"But I didn't come twice... Or even once for that matter." - Linus 2016
omfg lol
Linus lies... He has two kids.
+SpurnOfHumanity 3 or 4
quote of the year
Omg I just commented the exact same thing
Last time I was this early, oh wait, I've never been this early. Holy Linusballs!
P.S I'm going to sleep and when I come back I want to see the likes rolling in.
+BBYT - Terra seems unlikely unless I reply to this and bump it to the top..
+LinusTechTips :D :D :D
+LinusTechTips Yeah right.
+LinusTechTips still seems unlikely
goodnight
Hi Linus and the crew.
I want to thank you.
Thank you for being so open and actually listening to your fans.
Thank you for making these videos, they make me happy even on bad times or when things dont work.
Ive always been a tech guy- thats how I came to your channel, but you guys made me stay for the community, the quality, and the hard work that you put into it.
So next year Im going to start studying software development, and even if I dont have time to watch your videos regularly- I will still look up for when I have time to watch a video or tune in to the WAN show.
Thank you once again.
Peace
I personally am going to upvote this in hopes that they read it. Cheers.
+Fat Max you dont really have to.. but thanks either way!
Best comment so far.
+Seppä lol I wrote this on mobile so yah
+12ohad Stop racism! Be a panda!
"But I didn't come twice... Or even once for that matter." - So that means your two children are not yours.
:)
I think he was saying he didn't have any leakage over the phone?
Is that why they look like Denis?
+RGInquisitor lol
RGInquisitor I applaud you. Way better comment than mine.
doesn't come at a surprise
typo near the beginning. "build qaulity"
Somebody missed the joke here
+MalchiaTRE lol I probably did
don't really think that's part of a joke but ok
sorry dude there was no joke there just a typo
+David Košič thanks!
I bet linus dropped the phone out of his lambo...
in the hollywood hills
+William T
It adds quality to the video and that makes him more money. A $700 phone doesn't even come close to what he would be making from UA-cam.
so fucking what? he dropped the phone ffs.. get over it
he has small hands. look at him trying to show the thing off. I don't blame him for dropping it tbh. he's just hella lucky that he had companies sending him tons of phones because if he had to wait years to get a new one if it died he would be in a tough situation.
He doesn't get stuff for free. Almost all products are just for review and after that he needs to send them back .
Pretty good review m10
That didn't work as well as last time...
u tried m9
+Lolsausages lol
Did you know my first phone was the HTC m7 m7
That's gr8 m9
For me HTC has never been gone, I've owned one since they began using Android... I will pick a HTC over a Samsung any day when it comes to build quality and overall feel. Yes Samsung has managed to use higher end hardware and camera's but that's not what it is all about. The major fail on HTC's part is their marketing, not because of bad phones. Honestly if I look at at the major Android smartphone brands; LG, Motorola, Huawei, HTC, Samsung & Sony... I've never understood why Samsung is the most popular judging by the phones, it's all marketing that made them big.
micglou sammy made some of the best phones of 2016 and most people like sammy more than HTC in build quality but hey its all preference
Sammy?! Really?!
Don't judge me😭
Ah yes 2016 the year of the exploding battery for Samsung. Very good year.
I remember reading this comment when I was researching the HTC 10. It's sad how far they have fallen. The phone did serve me well for 2 years then I switched to lg g7 in 2018. Now HTC is nowhere to be seen in the flagship race. Using an 8 pro atm :(
Man I remember when the EVO from HTC was all I wanted! It's really nice to see the market more saturated with great smartphone options. We've already seen how all these phones prompt companies to bring more affordable options to the market. Awesome video! Keep being an inspiration!
I still have my EVO 3D, I hope they give it a proper successor someday
***** Oh my goodness! The EVO 3D! I almost forgot about that! Haha those were the days man. I'd love to see companies taking risks like that agin!
If I remember right, the EVO 3D was basically a Sensation with the 3D technology added to it in a new body right? If so, how is yours still alive? My Sensation died after about 6 months (at the end of its life, the camera was covered in green lines, it frequently got too hot to hold, and had a standby time of 4 hours)!
