Great review. When we went full-time 3 years ago, we had the same decision - crew or mega cab. The mega's benefits far outweighed the negatives - room, storage, looks, size, etc. With 2 grown kids, dog, & 2 cats traveling with us, wanted all the room we could get. Got a Demco auto-sliding hitch, & it's been great - don't even have to think about it. Only downside is having to leave that 400-pound hitch in there all the time, but with being able to remove the head, bed is still usable, to an extent. Using it as a daily commuter right now, thankful for the shorter length than a crew - it's hard enough to park it as is. Wouldn't trade it for anything, though :)
I love my 2022 Ram 2500 laramie megacab. It's my daily driver/tow rig for our 32' travel trailer. I went with the hemi with the 4:10 and ram air suspension. I couldn't be happier with it. We recently took a 2500 mile road trip without the trailer. It was so comfortable! I will be really sad to see the megacab go, if those rumors are true
I love my mega cab, but put in an order last month for a CCLB. No kids in car seats and I'm looking forward to the longer wheelbase towing the 5th wheel. We'll see how it goes when the new truck gets here.
My man, I've been searching for this information!!!! Mega cab is 100% the way to go for us, perfect for dogs. I have 2 large dogs and they have a fuck ton of room.
We have the Mega cab DRW and it’s great. We got the limited addition and all the bells and whistles. The rear seats are down for our two German Shepard’s and they love it. It’s a great truck and the only complaint is that it has the 31 gallon gas tank, that is to small for this big truck pulling a 16,000 pound Fifth Wheel.
I've always liked the look of the Mega Cab! Lifted, Rims, Tires look awesome especially the Dually in my opinion. Just like the one you showed from CJC.. Cool shout out to them BTW!

When full the fuel gauge is pegged and the display reads 520 miles to empty. The gauges stays pegged and the MTE stays at 520 miles until I burn off around 18 gallons leaving 33 gallons in the tank. From this point on the MTE works fine. The gauge is not correct. I have checked the gauge several time when filling up. When the gauge needle drops to be precisely on the Full line I have 33 gallons remaining, at the 3/4 mark I have 24.5 gallons, at the 1/2 mark I have 16.5 gallons , and at the 1/4 mark I have 8 gallons. Can’t put anything underneath that mega cab seat if you ever intend to fold it down, also I believe the factory gooseneck hitch is a turnover ball so there’s really no reason to buy an aftermarket kit and try and install it yourself. It’s the same thing.
Just upgraded to a Mega Cab 3500 gasser from the Power Wagon. I kicked around the idea of getting that dually but decided on the SRW. I’m digging it so far. If I end up moving onto a different truck, I think it would be a dually based on future plans. Thanks for the video.

@@JB_WhoWork I agree with what you said in the video. I've always thought that if they put the 1500 cab on the HD, the mega is gone. I think the 1500 cab actually had more legroom than the mega.
The 68RFE is a great transmission despite what people say, go back to the beginning of my channel and you will see a guy who had over 400k miles on a 2015 RAM with same setup just in a 2500 👍🏾
Is the Ram Mega Cab with reclining rear seats the best option for back seat passenger comfort? Do the HD Ford or GM models have a rear seat that is as comfortable as the Ram Mega Cab?
I'm really looking forward to when Ram upgrades the HD's to the 5th generation body style like the 1500. Ram nailed it with the 5th gen style, but it's a bummer they waited to make the changes to the HD models. I'd be a buyer of a new 3500 today if the body style was updated.
I think either looks good, I guess I would lean towards the mega looking better on 37's and I do prefer the extra room. However, I have yet to see a good setup for running a transfer tank/tool box with a 5th wheel or gooseneck setup. Whereas with the longer bed, everything fits just fine. So, Mega Cab, Long Bed? Also, its crazy to me that they don't finish the bottom of the rear seat....Even my 2016 F150 had a nice felt bottom on the seat.
Hey JB! On one of the camper pages on Facebook there was a guy who took a mega cab and cut his frame and added to it to make his truck a mega can long bed!! Talk about the perfect truck!! It looked great too!
I’m waiting to see if they get crew cab back seat as big as the half tons when they go full 5th Gen. Love my Megacab I have now though. I had my two boys sit in all the HD trucks in Chicago at the auto show this year. The Ford definitely has enough legroom you just don’t have behind the seat like the Mega. Ford with the 7.3 gas is tempting.
Have you seen any mega cabs w/the B&W offset ball and goosebox able to make a 90 degree turn? I'm getting ready to order and keep going back n forth between mega and long bed. Preference is mega, but don't want the 5th wheel to get too close.
I love the look of a srw mega cab, but the duallys just kinda look odd to me, they still look great, especcially in black, but i definitely prefer the long bed duallys
Something to consider with these 2 payloads, FCA confirmed if the truck comes with a 5th wheel hitch it is taken into consideration, so the mega cab is actually 233# higher payload if you take that hitch out.
My truck that was just delivered last week is nearly identical to that black one, mines granite crystal with pretty much everything minus sunroof. Payload is 4844, if you subtract the hitch it’s 5077, which lines right up with what that truck is.
@@JB_WhoWork btw, if you know anyone looking to order a HD Ram, I negotiated $3500 off MSRP, when the sticker came out it was $2800 higher, the dealer absorbed the costs. So at $6300 off MSRP, I think I faired pretty well with todays market. Hit up Kenny from Tacoma Dodge.

