They tried to build a Canal , much like the Panama Canal with the thought that charging for entry as this would greatly reduce time and danger for shipping would make them incredibly wealthy , however it was a disaster for them due to disease etc , and put Scotland in huge debt , They were definitely too early to the party when trying this as technology wasn’t up to scratch. this is one of the main reasons Scotland joined the UK as this huge debt would be covered for them .

For me and my Scottish run, I was bros with France. But then France got mostly conquered by Milan and being the bro that I was I took most of France's old lands back from Milan by force. And as fair compensation, I kept all the land I conquered because I knew France would understand. Because I was such a bro. *innocent whistle*
I love how Scotland, a relatively niche player faction, gets a full and wonderfully acted set of voicelines that is unique to them (until the Kingdoms expansion), while the entire Mediterranean has to share one set of voicelines.
This was great, simply just perfection all the way through; congrats on another banger Pilps. I now eagerly await The France Experience just for the hilariously snooty laughter, bashing on the English and HRE pig-dogs, and avenging Agincourt before it even happens.
I enjoy playing as Scotland because you can go from uniting the local Celtic rebels and feuding with the English, to shoving your pike into the HRE , doing a reverse invasion of Norway, and creating an Empire that spans from Ireland to Hamburg/Genoa.
i miss the small animations done by this game, the way the troops move, charge, to the way they reload and brace for cannon fire, it still makes medieval 2 my favorite total war still to this day. I really wish CA would put these small details into their new games. They honestly make a big difference. ;-;
They still have that for their newer warhammer games, just the focus is kinda on different things i think. Granted, i havent tried their historical games yet.
You really manage to condense all the fun of a total war campaign into these videos, and for that I salute you. It is actually more difficult to have fun playing Medieval 2 myself to the extent that I enjoy watching these Experiences.

I've thoroughly exhausted med2 to the point playing it feels like an absolute chore, but watching these lets me relive exactly all the fun parts.
You can also field those Scottish armoured swordsmen, Knights Hospitallers and mercenaries such as mercenary longbowmen, mercenary arquebusiers, etc.. There’s also a very fast moving mercenary light cavalry unit with armour piercing weapons from the east (“Alan light cavalry”?).
All I saw for a moment were kilts, pikes, Braveheart, and the need to scream out: *SSSCCCOOOTTTLLLAANNNDDD FFOOOORRREEVVVEEERRRR!!!!!!!!* _Begins to blare out Bagpipes to terrify English dogs_ Yes I'm back pilps. Good video as usual!

I took the whole world as england once. The worst to fight were the genoese, then those horse riders in the far east. Every unit was basically and armored knight with a long range bow, half the times a horse too. I threw mailed knight after mailed knight after feudal knight at them. This a good game.
Being of both English and Scottish heritage as a American I have no idea how to feel about playing either faction. I feel like both the villain and the hero and idk what to do. I also like Longbows tho soooo... *pew pew*. I am torn.

Is CustomCampaign2 a good mod? I was always missing new fctions and balance changes from Kingdoms in vanilla, but |retrofiit and every retrofit-based mod i tried (i.e. Vanilla Beyond) made the campaign AI extremly passive, no wars in the whole world for the first 35 turns, and they even have problem with sieging rebels.

My only issue with the Scots is the lack of late game unit variety. You're still stuck with Pike Walls, but with Mortars.

Scotland is basically, the devs watched Braveheart and said "aight that's all the research we need"
I took the whole world as england once. The worst to fight were the genoese, then those horse riders in the far east. Every unit was basically and armored knight with a long range bow, half the times a horse too. I threw mailed knight after mailed knight after feudal knight at them.
This a good game.

Being of both English and Scottish heritage as a American I have no idea how to feel about playing either faction. I feel like both the villain and the hero and idk what to do.

Is CustomCampaign2 a good mod? I was always missing new fctions and balance changes from Kingdoms in vanilla, but |retrofiit and every retrofit-based mod i tried (i.e. Vanilla Beyond) made the campaign AI extremly passive, no wars in the whole world for the first 35 turns, and they even have problem with sieging rebels.
Yes it is, i widely recommend it. And don't worry about the IA, is just as agresive and treacherous as vanilla's :)
Medieval II was the first game i owned as a kid, and i put thousands of hours into it conquering the world. i've been chasing that feeling ever since. theres just something about this game that just hit all the good points that HOI4 or CK3 just cant

It's beautifully ironic how in this scenario the Scots were fighting to secure their independence from England. And then once they did, they reformed into a powerful modern pike and shot army and embarked on a massive conquest. They became the very thing they swore to oppose.
