I just had my first piece of (canned) jackfruit and it’s amazing. It tastes like a mango/pineapple/lychee/banana all in one. It’s what you would imagine “tutti-frutti” to taste like, but it’s a real fruit.
We just moved into a new house here in Florida and have a jackfruit tree in the yard with plenty of them growing. I can't wait to see what they taste like! Tfs
+Raihanas Cuisines OMG we've gotten about 15 of them. Several actually fell off while we we away. The people who lived here before we did said that this is the best harvest they've seen from this tree. We are at the end of the season now and have about 5 left waiting to ripen on the tree. I have several frozen bags of them. We use them in smoothies. 😊.
And if you eat too much your sweat and pee will end up smelling like jackfruit, i know because I grew up eating this fruit and we have a backyard tree of it
I've had fresh jackfruit from the grocery store when I decided to buy it on a whim. They were sold in thin disks by the pound so much cheaper that way. I loved it! To me it tastes a bit like if you combined a banana and a pineapple but without the acidity of the pineapple. I am addicted to them and could eat them all day. However, my roommate hated it (more for me). I could just eat them all day and they are pretty high in protein for being a fruit which is one of the reasons why it is often used as a mock-meat, beside the fact that it looks like shredded chicken.
thanks so much for telling us what color it should be. I have tried this fruit for the first time last week and love it. I have introduced it to several friends and family. I was not sure about the color and am so glad you have told us this. I will use the seeds. I am excited that almost the entire food product is edible and nutritious. thank you
I bought a Jackfruit at the local Mexican food market. I used this and many other fruits and vegetables for shooting targets. I was curious just what this weird fruit was, and a webpage talked about how sweet it was. It was such a weird thing to shoot, but I had determined that I would at least taste it after I split it open with a shot. After we shot it open, we then went to get a taste. When we got there we were overwhelmed with how sweet it smelled, the the taste was so surprising! I finally determined what combination of flavors I was tasting, pineapple and honeydew melon. We would not shoot again , we collected up what was left to take it home to eat. Our curiosity led us to try something so foreign to us, but we’re rewarded with a very surprising treat. I will buy it again, but not to shoot.

Thanks Raihanas, good vid. I live on a farm in Thailand and we have a lot of jackfruit trees growing. All we grew from seeds, it's easy, just keep them well watered until they are established. They can also be used as a meat substitute in curries . . . a favourite Thai dish!
I wanted to see what this fruit is *supposed* to look like, after seeing a Twitter post about Whole Foods cutting jackfruit into wedges like a watermelon- rind, core, pits and all. Now I'm going down a rabbit hole of exotic fruits I've never heard of.
I saw this at shoprite and I’m very big on kids trying new fruits and myself. I love it!! It’s delicious. I watched your video to see how to eat it and I’m now addicted to your channel! Thank you!!
Thank you for your quick and to the point demo on cutting and eating a jack fruit. I bought a piece of one, which was fortunately ripe and did not have the sticky sap, so when you didn't oil your knife, I went for it. Thank you! It was great, and I will buy another cut piece.
Oh, yum! I just bought one to see if it was indeed good. This fruit is so much more better than I expected! Its delicious!!! The after taste is also pleasant..! I recommend this Jack Fruit to everyone!
I just bought a can of jackfruit, and your video right now is the first time that I saw anyone show jackfruit and talk about it. So, THANK YOU! I look forward to trying jackfruit now.
A coworker gave me some at lunch one day. No one knew what it was called, but it was SO delicious! I made it a point to find out what it was, and can't wait to get some of my own! I know my daughter and granddaughter will love them too! Thank you!
My bad guys- it really tastes something like juicy fruit gum! 😆😋😊 It was refreshing, we had one that was more ripe, so more sweet flavor than for meat, but it was DELICIOUS! perfect for a smoothie. I. However allergic to latex, so I must share that there was a slight challenge with that!
Omg this is the first time I'm trying this... and its a smooth flavor that doesn't over powers the mouth. I love this. Thank you for showing me how to eat this. Thank you.

