That is nice from the factory to have the 50 gal tank, I have a 2020 Megacab dually. I'm planning to swap it out for a 52 or 53 gal aftermarket tank. I forget which brand it is.
We have the Ram 3500 Mega cab Limited addition, with all the bells and whistles. We use it mostly for towing our Bighorn, which usually weighs in at 16,000 pounds. It’s a great truck! We can park it in normal size parking spaces if need be. The 8 foot bed you would stick out way to much. We use the rear seat area for our two German Shepard’s who love that big area. If you measure that area out, it about the same size as a queen size bed. We use an Anderson Ultimate hitch and we can turn to 85 degrees, but rarely have had to do that. We have towed all over the country in the last two years and have had zero problems with the truck. The only thing that I would like to have Ram change is the 31 gallon diesel tank. When you get 9 to 11 mpg towing : that does not go to long. We had a 2500 Laramie SRW Diesel, but when we got our new Bighorn it turned out to be heavy for it. Printed numbers lie on both the truck and trailer weights. The 3500 pulls it like it’s not even there, so a way more comfortable tow.
Wow thanks for sharing! For 2020 you can get a 50 gallon tank option on longbed trucks but wish it was available for all. I too had the issue of only being able to go barely 250 miles before looking for the next station and that stinks when getting diesel takes about 30 minutes every time you stop 👍🏾
I have a 2019 Laramie Mega dually with every option (minus the 4:10 gears) & love it. We full-time RV with our 41-foot Solitude & pulls like a dream. Demco slider hitch has no clearance problems up to 90 degree turns. Wanted a Mega & glad we did - reclining seats, room behind the seats, flat floor for hauling stuff, & a lot more room for our 2 teenagers, golden retriever, & 2 cats. Plus, I may be in the minority here, but I think it looks a LOT better than a long bed - much more balanced.
Yup, but if you need a truck that's family and parking lot friendly, but still has the towing capacity, well then you definitely want the mega-cab, short bed combo. Everyone's needs are unique to them. Austin is notorious for having undersized parking spaces and tight quarters in parking lots. There's no way I would want a long wheelbase truck. If you need extra capacity for a job, get a bed extender and/or a trailer.

I really enjoyed this video. Hey! I’ve got an idea that Ram still somehow has not thought of. Offer the MegaCab with an 8 foot bed. Since there are after market shops that stretch MegaCabs all the time successfully, why not just manufacture that model?
Fred, I wish they would. I have the mega in a dually and the ONLY reason I'd want the 8' bed is to fit a normal-sized camper on it and still be able to tow my boats. Otherwise, the 6.5' bed is perfection. for towing my 41' 5th wheel and all the daily stuff I use it for.
I like that mega cab dually. That setup always looks good to me! Thanks for sharing about the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep. That’s the only draw back to the mega cab is the 5th wheel towing. I’m sure that the price would be about the same going with the aftermarket B&W as if you added the option of the prep package, if not maybe a little less. 🤷🏼♂️
No problem, I wish that were true but getting a B&W turnover is going to cost closer to $1k for parts/labor. I’m basing this off of a forum post I read awhile back but you could get it cheaper depending on who installs 👍🏾
Lol! That’s why I always get everything I can from the factory because getting anything done aftermarket cost so much more. I was gonna add a 50 gallon tank to my truck but they wanted $1300 for everything and they said my miles til empty may not work. The factory 50 gallon tank cost $295 😂
Kinda hoping that Ram will do a Mega Cab Longbox. Comes down to wheel base regulations and DOT length limits. Would be a game changer. We'd all buy one.
Damn...for a “hot shot” set-up, getting the MegaCab would be better to sleep in but getting the long bed, gives you the bigger fuel tank and probably better in “towing situations?”
Even if you have the 5th wheel prep package from the dealer you can actually unbolt the factory gooseneck box and bolt in a B&W one so you can have the square shank

There are also quite a few owners of Mega Cabs that use them for cross-country travel where they sleep in them. Try doing that night after night in a Crew Cab. Go with the Mega Cab, Longhorn, upgrades, and the Aisin tranny and you’re golden for the next 10-20 years.
