A legendary Glen with Alzheimers. Keith sat close to him, looked him in the eye, sang when he forgot his words and carried him through.Kept his dignity. Such a sweet exchange!
Jimmy Webb wrote that song specifically for Glen. He wanted him to write a song for him about a town and Jimmy wanted to go farther and write about an ordinary blue collar guy and his dreams. He sent it to Glen without finishing it as Glen wanted to hear what he had already. Jimmy wanted to add more to it but Glen happily said it was finished when he added somewhat of a bass solo to the end which was perfect.
There isn't a better way to honor such a great musician than to show him some respect on stage, and this clip shows Glen being his own great self but needing a little help, and shows Keith as the truly generous, truly good man he is. As someone else wrote here, my respect for Mr. Urban has gone up 1000%. RIP Mr. Campbell.

AMAZING story.
Goose bumps. Keith is covering and accompanying. Glenn struggling with a cheap capo and still singing. Then for a small spell, he's a fan, observing Keith, then he ditches the capo and plays the rest. Precious moments.

I lost my Dad in 2010, and when I listen to this song I feel like his listening with me. When I was little Dad took me to Cleveland music to get a keyboard, and Wichita Lineman was playing in the shop. Of course I went right to the electric guitars because they looked cool. Dad said you need an acoustic to play this song, and anyways we are here to get a keyboard. Dad I love you so much.

This was so beautiful, Keith Urban a great musician in his own right, showing Glen this respect just shows what a kind person he is. Respect forever Keith. Glen, love you much, your music lives forever! I pray your doing alright today!
Dear,Glen you did everything God asked you to do with your time here on earth , and a little bit more " Thank you , huge amount of joy " you left for us to enjoy , One of the best line in a song " a load of comprising on the road to my horizon " touches my core " rest in peace my friend " Brian Margolis falls church
I love the interaction between these two! They were really enjoying working off of each other. Look at them smiling and the nuances of each of them throughout this piece. When Keith pulled that fast, fancy little slide move near the beginning, Glen was startled and pulled back, like whoa! Lol! Then later Keith threw his head back in enjoyment and Glen laughed and when Glen did his solo, Keith gave him a raised eyebrow of " Well! You did that well Sir"! Then toward the end when Keith was really into it, you could see from the side Glen's full cheeks and his eyes crinkling, showing he was smiling. The cutest was how Keith did that long final strum leaning toward Glen. Great body language here! I LOVE this video and watch it all the time- it makes me smile! Also...Glen was always impeccably dressed! Pressed shirts and pants with creases. Btw, I think when Glen has accompanying guitar players, I have noticed that he frequently will stop playing while hitting a high note singing but will start playing again and later will kick in wonderfully on his solo, so I am not sure this intermittent stopping of playing can be attributed to his health. I appreciate him more now than when I was younger. So sad to see him go...but just only want to watch him playing and remembering him at his best. I still like the simplicity and pureness of his original versions of his hits the most though-- with that touch of country yet sophisticated strings in the background and the bass guitar plucking which was popular during the 60's. He seems to have affected many people very profoundly in many ways.💞💞
Watching this video gave me more reason to love Keith Urban even more than I already did. Keith is a very talented musician. His guitar playing is awesome however, if any of you take the time to search UA-cam and look at footage of years gone by you'll see what an accomplished guitar player Glen Campbell really was! He's second to none. His picking and timing were amazing. His phrasing was so perfect. After the death of Glen Campbell, I decided to dig deeper and view his playing on UA-cam. I too, play guitar and wanted to see Glen's talents...he's was a master and I do mean master of his craft. There will ever be another Glen Campbell...kudos to Keith for taking the time to share the stage with one of his mentors and give America another chance to witness the great Glen Campbell before he could no longer play. He will be sorely missed.
This was a very special moment for both men. I was hoping Glen would mention the story of their meeting. The other guitarist in their class (and it would have been great to see all three of them together) was Roy Clark. The UA-cam videos of Glen and Roy are just amazing. Thank you, Keith.