We live in Maui and our friend just gave is a 15 pounder. While my husband has had it many times growing up here I never have and needed to know how to cut it since he has Covid at this time and doesn’t want to contaminate it. Your video was very helpful.
Great introduction to a food that I have never been exposed to, being from Oklahoma. I've heard that this can be used as a meat substitute. So I've been looking into trying it. Bought some in a can yesterday at the local Asian market/grocery store. The "in syrup" annoys me, since I don't do sugar, but I figure I can rinse it off and just deal with the sugar content of the fruit. In any case, thanks for the rundown on the subject. Great presentation and detail on the breakdown and all the parts.
To make vegan meat with it you do not want to use the one in syrup. That one is the ripe, sweet jackfruit and is meant to be enjoyed right from the can as a sweet treat. You want to use the young jackfruit in brine. They are often on the shelf right next to eachother. Hope that helps 👍
Raihana thank for this video-12/17/22 still going strong. Jackfruit (fresh produce section) was on sale at my Albertson's grocery store, it looked so bizarre (which is another way of saying unknown\different). You really come across as credibly enjoying this and authentically excited to share your experience! I loved your comprehensively formatted video (i.e., showing how to choose a ripe one, cut it, what to discard, alternative use of seeds (will try boiling) and the canned choice (which I'm happy to see Trader Joe's and Whole Foods say they have it). The Comments also, make me so excited to experience this. I am empowered/encourage to adventurously try it both ways (fresh and canned)! There is so much around us, available in this world, and we don't even know it (65 years of life and still amazed).
I am so glad that you are encouraged to try these fruits, i grew up with these fruits, would love to hear back from you as far as your experience, really hoping you enjoying as much as we do 🤗

Nice video. I didn't know it comes in a can. We eat Jackfruit Crabless Crabcakes which we love. I season them with Old Bay Seasoning and a little Smart Balance and bake or broil. Then top with Vegenaise Tartar Sauce. I plan to buy a bag of frozen Jackfruit that I saw at MOMS Organic Market, to use in place of pork, to make some pulled pork. I heard it's best to use when it's ripened only a little for pulled pork, crabcakes, and other types of meat substitutes. Since I love eating fresh fruit, I will have to try it uncooked. Thank you for your informative video. God Bless!
I had never had jackfruit but yesterday I purchased it and then I looked up some videos to day and I ran across yours. I like your video Because it was very thorough. Thank you so much.

Jennifer Hernandez you can make curries of the the raw one and it tastes like meat and the ripe one is so sweet and fragrant.Try the Fresh ones.We have 3 jackfruit trees and I can't wait for summer! :)
Thank you for the information. Have you ever used the fruit as a meat substitute? I saw it on TheDoctors tv show and they were using it as a replacement for many different meat dishes.
I stumbled across your video as I was searching for images and uses of jackfruit. I've never eaten Jack fruit, but I saw a recipe for a "meatless" BBQ sandwich that used Jack fruit instead of pulled pork, beef, chicken, etc. Thank you for showing us a great option.
someone had posted about serving this as bbq they could not tell the difference it tasted just like bbq pork. Is this right this would be awesome if so
Had it for the first time in Uganda in 2009 and didn't realize until I saw a food ad last week that it was available in the U S. I am definitely going to purchase one because I remember just how good it was. I received a container already cut up as a going-a-way gift and munched on it from Kampala to the airport in Entebbe.
Here in india we cook the raw jackfruit as a vegetable . I suggest people should try it once it really tastes amazing as a vegetable . But I have never tried it as a fruit I guess I'll try this sometime
Well I'm not a good cook but my mom use to boil it first in a pressure cooker because when you cook it raw its really hard to chew and then after boiling she makes the vegetable
I find it tastes a bit like pineapple and mango, with a very different texture and slightly pungent yet sweet aroma. Tried it for this first time this summer.
Great video!! I love to learn about other cultures and their cooking! I’m learning about jack fruit, because my daughters are vegan and the fruit can be cooked like you would cook chicken or beef because of the texture! Thank u for the video!
