Agreed! Thanks Emily for pointing out the range switch on the EP-3
      $50 in the houuuuse
On the note of parameter control, I was all about being able to being able to set heel/toe for whatever settings you want until I owned a pedal with that capability, but now I think a simpler “select which parameter the exp pedal controls” is more up my alley. The Mr. Black Pana-trem and Supro analog delay are like that. Seems the best for creating the sounds you want on the fly. I think the old blood noise slider guy is rad too. Shit all their exp variants are tight. Joysticks and springs look fun too :)

The avalanche run is perfect. I quit playing guitar for about a year after playing for decades due to burnout, then last year I got back into it full swing and the Avalanche Run was the first pedal I bought. I knew it had an expression jack but thought “why would I want one for a reverb/pedal?” I got an Ep-3 a couple months ago and that’s when I really unlocked the pedal. I didn’t know that if expression is controlling the Time setting, it changes the way it works quite a bit that’s only achieved with expression. It’s just amazing and makes me happy I got back into playing.

This is such a great video - your relaxed style of presentation really allows for a proper exploration of what each pedal does. Hearing them all played on a harp somehow gives you a different perspective about how they'd sound if you applied them to a guitar (or that's my experience). Your playing was melodic and gently melancholic (in a therapeutic way...it's a compliment, not a bad thing). I always look forward to hearing you play and finding out what ideas and sounds you're experimenting with. Thank you for another lovely video!

The wackier/fancier ones are interesting, especially the Ramper, but I really like the simplicity and wide range of uses for the Bookmark, the Chase Bliss roller and the good old wah-stype footpedal. Has anyone made a widget that takes input from a webcam and uses facial recognition algorithms to let you control a pedal by glaring/smiling/poking your tongue out at it? Y'know, a literal Expression Pedal. Reckon that would be a fun project to attempt!

There's actually a lot of ways to use point cloud data (kinect-like cams) or even rvb data (standard video / webcams) to make music with, mostly using TouchDesigner linked with something like Ableton (or any daw that allows external routing in/outs)
You can then compose with litteral expressions, but also with a lot more, like movement, colors, depth, saturation, lightness, negative space and pretty much everything you can think of.
The "simple" use of such routings is to allow theremin-like controls of any vst you throw at it.

The little switch saying "standard" and "other" on the bottom of your change the wiring between the pot and the TRS jack.
On all pedals you have ground on one side of the pot, a fixed reference voltage on the other side, and the output voltage value you adjust with your pedal (something between reference voltage and ground) on the wiper.
There are two types of wiring on the market. One known as the Yamaha type have reference voltage on tip contact and output voltage on ring contact of the TRS. The other type known as Roland type is wired the opposite way. So depending on what pedal you plug in your expression pedal, you the one of these settings.
There are also some solutions using just a TS jack. They have a fixed resistance in front of the expresson pedal jack, and the expression pedal is used to do the other resistance to ground. Works fine with a special cable pedals with 10k, but with higher values than 10k you only can use a small part of your pedal way to control the full range.
If I remember right, Moog use the Roland type wiring for standard.

There are some pedals that use an expression pedal with a TS cable. The Digitech RP100 is one. Thanks for pointing out that they generally use the TRS type cables, this makes me curious enough to look into that! And IF you’re into analog synthesizer gear, with the control voltages? You can plug control voltage signals into those expression pedal jacks! Just be certain that you know that your CV ranges are within your pedals’ tolerances. ¡¡THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH I just made the connection between pedals as musical computer technology and the modular synthesizer video that Rob Scallon put out a little bit ago. That is another video that I'm chunking. So, do I understand it correctly that expression pedals change how much a "thinger" does its thing? If the pedal's thing is reverb rate, then the expression pedal will alter the reverb pedal's rate, so instead of wwwwWWWWWAAAAHHHHhhhhhhwwwwwwWWWWWWAAAAAAAHHHHHhhhhh you get wWAHhwWAHhwWAHhwWAHh.
Also, Leems Neems is a one dimensional pedal, in that it only works on one axis (in and out), Pineal Gland is two dimensional (in, out, left, right)...what about...stay with me!...what about a three dimensional pedal?! You'd have a gantry that slides up and down the pedal, with a bead suspended by string or wire on the gantry that could move up and down and left and right?! I don't know if that would be musically effective or gimmicky, but coming up with it helps to internalize all the tons I'm learning.
Thanks for sending me this video! I feel so much more equipped to talk about music from more recently than, oh, ~1860. You rock.

Thanks for the rolling, sliding, parametric adventure in making more and less of things. The bookmark pedal is very cool; is the graphic a print of an old book page, or are they cutting them out of actual books? (cute fr og g tho)

Because our hands are busy when we're playing, as I was watching this video I started wondering if there exists a way to save the entire sequence of changes to your effects pedals, brought about during a song by means of moving the expression pedal. So, you could think of this as a kind of "patch," but one that remembers a sequence of electronic events, and sends control voltage to the affected accordingly. Maybe it could be done from within a DAW. Maybe it would be more practical for a DAW that had this kind of functionality to be connected an Axe FX III or similar unit, since all of its effects are electronic emulations of pedals.

I immediately thought of Classic Audio FX when CBA announced the EXP. Didn’t realize the former had folded and sold the design to CBA, though!
Side note: I tried to search for Classic Audio’s website, and was surprised that their website quickly auto filled. Guess what happened next… it took me to Amazon! Talk about a clever way to get affiliate commission once your website is no longer necessary!

I just saw a video where they used EHX talking machine and an expression pedal to get these really neat sounds. I just got my first one because of your video and that one! Also have you tried talking machine?

Bad news Emily, your assistant put that part in.
I loved the Chase Bliss one, so cool. I had no idea they had it! I don't *need* one, but now I really want it.
Who is your stylist? Is it Russ? They have a great eye!

Lmaooo Alan!! Russ really did me dirty 😂 the Chase Bliss one is super cool and really well built! I think it’s going on the board I’m building!
I’m my own stylist 😂 lmaooo I try to get Russ to help me with style advice but he never knows what to say 😂
Thanks for popping in on the live streams lately!! They’ve been super fun :)

how did you set up the harp to play thru an amp? a special pickup like what goes on acoustic guitar? or specially made for a harp?

Emily, just because you use weird expression pedals, and you use your nose to control them, I don't think you're weird. Just continue to be yourself. You're good enough, you're smart enough, and, gosh darn it, people like you.

Your time is DEFINITELY not running out!! Seriously, I never thought I’d find someone. I thought I was a total weirdo because the people I dated in the past were never interested in the harp, much less in pedal effects. One person I dated even said “why would you even bother taking up such an expensive hobby...? You should sell your harp and buy a car” 😥 I promise you that there are so many women out there who will share in the excitement of your interests and your life; you just have to be patient and always keep an open heart!! 🥰❤️

So, hope this is not a foolish question, but would y'all say that it would be better to make a DIY pedal to just have an expression in instead of making a treadle yourself?
Also, please don't use your foot for the OBNE slider. The little fader is kinda delicate at least according to the box and the repeated warnings not to use your foot to adjust the slider.
