Honestly, no amount of realism justifies setting the price of a single aircraft higher than the price of the whole game itself. I think it would be more realistic to charge 70$ for the whole 737 family

@@EasternEuropeanAvgeek Nah it's pretty standard. You're not appreciating the fidelity of the product. DCS has aircraft modules priced at 60-80USD as well. It might be "just one aircraft" but the amount of work they put into it... it's like a "full game".

For the 'hardcore' airline simulator, the -800 makes a lot of sense. It's by far the most produced version of the NG family. The addition of the BBJ and the BDSF & BCF is neat as the people who would care for the differences between the two freighter versions would know the difference between the two freighter versions.
From a 'value' perspective, the -600 is impossible to beat. $35 for all of the PMDG depth and simulation is in my opinion the sweet spot of value.
I bought the -700 as I enjoy SWA ops, I also bought the -600 because the JANET service out of KLAS has always intrigued me. But I'm skipping the -800 & 900 and holding out for the release of the Max8 whenever that comes.

The problem I always had with -600 and -700 is they aren't used much these days IRL. Certainly the -600 pricing reflects the lack of interest, if you were to ask me.
I skipped those and got the -800 because it's a plane flown a lot today. I'm sure -900 will be just as interesting whenever it comes out too

Re load times, yes it takes 10 minutes or so to load when first installed or after an update but after that I've not noticed the PMDG 737 taking any longer to load than other aircraft in the sim. The FBW A32NX experimental version takes approximately 5 minutes to load on my system after an update and their updates are a lot more frequent than PMDGs.

Absolutely if spending 68 dollars isn't a problem as it is one of the only few modules with perfectly working autopilot and highly detailed cockpit and airframe with tons of free livieres and good update cycle that really fixes bugs and adds new features. It's simply brilliant.

As they say, load times are only a bit longer when you load a new repaint or variant of the aircraft. For me, the PMDG takes only slightly longer than the FBW A320, which I have flown a lot, prior to this release. And yes, I bought the -700 variant mainly to get a look at just how good this is. Remember, we have a totally new Simulator here, so how well will this new Jet function? That was a question I needed to have answered so I got the -700 version to see. But like many, I was really looking forward to the -800, having flown hundreds of hours in the FSX and P3D versions. And a note about cost? Currently the P3D version of this aircraft (737NGXu base package) costs US$99.99 - so $70 is pretty good! And as you pointed out you get four different types and two winglet versions, plus a load of free liveries and ground equipment too! When you stop and think about how many hours of coding and testing it took to bring all this to us, I am very happy with the price! You really do get a lot. EFB? Yes, it's coming - and it's free and will be customised to the PMDG aircraft, not just and after thought because the A320 has one! And the road map from PMDG says continuous development, which again will be free updates! What more can we ask for?
I enjoyed the fidelity of the P3D version very much. And the FSX version was good too, even though at that time my system did sometimes struggle. I'm happy to see everything I knew about the P3D version, present in this new product - and a whole lot more too! And I am amazed to be able to look out of the cockpit and view the terrain below which looks so real!
I understand that some are still having issues with the Jet and my hope is that they will be solved so that people can enjoy the aircraft and have the fun and challenge that I'm having. I love it. Thanks for your review and for the video. All the best - Lee

      @Smasher77th 2 роки тому +1

      I totally agree with you.
It amazes me how everyone keeps claiming that it's the same aircraft, bla bla bla only bigger. That's a big fat lie, and these comments are flippant and lazy, and always comes from people who are dealing with PMDG for the first time. Every single variant flies differently because in real life they do fly differently, and PMDG has modeled every single flight physics. The BW versions fly differently from the SSW versions in PMDG, just like IRL. They have categorically stated that, and both real-life 737 pilots, both in their tech team, and outside of that, have corroborated these facts. No visit to the forums, nothing. Just come on YT to basically whine about something we actually begged them for, and they complied.
Previously, if like me, you were interested in the BBJs, you'd have to buy the base package (800/900) @ $99.99, then the expansion at @ $29.99. If you were only interested in the 700, that was 99.99 + 24.99. For the Cargo, that was 99.99 + 29.99! All because every variant depended on the base package. They were just expansions. Unless you happened to just want the 800/900, and even then, it would cost you $99.99. Right now, you do that for just 69.99, and you have 8 variants that each fly differently, and YES, they fly differently. Also, look all the equipment it comes with! If it's an equipment that exists on the 737NG, it's included, at least 95%. And all these equipment options are not cosmetic, they actually represent their IRL counterparts. That's PMDG. The only time they ever made a cosmetic and visual-only expansion was the first Queen of the Skies, the -8i/f expansion, and even then, they made it clear that it was cosmetic. In fact they had you check a box on the purchase page, indicating that you understood the fact that the engines and flight characteristics of the 747-8 were not modeled, and that it was just cosmetic.
We already knew the EFB would take time, we already knew the cabin would be low res first, then a better was coming for free, we already knew the wheel well is just a placeholder, and they're gonna model a detailed one. For all these inconveniences, that's why they're selling them for $69.99 now. Anyone buying after all promised features are in place, will pay the actual price of $74.99. We already knew this months ago because they took their time to explain this.
Also, I don't understand this utter rubbish about the nosewheel steering not working. That's a LIE. It works like its IRL counterpart. In the beginning, there was a problem because Asobo's blanket one-size-fits-all "Cessna-esque" rudder/steering was conflicting with it, and Asobo was trying to fix it because it was their problem, not PMDG's. Now it's fixed, and if anyone bothered to read the instructions, they'd know exactly what to do, depending on if you have a tiller axis or not.
I think anyone coming on UA-cam to do a review should at least do a simple research and state your prejudices which are 90% of the time false, as facts. From the comments here it's obvious no research was done.