I just got an 8lb one from an unattended fruit stand on Hawaii island for $7 yesterday. I think I will cook it in a crockpot with pinto beans, lilikoi(passion fruit), papaya, sweet peppers, bananas/plantains, some juiced oranges, liquid mesquite smoke, and either some special vinegar or some poi for sour flavor. Ulu/breadfruit is a smaller, related fruit that is seedless and just as amazing.
I just started eating jackfruit. And it is delicious. I'm so glad you showed how to cut it, I was just scraping out the pods. Your video was very informative.
What a great helpful video! My wife bought jackfruit for us to try but we had no idea how to eat it. This video helped us a lot. Now having tried jackfruit for the first time, we loved it! Can't wait to get it again! So sweet and mellow, with the texture of mango!
Another type of "jackfruit" is chempedak - it is the much more expensive type of jackfruit but it is far tastier than the jackfruit. It cost about $15/kg.
I purchased my first jack fruit today. I found it was very similar to mild cantaloupe. The individual piece of fruit was about a small kiwi. The fruit was encased by a tendon like cage. Inside of the fruit was a stone about the size if a large cashew. The rind and seed and tendons was 1/2 if weight purchased. Overall, it was a nice snack. Thank you for this informative video.
Monica Smith, it was Meijer. I'm in the thumb but I assume all Meijers are the same? I noticed later that they also have small packets of pre-cut and seasoned jackfruit.
We just bought a wedge of jackfruit, thank you for the video. I would also like to try durian but I learned that also needs to be a little bit orange in color to be more sweet.
Thank you. I have never had Jack Fruit before, and have just started hearing about this fruit over the last couple of years. Then yesterday I actually saw pieces in the produced department of my grocery store (Calgary Alberta Canada). But was not clear which parts were edible or how to eat it. Your video is excellent and answered all my questions about fresh and canned. I feel like I can try this now with out wasting it. Thank you for sharing!
I am glad you posted a video on the jack fruit. The piece you bought looked dry and withered, the canned ones look fresh. Do you know, unripe jackfruit which we cook and eat with fish curry is a diabetic friendly meal because of the high fibre content? Seeds too. There is a website named jackfruit365.com Tender fruit is used as a vegetable and is also good for diabetics as everything excluding the green skin and the central pith is cooked. And the result is delicious .
Just bought my first quarter of a jackfruit. Came on youtube to see what to do with it. Thank you so much for sharing how. I’m going to try it. I also heard where it can be cooked, like pulled pork with BBQ sauce which when cooked, it’s like meat. Bought it at Thyme Market.
Jeremiah Diaz how ignorant can you be. She was saying how when she was growing up they probably had jackfruit trees in their backyard so they’d eat them fresh. Now she probably has to buy them in cans or from the market. I hope your negativity ruins your life 😁
Technically u r right, that is what she said; yet clearly what she meant was as a kid..etc. My point however is this: It is kind of her to make these videos, and I am so pleased she made a video on Jackfruit so that now I will try it for the first time in my life, but can you tell me what you do for the Human Race ? Other than criticize ? For the waste of space u r ?
I was in my local grocery store when I saw this huge fruit I have never seen before. I asked the produce staff what it was I even took a picture. Ironically we were just in disneyland and ordered what my son thought was BBQ pulled pork sandwich and it said jackfruit! So now I'm dying to buy one. It was over $20 for one. I have been watching videos on it today. I enjoyed yours. Thank you for sharing something special from your home
Need to dip hands and knife in oil because the sticky is very hard to get off...it's like sap almost that bad. Jackfruit is not that sweet. Nothing like an orange or grapes. It's great to use as a meat substitute!! Flavor it up like meat and it's a great stringy meat.
I stated this fruit today for the first time. Looking up videos on how to eat it...came across your video. I like the state but didn't know what it's safe to eat. Thank you!
My Husband and i just found out about this friut and we are wanting to try it because we heard about the benefits of jackfriut we both have health problems that it can help with thank you for sharing
just hearing you reminisce of your childhood and eating jackfruit reminds me of my own . I'm from Trinidad and of East Indian descent.here we call it "cohwa".As children we used to burst open the ripe fruit and scoop out with our fingers. Oh the good ole days!
