I love how people say this is a different sound for Led Zeppelin. To me it sounds exactly like Led Zeppelin.
Perfectly said.
Yup
Led Zep 4 was slower then all the ones before. It’s also considered the best of Zeppelin.
yes
She wondered if that were page playing acoustic how could one person be good at both 😂
Literally a generation of overgrown toddlers
No autotune back then Brad? That is just a man with a phenomenal gift. Robert Plant is considered by most as the GOAT vocalist of all the best Rock bands of all time.
And you are absolutely right on!!! No other voice in music history 😝
Plant blew his voice out in maybe 1973, his voice has been weak ever since, almost 50 years. Watch Live Aid from 1985 as an example....
@@rhondamcbath6279 Freddie Mercury
Heavy reverb on that part ..
@@pulsarlights2825 I agree but to me their best album Physical Graffiti came out after he blew out his voice. And to be fair, it wasn't like his voice was horrible afterwards. It was just not as good. I do admit some live performances it was horrible but in general it wasn't. The reunion concert in 2007 it sounds pretty dam good for a 60+ year old man.
I would suggest “Hey Hey What Can I Do?”. It has a more acoustic feel and is still uptempo. Great song. No such thing as auto tune when this song was made.
Yep!
Hey Hey what Can I Do - great song a lot of people don't know about. Released in a boxed set in the early 90s. Highly recommended. And Going to California - definitely no auto tune in 1971. Developed in 1997.
"Hey hey what can I do" was released in 1970 on a 45 with "Immigrant song"
@@h8u4eva Yes, good point. Not on any of their albums released before Bonham’s death. I think they put it on the CODA album.
@@anitapaulus937 It wasn't on CODA. Other than the 45, it was released on the box set. Great tune.
I love this one. Tangerine and That's The Way are two other more mellow songs from them that I also love.
Was going to say the same thing, absolutely love those 2
Zeppelin 3 is so underrated. Some absolutely gorgeous songs on there, and so mellow you won't even need a joint to accompany listening to it...😍
Tangerine is one of my favorites
And The Rain Song....
That's the Way is one of my favorite songs of all time
Yes Lex, this is a Folk Rock song.
Jimmy Page playing the six and twelve string acoustics guitars. John Paul Jones is playing the mandolin.
Y'all need to do more Zeppelin. Brad, for more acoustic Led Z, try the songs "Bron-Y-Aur" and "Black Mountain Side" or "White Summer".
Yep and Bonzo was having a tea break- mmmm....
"Thank You" and "That's The Way" are another two beautiful songs by Led Zeppelin.
i don't hear 12 string on this. it was 2 or 3 guitars layered together.
@@mjt11860 it's 1 6-string guitar, 1 mandolin.
@@wesley.peterson it's actually 2 or 3 six string guitars and a mandolin
No auto tune...didn't have it back then. He just had echo on. Also acoustic guitar here by Jimmy and a mandolin by JPJ!
yup and sounded like he just stood further from the mic
Led Zeppelins ode to Joni Mitchell, loved the earls courts live version
on battle of evermore jimmys on the mandolin in a role reversal lol
haha that was awesome.."is that auto tune?" haha
REVERB NOT ECHO
Just something to keep in mind, if a song came out before 1998 it does not have autotune. They used reverb to give his voice that sound.
Another great example of why I think Zepplin is the greatest band of all time. Those guys could do anything they wanted musically.
This live...along with That's The Way at Earls Court is fabulous!
+1 for That's The Way live from Earls Court.
I remember in the early days of UA-cam they had they entire live at earls court concert on here. Even the part where he snorts coke off his arm. Of course now they’ve pulled that.
"Battle of Evermore" is another of theirs with nice acoustics.
I really think Brad would like " the battle of evermore" by led zepplin. Both would prob like it, has great harmonies! But its not the typical led zepplin sound?
And Sandy Denny's (RIP) backing vocals are just perfect.
Yeah, both songs feature nice mandolin work by John Paul Jones.
@@ZEPnALE I think Evermore was down by Page
Battle of Evermore....sooooo gooood
This just turned 50 a few weeks ago!!!
