    In this video coach Ryan Baily shares some of his quintessential high jump drills for getting athletes comfortable rotating over the bar and building spatial awareness. The jog-in two-footed Back-Over is one of the most effective drills for beginning high jumpers to experience the sensations of clearing a bar. It's especially useful for athletes that have become accustomed to jumping off of 2 feet.
    Adding the "Hip Slap" exercise helps beginners (and even more advanced jumpers)learn proper shoulder position during take off. It will also assist with proper arm and hand positioning.
    The Box Back-Over is a great all-around drill to build and reinforce proper technique when clearing the bar.

    Been trying to get a new jumper onto a single leg take off. He does the two leg and now i see this drill 😂. Officials DQ the lad in competition as well, any links or suggestions. Ty

      A good first step would be to figure out which leg he is most comfortable jumping off of. It is typically the one that is the most coordinated. From there it's a lot of repetitions to build the mind-muscle connection and neuro pathways. Here is a link to a video that goes over the takeoff and rotation over the bar ua-cam.com/video/XEwgyzynR7w/v-deo.html. We'll be posting more videos that cover figuring out which leg to jump off of as well as the value of non-dominant training (practicing jumping off of the other leg).

      Focus on the fundamentals and performing drills correctly to develop solid technique vs bad habits. Most importantly work hard and enjoy the sport and the results will take care of themselves.

    Hey quick question, I did the jogging 2 foot backover and cleared like 6’2. I am still working on technique because I can’t even clear 6’2 off one yet. But judging by that, how high do you think I can go right now? Thanks
    Edit: I just started high jump last week

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  2 роки тому +1

      Difficult to say however given the fact that you can clear over 6' with a backer and you just started means you have great potential and natural ability. With the right training 7' + is a possibility.

    I think the videos are helpful and high quality. I was willing to pay for a whole course but I followed the links, but it was way too expensive in my opinion 90 bucks ... I don't think it should be more than 20 to 30 bucks... (that is what many training vids cost) with the option to get a DVD... or possibly 20 to 30 for a month, or 90 bucks for unlimited access to ALL training videos from all of the sports. If you ever reconsider your pricing model or have special offers, let me know...

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment Kate. You are correct, there are a ton of videos out there that cost less than our courses and if you still prefer to watch content on DVD our courses would not be a good fit for you. Our approach to creating these master classes is to provide a complete experience for the student. This means investing a considerable amount of time and money producing each course. We also believe that coaches should be compensated fairly. The amount of information and work put in by the instructors to deliver ~ 2 full hours of their best content simply wouldn't work if we mass produced courses and charged 20 to 30 bucks. As with most things out there, price is a good indication of value and our goal is to deliver the best possible learning experience.

    It is important to jump sideways and not backwards and rotate backwards in the air. You want to feel like you clear the bar with the left side (right foot jumper) and not with the back. Resist the backwards rotation and bend the left side over the back, the final quarter turn will happen automatically. The guy in the video does it quite well but it is not mentioned in the video and trying to go back over can lead to issues.

    how can you avoid shin splints?

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  5 років тому +1

      Shin splints are tricky and can be caused by many things. Here are a few quick tips:
      1. Make sure you are running properly. Check out this video we did on sprint mechanics (the drills apply to high jump as well) ua-cam.com/video/7HhtuxEu3nU/v-deo.html Landing on your toes or having a hard heel strike can definitely cause shin splints.
      2. Avoid taking too many jumps and/or not giving yourself enough recovery time in between workouts. Increase training volume slowly.
      3. Walking on your heels and doing toe raises during warm-up can help.
      4. If you are doing plyometrics you can perform a lot of them on the grass instead of the track which will reduce the impact stress.
      5. Make sure your running shoes and high jump shoes are in good condition, fit properly and give you the right stability/support.

      Low reps and focus on weight training if you are old enough. More explosive power, running your curve will only help form.

    My high jump pr and jogging 2 foot drill pr are tied at 6’3, jumping off of one foot is just so unnatural to me since I’ve spent all my life jumping off 2 feet

      That is common for a lot of athletes. Work on drills that develop single leg strength. Check out our guide on high jump drills, here is a link to the section on single leg power outperformsports.com/high-jump-workouts/#toc-13338444-2

      Hi TiN - 6' 2" is a solid jump for your age. The best advice I can give without seeing your jump is to be patient, trust that you will continue to grow and get stronger, dedicate the time to training and educating yourself and most important have fun with the sport. Many jumpers don't hit their peak until they are seniors in college or even beyond.

    Its not fair for a short guy of 5 feet to compete with a 6'7 feet or above. Like boxing there should be division (based on height). As tall people have a clear advantage on high jumbs
