- Today we are exploring an abandoned Lutheran church in Chicago, Illinois. The church shut down in 2012, then in 2015 the City of Chicago sued the church owners for failure to keep the property secured and declared the church hazardous to the public.

If people are going to abandon places at least let an architectural and antique salvagers come in and pay to reuse them or sell them. If the owner isn’t going to. So sad to see all these places with so much beauty get ruined by nature.

I think its beauitful in a way
I was here recently and the current owner is pretty serious about the future of this building. There were workers sealing the broken windows with cinder blocks, and it looked like possible renovations were being done. The other church in the same area of Chicago, which is German Catholic, is in much worse condition as far as decay. However, the stained glass is in better condition and it is so ornate and beautiful.
Stunning stained glass, I just wish you would’ve gotten a closer view of them so that us viewers can see the details.

Beautiful church so sad people are destroying it, the stain glass and woodwork is gorgeous and I don't know why the city doesn't salvage what's left of the windows, doors and woodwork.
The stained-glass panels are absolutely stunning. What a shame they're going to waste. At least you got to see them in their full beauty
I agree that the stained glass is stunning. I just wish he would’ve gotten up close shots of the stained glass so that we the viewer can admire its beauty up close.
That’s crazy how that whole front panel of the church glass was punched out. Never seen that.

Those METAL CROSSES! They are beautiful, and how sad that there they sit! it would be really hard for me to go into a place like this, and not want to recover some of these items, if even just to give them away…

From my lens, this abandoned, condemned, old church represents the death of America of old. America today is far different than what it was at the height of this church’s service.

There are some beautiful components to this church. Its too bad they couldnt be salvaged and reused. We are so wasteful in this country.

If the windows had not been vandalized the interior of the churc would still be pristine. However once you start letting in cold in the winter, heat in the summer, rain, snow, wind etc then you get the paint peeling off the walls and the chipped plaster all over the floor.

Why do they abandon these churches and other buildings and no one can come in and possibly buy or sell articles from these buildings
Why was this place deemed hazardous? Mold? Asbestos? Lead? And do you all ever worry about fumes in that case?
My guess would be asbestos/the crumbling walls

There was this one house that was a junkie house and one day it was raided bc someone explored it snd called the cops, it was in Elgin IL

How do you just walk away? Leave a huge church like that?
Unfortunately its happening all over the place. Declining attendance in recent years, this is the result. More to follow .... sadly.

Congregation left community due to criminality in area. Once gone, slowly no one attends church n able to support financially. Democrats leadership ruins.