Every Zep album has an acoustic song on it and they were/are still the GOAT for some!
Every sound is a different sound from these guys. Legends.
One of the gentler songs from this great band. A lovely melody beautifully played, vocal work is wonderful!
I love how you two don't waste no time and get right to the song!! So many reaction channels start off just talking non-stop. Drives me crazy. thank you.
That’s why Zeppelin concerts are legendary. They were known for 3 hour concerts that consisted of rock, folk, and monstrous guitar solos. I watched an old interview of Jimmy Page, and he said, when they played live, you got to experience all the different the colors and shades…
One of their finest tunes. 🧡🌞
One of my favorites from Zeppelin very mellow great song
no auto tune . This album just had a 50 year anniversary November 8, 1971 yes Jimmy page was the only guitarist. He was a session player in England in the 1960’s .
Greetings from Oregon. Hitchhiked from Michigan and found and married my wife 33 years. This song is still very special.
There are 2 reasons for this song. Lex mentioned about the groups versatility and that is one reason but the other is that when they played live, they played for about 3 hours and during that time a song like this meant they could sit down for 5 minutes and have an acoustic break.
This Zeppelin Song has great sentimental value to me. I spent 54 years of my life in Syracuse, New York, and 2 of my friends had an acoustic Act and performed this song. Every Gig I attended the Year I left Syracuse, they made sure to include in their song list Going To California, because in August 2017 , I moved from Syracuse to Northern California, and I live about 60 miles from the birthplace of the Hippies Haight Ashbury San Francisco California, and my friends in Syracuse were friends that I grew up with, friendships that covered 40 years, and many of us were musicians🎸🎸 I am a retired Bass Player🎸🎸
Auto tune hadn't even been invented when this song was released. This is just real artistry from an amazing band. And Robert Plant can seriously sing.
This is my absolute favorite Led Zeppelin song!
Keep 'em coming! There are literally 60-70 (of 108 total) LZ songs that are worth reacting to, and I guarantee we'd all be here for all of 'em!!
Only 70?
@@tonyd1185 Knew that was coming, and you're right lol
@@benshafer5198 was there since the beginning.
I love listening to this song on a trip with windows down and loud music blaring. Love this song.
I love going to california!! i always rewind this bad boy. Plant & Page are in the zone. led zeppelin IV. great reaction to one of the most beautiful acoustic rock songs. thanks for bringing us 🔥
"Going to California" is a folk-style song, with Robert Plant on vocal, acoustic guitar by Jimmy Page and mandolin by John Paul Jones.
love the way you guys do videos. 14 seconds in and on the song. to many reaction videos have 1-2-3 minutes of rambling about nothing to start.
really enjoy your videos. hope you guys keep going long time!
I agree that you must listen to "That's the Way" - my favourite Zeppelin acoustic song. And Lex, for me it was great to hear an American pronounce the "i" in "versatile"!
This song is a bit of an homage to Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell whom both Robert and Jimmy were big fans of. When Joni got to the US, she settled in California which had a big folk music presence. Sometimes when they'd play this song in concert, after Robert sang the line "she plays guitar and cries and sings" he'd say "and she comes from Canada". Joni often used alternate guitar tunings for her songs, a skill Jimmy also often used for Zeppelin songs, including this song. Zeppelin have their own connection to California. California is the first place in the US that truly embraced Led Zeppelin's music. It was also the location of the infamous Hyatt House hotel (nicknamed the "Riot House") where the band would stay and was the scene for many legendary "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" type stories. When Jimmy was in California mixing the album this song was on, he experienced one of California's earthquakes, which is ironic considering the lyric "mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake".
Brad, you are spot-on with your explanation for electric and acoustic guitars. Same mechanics just played differently
Just a pure voice
I always love when you react to Led Zeppelin - my favorite is a live performance of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" titled - Danmarks Radio 1969. It's an amazing performance of a very young band - even if you never do a reaction to it - watch it sometime for your own personal pleasure. There are 3 or 4 other songs from that same performance - all fantastic. Thank you for your reactions.
That makes me homesick everytime I hear it.