Have you not experienced the plane not being able to maintain altitude? Especially during turns using vnav at slower speeds like 180kts. The -800 broke altitude restriction by 400ft turning to final as shown on FlightDeck2Sim, a real world 737 pilot. I experienced the same thing. Also during climb, spd bug jumps up and down up to 40kts. The climb page also shows fluctuations of target spd. Fmc cant decide what spd to use so it jumps all over. Not impressed.

@@Sim737Pilot He and thanks for your reply. No, I have not experienced any of these things! Just flew it again today on a 3.6 hour flight from London Gatwick to Kharkiv, Ukraine and all really smooth. It even coped quite well with a near 85-degree left turn onto the ILS! As a long time computer user, I do realise that people's experiences will be different from PC to PC. I'm sorry you are having issues. But for me the aircraft is performing as it should, given that this is a simulation of the 737-800 and not the real thing. They get very close - and this is as far as we can go perhaps. But for me, it works. All the best and I hope your issues are solved so that you can enjoy the aircraft too. Lee

With the variety of liveries available for it too, you can basically achieve the same levels of satisfaction, albeit in a shorter, lighter plane. How can you possibly say they're the same? A 700 and 800 have generational differences in cockpit features, AND a longer plane will handle differently because physics......flare is different, rotation is different, flight handling. As for price, it is still cheaper and more accessible that P3D was. You get more, and don't have to spend money on something you don't want. MANY people only really want one variant, maybe two. We asked that people be allowed to buy just what they want, and not to have to buy a base pack at $99.99, then an expansion pack of $24.99 to $29.99.
Amazing how they seem to know it's the same plane, and none of them has ever flown more than one variant, but so opinionated. I've flown all variants in FSX and everything is actually modeled and flight physics of a blended wing is different from that of a Split-scimitar, just like IRL.
With just the 800 variant, not only are you getting 8 different aircraft that fly differently, you are also getting all options available. All you have to do is go to the CDU and enable that option, and you can even do that on the fly. And all this at just $74.99. And because all features are not yet available (EFB, modeled wheel well (the one right now is just a placeholder), better cabin, etc.), you're getting a $5 discount, available until all features are complete, then it'll go back to the actual price of $74.99. Compare that to the Fenix and you begin to realize that that's an insult to the PMDG aircraft. People need to know how to look beyond their noses. Someone claimed there was no passenger cabin. How ridiculous! Another claimed the cockpit was too clean and cartoony. How do the cockpits look IRL at purchase? Does any airplane buyer get to the manufacturers and say "oh and make sure the cockpit is as rotten as possible or I ain't buyin'"? Heck No! They buy second hand because they can't afford a new one. If they saw a brand new one and a very used one at the same low price, they'd obviously choose the brand spanking new one without batting an eyelid.

The PMDG 737 (all variants) are good aircraft, but important things are missing or not good.
    - Horrible ground steering (release controller, nosewheel immediately centered)
    - Sound on takeoff: whine sound comes too early, is too loud
    - Engine spool up on takeoff too fast
    - No typical "transition" sound on takeoff from idle to 40%
    - Horrible fluttery wingflex that is done better by FBW and Fenix
    - No walkable cabin (why?)
    - No EFB
    - Not possible to look left/right/up/down in passenger views
    - No Simbrief integration (load flight plan directly online without file)
    - Aircraft does not feel weighty like an airliner
    - Questionable flight physics on landing/takeoff (veering off the runway if 1% too much rudder applied)
    - Cockpit looks too clean / like in a comic book. No worn down textures etc.

"Aircraft doesnt feel weighty like an airliner" MSFS physics have their limits, and the pmdg cant go beyond that. For the rudder i would say that the one on the real plane is very effective as well, you have to be gentle with it. The older versions on the previous sims arent any different anyway, just a matter of time before we get used to the flight controls.

    • @Smasher77th
      @Smasher77th 2 роки тому +2

Obviously you have not bothered to know what's up. If you did, you'd realize that everything you've complained of is coming. that's why this is an "early adopter version, and also why you have a $5 dollar discount, because you got it when all the features are not in. There has always been an EFB if you got the P3D versions, you'd know this. They're just building a new EFB from the ground up, one that looks like a Tablet, and not the one provided by Boeing, since that one looks clunky and outdated, and most IRL airlines are discarding them and using new tech.
Your comment about "cockpit looks too clean" is laughable at best. Everyone pretends that dirty cockpit is an attribute to emulate. NO, it's not. No one would ever go shopping for an aircraft, see two of them at same price, one with brand new cockpit, the other dirty, and choose the dirty one. Also these cockpits used to be brand new. 737NG Driver (check him out on YT) says the cockpits are not as dirty as most painters paint them. That's just an illusion. I always take a cockpit tour whenever I fly, and 65-70 percent of cockpits I see are usually clean.

You just can't get near the level of immersion on a console that you can with a PC and external hardware.

Hell nawl it wasn't worth $70. not even a dollar, everyone hyped this plane up. Xbox wise.. glitches and more bugs than an average project building. High-end robbery. Sad part, I can't even get my money back because I went over my "Limits" of returns? But yet they selling a bunch of shit that doesn't work properly. Smh anyone on xbox? I HIGHLY recommend you not get this garbage, unless you love the feeling of being robbed

70$ is a fortune. Even compared to fenix 50$. You get all that but still only one variant with one engine option no shark lets nothing. It’s 20$ more but you get more variants each with its own flight and systems modelling 20$ more is not a tough ask tbh.

No problems. Just I hope when your information or your property is stolen and used without your consent do not complain. I hope not to see your name in any news or forums complaining about piracy or theft. Allow thieves to use your work for free keep the same energy on your end.