Like many people, I spent my younger years with my head down focusing on my career and work. One day, later in life, I had a epiphany, realizing I missed so much. One of them was not seeing Glen Campbell and other legends in music. I committed that I wouldn’t let that happen again. The first artist that I promised myself I’d see was Keith Urban. That year I flew everywhere to make up for lost experiences; Jennifer Nettles, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Seager, One Republic, Kenny Loggins, Boston, Joe Bonnamossa and more. I felt the exact same way as I did while watching this video.
Glen being a session player for Frank Sinatra and many of the Huge stars of yesteryear before his singing carreer began.. How we miss this gentlemen of guitar.. who no longer can even talk, but Glen you left Keith and all of us fans with the sweetest memories of pure country music.. god bless you
Can't talk any more? He's deteriorated that far already? Wow....that's a real shame....he was a guitar guru, helluva songwriter and singer, and Alzheimer's can kiss my ass for takin' Mr. Campbell from all of us....
Branon Fontaine FYI, many of his top hits were written by others. Yes, sadly, according to Wikipedia: "In April 2014, news reports indicated the 78-year-old Campbell had become a patient at an Alzheimer's long-term care and treatment facility. On March 10, 2015, NBC News reported that Campbell could no longer speak for himself and that two of his children had sought legal action against Campbell's wife Kim, with the assertion that she had "secluded" the singer and prevented them from "participating" in the 78-year-old's medical care."
***** There is no indication of that. They just want to "participate" in his medical care. By that, I think that she might be preventing them from seeing him and/or having knowledge of what is going on with their own father. I guess there will be a news story on this soon. Hopefully Glen had a will, written well before he got Alzheimers, that included all his kids, not just his current wife.
***** What's the name of the video and where do they say they are after his money? I saw a story of Debbie giving an interview about Glen on Inside Edition.
***** Thanks for that update. It's sad enough on the entire family to watch Glen go through this. Why make it even worse to exclude them? I don't understand why Kim would do such a thing. I did see a video where Debbie wanted to transfer him to Arkansas (I think), and put him in a house with full time caregiver, so he could be closer to the majority of his kids, which I think was very selfish. He is in Nashville, where Kim is with her kids. They need to just bite the bullet and visit him in Nashville, or move there. That was three or four months ago though, and Glen has now been moved to Hospice.
That guitar solo by Glen Cambell after he spent most of the song tuning and placing the K-Po just about sent KU in the stratosphere. Talk about inspiring........
Words did not need to be spoken in this video, it's a feeling of mutual respect for fellow musicians playing music together, pure and simple. Just enjoy the moment in time people . :)
My Dad, and so am I by default, is a HUGE Merle Haggard fan...the greatest concert he said he's ever attended was a Haggard show at the now gone Circle Star Arena in San Carlos, Calif. What made this concert the best was Glen Campbell, who wasn't scheduled to perform but was in San Francisco, but he opened for and performed with Hag for over two hours....that must've been just incredible....
I used to listen to Glen Campbell with my father driving with him his little girl through teenager in his '64 Volkswagen bug. He loved Glen Campbell and so do I. I lost him 4 years ago and this song comes on. I feel like I was sitting right next to him in the bug. Thank you Glen Campbell and thank you Dad for everything. I miss you both❤
Talk about out a couple of guys having a good time. Glen has certainly been one of the people that has brought me a little happyness in my life. thanks Glen and Keith.
I was lucky to meet Glen at a gala many years ago. He was a gentleman and very courteous. I hated to leave. I will never forget our conversation and a goodbye kiss.
As a guitar player... What I see is Glen Struggle with the capo with the key, with the chord progression.. BUT he kept searching ... and when he found his time to slid into the lead run.... HE was spot on... This is a true musician.. a great man , and a person so many should always thank for the gifts he gave. He is and always be one of my inspirations!