I still have mine :D
James Micklewright I have the same problems, but I really don't use it much, if at all. Other than the problems you mentioned, it works fine. I actually ruined the digitizer ribbon cable about 4 months after I got it and I never got around to replacing the entire part until after a year, and since then it's performed its basic functions well. I honestly have no idea how it's managed to last me this long (although I'm probably answering my own question when I say that it's under very limited use so...)
You know what is the problem of HTC? *THE* *FVCKING* *OVERPRICE*
*cough Apple *cough
ikr i think LG has the best prices especially their older phones
LG *had* good pricing ... sadly not anymore.
At the moment the best bang for the buck is offered by OnePlus.
Some other chinese brands are also close (Xiaomi, ZTE, Meizu, LeEco ...), but OP has better software support (especially unofficial - XDA) so it'll stay relevant longer.
It is the same price as Apple...
Yeah, as much as I love my redmi note 3 pro (got it for 140$) I really hate the chinese implemetations/bloatware everywere. Kinda makes me want a oneplus/nexus because of the better android experience.
No OLED screen?
Pink hue?
No switchable battery?
Not waterproof?
They were so close. Why is it so hard to construct the perfect phone?
Well idk about the screen choice but as for the waterproofing and battery they probably didn't wanna sacrifice speaker audio by making it waterproof since speaker audio quality has always seemed to be HTC signature feature and the non-switchable battery is likely an aesthetic choice in order to maintain the quality metal unibody design of the M-series. I mean 3000mah is pretty solid already but the fast charging issues kinda cancels out the positives of that...
The best thing about a switchable battery is that batteries are usually the first thing that break (unless you keep dropping your phone like linus does) and thus you can just buy a new one ezpz.
because it costs alot to make them
because it costs alot to make them
Because after they make that expensive perfect smartphone, noboby would buy a new one 2 years after that?
Thats just basic economy/marketing.
Never ever make a perfect product, or you go bankrupt after some years cause nobody buys new stuff but keeps using their 2 year old perfect smartphone.
I don't understand your upload timing at all.
They often upload a video around this time. (2-4am EST). I would assume to attract viewers when they wake up for the day.
This channel has many viewer around the world so i think doesnt matter xD
+Mad Dodo They've mentioned in the past that their viewership is 65% from the US in a WAN show.
they're in vancouver so west coast. i presume they are just have videos set to upload at around midnight their time.
+Mad Dodo Ultimately, their content and upload times are going to be themed more towards a Canada/USA instead of Western Asia.
I feel like the editing recently is much slicker/funny/inventive. I'm loving it, great job guys!
8:03 Did linus really just say that? OMFG IM IN TEARS
Same! X'D
so what?
"LinusSexTip" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
from his videos I've seen he always throws in something dirty
Uh, what?? LOL wtf...linus! LOL I cant believe i heard that lol...
I've had the HTC 10 since launch, and while I agree with most of your review, I have to disagree with your screen pinkness problem. At work (large IT department) we've compared my HTC 10 to a S6 edge, S7, S7 Edge and iPhone 6, and everyone agrees the HTC has the best screen, it has the best contrast, most vivid colors and is easily the sharpest overall screen of the bunch. And mine doesn't have the pink tint yours has at all. HTC 10 for me has the best screen, the best sound and the best camera of all the current "flagships", and I've been able to test them all side by side. That's my few cents anyway.
Nah dude, S7's screen is better than the HTC's imo.
Samsung's flagships have one of the best displays on the market but my only complain is that they are pentile.
You got your feel wrong then. The only thing that i feels HTC 10 is better than S7e is only speaker and maybe more durable build quality.
_The HTC 10 Doesn't do anything wrong..._
Removable Battery says hi.
Hardware capacitive buttons, non-removable battery, lack of forward-facing stereo sound. If they had stuck the power button and volume rocker opposite one another so you can never press one without accidentally pressing the other, it would be every bit as bad as a Samsung phone.
Removable batteries are useless with quick charge, get over it, not needed anymore
How the heck are you holding the phone to press both at the same time, I only had issues in the first week of having an S7 Edge and after that it was fine because I was used to the phone.
removable batteries are the past, not entirely yet I'll admit, but in a couple of years
Quality of the internals is crap as well. Like it has been for years with HTC. Also not a great looking phone.
Are dents from Linus dropping it a standard feature?
You're the first reviewer to call the speaker set up superior to previous one iterations, and I've seen em all.
