Hi Tom, I'm just following up with my prior question about my Sony A7C overheating after 90 min use in a 72˚F room. Well after watching a few videos here on UA-cam that had other similar Sony cams overheating. All of the people that had the same issue were able to switch from "Standard" to "High" in the Menu of their cams and it solved their issues. Of course my Menu selection on the A7C is set up a bit differently, where I couldn't find it as they instructed. So I had to go through a few folders in the Menu and I found out where it was: Menu > Setup2 > Auto Power OFF Temp. > Standard or High. In the "Auto Power OFF Temp." section, it was set to "Standard." Switching it from "Standard" to "High" allowed me to keep my camera on for hours. So far I'm at 3.5+ hours and it's still going strong and the camera is just warm to the touch on the battery/handle side. You may want to do a video on this, as you do use these Sony cams quite a bit and other people may be going through the same issue. Thanks for your help anyway and keep up the amazing work!
Fantastic! I should've thought to mention that setting too! It's a bit different on different Sony cameras, but it's definitely the first thing to check. Sorry I didn't think of it 🤦🏻♂️
@@tombuck Well just to let you know that I’ve been letting it run pretty much all day and we’re close to seven hours and it’s still fine and just warm to the touch so I’m really glad that I was able to find a solution. But again I appreciate your quick replies and trying to help out.
OK, my non-proft works with smaller associations that occasionally contact us for tips on livestreaming. Thank you Doc Buck, I'll just ask them "You understand English? OK, then watch this video". Done. Great job!
They pop in and out sometimes, especially during mic reviews, but I don't play on camera too often. I'm not much of an expert when it comes to music recording, but I've been very happy with how condenser mics (like the Neat Worker Bee, Rode NT-1, or Lewitt LCT240) sound when they're right up against an amp.
Hello Tom, I’m looking to buy a newer model Mac mini, but what do you suggest I go with on a budget? I currently am using the Mac Mini late 2014 with 256 storage. I am looking into investing with a 2018 or 2020 Mac mini model that I can afford that will allow me to live stream with EcammLive and do videos at the same time. The Mac mini that I am currently using locks up and freezes so i’m looking into investing something that portable. What do you suggest?
Any of the M1 models are the way to go. Do not get an Intel Mini! It will not last nearly as long or perform nearly as well. As for RAM and memory, get as much as you can afford. My base model is still going strong, and it’s not hard to add external storage, so I’d prioritize RAM over storage. 👍
@tombuck Great video Tom You say you’re using the Mac mini basic version, will the MacBook Air M1 (basic 8g ram) do the trick ? Or the basic MacBook Pro 13”?
As far as I know the base model MacBook Air is this same computer just in the form of a laptop. A more powerful processor and more RAM is never a bad thing, but this is still awesome.
This continues to be my favorite "setup" description on the web. A well-thought-out approach to a quality stream with room to grow. At the same time, I was overwhelmed after dropping "the basics" into my Amazon shopping cart and seeing a total of $1,710 (mac mini $600, Ecamm $200, Sony E-10/kit $750, Samsung mic $60, Camlink $100). That's still a high entry point considering that creativity and imagination are the driving factors to a successful stream (as demonstrated by this excellent channel). The industry needs more affordable camera options. Maybe the cloud-based encoding/streaming services make sense as an entry point?
It’s definitely not cheap, but I tried to differentiate between “essentials” for getting a stream up and running vs. what you need to have something that looks and sounds a bit more professional. It took many years for me to learn, but the phrase “buy once, cry once” definitely rings true 😁
I switch it up a lot, but it’s usually the a7IV. I either run it into the ATEM or connect it separately via usb so it can be it’s own source in Ecamm 👍
@@tombuck thanks for your quick reply. How do you connect it overhead so it is nice and steady and doesn't fall? In other words, how do you have it rigged? Do you have a remote on the camera as well?
Dope video bro! I need that 3/8 to 1/4-20 adapter to connect my NTG to a boom arm lol. Can you link that? I see many on Amazon and I don't want to the wrong one 🙏🏾🙂
Hey TOM pls stop presenting gadgets like what you showed here in this video. My wife is about to kick me out for buying the things you present even though I don’t need those things. 😅
Your timing is perfect because I'm literally working on a video about that right now! Short answer, yes, especially for "studio" type settings. If you want to go out into the world more or combine a bit more photo/video stuff, then the ZV-E10 II offers a lot of nice upgrades, but as a super solid 4K compact studio camera, the original still kicks butt.
whatta likable guy, huh?.. wow man. Fantastic video! Thank you!. I want to make the plunge and do a drum related videostream. Rudiments and stuff+. Hinestly, i have 2 sm57s and a KSM 32. I am still new to capturing analog signals, but, was gonna have 57 on drumpad, 57 on me and 32 for room?.. that will go into a Mackie that goes into Tascam 4x4. Now this can go into OBS right?.. but what if i have iPhoneX for a camera?.. and a Macbook from 2015? does iPhone send video-data via an HdMI adaptor into Mac? (I do have a Rebel t2i… use it?) 🙏🏻
Please please please , do a video on differences between canon and Sony you have noticed in capability and ease of use. Especially sound with the handle/K3M if we didn’t have an atem. Appreciate it .
