! You get it...
@@EightWheelsRollin Not not mention I lovw their cordless tools. Prece per proformence is just grewat.
Excellent machine - I've had mine for 28 years and it works hard every summer.
Wow, 28 years and going strong! I use mine every winter moving wood and in my hauling business. Great machine!
Just found one yesterday. Doesn't run but I'm gonna get to work on it asap.
I'm sure you'll have it runnin' in no time. Have fun with it!
Thanks for the video!! I’m gonna try it out. Never been so excited for a light. 😂
Ha! Enjoy it!
Very informative video. Thank you so much! Crafter here, and I just had the wind break my canopy at an event because I didn't have it strapped down. This is my introduction to rachet straps. LOL I appreciate this video more than you know. I'll be better prepared this weekend. 😉
Sorry to hear that your canopy took flight...that's never a good day. I'm sure things will go much better for you this weekend! Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate the kind words!
I have the same one except the mower deck is a 50 inch cutting
A 50" deck on this GT would be nice...
@@EightWheelsRollin I got mine in 2021 for $ 300 the mower deck is a double belt system the top pulley on the trim side is hard to find but it is sold on e.bay as far as the blades go they are a medium lift I prefer the high lift to get better Air Flow to discharge the grass the engine is a Kohler pro v twin cylinder with hydraulic lifters mine does The same thing as yours on start up as in white smoke coming from the engine which is oil being burnt in the cylinders mi have a set of snow blower tires on the front repainted the mower deck and the front and rear wheels wouldn't take any money 💸 for it no Way no how
Your mower for $300...that's a steal of a deal. My mower deck is also a double belt system. My belts aren't too hard to find, scamazon. I just replaced both before my last mowing of the season. I'm with you on the high lift blades, much better. I wouldn't sell mine either.
@@EightWheelsRollin the one thing is The double pulley on the trim side is hard to find but I found it on eBay plus I use Kevlar belt s to drive The mower deck
The pulley on the trim side, not the belt, ha ha. I need to slow down when I read comments. I use the same belts. I hope to get at least a season out of my belts, maybe two if I'm lucky. I run through a lot of mole holes, which is tough on everything, but especially belts.
I love that extra Home Light 150 I don't have one of those in my collection I have 18 vintage saws most of them are home lights and Poland
It's a cool little saw. If you collect Homelite saws, you definitely need one!
Thanks for this. Did you ever get it running? I found a 360 at the dump in similar condition. Took it home and it initially fired, thought it was ok but today it did the start & rev to the moon thing. Going to clean the carb and potentially source a boot but wondering how it ended for you
You know, I filmed that video right before a major move and I haven't had a chance to look at the saw again. My issue, so I think, is the impulse inlet being clogged. I'll put out another video on the saw when I get it back up and running. Good luck with yours...good saw!
Can you perform controlled lowering (under load) with the lever hoist?
You bet!
I got two
You have two great saws!
My name is that good of shape but it runs great
That's all that matters...
Where did you buy that hitch?
I bought it on Amazon. Extreme Max 5001.5825 3-Way Lawn Garden Tractor Hitch. Great Hitch!
I like that mower I got one just like it
You have yourself a great garden tractor. I mow and manage ~3 acres with it, no issues.
Go with the 24 inch bar. 28 a little too much.
I do like a 24" bar...
I bought one. If it will roll over it, it will take it out. I hit a cinder block with mine, it shattered the block into a hundred pieces and never stopped. It will flat wear you out running it. I have to stop long before the machine stops. I am so glad I made the investment. I have 5 acres that I have to keep up. I've tried all kinds of trimmers and cutters. Wish I had just started with the Billy Goat. Very much worth the investment. And it is an investment. I got mine for $4800. I'd buy it again, in a heart beat.
I had to laugh reading your comment, so true. I've run one a handful of times now and you're right, it will wear you out LONG before it tires out. It will lay waste to anything in its path, including your cinder block! Ha ha ha! I'm saving my pennies and hope to get one someday. I agree 100%, well worth the money. Thanks for stopping by and making me laugh!
I got 3 icon lights and the bar that goes across the hood and also liked them so much that they have the outlet on the back to charge your phone so I bought one for mom and dad d
I've seen the under hood light, cool light. I really don't think you can beat the lighting options at Harbor Freight. Icon or Braun, they just work, and work good!
I have never liked the new gas cans after I'd say the year 2005 they make make a mess and are predictably hard to use when speed is a factor
I agree 100%.
