My Father used to talk about the way the past sounded, steam train whistles, church bells, old music, the engines on old cars passing, This place reminded me of that. Wonder how far the bells carried in the old days.... Thanks for the look inside. Peace..
I live in a tiny upstate NY town pop. 1,300. I am treas./ trustee of a Methodist church built in 1876.....right now we have about 5 people at Sunday Service and collection of about 50.00 a week I cant make payroll or keep up with repairs, we do have some "old money" without that we would close. Sad times in this country. Excellent video.........enjoy your channel
Sad there's no community using this historical church anymore. It was quite pretty. Seems in a very remote area but at one time there had to be many people in that area. The church is large. Enjoyed.
I love old churches. The Balcony didn't look like it was for seating but for a choir. When I was a child it was a thrill to get to ring the bell on Sundays. Thank you so much for this journey
Josh B this is in a remote area of the Midwest, most likely Minnesota. I grew up in a small farming community in Minnesota. Family farms are gone, huge corporate farms own the land now. The families who cared for the land and built the churches and communities are long gone and their descendants moved to the cities to find jobs. All the small Midwestern farm communities are dying. It's a sad reality.
Great video. I was getting nervous when you were pulling that bell rope, I was imagining it crashing down through the floor. And I really liked the old pics of the place at the beginning of the vid, when the church was in its prime. The people in those old photos are probably still there to this day and forever, buried behind the church. 50 years from now probably nothing will be left but an overgrown abandoned cemetery.
Love my knotty pine paneling! This church is bigger than the one I went to until I was around 9 or 10 years old. The church closed up b/c a pastor couldn’t be found after our 83 year old pastor had to retire due to illness. I loved that church and this one brings back so many feelings! Our church had no choir loft, but there was a basement for Sunday School. Thank you for the tour!
We have an old church in this town that they've kept the same as it was and they had you hear the bells everyday ring at certain times and it's absolutely beautiful to hear
That is a very old (and beautiful) church building that is eventually going to fall into ruin. By the way, those church bells are VERY heavy. I used to watch the older altar boys as the rang one of those bells in our church. It usually took at least two of the bigger 8th grade boys to literally hang on the rope to get it to move using their body weight. It was funny watching them hanging on the rope as it lifted them a foot or so off the ground as the bell rung. Thanks much for the tour.
The dog is like “ I’m outta here”! The church I attend was built in 1890. My church looks a lot like this one. I’m sure we’ve sang a lot of the same hymns that were sung in this shuttered church. I’ve seen black and white photos of the past members, practically all deceased. We only have 18 a service and 90% of the people are over 70 yrs old! I’ll be sad when the church will have to shut down but no young people go to church anymore. Either they don’t believe or have other interests and priorities.
As a Lutheran I have to say 'nice job', and thanks for taking your video to help preserve 'preserve' that place. I sometimes take drone shots for real estate purposes. I'd sure like to capture this church on aerial video. I agree with other comment posters regarding keeping that place a secret to avoid vandalism.
The ebb and flow of life and community are represented by this church and the photos-once a group of people came together to build this lovely house of worship and meeting-now there is no one who will even sweep the building, let alone keep up with necessary repairs. Sad and perhaps inevitable in a lot of areas. I doubt the people buried in the churchyard ever thought the congregation would dwindle and disappear like that. Thank you, as always, for posting a great video. Fingers crossed for dismissal of the trespassing charge. I know there are many, many viewers who are thinking about and rooting for you.
I never remember attending the old church that set behind my mother's newer church. However, my siblings and I often played in there. We were in need of a home and a friend of my father's bought the old church and my father tore it down. He built a house out of the salvage parts and it was really neat to lay in the bed and look at the old tin ceiling and our new home. The home is still standing and holding up well, but I suppose the church would have fallen in many years ago.
I believe that the inscription is Norwegian (also because it's Lutheran, prob in MN,and all those blonde heads in the photo at the opening of the video) 🤔Swedish is similar, but I still think it's Norwegian! BTW the inscription is: "Salig ere de som here Guds Ord og bevare det"
Cyndie commenting: Great view of an old building. 1891 construction, imagine the skills it took to build this structure without modern tools! The original doors are beautiful; the renovations with tiles & paneling not so much; at the time of the work those materials were in vogue. I'd appreciate looking inside hymn books for copyright date & ISBN (10-digit ISBN began in1970 and is the International Standard Book Number). For music buffs, old hymn books can be a treasure. Thanks for your exploring, but I ask you take human along with you. The furbaby is beautiful, but I doubt she can dial a cell phone...