ThankU for this video on JackFruit! Today I bought a piece it was $12 lb in NYC ! I have been watching Ras Kitchen on UA-cam; it is a cooking show based in Jamaica... It is amazing to see so many Fruits and Vegetables that I may have seen but never tried! I also found BreadFruit and prepared it!
I have never had a jackfruit, until today. A new grocery store opened and out of curiosity I bought a slice of jackfruit. It has been in my fridge for almost 2 weeks, but smells great, had no slime, and was easy to clean following your tutorial, which was very helpful. I am going to try to cook the few seeds I have and may try putting it in salad, in popcicles, or I may try to put in in the pressure cooker and can it. Hmmmmm....very yummy! Mine was slightly rubber, and very fibrous, but still very tasty. Looking forward to more!

Are there T&T supermarkets in your town?
They are usually found in the southern United States as it's a tropical fruit it can be found at an Asian market perhaps
Most Asian stores have em. I get them regularly in Manitoba
They're a tropical fruit so probably not at all something you'd see in Canada.

+Maurice buckner
Yay!!! So glad you liked it, it's my favorite fruit as well!

stcky core : glue product & animal traps. Jai Hind 🇮🇳
We just saw a jackfruit for the first time and wondered how to use it. Thank you for your explanation.
thank you, I've seen them at my grocery store but didn't know what they were but curious
Jennifer Hernandez you can make curries of the the raw one and it tastes like meat and the ripe one is so sweet and fragrant.Try the Fresh ones.We have 3 jackfruit trees and I can't wait for summer! :)
Jennifer Hernandez You can roast the seeds also. They have a sort of chestnutty taste
Thank you so much. I just purchased one today and watched your video to learn how to eat.
I love to eat jackfruit but didn't know it has so much health benefit.
Thank you for showing us how to cut it and to know what is eattable.. So far your video is a lot better than others
I got a jack fruit piece for the first time ever thanks for teaching me how to eat it!
Thank you for the information. Have you ever used the fruit as a meat substitute? I saw it on TheDoctors tv show and they were using it as a replacement for many different meat dishes.
I tried it for the first time and watched your video to teach me how. Thank you it was really informative and the fruit is amazing!
Thanks Raihana. Wonderful video. Looking forward to trying to find Jackfruit in our local grocery store. My mouth is watering!
Thank you so much for! I am so happy you liked it, it’s actually one of my favorite fruits to it. Appreciate your support 🤗
I'm considering doing a Jack Fruit Cobbler. I'll let you know.
Thanks for the lesson. Bought a package and did not know what to do with it. Will try it in my salad !
someone had posted about serving this as bbq they could not tell the difference it tasted just like bbq pork. Is this right this would be awesome if so
I just saw a video on FB about it tasting like bbq. can't wait to try it...
It tastes sweet but to me it's nothing like bbq
buddy jack it is a sugar free complete protein meat substitute!
Aditi Singh can you use it in stir fry?
Well I'm not a good cook but my mom use to boil it first in a pressure cooker because when you cook it raw its really hard to chew and then after boiling she makes the vegetable
in indonesia too :)
Thank you this was very interesting. My dear neighbor brought me a fresh piece and it was delicious and very interesting 😋
She is so cute. Also I hear jackfruit makes pretty good vegan pulled pork
I have been wanting to try jackfruit, and thanks to your video, my mouth is watering!
There was a jack fruit at sprouts, 24.99 for the whole thing.. just one fruit in the bin. I had to look it up.
Scared me wit the knife for a minute, but great video! thank you :)
J K Same here lol
What a great helpful video! My wife bought jackfruit for us to try but we had no idea how to eat it. This video helped us a lot. Now having tried jackfruit for the first time, we loved it! Can't wait to get it again! So sweet and mellow, with the texture of mango!
Jackfruit is the best!
+David Bloom
Totally agree with you!

Totally agree with you!
Another type of "jackfruit" is chempedak - it is the much more expensive type of jackfruit but it is far tastier than the jackfruit. It cost about $15/kg.
Is that your picture? You look beautiful!
i tot jackfruit is chempedak. and chempedak is jackfruit??