Tom I really love your content. For a weekly live stream with dual mirror less cameras via ecamm live. Will the MacBook Pro 14’’ 16gb of rams be enough ? Thank you
Hi Tom! Do you have suggestions for gear to stream High school basketball games. I'm looking for use the film for recruiting videos. I would like to stream on twitter and UA-cam.
Ahh yes, I've lived the high school sports streaming life. We used to use a big clunky setup, but honestly, if I were still teaching I would look into using a YoloBox Pro and some of the Hollyland Wireless units. You can run the entire stream from the YoloBox and not have to worry about running long cables through a gym or stadium.
what if you want 4k with 3 or more cameras? Can't plug them all directly in to the computer. If the ATEM Mini Pro only outputs at 1080p, what board can I get that will be 4K output?
Great video. I had a question about cameras. Given how ubiquitous phone cameras are and the camera apps. How do those compare to the cameras you mentioned?
This is a really great question. They all shoot 4K, so what’s the difference right? Phones have some incredible software that gives really great results, but cameras like these have giant sensors and interchangeable lenses, which just can’t be replicated with software. So basically it’s easier to get good results with a phone, but you can get better results with a dedicated camera set properly. But if you’ve got a lot of bright light and you want the entire frame in focus, the difference won’t be as noticeable. That’s a short explanation, but I hope it makes sense.
Haha, it was a mix of all those with a bit of Troy McClure sprinkled in. And it was on the Sony since it has XLR inputs (which I then purposely made sound bad...sorry camera).
Hi Tom, I am having an issue with some audio do you have a video for audio from your USB channel bleeding or mixing into the Mic channel at the same time? This has been driving me crazy for a while now. Thank you.
I've never had an USB audio bleeding internal (internal bleeding sounds really bad, but hopefully you know what I mean 😁). The only time I've had an issue like that is if I'm using external speakers and the volume is set a bit too loud so it ends up being picked up on the mics.
WOW mark the calendar WE TOTALLY AGREE! Sony EV-10 is the best camera for a Normal webstream (1080 and not 4K). On audio, I disagree somewhat but to be honest, I always overdo audio (remember I live in Nashville, i.e. MUSIC City USA) but great overview! Epiphan has a complete system that is rock-solid. It's used in education a whole lot. I just copied this link so when people want an overview I'll send it to them. (Probably need to warn them about the cheesy science part...LOL)
Great video! One mic beginners might want to check out as well, is the new Beacn Mic. It's a USB mic, but it does all it's processing, noise gate, compression, anti-clipping onboard. All the DSP is done in real time negating the need for an audio interface or VST's thus lightening the load on your PC as it won't have to run any VST's in the background. The software side of it is pretty incredible and simple as well. Very intuitive. I WAS an XLR guy before I got mine. Less things to process or worry about is always handy. I also got the Beacn Mix and it's certainly something beginners could really benefit from as well. Or an experienced streamer just looking to simplify their rig without cutting quality or features (My situation). I swear this isn't a paid promotion haha, I'm just really impressed with mine. P.S. LOVE the Aquabats Art! Such a great band.
OOoh, thanks for appreciating my ridiculous number of Aquabats posters 😁 The Beacn seems interesting. I've been watching reviews on it- EposVox's was particularly interesting (including the follow up) since it shows how much the software is a part of the mic.
@@tombuck One can never have too many Aquabats posters 😉 EposVox did a great job (as usual) and his follow up was great. It’s so tricky with mic’s as everyone’s voice varies so much. I didn’t run into the issue he brought up that he had to eat the mic for it to sound good, but different techniques for different voices I suppose. I checked out a few more of your videos, great stuff! You’ve got a new subscriber.
