Interesting! Whats the thickest wood you have successfully bent using this method?

This was my first time trying. so ~1/4"... I would imagine up to 1/2" or 1 cm is feasable for moderate bends. Probably get too much burning if one were to try much thicker... Probably varies depending on species as well. This was using green (freshly milled) walnut.

@@RandomRustic thanks. Green wood is always best for shaping. How long did you soak it? If you choose to try thicker, would you mind updating here?

@@LitoGeorgeI soaked the first piece for only about a half hour! as you can see, the water was still perfectly clear. by the time we got to the second piece, the water had stained a little black from the wood. I will try thicker and upload here! 🙂👍

@@RandomRustic actually thats pretty useful info to me. I dye my hand made clothing from natural substances. I didn't think of black walnut wood as a medium. Guess what I'll be experimenting with next!!!

@@LitoGeorgeNice! The husks that surround the walnuts make excellent dark brown dye. Also, osage orange sawdust makes a pretty good yellow dye🙂👍

i woudn't go to all that trouble, and taking a chance of getting blasted by the torch wet ot soak the wood, prop it up and put weights on it OUTSIDE in the sun and heat, unless it's cold or winter

That's a great idea! might try it! I love to use fire in my creative process, and can be impatient when i get inspired. *No persons were burned in the making of this video!* 😅