Just got home from another state where I bought my first jackfruit. Thanks to your video, I know how to peel. Haven't tried it yet.
Thank you I never tried before but I want to buy
I want to try it was told it's costly. Can you cook it
I purchased my first jack fruit today.
You are most welcome!
I just bought a whole one in Michigan for $1.69/lb. It was nearly $35 total.
+Nicole Rushe
Yes I believe it, unfortunately healthy foods and fruits are so much more expensive!
Nicole Lynn may I ask what store in Michigan? I live in the palm of the mitten area ;)
Monica Smith, it was Meijer. I'm in the thumb but I assume all Meijers are the same? I noticed later that they also have small packets of pre-cut and seasoned jackfruit.
thanks
to deter you from eating healthy and putting fast foods and processed crap out of business
We just bought a wedge of jackfruit, thank you for the video. I would also like to try durian but I learned that also needs to be a little bit orange in color to be more sweet.
I wonder if all of the dislikes are from people that hated the taste at first/bought a durian haha
bought my first jackfruit today and after watching your video, im so excited to try
1:56 LITTLE? I think you mean gigantic.
Its little, they can reach 100lbs!
Seeds too.
There is a website named jackfruit365.com
Tender fruit is used as a vegetable and is also good for diabetics as everything excluding the green skin and the central pith is cooked. And the result is delicious .
Yes the unripe jack fruit is great.... But the canned ripe jack fruit has way too much sugar in it, so I always try and buy the fresh one for me....
I just bought my first jackfruit at the Asian store, it’s so nice!!! Very tasty!! Thanks to show me how to eat it, I had no clue!
You are so welcome!🤗
Taste like peach and pear mix.
I agree
Whaaaa🤯
Just bought my first quarter of a jackfruit. Came on youtube to see what to do with it. Thank you so much for sharing how. I’m going to try it. I also heard where it can be cooked, like pulled pork with BBQ sauce which when cooked, it’s like meat. Bought it at Thyme Market.
So when you were growing up these used to grow in trees, how do they grow now? in cans?
Jeremiah Diaz how ignorant can you be. She was saying how when she was growing up they probably had jackfruit trees in their backyard so they’d eat them fresh. Now she probably has to buy them in cans or from the market. I hope your negativity ruins your life 😁
Technically u r right, that is what she said; yet clearly what she meant was as a kid..etc. My point however is this: It is kind of her to make these videos, and I am so pleased she made a video on Jackfruit so that now I will try it for the first time in my life, but can you tell me what you do for the Human Race ? Other than criticize ? For the waste of space u r ?
lucious brun are you Jeremiah Diaz? ... the person who made an ignorant comment on this woman’s video. No don’t @ me
lucious brun someone that was insulting her words, I don’t stand for bullying. Enjoy your jackfruit
I have not insulted anyone's words. I hope I do enjoy my Jackfruit, thank you.
Why does it look like your kitchen cabinets are breathing?!?
I am in Southeast Texas and just bought my first jackfruit. It’s not quite ripe yet so I’ll give it some time and report back. Very excited!
Need to dip hands and knife in oil because the sticky is very hard to get off...it's like sap almost that bad. Jackfruit is not that sweet. Nothing like an orange or grapes. It's great to use as a meat substitute!! Flavor it up like meat and it's a great stringy meat.
Grandma Jane it actually depends on how ripe the fruit is. The more ripe it is, the more softer and sweeter! :)
The ripe version is sweet. You can still rate some sweet in the Amish ripe one. It depends on the ripeness
The ripe one is diabetes level sweet + very juicy.
This is my first time trying jackfruit. You did a great job explaining how to peel and eat the fruit. I will start buying it on a regular basis. 😋
Never tried it, but im going to do so this week. Thanks for showing us how to cut and peel.
You made me want to eat it. I bought one and it's been sitting in my fridge. Now I know I can eat it raw. God is amazing.
Saw one of these for the first time in my entire life at the grocery store the other day and was SUPER curious. Thank you so much for showing!!
My first time trying it, thanks for teaching how to open it! So good!!!!