thank you for this great video. Love the puns too! I have 2 cam links and 1 mini stream deck, using obs. I purchased it these so I could record video and manage 3 camera scenes all at the same time . overhead, front face and split scene. Using my mb pro 13 once I had all set up and had all on recording mode my fans were so loud I could not hear myself. I was so scared my mb would blow up I stopped and have not been able to fix the issue. Looks like I will need a computer that can run all this at once. Thanks again for this great video explaining everything in plain English helped me understand the setup I have and diagnose my problem. Now I just have to save enough to purchase a computer and I think I will have a decent setup. 😘
Thanks for the kind words! Sounds like you've got quite an awesome setup, except for the super loud computer. I had that same issue with my Intel MacBook Pro. It won't hurt the computer, but the fan noise can definitely cause problems for your audio (I even tried hiding mine on the floor under the desk for a while 😁). That's why I ended up getting the base model M1 Mac mini last year. Any of the M1 or M2 Macs will give you amazing performance while starting completely silent (the Mini is just the least expensive option- if you checked Apple's Refurbished store it's often there for under $600).
😀 The style of the "simplified scientific explanation" part is epic. I smiled. I watched that part three times in a row. You seem to be having fun yourself. 🤓👨🏫 Thank you for your persistent work. If it was up to me, you would get that award again this year. With a slightly different name... 🙏
Hahah about the "assume" part. I do agree about the camera with a interchangeable lens, it's WAY nicer for streams. I am a Canon girl but I am looking into that Sony ZVE10 , but good thing I don't need it right now lol more money out of pocket if I did. Audio is definitely essential
Suppose you’d rather record video, edit it, and then put it out there? What if you wanted a couple of camera angles plus capture something on computer screen? Can Adobe premier Pro on a well equipped PC do this? Are most of the equipment needs similar for recording vs streaming? Thanks!
I really love the YoloBox and the Rodecaster Video. The ATEM is wonderful for basic switching, but if you want to do anything more advanced then the other two devices are much more capable. The Rodecaster is a bit more reliable but limited (and has the BEST audio options around) while the YoloBox is more feature-packed, but not always 100% reliable.
Hey Buck-a-roo, i currently use a GoXLR mini for streaming. I’m thinking of starting a Podcast so would a Rodecaster Pro be able to be used for streaming and Podcasting (not at the same time obviously). One of my favourite hobbies is spending money on tech that I never get around to using, so I’m hoping the Rodecaster Pro can live up to this. 😉 Love the content amigo ❤️
Thanks for the kind words amigo! The RCP can definitely be used to streaming and podcasting (even at the same time- you can record internally while using it as an interface). 👍 We have similar hobbies.
Hi Tom, (Google Meeting/Discord etc)) I have a ProCaster II Pro for sound (Mic and Headphones) can't seem to find (anywhere) how that intergrates with my Quality Camera, your video is great and mentions software but what about audio settings to make it all come together, and avoid things like Sound in sync with My image during a conf call? Apprciate some direction, cheers...
Sync is definitely important. Pretty much all software has the option to add an audio delay (I use about 4 frames in Ecamm, and always have to experiment a bit when using OBS). If you're using software that doesn't have it, the RCP2 has the option to add a delay in the output settings.
I would mention that a setup with multiple usb mics can be a pain in the ... neck, so if you're planning to have guest or somthing on your podcast xlr is way easier to set up.
I have the Atem Mini and am thinking of getting a Stream Deck to simplify the use of macros. I keep seeing that the SD needs to be connected to the network via an Ethernet wired connection. Is that true? Please excuse my newb question, but we all start somewhere.
Now that you've got your stream up and running, here are some common mistakes to avoid: ua-cam.com/video/8UNdDjz5Ybc/v-deo.html

Haha thank you! Had to put those old cameras to use somehow.
Done. Great job!
Perfect! That’s what I was hoping this video would be helpful for 👍
Hi Tom,
many thanks for this great video. Would you buy the Sony FX3 over the Sony ZV-E10 and if so why?
Many thanks in advance!
Any vids of you playing those guitars? Or tips on how to record electric and acoustic guitar?
They pop in and out sometimes, especially during mic reviews, but I don't play on camera too often. I'm not much of an expert when it comes to music recording, but I've been very happy with how condenser mics (like the Neat Worker Bee, Rode NT-1, or Lewitt LCT240) sound when they're right up against an amp.
Tons of great info in this one, watched it twice!
Thanks Patrick! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Tom. Good presentation. Appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!
The “In-Tents” pun was great! 🤣🤣🤣 Great info in this video. Definitely sharing this one!
That’s always been one of my favorites. 😁
I have got the Sony DSC-HX60V right now😅. Should I upgrade it or is it a great choice for streaming and videos?
Any equipment under Tom Bucks?
@tombuck
Great video Tom
You say you’re using the Mac mini basic version, will the MacBook Air M1 (basic 8g ram) do the trick ? Or the basic MacBook Pro 13”?