I have had HTC devices for years, they never let me down and know how to take a punch. I'll probably go for the 10 soon.
The thing is that HTC knows how to make phones. Their 'one m' phones are pure tanks and great phones.
They always manage to do so much right but they do a few things so wrong it pretty much fucks up the whole phone.
"Drop the phone and deliver my conclusion." Haha good shit.
what is this a more pricey oneplus 3?
Yep ;)
***** By default it has 64 GB which is enough space atleast for me.
But with micro sd, less ram, better speakers and software and super similar designs.. both look like crap on the front and nice on the back.
Eileen the Crow look like crap? I dont agree on that.
you need a comma
HTC One X was great phone... untill it got stuck to 4.2.2..thx Dickvidia
Too bad I sold mine. It really was a great phone. Isn't there a newer version of cyanogen mod for it?
Dickvidia?
+New American Fishkeeper Bet he means Nvidia, as One X had Nvidia chipset and when Nvidia dropped support for the chip, HTC could no longer update the firmware on the One X.
Simo Hirvonen yep , correct
yip, also had one. Replaced the battery after 3 years with the one X+ version. when I opened it up it was a nightmare. seriously how do they build these phones so dumb? if you open up a samsung phone everything is so well designed and modular but if you look inside a HTC phone you see the difference lol. after that I decided to never buy a HTC phone again. and various other reasons... updates etc
This is such a weird throwback. It's only been 3 years but this feels like a different era of technology.
HTC Evo was a classic back in the day. Im rocking the HTC One M8 atm. Really like it.
My first Android phone is an M8 :) and i still love it
we need to have a Nintendo of smartphones, someone who isn't afraid to make a new type of phone. even if its bad its something different.
Who is old enough here to have owned the first Android phone in the HTC g1? That phone was amazing in it's time.
My buddy at school once had a G1. At that time it was probably the most awesome phone in the entire school :D
I had an HTC hero back in the day, man that thing was terrible.
I'm old enough to have owned a nokia 6110
My best friend had a Hero back in the day, I was still stuck with a horrible Symbian powered Nokia. My first Android phone was the Sensation though, it was great for the first few months, then absolutely everything broke. I think it spent about as much time being repaired as it did being used...
My sister had the G1 and I had the G2 :)
Front facing boom sound speakers were very good, Idk how changing them is a good thing at all lol
I got an HTC One E8 about a year and a half ago and really enjoy it. It's the cheaper version of the M8 so it sacrifices some of luxury features and components such as the camera and metal finish but it has a nice screen and some nice horse power. It's great for gaming and video watching, which is is exactly what I do on it and why I wanted it.
Are you guys planning on reviewing the ZTE Axon 7?
I don't think so, they as far as I know only review high end device
Darn. It would be nice if they did. :/
+Joyrider I would say that the axon 7 is as high end as the oneplus 3 is and they reviewed the 3, plus in the Wan show they said that they tried to review the 100 dollar zte max pro so while it's not impossible I would say it's unlikely that they will review it.
If im not mistaken, they mentioned it on the WAN show (or at least, some ZTE) and that they had one, but it was locked to MetroPCS and they couldn't get it to work or activate it in Canada, so they wont be doing a review.
the REAL boomsound phone!
This review is *really* late!
lol
I know lol I watched it jus cuz it's ltt
Feels like every Phone is the same and in the reviews they just switch out the names...
HTC Black Rectangle 2016 is way better than the Samsung Blacker Rectangle 2016.
Not really. Look at the S7 which as an AMOLED-screen, and the Edge which has the curved digitizer and is water resistant. Look at the semi-modular LG G5.
You do realise a screen is just a screen to people who don't follow mobile news and just use their phone, right? Never mind that the Edge is a gimmick that just makes the phone even more awkward to hold without accidentally activating something on-screen.
Can someone translate that? I'm not fluent in gibberish.
Until you bring out the s7 edge. That phone is like the black sheep. It just doesn't fit in with the rest of the pack. S7 edge just seems like from the future or something. It's just that much better at everything and especially design.
Reason why I went with the HTC 10 vs the S7, it wasn't made out of glass. The reason why I never went with an iPhone was because of the glass backs. I don't like finger print magnets the S7 is, and the one time I might drop the phone is the time it can shatter. You can say put a case on it, but that defeats the argument for build quality.