No autotune in the 1970's, Brad!! You two should add "The Battle of Evermore" to your playlist. First the Led Zeppelin version, then the version as done by Heart! An epic cover if ever there was one, and showcases hidden talents of the Wilson sisters!
This is such a great song. The more I listen to it, the better it gets.
John Paul Jones is a talented musician, and played several instruments very well. His keyboard skills in particular are outstanding. Check out Trampled Underfoot for an example.
No auto tune back in the day .We were lucky if we had a color TV in 74 LOL . love you guys
You can’t get much more musically versatile than Led Zeppelin
Thank you. such a beautiful song robert wrote this for his wife and how much he loved her the lyrics are so well put together it will almost bring a tear to your eyes in my top 5 of zeppelin songs
They have a whole album that's acoustic just to prove they could. :)
Thats what made zeppelin so great, thier versitility. They so many different sounds
You should check out their live performance of this at Earl's Court. It sounds pretty much identical. If anything, even better! With no auto-tune , of course. :)
Trippy hippie vibes, man! "If you're going to San Francisco \ Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" Scott McKenzie "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)" (1967) "Stairway to Heaven" and "The Battle of Evermore" were the other two trippy hippie tunes on Led Zeppelin IV. Welsh songstress Sandy Denny joined Robert Plant on "The Battle of Evermore". She was the only other singer to ever appear on a Led Zeppelin album. The band even assigned a special symbol for her on the liner notes to the album. If you've got a thing for angelic voices, then lend your ears to her voice. Her work with Fairport Convention is quite masterful. For a taste, check out "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?", "Farewell, Farewell", "The Ballad Of Easy Rider", and "She Moves Through The Fair" among others.
Standing on a hill in the mountain of dreams...I love that lyric.
Memory's from back in the day going to California or Florida my favorite song by the greatest band ever led zeppelin memory's this song i can keep playing all day
Love you guys, great choice and my favorite classic rock band of all time. Thanks to my sister who introduced me to classic rock as she grew up in the 70's and me in the 80's. For me it was instant enjoyment. As you probably know by now, man starting over from failed relationship, time in Cali, earthquakes in Cali and shout out to the awesome and great songwriter Joni Mitchell is the song narrative.
I was smirking when you said "this is a different sound from what I'm used to from led zepplin" what you guys didn't hear was the beast drummer John Bonham. You can't get the real led out without Bonham. Anyhoo great reaction and don't forget to smoke your stuff and drink all your wine ✌
One of my all-time favorite Led Zeppelin song ever. There was no auto-tune back then, just pure talent.
So many beautiful people and the girls are wonderful. It's peaceful and inspiring.
Greetings from Oregon. Phido and I just love you two. Lex just adores you Brad. We wish all the best to you and your family.
Maybe the best string duet in all of music, as they chase each other around. And those LYRICS!
My first video of yours and I loved your reactions and commentary. Great job.
Love you guys! Lex, you are a 70s flower child in your soul! Thanks for reviewing so much Led Zeppelin. You should do Zeppelin 3 if you haven't already. "That's the Way" is the one to pick!
I was lucky enough to be given Zeppelin I. II. III. and Zeppelin IV aka ZOSO on cassettes when I was a young teen.
I highly recommend listening to each full album in that order.
Much love.
Great. I’ve just realised I spent ages learning this song on guitar and I haven’t played it for nearly a year and I’ve forgotten it again 😥
Hammer of the Gods!!
I grew up in the center of the Earth at the best time ever for music. Started listening to doo wop when i was 8 in 1957 and lived in Orange county ca. till now. Even though Led Zepplin was hard rock this still is my favorite by them.
One of their best songs. Give me nice chill happy vibes. Feels like in in a rual place just having fun.
One of my favorite zeppelin tunes
you have just barely scratched the surface with Zepplin, they are very eclectic & play a variety of music mostly blues based but a lot with a Medieval flavor too - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS!
Brilliant choice guys. Brad, that was definitely NOT autotune, man. One reason is that autotune tune wasn't around in 1971 and the other is that Robert Plant is one of rock music's greatest vocalists. He has no need autotune: he can sing.