+Vernon Allen Right you are as I kept thinking just take the capo off and when he did and started his lead it was simply amazing as all of Glen's playing has been! Glen Campbell's guitar playing is the BEST ALWAYS!!!! My MOM passed away from ALZEIMER"S this summer so I feel so much for he and his family!
+Vernon Allen Just to set the record straight on this... They are playing this in the key of F, which is the original key that Campbell always plays it in. Why he couldn't figure out where to put the capo is a mystery. Maybe that guitar he's using was set on an alternate tuning and just handed to him as he walked out.
+Lori Hill You watched a different video than I did apparently. Keith did not start in the wrong key, he accidentally modulated to a higher key going back to a verse rather than the chorus, and immediately accommodated Glen. Get your eyes and ears checked.
+Lori Hill LOL! Where "higher key" is the key of F... the same key as the studio version and the same key that Campbell has played this song in his whole life. He's using a capo, but that has nothing to do with it. It's still in the key of F.
+cowsongs . I agree with you. However, having watched the progression of Mr. Campbells disease through his documentary "I'll Be Me", and other video's on UA-cam over the past 15 year, this moment onstage is a clear indication of the beginning of Glen's disease - now appearing during an onstage performance that wasn't well rehearsed. Normally, they wouldn't need to rehearse it much, but obviously things were not right with Glen at the time. And as awkward as it was to the musician's watching, and maybe some of the audience, Keith and Glen still had a magic moment, and isn't that what counts? Best wishes, Keywiz.
If you ever needed proof that music communicates and another level....this is it. Watch this guy honouring a hero and allowing us to share the moment. THANK YOU.
My son also a musiCIAn...introduced me to the music of Keith Urban...before he really really became famoUS...wow...love this dUEt...Nobody does IT better...RIP Glenn Campbell thanks for the musIC!
Glen , Just want you to know how much you are loved by your fans and how much your music means to us. I grew up listening to you with my mom and dad. God bless you.
This is an older performance I know but still, thanks for the great memories Glenn as you will be missed by many. I wasn't really a Keith Urban fan before as I had little exposure to his music but I sure am now! Kudos to you Keith for having Glenn perform with you knowing, I'm sure, about his unfortunate condition and the high possibility for mistakes (which obviously happened). That shows what kind of man you truly are! Respect!!!
Never cared much for Keith Urban before watching this. I'm a huge Keith Urban fan now. I get it. When Keith says "the original". I get it now. I've always noticed that Urban is a talented guitarist. It's clear that he's been heavily influenced by Glen and I've never put that together. Respect to KU! Glen's combination of vocal chords and masterful guitar skills are what set him apart from anyone in history, including the present. Please go listen to the younger Campbells' versions of "it's only make believe"... his voice was angelic; the best pure vocalist (male) in country music history. He was my favorite when I was a child because he was a fellow Arkansan and because of Rhinestone Cowboy. I drove by the grand palace a thousand times and never stopped in for a show. ...breaks my heart now that I've learned to really appreciate him as an artist. Sounds silly but so thankful for UA-cam and for those who share these special moments so that we all can cherish and reminisce. ...So glad I'm not one of those who only sees the Alzheimer's and/or the imperfections. The performance was perfect if you could see it from my eyes.
its still too soon... can't help but cry... I am so grateful for all the memories this brings to me... Glen you don't have to do it perfect... we love and miss you...

Glen Campbell is one of the most talented entertainers of all time, period.
I absolutely 💯 agree 👍
Thank You, Keith! You took care of our wonderful Glenn and gave us a gift that will last forever.
Keith was so gracious. I love Glen Campbell!
Keith you are the most selfless an respectful person in the business, others would be wise to be as humble. Thanks for the great memories.
Keith Urban is a class act and Glen Campbell was an amazing musician. Great video.
The look on Keith's face is priceless. That, my friends, is pure and utter joy!! RIP, Glen!!