Man, this breaks my heart. The sanctuary itself still appears to be in pretty good shape, but not the rest of it ... I wonder how long it's been abandoned?
That was a really nice church. Looks like it was well taken care of in its day. I cannot believe it had such fancy designs, like the balcony etc.. your dog enjoyed it too, looked like you were letting him guide you!
BEAUTIFUL OLD CHURCH THEY BUILT THEM TO STAY BACK THEN REALLY PRETTY STAINED GLASS WINDOWS THEY SHOULD BE RESTORING THIS HISTORICAL OLD CHURCH INSTEAD OF LETTING IT FALL APART LILY HAS ALOT OF FUN ON THESE TRIPS WITH YOU MAKE SURE SHE DOESN'T SNIFF ANYTHING THAT COULD GET HER SICK ALWAYS GOOD TO WIPE HER PAWS TOO THANKS FOR SHARING :-)
that balcony was the choir Loft = the choir sings in the back of the church in Lutheran Churches . it looks like there was some last Bible class there the way the chairs are arranged and Hymnals on the chairs and a screen for video That beautiful carved woodwork - so sad it' is not used. I bet there is original wood under those 1950s or 60s tiles thank you for the tour.
Beautiful church. The first photo shown of it is nearly identical to Big Pembina Lutheran Church which is near Langdon, ND. The original steeple was struck by lightning when i was in elementary school, but was rebuilt. Unfortunately the church burned down in January of 2014, but there is a photo on my instagram (same username) of the church as it stood in 2013. Thank you for sharing this with us!
I rang a exactly bell like that. It takes awhile to turn . and then BONG the whole room shakes . I was ten years old and the janitor at our school let me turn the wheel …it was unreal how loud it was, standing next to it
It's kind of sad when you see that the town doesn't want to make sure that this old church is restored just for the so children can grow up and go see these old places it's amazing I went to Montana me and my husband and daughter we had an RV and we took off and we had a 32 ft 5th wheel and we had a big truck that we pulled it and we went to Montana and there's some beautiful towns that they've kept completely the same that they were back in the day it's just absolutely amazing we had some of our best times they're our daughter got to pan for you can get a lot of rock Stones like them sapphires rubies there's another Stone that's right I can't remember the name of it but it's it's but you can get rubies and real sapphires when you're panting and that wasn't an old little town then you go up in the Hat the whole town was still there the whole town it was amazing you walk through it and it's just the same as it was back in the day all the old they have arcade where that you could go in and play all these weird games and that were very old from way back in the 1800s it was just amazing
Yeah that was pretty amazing and look at the outside of it compared to the inside there was a lot that had water damage for that can easily be fixed I just think it's good to keep historical things in our towns to my whole town you can read the history if you want to know the name of it it's Winfield Kansas it's all still got the old buildings all the way down Main and the old Banks from way back in the 1880s it's a pretty amazing place and that's why I told you about the church and those bells when they ring them every day or so beautiful in this is an old church from the 18 way back in the 1800 now I'm not exactly sure how I mean we still have people in front of their old houses that have where they hook their horses up to they're pretty amazing to see I'm I'm just so fascinated by all this I'm enjoying your show and thank you for letting me watch
These abandoned buildings are a part of history. They should be restored to like new again. We need to preserve history not let it crumble into the dust of the earth. Fan or exploring abandoned places Robert Gildea
It would be nice if someone could clean up a bit. Throw on some cheap asphalt roll roofing on it along with some exterior paint. It's worth saving and trying to even rent out.
Awwwwww lily loves exploring like daddy hehehe. Wow that church was still so intact inside, the wood in places was still awesome, nice to see the church was humble in their window designs, nothing too dramatic, but it was sad that even at its height they couldn't afford one visually nice stained class just for the front or something, shame about the water damage in places, they need to fix It up now while its still rather small before the whole building goes. Nice they upkeep the cemetery and grounds. Wish you'd filmed there too. Are you doing much filming these days? Haven't seen too many recent new vids, has it just been too snowy? Did they hold functions in the basement? Thats weird
Lots of snow, sub-zero temperatures and this whole legal deal that's going on. Not very conducive to exploring haha 😝 But dont worry...I will return....
Yeah, a bit. Having to cancel the trip really stinks. But I have a good feeling about this year. I also have some good video ideas. A few new things that I want to try.
Well I sure look forward to watching them, after looking at other explorers like yourself, and subscribing to their channels too, in the end I come back to your channel more than others as it's more real, down homey and doesn't have all that annoying flash and acting up for the camera, like with some of the younger ones
I looked up the name of this church, and found it on Google Earth. I cannot tell what happened, but the church is gone. My guess is that it caught fire, but the tire tracks around the church suggest that it was torn down.

