No question Dodge leaves quite a bit on the table when it comes to the R/T. As stated the flat spot up top does point to a restriction. Normally a 2-1/2" exhaust would support up to about 500 crank horsepower. However, the cat back exhaust on the R/T is really bad. The problem has to do more with the bends than it does exhaust size. The reason being is that OEM exhaust systems aren't mandrel bent. This creates choke points where the bends are made. If going the naturally aspirated route, R/T enthusiasts will go with cam, headers, and exhaust. In addition, they may upgrade the throttle body and go with a 392 intake. The only additional cost is a tune and you're ready to go. Since this is all bolt on stuff, one can save a considerable amount of money by doing the labor rather than taking the car to a shop. If you pay someone to do all this work, you're getting into supercharger money. As for me if I owned and R/T, I would prefer to go with a supercharger. Add wheels and tires, remove the mid muffler, and call it good. There are a few advantages to this. Even if the rest of the car remains stock, the supercharged R/T will actually produce more power than a Scat Pack and it is easier to return to stock when you go to sell it. The disadvantage is the large outlay of money all at once. Having said that, there's nothing wrong going with the naturally aspirated alternative.
Hard to hate on a supercharged setup, they're great. In both scenarios the big thing is making sure the tune is bang on, especially with forced induction. The 12 week wait for a catback right now has me shaking my head though. lol
That's awesome man! So cool to see. I did the 3.09 rear differential and 392 intake manifold with active runners. Putting on long tubes and an exhaust next. Tune that, then get a cam kit installed. Can't wait. Love following your build, thanks for the upload!

With stage 2 comp cam and e85 I made 420 hp with 2017 rt cost like 10k to do everything not worth it couldn't even pass Emissions in IL best to get a 392
I mean, if you're plan is to mod your car, you have to make a plan based on a budget/goal and execute. Paying someone to do a cam for you isn't cheap, it is a lot of work. I did the work myself, so all it cost me was parts. I think I was into it for 2 grand maybe all in? 420 hp sounds about right depending on the dyno, maybe a touch low for E85 (I don't know a ton about it because we don't have it here) but you'll get slightly different numbers dyno to dyno and you're in the ballpark anyway. If you're in a very strict emissions state you'd have to be very careful modding your car, some places make it very difficult to do legally. Like anything it just depends. I couldn't be happier with mine and it was 100% worth it. Especially the first couple times I beat a 392 at the track! Of course if you have budget and it's in the cards to snag a 392, that's great too, they're awesome! Either way you go it's a win.
My last runs corrected to a 12.6 @111 on a 20” wheel. On a drag pack it would be low 12’s. I know the auto guys definitely have the advantage as the auto cars are definitely quicker at the track. I think that has to do with the torque converter getting them out of the hole harder. I never get to see any manual Scats out at the track to compare though.

In a perfect world I'd cam the wife's 5.7, but I just can't bring myself to waste the money when I could just set those funds aside and put a huge down payment down on a super low mile SRT 392.

Good stuff man, have a 04 ram 5.7 with a k&N cone for the air intake and watching this video I put it back to stock. Only other thing is true duals with a flowmaster for the truck. Thinking about longs and cam tho. Awesome information sir
I'm wondering what kind of gas you used on this Dyno run. I have an '12 R/T Classic (Automatic) with he following Mods: K&I CAI, Jet Performance 85mm Throttle Body, Comp Cam 274, Long tubes headers, Catalytic delete, 2.5" mandrel bends and Flowmaster Delta flow 40. My car scored 403 RWhp Using mid-grade gas (91 octane). The reason I did this is because is a Daily driver and I didn't wanted to save some money. Also Specs for my Auto 5.7 calls for mid-grade gas.
My tune is for 94 octane. Pricey but you do pay to play. Plus it’s a really safe tune, no sense pushing it into the danger zone to gain 5hp and risk blowing things up. Could be the combination, I know the 274 is an awfully large cam for the 5.7. These pulls were all done on a dynojet as well, Mustang dynos read a little lower if the shop you went to was using one of them.

I made around 435 sae corrected numbers. I’ve tried a number of intakes. An the only one that felt good in the seat was the 6.4. Stay away from the victor from elderbrock. Unless you go stroker
Ive been wondering about the phase limiter/ lockout myself. When i originally got a dyno tune, i had a cai, 3" catback, headers, cam, and ported the heads. After all that it made about 400hp/torque at 5300 and was flat all the way to 6200. I recently installed the 392 manifold with active srv, and a hellcat throttlbody. It defently seemed to help, but i have not gotten it dynoed again so im not sure if it really did help. Do you think the limiter should be replaced with a lockout?
Wow, nice dyno results! I’m not sure what I can get away with in NY, so may not have the cam option, so far only CAI and Borla cat back. Looking forward to the next video.
Very impressive numbers, congrats. Looks like there was no fan in front of your car. In that heat a fan might have helped your numbers a bit and I assume you no longer have the exhaust resonators. Thanks for the vid.
There was a fan that was ducted to outside air just in front of the driver side headlight. From the angle you can't see it though. The resonators are still in, it's factory exhaust after the high flow cats!