The HTC 10 is built like a tank, and I feel like if I wanted to I can take the phone outside and not worry about the phone if I drop it on it's back.
I would have added no duplicate apps and stock like skin to your list.
I just got it 2 weeks ago and Im really happy with it
lol I'm on my m7
same here lel
same
m7 is better.. it doesn't fckn dent when you drop it
m8 master rice!
+Calvin Wong haha the M7 is a Tank
He's disappointed in Trump... Hmmm, he probably hasn't seen Hillary yet. Damn Canadians.
@frakthegods most of us do.
I'm Canadian. I like Bernie.
Care to elaborate?
@Gun
+frakthegods well somehow they were both nominated anyway
The first android phone I ever owned was the HTC Wildfire :)
Worst phone ever.
LMAO
Oh god me too whyyy
Me too! I hated it. Left for Windows phone afterwards.
Elliot Shayle Same, Nokia Lumia 920
+RainForDays same here! then I switched to the iPhone 5s, now I'm on the htc 10. full circle haha
Literally I had always wondered why the hell no one would use the earpiece speaker as a loudspeaker, it seemed like the most obvious solution to me such an age old problem...
I watched his last night and found it quite interesting despite some information being missing (build quality, ear phone sound quality, Wi-Fi and 4g specs). shortly after the battery on my iPhone 6 died and I put it on charge and it hasn't worked since. I went into town to ask about repairing and now I have a HTC 10. the keyboard is taking some getting used to but I'm happy so far
loving the Hitchhiker's guide reference in the intro
My very first smart phone was the HTC Desire HD and, for a 10 year old me, it was absolutely amazing. I could play all the latest games on it, it had a 720p camera on the back and it was nearly unbeatable for the time. I had the phone for 3/4 years (the longest I've ever had a phone) before switching to an iPhone 5. I was so in love with the phone until HTC decided to cut it off at Android 2.0, even though it was capable of running Android 4.0. There are now some great and very skilled programmers who have made it possible for that amazing phone to run on even Android Lollipop. My Dad took it into its own hands to bring life back to this phone, which he was very successful in doing. He used it until October of last year when both my Dad and I got ourselves a OnePlus 2 as our daily driver.
HTC has always had a place for me and the Desire HD is a phone I'll never forget :')
The use of the front earpiece as a loudspeaker combined with the one on the bottom is the Huawei P9 and the P9 Plus
HTC made my third smartphone. My first was the Sidekick, then the Palm Pre, and then the Evo 4G. The jump in tech over those years was ridiculous.
HTC customer service is a 10/10 for me. I got my phone soaked, it broke, sent it in and had it back within a week with no questions asked. phone had a dead spot in a screen so I sent it back and got it back with in another week. all free, no questions asked. phone is amazing, never had a single problem. the phone may not be the very top in every category, but it performs amazingly, great pictures, charges fast and gets what I need it to do done.
I like Linus' analysis at the end of the video. I completely agree with the thing about smartphones being more mature and I think its high time that people get the best all-in-one smartphone and then keep it for a LONG time.
Xperia Z3 had two front facing speakers built- in ear speaker about 2 years ago.
On the moto 4, the ear piece is the speaker as well
Now you make me feel old. I started HTC with the Touch Pro 2 and Android with the HTC Dream/ Tmobile G1.
Great review with a great and accurate summary of the state of smartphones in the conclusion. Really cool editing! Also, seems like you're having a bit of audio clipping issues on the last couple videos include this one.. . Might want to fix that.
He graced over the headphone amp power and sound tuning options. Sound is where this phone shines over the S7. It's the reason I bought this phone.
The Moto E (2nd Gen) uses the front "ear piece" as a speaker as well. for the whole "cant believe no one has thought of that yet"
I watched this video on an HTC One M7. Still going strong! The camera sucks but the phone is so beautiful that I feel like a winner.