As far as I know the base model MacBook Air is this same computer just in the form of a laptop.
A more powerful processor and more RAM is never a bad thing, but this is still awesome.
So good! Amazing tips as always. I'm rebuilding my Podcasting setup and this definitely gave me so new fresh ideas.
Your setup is awesome 🙌
@@tombuck thank you 😊
This continues to be my favorite "setup" description on the web.
Thanks for sharing. What camera do you use for your overhead cam? How do you have it connected?
I switch it up a lot, but it’s usually the a7IV. I either run it into the ATEM or connect it separately via usb so it can be it’s own source in Ecamm 👍
@@tombuck thanks for your quick reply. How do you connect it overhead so it is nice and steady and doesn't fall? In other words, how do you have it rigged? Do you have a remote on the camera as well?
Super "fun-damentals". Love it
Great video! We use the Rode nt1-a The samson q9u is a great usb/xlr microphone
The Samson is a great one too! I really like the app that comes with the MV7 though, so I usually recommend it to people just starting out.
I came for the information and stayed for the puns. Great stuff Tom.
Thanks Wayne!
Fantastic Tom! I really need to start doing some Livestreams! If only my channel had a niche. LOL! Keep up the great content!
Streaming is super fun! I]I probably should’ve also added that something will always go wrong during a stream 😁
The dad jokes in this are everything
Dope video bro! I need that 3/8 to 1/4-20 adapter to connect my NTG to a boom arm lol. Can you link that? I see many on Amazon and I don't want to the wrong one 🙏🏾🙂
The amount of dad jokes in this video is impressive but I enjoyed that 😂😂
That takes the most effort for sure 😬
Hey TOM pls stop presenting gadgets like what you showed here in this video. My wife is about to kick me out for buying the things you present even though I don’t need those things. 😅
Please send my apologies to your wife 🙏
Tom, I just happened to have my closed captioning on and I caught the unspoken pun at 3:48. "I canon't believe it!" 😂👍🔥
I’m glad it paid off 😁
Question Tom do I need a micro SD card inserted in the rodecaster if I use stream yard?
Nope, it'll work as an interface without a memory card 👍
great vid mate
Thank you kindly!
@@tombuck 🙂
Great video may I ask what mount your using to connect the overhead boom pole to your tripod???
It’s from iFootage. I love it.
Do you have a link for those Diety wireless mic set?
It’s the Pocket Wireless (there is a link if the review I did for it).
Do you still think the Sony zv e10 is still a good choice? I’m looking to get a good one under $1000
Your timing is perfect because I'm literally working on a video about that right now! Short answer, yes, especially for "studio" type settings. If you want to go out into the world more or combine a bit more photo/video stuff, then the ZV-E10 II offers a lot of nice upgrades, but as a super solid 4K compact studio camera, the original still kicks butt.
@@tombuck awesome!! Thanks for the response and I look forward to the video!! Literally subbed to you today and adding notifications!! 🔔
Does it make a difference between APS-C and full frame for talking head?
Your work is super sharp. Mine is still too soft. and the ambient is a bit low... You are more than a great pun.!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate the kind words.
Tom had a crack team of Dads working overtime writing the jokes for this video. Great guide! I need to experiment using my shotgun mic for streams.
I feel bad for all the time I keep them away from their families.
This was very entertaining and informative! Keep them coming
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just came here to say: WOW nice thumbnail!
THANK YOU! This one took quite a while to figure out.
Hey, what are the mics mounted on in the background?
They’re little posts from Amazing. I have a video about my mic wall and it has links to everything 👍
Love your videos! Thank you!
I appreciate the kind words!
whatta likable guy, huh?..
I’m working on that video right now! The audio handle has been really awesome for me. I’ve come to rely on it quite a bit.
Tom I really love your content. For a weekly live stream with dual mirror less cameras via ecamm live. Will the MacBook Pro 14’’ 16gb of rams be enough ? Thank you
Absolutely! Even with my MacBook I still use my base model Mac mini for all of my streams and it's never let me down 👍
Twomny! Great video, man. We gonna get to 100K or what?! Chop, chop!
One day, one day…
Nice setup. I use a Sony A7C and Rode videomic NTG. I would love the A7SIII BUT it's out of my budget
The a7C is such a nice camera!