@5:06 "Blessed are those who hear the word of God by preserving it"
Yes! Why is it in swedish? I'm sitting here in Sweden and thinking "What!!!"
Now I understand 😀 it is in Minnesota 😇
I like the phrase
It’s Danish, and it translates to “Blessed are they who bring the word of God and keep the oath”
Luke 11:28
The language on the altar is Danish. It says: "Blessed are they that hear God's Word and hold onto it".
Ginny Miller ThankYou for interpreting!

Oh that is awful russ, over a thousand people and only five come to church? Awwwww sad times indeed.

You got to ring the bell? AWESOME, I never did
Abandoned churches always make me sad. This is still a pretty little church.

your dog is a good explorer! He needs a mask to protect his nose! What a shame this old place is just rotting away! She is not loud to us!
Lilly is a pleasure to have in your videos, she's not too loud, she's going first up the stairs too, that was so cute
Great big church! The bell must be a treasure. Lily eating grass and enjoying the day.

was a cool church. All the chairs in a circle really stuck out to me. I thought of like a "AA" meeting for alcoholics hah
That's what I was thinking!
Or for bible study
@@lifeofallen4442 yes, that didnt even cross my mind.
@@lifeofallen4442 that could be two options
Excatly what I was thinking too...AA usual uses churches too meet up

Hey dude , what a awesome place !! loved those arched windows , very cool.
Beautiful sky! Nice old church hello to you and Lily!
Great video! Really appreciate the historical info/pictures. Beautiful wood work.
So adorable watching Lily lead the way. 🐶🐕❣
I believe the balcony was for the choir, not general seating.

In Norwegian "Salig ere de, som hore guds ord, og bevare det." ` Blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it.

Every time I watch your videos it makes me want to work on my house.

The church has left the building, only the church house and memories remain.

I hope someone preserves that altar before it gets water damage.
It would be nice if someone could clean up a bit. Throw on some cheap asphalt roll roofing on it along with some exterior paint. It's worth saving and trying to even rent out.
Awesome video. how cool would have that been if you could have gotten the bell to ring!
They may have taken the clapper out so as not to ring. It would be a huge task to remove a bell that large from the bellfry.
another great video :) thumbs up !
👍

Beautiful
Love your videos
Great video!!!! The text on the altar is Dutch....was there a dutch community over there??
This would make an awesome house if it was fixed up
oh the bell! wow wonder what they gonna do with it?
Was beautiful at one time
Your dog's ahead of you I'm sorry I'm just I'm just heading I'm fascinated with the dog with you I love animals too
Neat old church
Or as they say that in Minnesota, "Luteran" Church.
I looked up the name of this church, and found it on Google Earth. I cannot tell what happened, but the church is gone. My guess is that it caught fire, but the tire tracks around the church suggest that it was torn down.
It's too bad the owner(s) doesn't upkeep this church.
I wonder when it was last used? It was probably a farming community using it since it looks to be put in the middle of nowhere
3:58 voice says “suffer”
“Lily you’re so dang loud” LOL
Balcony for standing choir
Imagine what you could find with a metal detector.
My Lilly is loud too. Lol
Mine is too! In fact she's very loud!!🐕
The thing that's disturbing about these churches is they still have an actual cemetery.
Ny Minnesota Scandinavian Stepfather would have said "Lut'eran" chruch.
Is this in Minnesota?
Yes it is
Very cool. What a waste though.
I wouldn't really let my dog just walk barefoot around a place like this but it seems as if they are giving you a tour.
ty sir ^_^
One day all churches will be abandoned like this old church. The sanctuary is in good condition. What needs to be done is to replace the roof.
Your dog is cute checking everything out get him out of there there's mold in there and you too take your shots and get out
I would be worried about the pup getting glass, nails or splinters in her paws!
At 1:15 there is something walking across ur film. Looks like 2 legs to me . .strange
It is light refraction off the camera lens because he is pointing it into the sun. Nothing strange.
12:08 your stomach or a growl?
wall paneling in a church is sinful. I wonder where all the pews went.
Shame they can't recover the bell and reuse it in another church.

Dogs love to Roll in Poop, especially Country Dogs.
interesting
looks like a bible group is still using it. I would love to know the location and put together a group of people to restore it it is history of the past that should be remembered for years to come
It's too moldy. It stinks. So I think another explorer set the chairs up like that.
I know where that one is.
Creepy
