Expression pedals can give you hands-free control over numerous synth parameters. Learn the right way to connect an expression pedal to your synth, and shop expression pedals at Sweetwater 👉 bit.ly/3wM8kJh
I have a large collection of synths, but only two of them have an expression pedal on them. One is the Hydrasynth Deluxe, the Hydrasynth really shines with the expression pedal, because it is so crazy flexible as you demonstrated. The other one is my Montage. By default, the Montage and MODX assign the expression pedal to the super knob, so when your hands are busy, you can still operate the super knob with your foot - and like the Hydrasynth, the super knob can be assigned to a multitude of different functions all at the same time. For the MODX and Montage, I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the Yamaha FC-7 pedal, as other pedals just don't have the travel and sensitivity required to do those synths justice.
Yes, I have a Motif XF and only the FC-7 does the job well. But then again, I didn't get it to work with my Hydrasynth. There I use the Moog expression pedal. (I believe it's the same model as Daniel is using.)
Great video 👍. I've been trying to figure out how to use an expression pedal with my modular setup but it will need a little circuit board to make it into a CV. Cool that Moog built that in.
I would love to see you do one for connect the FC7 to the MODX+. I have been looking all over for tutorial. The few that I have found have not been helpful.
Any advice on what expression to use on my Oberheim OB-Xa? I am trying out a Moog EP-3 (for filter or vibrato), but the curve is not linear, smooth and musical. I would describe it as a logarithmic curve that isn't easy to control and use musically (changes to quickly and then doesn't change much at all).
Hi Dr Akins. Do you know anyone who has an expression pedal with a "Polarity" switch on the bottom? It very well might be the solution. Also, try a Yamaha FC-7 Footcontroller if you have access to one. -_Daniel_

Daniel, you're the best at this stuff. You communicate so simply and clearly. Thank you.

This video answered so many questions. Now I know why my expression pedal wasn't responding as I'd hoped it would. Wasn't the pedal, it was me. Lol
Setting up anything is nearly effortless on the Hydrasynth, makes it a no-brainer choice for this demo.

Super useful video and super useful tool. Is like having 3 hands

So it is a trs plug. The voltage changes between t and r?
There is a 100K potentiometer between tip and ring

6:28 I beg to differ
THANK YOU THE MANUAL DOES NOT REALLY HELP MUCH.