I commend you for taking your time to review smartphones unlike other channels where they review smartphones that aren't yet available. Good job 👍
@Linus You say turn off the Dolby when using headphones but isn't it better to have it turned on and creating a custom audio profile to suite the headphones you are using. I find that doing this makes the audio sound great.
my first touch screen Phone was an old htc. has a really good screen/picture quality for watching videos.
my one 7 is like a serious tank, with the full metal caddy with a nice good feel and personally I loved it more than my old s4
-For all those planning to get a oneplus 3, it only works with GSM cellular networks (AT&T and t-mobile) it won't work with CDMA networks (Verizon sprint) I had to switch networks after I bought it
I have it and absolutely love it. had a m7 before it for 3 years.
I just got the Moto Z Force and it also uses the standard call speaker as the loud speaker as well.
HTC was my first Android phone too; the HTC Evo Shift. Never went back to them though. Very happy with my Nexus 6P
There is one thing I want from Linus Tech Tips and it is a full review of the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus. It seems like a phone that could put up a good fight to the flagships this year.
just bought one about 2 weeks ago, love it!
Hi Linus, I just subbed after watching dozens of your videos over a few weeks....good stuff here and entertaining.
Finally bought one and damn, am I happy with it!
Still here rocking an HTC One M7
Desire HD, it was my first Android, and first HTC.. Also my last, I realized before going to get another after.
Still got it, still works. Tough as nails.
I really wish you would add a link in the video description for every video you reference for the mobile viewers!
I went with the 10 over the S7 due to the solid build and the 24 bit DAC+amp. The only other phone that meets my criteria is the Axon7 and that was not an option when the time to switch phones came on my contract.
I got a HTC 10. The phone wasn't even sold in the store by my provider at several locations. Ordering it was a possibility but it was on back order until august. I ordered from HTC directly and save 100 bucks. I like how they took some of the best features and put it in the phone.
It sips power compared to my G4 which is good for pokemon go and the fast charger means I can give the power bank to my wife so she can charger her Samsung phone longer. literally plugged it in for one minute and gained 4 percent charge.
Actual Tactile buttons which are reachable on the phone is a plus.
Almost stock android experience without the bloat of fancy, over flamboyant interface that is a waste of milliseconds and power.
The fingerprint sensor is really good with only a few time I need to use my code in order to sign in due to finger misplacement.
The overall symmetric design with both the charger and the head phone jack with that on top is great. It's not on the bottom which means your phone is upside down in the pocket getting link in the charger but also it causes premature failure of the head phones when you rest your phone on the bed or lap when listening to music and surfing the web.
What it could be is more water resistant but I dont care for a changeable chin bar buttons to accommodate people who are use to Samsung devices (linus). Changeable gestures would be good too but they have an app for that. Maybe a IR selfy log in system like what is found on the Surface Book would be a nice quick sign in system other than the finger print sensor.
Lol I was just coming to your channel to complain that you aren't delivering on the phone reviews you promised. Thank you :P
a very fair and impartial review, personally I went for HTC10 over the other devices cause it was cheaper (on sale) and I dont really use all the fanciness that phones offer.
I would go for the HTC 10, but gonna grab an S7 instead
1. They don't sell it on AT&T, I can pay 25-30/month but not $600bucks all at one time.
2. Samsung is still the king for Camera's on Android
3. Wish they went with AMOLED
what about Sony cameras?
MrClazzy Crafter Ya they make excellent Camera's but way overpriced phones
+Corey Watford actually they are priced for the same as other flag ship phones,I have a Sony Xperia Z2 for the last 2 years and it's still powerful and the camera quality is still good.this is my personal opinion, I think Samsung are the king of screens maybe but I think Sony have the best cameras
MrClazzy Crafter Sony's do, but their Software on the Camera is rather poorly done, as well as their Software on Android is general is even behind "touchwiz" IMO
+Corey Watford yes I agree they could fox up the camera app and add a few features in software but otherwise, they're pretty good phones IMO
My friend did that speaker mod to his S6 a long time ago it works pretty good
@LinusTechTips, I would have appreciated it if you had covered the audio portion of the HTC 10, such as the dac and amplifier.
4:08 You mean like the Nexus 6p? Cause that was a thing before this phone.