That guitar solo by Glen Cambell after he spent most of the song tuning and placing the K-Po just about sent KU in the stratosphere. Talk about inspiring........
I noticed that, too, I adore Keith Urban
My very favorite song by Glen Campbell. I am so happy that Keith sang and played with him and even happier that it was recorded for our memories!
Mine too!!!
RIP GLENN
Yes great song
RIP GLEN
Words did not need to be spoken in this video, it's a feeling of mutual respect for fellow musicians playing music together, pure and simple. Just enjoy the moment in time people . :)
R.I.P Glen Campbell, early back Keith used to talk how he had one vinyl album and would play Glen over and over in family garage.
This is one of coolest moments between musical artists I have ever seen! 💕
They are in awe of each other. How gorgeous is Keith.
I love this video It’s an American classic captured for all time.
What a class act Keith Urban is. Great song. Glen Campbell was a legend. What a great pairing.
Who cares.. It is heart breaking to hear the last of Glen Campbell's performances. A true master and one that can never be replaced..Love you Glen!
RIP Glenn Campbell, you did good. xx Fly high.
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
I used to listen to Glen Campbell with my father driving with him his little girl through teenager in his '64 Volkswagen bug. He loved Glen Campbell and so do I. I lost him 4 years ago and this song comes on. I feel like I was sitting right next to him in the bug. Thank you Glen Campbell and thank you Dad for everything. I miss you both❤
God bless you, Keith, for recognizing the spark in this man, Glen Campbell.
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
Keith Urban: Thank You so much for what you did there, God Bless You
Two of the classiest acts in country. Absolutely beautiful!
Keith Urban is an amazing talent and a wonderful human being...❤
So beautiful and Keith Urban seems like a class act to be so respectful of the great Glen!!
Hello Teresa how are you doing, Happy new year 🎉🎉❣️
Keith lives the music and is showing homage to an icon! Respect at it most humble.
A sad day for all Guitar lovers. We lost a Guitar Legend today, for sure. My sincere condolences to the Campbell Family.
Who are the 475 idiots that gave this amazing performance a thumbs down? :(
Idiots
too much heavy metal between their ears - maybe, they need more lead in there ;-)
Keith showed his deepest admiration for one of his mentors. Wow.
What a legendary star,a beautiful voice and boy, what a guitarist, may he rest in peace evermore 💚
Thank you for sharing this! Shows how music is there to support us.🎶💃💕
Class act till the end and how cool was Kieth Urban you can clearly see the admiration he has for Glen such a great clip
Glen , Just want you to know how much you are loved by your fans and how much your music means to us. I grew up listening to you with my mom and dad. God bless you.
Love Glen Campbell and Keith Urban is Awesome❤
This is an older performance I know but still, thanks for the great memories Glenn as you will be missed by many. I wasn't really a Keith Urban fan before as I had little exposure to his music but I sure am now! Kudos to you Keith for having Glenn perform with you knowing, I'm sure, about his unfortunate condition and the high possibility for mistakes (which obviously happened). That shows what kind of man you truly are! Respect!!!
Glen Campbell is one of the greats that I wished I could have had the chance to see. What a legend!
Sorry you didn't.....I got lucky and saw on of his last concerts, with his kids playing with him.
He was incredible ❤️
Respect Keith
Totally ❤️
I saw a Glen video where he said he met a very young Keith at a concert way back in mid 70's & Keith told Glen he wanted to play guitar just like him
@@tram84mvp 🎸🎸❤
So much respect and admiration for Keith and his Beautiful wife Nicole
Absolutely the most amazing Talented Couple.
Indeed, the world has lost a National Treasure.
THANK YOU for chosing to share your incredible talent with all of us!!
This tribute says so much about both Glen Campbell and Keith Urban. Absolutely a class act. Unforgettable.
The performance was perfect if you could see it from my eyes.
nukeboy72 so well said
its still too soon... can't help but cry... I am so grateful for all the memories this brings to me... Glen you don't have to do it perfect... we love and miss you...