Great video! For the USB XLR were you shooting with the Canon XL1 or the Sony ENG camera? And was it Mr. Wizard or Bill Nye you were channeling?? :)
@@tombuck LOPL I got what you mean mate, thank you for the reply I am going to do some digging.
thanks very much Tom
Very welcome
WOW mark the calendar WE TOTALLY AGREE! Sony EV-10 is the best camera for a Normal webstream (1080 and not 4K). On audio, I disagree somewhat but to be honest, I always overdo audio (remember I live in Nashville, i.e. MUSIC City USA) but great overview! Epiphan has a complete system that is rock-solid. It's used in education a whole lot. I just copied this link so when people want an overview I'll send it to them. (Probably need to warn them about the cheesy science part...LOL)
Haha, thanks Matt! I’m glad we’re mostly in agreement 😁
OOoh, thanks for appreciating my ridiculous number of Aquabats posters 😁
The Beacn seems interesting. I've been watching reviews on it- EposVox's was particularly interesting (including the follow up) since it shows how much the software is a part of the mic.
@@tombuck One can never have too many Aquabats posters 😉
EposVox did a great job (as usual) and his follow up was great. It’s so tricky with mic’s as everyone’s voice varies so much. I didn’t run into the issue he brought up that he had to eat the mic for it to sound good, but different techniques for different voices I suppose. I checked out a few more of your videos, great stuff! You’ve got a new subscriber.
Currently the Beacn products don't have Mac support, but I'm looking forward to when they do
if i use my 4K panasonic videocamera (it has external røde videomic pro+) can i use that as a mic ?
If it's connected via HDMI, it should send an audio signal.
@@tombuck Thanks, would work way better than my 40$ xlr mic from Devine :)
Thanks Tom 💯
I feel at home here. My family has sworn to never laugh at my puns, but I can’t stop them from forming in my head 😂
It's definitely not something you can "turn off" 😅
This was extremely helpful! Thank you for making these great videos!
thank you for this great video.
@@tombuck thank you will do.
Great info touching on all the factors to help people get in the streaming game.
Hopefully it helps out a bit!
Does ECAMM really add something if you already have ATEM to handle cameras, pic-in-pic or other effects?
Yes! Exam’s interface and ability to create scenes/graphics is infinitely easier.
Tom, I recently upgraded to the CAMLINK 4K -- Which HDMI cable do you recommend? Or doesn't matter?
It really doesn't matter. If anything, I'd advise against getting the really expensive ones (like those $100 cables form Best Buy.
@@tombuck, Thanks!
Love the vid bro
Thanks so much!
Dr. Buck rules!!!
😀 The style of the "simplified scientific explanation" part is epic. I smiled. I watched that part three times in a row. You seem to be having fun yourself. 🤓👨🏫
Thank you for your persistent work.
If it was up to me, you would get that award again this year. With a slightly different name... 🙏
Love your style 😄
Thank you!! 😊
I thought I was a Canon Guy, but dang, Sony just makes such good stuff 😁
Suppose you’d rather record video, edit it, and then put it out there? What if you wanted a couple of camera angles plus capture something on computer screen? Can Adobe premier Pro on a well equipped PC do this? Are most of the equipment needs similar for recording vs streaming? Thanks!
Great video and info. I enjoy your content. Do you prefer the Yolobox or the Atem? I'd like a Yolobox but they are pricey.
Gotcha. Makes sense. Thx!

Love the content amigo ❤️
Thanks for the kind words amigo! The RCP can definitely be used to streaming and podcasting (even at the same time- you can record internally while using it as an interface). 👍
We have similar hobbies.
Tom, thank you so much for the reply, I’ll learn the RCP2 settings and hopefully get it working seamlessly, have a nice weekend 👍

What mic is better? The shure MV-7 or the Rode Podcaster USB?
Both are great! I personally prefer the Shure’s “default” sound over the PodMic.
This is the greatest live streaming tutorial, I’ve ever seen. I’m not even pull your streams….I tried. Lol
Wow thank you! From someone who's as much of a streaming pro as you, it means a lot to hear this!
@@tombuck I learned it all from you. Haha
I would mention that a setup with multiple usb mics can be a pain in the ... neck, so if you're planning to have guest or somthing on your podcast xlr is way easier to set up.
Yes definitely! I've talked about that in other videos, but I should've mentioned it here too. XLR is great for multiple speakers/mics.
I have the Atem Mini and am thinking of getting a Stream Deck to simplify the use of macros. I keep seeing that the SD needs to be connected to the network via an Ethernet wired connection. Is that true? Please excuse my newb question, but we all start somewhere.
New drinking game. Every time Tom drops a pun take a shot... this hangover is going to be epic.
I'm not responsible for anyone's well being here 😬🍻
Would a shot gun mic put on a camera work for livestream rather than booming it?
It can- many capture cards will also accept an audio signal over hdmi, so you can select the card as your sound source in your streaming software.
@@tombuck Awesome! Thanks so much!