I loved this phone for 2 weeks. Had to take it back and ended up getting a Galaxy S7. The 10 is a better phone for me but the problem I had with it was ring tones only played from that bottom speaker when I got calls. That's a problem for me for work. I couldn't hear the phone ring in my pocket at all even with the "ring louder in your pocket" setting turned on. At one point I missed a call because I couldn't hear it over the sound of the faucet running while washing my hands, even though it was on the counter next to me on MAX volume. After spending time with the S7, I have to say I'm happier with it. I like the phone size, IP68 rating, multitasking, and camera a lot better. The fingerprint scanner on the HTC 10 is hands down better. It's faster, more accurate, and more consistent when reading my fingers at different angles, but everything else about the S7 is just better. The only problem with the S7 is nobody makes a good screen protector for it. Any suggestions on a screen protector that actually covers the whole screen and doesn't leave a halo of an air pocket all around it?
0:05-0:08 I still Use An HTC One M7! But With A Custom ROM. I Installed The Custom ROM Recently Though.
OMG the earpiece is a speaker! GJ HTC, the Samsung Omnia i900 had that almost a decade ago.
If you jailbreak an iPhone theres a tweak named Activator that lets you use gestures to launch applications and perform certain things.
Still love my G4, however I had the infamous 'boot loop' and had it send it back under warranty. Anyone else experienced that?
I have the M8 coming from a Note II and I think Im going back to the Note series. M8 was ok serves its purpose but I need a phablet again!!
This excites me, considering (at least one of) this year's Nexuses are likely to be heavily based on this.
The dual front speakers was the reason why i bought the HTC One in the first place :/
--- because all other models without exception sux when it comes to listening to music on speaker...
A video with Linus in it makes even the ads fun to watch. ;)
I've been an HTC user for 6 years, I've had 3 HTC phones. I was going to get the HTC 10, but I don't know if I should switch over to the S7? Simplicity of the UI, no bloatware, good speakers and a good camera are what matters to me.
Earpiece speaker as loudspeaker, no one else thought of? Moto X Pure has dual front-facing speakers, the upper of the two is the earpiece speaker.
Whoever edited this video went all out. Great work and great review!
the Moto X line has a earpiece/loudspeaker combo along with a loudspeaker on the bottom
How's their update policy? Do they push out security updates? Feature upgrades? Do they differ from Stock/ASOP a lot?
I had the HTC HD2 about 4, 5 years ago. It was a decent phone. Had Windows on it initially, but I flashed android. It worked alright, especially for a phone in that time, but when I had to drive a bike through rain one day, it died. Apparently, riding a bike when it rains, with your phone in your pocket isn't intended use.
My first Android phone was the the HTC Tattoo. As I had been using "dumb-phones" (Nokia & Sony Ericsson) for a long time, this was a huge step, and I've loved Android ever since.
well this is a little off comparison but i think HTC 10, from a perfume perspective is like a dior sauvage or bleu de chanel. yep. basic or generic. but it works. its not bad. it just work and able to do what it supposed to do for this smartphone world.
Watched this on my HTC 10 :P I honestly find waterproof to be just a random gimmick that isn't necessary. It's nice but to me shouldn't influence whether to buy the phone or not because I don't need to swim with my phone. Mist proof on the other hand is very useful for showering and such. Furthermore the Dolby Sound isn't actually that bad just if your headphones aren't flat or have bass boosted it gives double and depending on your settings between app and headphones it can overdose the music. I found it to be really good at outdoor pictures so I'm not sure what you meant there lol. I do love the sound on these speakers and the Dolby modes help a lot for it. I never noticed the Pink tone at all but that's interesting and a nice change from boosted blue.
For the record, I love your stuff and not criticizing or anything just giving my opinion differences based on my experience for anyone that might want it or need it.
Still using (and loving!) my m8! This doesn't look like much of an upgrade.
I think most Xperia Zs use the earpiece as speaker, I know for sure my Z2 does.
For those that own this phone, is there a dedicated Album section/application, or am I forced to open the camera each time I have to look at my photos? Am I forced to used Google Photos then for my Gallery/Album app? If so, how do I organize photos into folders (like Windows?) or albums or whatever.
Thanks.
"I can't believe no one else thought of. The earpiece speaker doubles as a loud speaker." - 4:10
Ever heard of the Nexus 6P? It has two front facing speakers and one is the earpiece speaker.
i still this htc than s7... i still have the m8 and still performing very well...runs smoothly 😊😊😊
My first android phone was HTC too!!! only it was back in 2010 and it was Desire HD!