And the guitars were Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones on the other guitar as there's no bass. You should check out more of the acoustic, rustic side to Led Zeppelin. "That's The Way", "Gallows Pole", "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp", "Friends", "The Battle Of Evermore" and "Hey Hey What Can I Do" and "Poor Tom".
his song was written as a tribute to (then) folk singer Joni Mitchell, especially her beautiful tune "California" off of her classic "Blue" lp...
Zepp did more folky songs on their 3rd lp, which is my personal fav album; thanx for the memories of my youthful 1970s!
This reminds me of my mom and, dad. Listening to this outside my mom would take her motorcycle out if the garage. And, my dad working on his 1959 Impala. Or shed be working in the garden and my dad would sit there on the ground talking with her.
Yesssssssss!!!!! Love!!!!
I can feel my soul ebbing away with every second that passes.
That song brings back really good memories of my cuzin who past awhile ago we always had a Beer in our hands when this song was playing Good Times thanks for the reaction
They used to do an acoustic set during every concert. This was written for Joni Mitchell who’s music both Plant and Page loved.
I love Led Zeppelin and I love Going to California (especially the live version). It makes me cry every time.
Led Zeppelin has a huge acoustic library. Their 3rd album is mostly all acoustic except for two or three songs. Jimmy Page played some acoustic guitar on their very first album, an instrumental called "Black Mountain Side".
The versatility of this band is legendary.
One of all time favorite songs.
This is our rock and roll and we loved it
John Paul Jones plays mandolin in this song. Very fun to play!
All Zeppelin songs are unique,,,,,💥👍💥
Robert could sing not only with inhuman range of notes, but Brad as you noticed, he is not tied to the beat. This combination made him the guy all rock singers wished they were!
Ah the days of my youth, love led Zep
One of my favorite Zep songs.
My personal favorite Led Zeppelin song
Lex, you have GREAT taste in music. Zeppelin Rocks!!!
Led Zeppelin has so many qualities to their music 🎶 I love the strong songs but I gotta admit, their quiet ones are like hidden gems.
Such a beautiful song!
It shows how good Zeppelin were that 50 yrs on people still enjoy their music
Another GREAT folk sound by Zeppelin is Battle Of Evermore.
Oooooh soooooo goooood👍
A tribute to Joni Mitchell, who Plant & Page were fans of (The "girl with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair," the "queen without a king" who "plays guitar and cries and sings"),. She is a folk singer/songwriter (and later evolved into Jazz) from Canada who lived in Laurel Canyon in the mountains above LA in the late 60s early 70s. Great songwriter with the most beautiful voice you've ever heard. I recommend her song "California" though you can't go wrong with anything in her extensive catalog.
ZEP for Life! \o/ (And btw this is one of their best albums "Led Zeppelin III" despite being criticized at the time, precisely because it was much more acoustic than their previous albums).
Just his voice and some reverb. Old school studio gawds.
Live Baby! Great acoustic set live.
Greatest Band ever giving props to Joni . Love this track
Oh that incredible guitar playing!
Continue to be impressed and entertained by your reactions and analysis! They never fail to brighten my day and make for the best material to get lost in during micro-breaks at work. For a similar mellow vibe from Robert Plant, check out his solo work from the '80s & '90s, especially 'Big Log' and "In the Mood."
I love this song. All of the great bands can play, sing, or write most any style of music that moves them at the moment. Zep was one of those great bands. Thanks for the song. It always lifts me up.
He backed up from the mike and sang from deep down and ripped it to a high that was awesome. Pure talent
Zeppelin can do all kinds of different sounds and styles of songs. Hard blues rock is obviously their most played and loved.
Lex is such a rock fan!
The mandolin adds an amazing element
I love that Brad is viewing it through a hip-hop lens, and appreciating the cadence.
This is thousands of college students story in 60s and 70s to me all heading to sanfransisco to make it big and be part of the summer of love
My favorite guitarist, Steve Hackett, has one of the iconic prog rock electric guitar solos on the Genesis song Firth of Fifth, but he also has several entirely acoustic albums with orchestra backing. If you want to hear what he can do by himself with only one acoustic guitar, try his song Adriatic Blue.
"Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair" and "Find the queen without a king they say plays guitar and cries and sings" are a reference to Joni Mitchell.