What is a bit odd to me - is that the Ram mega is close to the Ford crew cab in length. The Ford Super cab is basically the same length as the Ram crew cab. The ford is a longer truck in the same cab comparison. I am in a pinch. I have a Ram that I will be trading in. If I want to stay with a similar length truck, I would only be able to get a jumper type seat if I get a Ford.
I like the 8 ft. bed and the 50 gallon fuel tank also and you know what color truck I like brother. Delmonico Red or Olive Green! That Olive Green (aka: Army Green ) with the Night Edition would be awesome. Thanks for the review of the 2 truck JB.
@@ricwestdoesitwork You're right, that olive green is gorgeous, but they don't make them in the Night Edition sadly. Cjc offroad on UA-cam converted his and its beautiful
I have to disagree with you, the best looking Ram truck has to be between the megacab with a long bed mod and the TRX. Extra fuel is always welcome, so external fuel tank on the 8ft bed to make it a 100 galons of fuel should be a must! I would ditch the 5th wheel any day and get the goose neck just because it is a better towing platform in the weight range it can handle, 5th wheel makes sense once you get to big rigs like 18 wheelers. One thing though, have you ever seen a ram dually with a super single setup? I mean, It seems unpractical when you think about a puncture and having to swap a tire, but it may look insane.
I mean the mega cab is a very good look besides the down side about having a truck is the room so who wouldn’t want their truck more roomier than normal ?
I have a 21 Ram 3500 single rear wheel. I don’t have the air suspension with it. But what really raises my hackles is the fact that there is no helper springs in the rear!😡 secondly the area where this helper springs should be all looks so barren and empty. On another note you can’t get 410 gears In a single wheel 3500.
This video killed me because my truck is supposed to be in the shop today to get my Carli 3.25” pintop installed, but Carli didn’t have the parts to build the King shocks in time, so install was pushed to mid March. I’ll still have to wait a while for the torsion sway bar after the install though, because that part is delayed 6-8 weeks.
@@JB_WhoWork I’m excited to get it done, but I definitely puckered for a few days after I paid the near $15k for the kit though. I’m even using the stock Alcoa wheels for this project. Tires alone are over $2,800, but luckily the shop was able to source 6 immediately so I don’t have to wait for those. I’ll dm you on IG with pics once it’s done.
Fuel tank option on the long bed alone is worth the crew cab. I mean if it was 50 on the crew and 40 on the mega I'd be a little closer but 31on the mega is too small.
I just bought a Limited 3500 Mega Cab. An easy solution is to install a 3rd party fuel tank. I am having a 50 gallon tank installed next week. Its more money but I get the best of both worlds.
@@danmorgan940 how is it best of both worlds when you have to spend more to get a special hitch just to make a 90 degree turn the leg room is the same on the crew and mega cab all you get is a little bit of storage that’s almost unusable because they have those metal legs holding the seats up. Oh wait I forgot the rear seat recline a little because that’s worth spending a extra 5 to 10k on a truck.
@@Back_door_bandit_98 you actually get a bit more room in the rear seat leg room with the mega cab. I had a crew and just upgraded this year to a mega. That upgrade is only like $1,200 from crew to mega with the same options.
@@myront.miller6868 gotcha yeah if it’s the same options but you can only get the mega cab in a Laramie compared to the crew cab being offered in every trim your going to be forking over more cash just for a somewhat bigger cab to me it’s not worth having a baby bed for reclining seats.
The mega cab just seemed to have a lot of wasted space in the cab. None of it seems very usable or useful. The 8 foot bed seems much more useful and usable, especially when you factor in the massive fuel tank. The interior room barely changes at all either. It’s just more wasted space behind the backseat with the mega. Only real difference is that you can lay the seats back. I ordered a Chevy 2500 (which was supposed to already be in transit) 2 months ago. I’m thinking of looking at Dodge now. I’m planning to 5th wheel full time like you. I’m really feeling a 1 ton now though. Although I saw a F250 towing a massive 5th wheel today with a side by side behind that, and it wasn’t squatting at all. Maybe he added an extra leaf spring. That was my plan for the 2500... I’d appreciate your opinion as you’ already doing this. Thanks JB!
The mega cab seats lay completely flat. it allows me to lay a large dog bed down and put the dog back there he's 100lbs. Also if you have kids in car seats they cant kick or reach the front seats with there legs. on the mega cab you can stick jumper cables, tow straps, first aid kit, blankets etc in the small storage behind the back seats or under them. id rather have all that then the 2ft extra bed length.
@@charger118 You can do all that in a long bed without stinking up your interior. Long bed trucks are a million % more useful. If you're not towing with a 5th wheel, you can throw on a tonneau cover or a canopy and you're better than a mega cab any day of the week especially with having the option to remove any of those two within minutes. Talking from experience.
@@Ak47777-l I owned an 06 mega cab. my father has a 15 long bed longhorn 3500. My knees hit the back of his seats and a child in a car seat would be even worse. You get alot more space in the cab no comparison. Long bed seats flip up and the middle seat is tiny. The only way I would get a long bed is if I was heavy hauling a 5th wheel or gooseneck all the time. Different people have different needs and the larger cab far out weights the 2ft of bed space I wouldn't use 99% of the time. I tow a 34ft travel trailer which is also why I prefer the mega.

