    Thank you for these videos. I coach jr high kids and long jump has been one of the hardest events for me to teach because most videos I've found have been for advanced athletes. Looking forward to having these videos to reference next year!

    Well that was really helpful - just what I needed. Masters athlete here, and planning on first heptathlon in three weeks, but couldn't practice long jump yet (injury and practical reasons).
    Great cues to follow, easy and logical explanations on the drills, well done! Thank you!

    Im a new track coach , coaching hurdles and long jump. I was wondering what was the reason they must get sandy? To get used of landing in dirt , ???

    • @JumpersUniversity
      @JumpersUniversity  7 місяців тому +1

      Yep. Most young athletes just don’t want to get sandy. Which is a necessary part of the long jump. But once they are already sandy, then it’s physiologically easier to get sandy again.

    I dont understand why you are doing the arm bicept drill, but then when you do the holding chair drill that has arms in the air the arms are doing a different motion.

      Ya unfortunately that is pretty common. Check back in a few days or so as I’m gonna upload to my website a entire library full of my go to drills with videos on how to set them up, how to do it, why they are beneficial, and when to do them.

    Why the sit drill they measure where you land so if your butt hits the sand that is what they are going to record. Why not a bounce forward drill?

    • @JumpersUniversity
      @JumpersUniversity  6 місяців тому +1

      Good question. So the sit drill has two purposes. The first purpose is to break the human instinct to land on your feet. We assume are wired to want to land and run but our center of mass needs to continue on the parabolic curve that it’s following and if we put her feet down to early then we’re missing out on that extra distance. So the sit drill just gets us comfortable getting Sandy. The second thing it does is it allows us to get our heels to be the first thing to make contact with the sand and collapse in the sand as a decelerate.
      This is an early stage drill . Eventually, you were correct you want to get to a point where your heels make contact first and then you pull your hips to end up making contact with the sand at the same spot that your heels made contact. I will have quite a few more detailed explanations for this, and some of the landing videos will be coming out soon.

      @@JumpersUniversity Thank you so much for that. I did long jump and triple jump in HS and now I am getting ready to coach some of my friends kids during the off season and your video was a nice refresher for me.