Dyno tunes are always good to nail a tune and really make sure your air/fuel ratio is bang on. Usually it’s really easy for a a tuner to nail a tune first try with a dyno tune and you know your a/f will be safe throughout the driving range.

I've put a lot of thought into it. I kind of wanted to give it a shot, although in talking with my man Bmason he said there's a chance you won't pick up much if your manifold is one that is pretty clean from the factory. I'm still considering it though.
That upper end flat line might very well be your 5.7 intake being that it’s long-runner all the way. It WOULD be very interesting to see if replacing it with the 392 intake (and wired to have functional SRV) clears up your restriction! I’ve got it on my car (still factory cam at the moment, but 392 shorties/cats) and it definitely makes a difference.
@@jasonsedmak3077 all of the before and after dyno runs I see of a 6.4 intake swap though show no real peak gains, it’s all more through the low/middle of the power curve where they add a little more power. Now that’s very usable power don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it correlates to what I’m seeing in the graph. Sounds like you have a badass car sir.
Pretty small really. Comp Cams HRT stage 2 cam kit with a phase lock, Stainless Works long tube headers with high flow cats and a Corsa cold air intake.
At 15% drivetrain loss it puts power at the crank right at 485. A good way to verify that number is somewhat accurate is the fact that between 420-430 is roughly what a 392 will put down to the wheels and they’re rated at 485.
I don’t think I’ll mess with the heads, I’m going to keep the 5.7 intake, mainly I don’t like the idea of having to splice into my wiring harness for the 6.4 intake.

@@justindelgado3928 definitely not. I don’t know why you would want to. New cam, springs, keepers, seats and push rods with the cam kit.
@@TrackPackRT I was just wondering ik if you throw boost you would have to.........im just learning all this as i go lol
@@TrackPackRT i just ordered a 6.4 cam for my 5.7
So do you think it would be better to dyno tune I have a street tune on my car at the moment
Dyno tunes are always good to nail a tune and really make sure your air/fuel ratio is bang on. Usually it’s really easy for a a tuner to nail a tune first try with a dyno tune and you know your a/f will be safe throughout the driving range.
@@TrackPackRT ok thanks I got 5.7 with tuned and ported stock intake stage 2 custom cam hellcat lifters and long tube headers really would like to see how much power I’m putting down as well.
What kind mufflers are u running
@@jermainepattum4416 I still have the factory catback on! Haha
I looked to get dyno tunned place in oakdale, ca i called , i have same hrt stage 2 cam, shorty headers and 6.4 intake manifold, vvt phase lock but they asked me if i have a torq converter i said no its abother $1,5000 did you have to get a torq converter?
I have a manual car, so it’s not something I had to look at. I know comp cams recommended a bigger converter with the stage 2 cam but I know quite a few autos with their stock converters that run just fine.
@@TrackPackRT ok cool thanks good to know yeah mines automatic 2009 RT just gonna keep looking for right dyno hard in cali. I live bay area none that do tune challengers sadly. Said without it i would have idle problems he didnt want to risk it. He disagreed with using a phase lock over phase limiter most of his tuning is off the limiter. I told the guy ur results on dyno but he didnt believe it
@@bradfordmcdermott2063 with a bigger cam it makes sense to lock it out. Donny RT lives in CA and has the same cam as me, I can’t remember which shop he said he used but they were pretty great for him to deal with. Check out his channel and give that shop a shout.
Have you thought about changing or porting your intake manifold
So what is your full mod list?
Pretty small really. Comp Cams HRT stage 2 cam kit with a phase lock, Stainless Works long tube headers with high flow cats and a Corsa cold air intake.
What's the HP/Torque at the engine?
At 15% drivetrain loss it puts power at the crank right at 485. A good way to verify that number is somewhat accurate is the fact that between 420-430 is roughly what a 392 will put down to the wheels and they’re rated at 485.
@@TrackPackRT woah! Just from a cam stage 2? That's insane! Thank you for getting back to me
@@shakerxero2773 just the cam and headers into a stock catback
Any future change with the heads or intake manifold.
I don’t think I’ll mess with the heads, I’m going to keep the 5.7 intake, mainly I don’t like the idea of having to splice into my wiring harness for the 6.4 intake.
@@TrackPackRT I agree. I had a couple of issues with the wiring st first then the msd box went out.
Or, keep your 5.7 intake manifold, but have it ported and clean up the flash
What is your rev limiter set at?
I think it’s right at 6000. That’s what I’m shifting at anyways.
How did u get ur torque to 416 I have 2016 challenger 5.7 (supertrack pak)a custom cammed with tune, long header, leg maker intake, 3.09 gears, 3inch exhaust no Catalytic converter, mds delete it's only at 385 torque but I'm at 430 horsepower (holla back)
Interesting. Strange to put down that much more hp than tq on that setup. I wonder what the specs of that can are?