@@Ak47777-l For sure. The needs that you have it makes sense to get a long bed! My trucks for family use and camping. I still don't know why they do that cutout in the middle of the backseat on longbeds. It really bugs me.
Too bad can't get a Mega cab long box. Be perfect have both cab and bed length and have options for both gas, diesel, all trims, srw, dually, a 2500 - 5500 ect.

Does the Mega cab bed is it the same specs as a 6'.4" bed on a crew cab 2500/3500
Can you get 50 gallon tank from factory for single axle 2500?
This video killed me because my truck is supposed to be in the shop today to get my Carli 3.25” pintop installed, but Carli didn’t have the parts to build the King shocks in time, so install was pushed to mid March. I’ll still have to wait a while for the torsion sway bar after the install though, because that part is delayed 6-8 weeks.
Sorry bro, that truck pretty much sealed what I’m gonna get in the future lol! Can’t wait to see your build once it’s done!
Wow… it’s not cheap to lift these rigs…
My long box 2023 Laramie did not come with 50gallon tank. Kind of choked about that
Why all my trucks have front long bench seats, so I can lie down to take naps.
I aint got any buddies that I'm comfortable with spooning.
You can use an anderson 5th wheel 3220.
Can I get Mega with 8ft bed????????
PLEASE get a tripod to hold the camera still.....pleeeeze!
You put a toolbox or welder in the mega cab you have about half a inch left of bed
There is an outfit ( company) that puts 8 ft beds on this mega cab for 7500.00 dollars.
All the mega cabs have a reduced towing allowance, from what I could tell.
@@charger118 Hey man for each their own. Ive owned a 06 mega. I do Construction and I told myself I would never get a mega again due to needing more bed space. Ended up getting a 16' long bed Laramie. Now I currently own a 20' long bed laramie night edition and I'm glad I never looked back. It never felt right to me, but if you love the mega than that's all that matters man.
@@Ak47777-l For sure. The needs that you have it makes sense to get a long bed! My trucks for family use and camping. I just about never need to use a long bed and if I do I just lower the tailgate for longer items etc. If the longbed had just a hair bigger cab and the seat folded flat instead of up id prefer a longbed for the larger fuel tank. I still don't know why they do that cutout in the middle of the backseat on longbeds. It really bugs me.
Too bad can't get a Mega cab long box. Be perfect have both cab and bed length and have options for both gas, diesel, all trims, srw, dually, a 2500 - 5500 ect.
Did you win the lottery yet ? It been 2 yrs now
On the megs cab and reclining back seats as long as you don't knock out the back window while they are relaxing back there. It would be a real experience to have the 5,r cap smack someone in the back of the head. I have a crew cab with a 6'2" bed I wish I had the 8' bed but it is what it is, Diesels are getting hard to find used in good shape, new is way out of my price range unless I won a Powerball 🙃.
Megacab with short bed looks funny. Disproportionate
The transmission says otherwise
The mega cab is mega ugly......never liked them and still don't I have a crew cab long bed Ram and would never consider a mega cab
Any bed less than 6 feet looks so ugly to me. What a useless truck