Appreciate the insights you share. You helped me decide on my 2500 Hemi I ordered for better payload capacity rating. I see a lot of people in the comments choosing to go 3500 so they can carry more to be "street legal". It may be worth reminding them that if their combined vehicle and trailer weight exceeds 26k lbs then most states require a class A and/or CDL to actually be legally driven. Most rv dealerships won't say that or people make blanket statements about rv exemptions which often aren't true. In my experience as a prior law enforcement officer, most officers cared more about proper registration and licensing than manufacturer payload rating numbers which are harder to enforce since people make modifications from the factory packages. Some people could get into more trouble getting a higher weight rated truck without the right license vs putting airbags on a 2500 when the numbers are a little tight with payload. No one likes recommending anyone challenge the gvwr nor am I right now trying to do so but gvwr often speaks to the classification of commercial vs no-commercial more than the capability of the vehicle. But back to my point, people may actually need to choose less trailer like I did unless they are willing to step up to the requirements of a class A or CDL which I'm not interested in these days lol.
Thanks for sharing! The reason why I say to not exceed GVWR is because the sticker on the door tells you not to so there’s grounds to action if you get in a accident or pulled over 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork I most definitely agree that exceeding the manufacturer rating is technically illegal by the state laws I've seen! Just wanted to add that people may literally be towing illegally if for example they have a truck with a registered gvwr of 11400 and a trailer registered gvwr anything over 14600 without a class A since the gcwr would be over 26k lbs. I agree exceeding any manufacturer rating is not only a bad idea but also illegal lol. Thanks for bringing awareness to this!
Bro, you found my truck! Yes the long bed hands down. You sacrifice room in the cab, but gain it in the bed. It is so nice towing and not being worried when backing up that the bulk head is going to hit the cab. I opted not to get HO and Aisian, so my payload is 5,760 lbs but I do have the 4:10. When I purchased my truck, the sales man told me he had never seen someone so anal about numbers in his life, and yes, I am anal as hell when it comes to those numbers. I looked at so many trucks, I thought I would never find it. One then that day came, I found Rambo, and I have never looked back or regretted it. Rambo is a frigging beast man, a beast I tell ya. I cannot get it in the garage, or most drive through fast food joints, and no car washes. It's just too damn big.
This is helping me in making a decision to purchase a Ram5500.-I have my trusty 2002 f350,long bed, crew 7.3)☆.& 2017 f350 platinum 4×4,♡but after driving the new 5500 ram ,I'm hooked on Cummins.,,mo power teee!☆
Totally agree on the looks of the mega short bed in a dually! Good Lord that thing is hot. We actually just ordered one in Night Edition.. cant wait for it to deliver!
Great job showing the differences! I think it’s great that Ram has kept the Mega cab. That gives more options of what fits the buyer. We like the Mega cab over the crew for now because of the storage behind the seats. The kids throw pillows and blankets back there along with the dog bowls leash and toys. When we go to a fifth wheel and the kids are grown we will most likely go to a long bed crew though.
Thanks bro! I wish RAM would step up to a 6’ 9” bed to accommodate just a little more storage but I find the current size adequate. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
I love the mega cab, but I also need the 8ft need for transfer tank and toolbox. Plus a gooseneck. Been checking out stretch my truck. Probably gong to get a mega cab Longhorn dually and extend the frame for a 8ft bed. Thank you for the excellent video!
great video! The B and W offset ball might have helped me make my decision. I'd like to see a video of different towing options like that, as well as the set-up you run. What are the pros and cons to converting a fifth to goose?
Long bed FTW. Having more hauling room is way more important than giving passengers a lazyboy... to me. Had a short bed... never again. But I do love both trucks since they have CTDs.
@James Paolilli No way any truck OWNER would say stupid shit like that. Not everyone needs to haul full sheets of plywood every day. And short beds haul 5th wheels with up to 90 degree turning radius' all the time.
@James Paolilli My apologies. I thought this was an adult channel. You clearly have ZERO real-world experience with actual trucks (not including your toy trucks with their LONG beds). No real owner of a truck would claim one bed is better than another, just different uses. So please go back down to the basement and wait for mom to cut the crusts off your PB&J sammie. You know...the ONLY way it should be, right? f-ing idiot.
I would go for the mega cab because it’s very massive line very very powerful top of the line trim levels and make sure upgrades and with 6 camera Mode Version
@James Paolilli don't tote that much weight!! Been driving a dodge 3500 daily for 15 years!! Drove the new F350 and Chevy in a 2500 as no 3500 on lot. I will stick to the Dodge!
@James Paolilli haha. That would never happen. I would buy a ram if it had 4 out of 10 stars. Which it doesn't. I have been gas for my past 3 rams and can't wait to be apart of the Cummins family
@James Paolilli its funny because I just looked the specs up on the f450 as I didn't know and as I would never buy a Ford, it has a higher payload which makes sense but it has a 10k less tow capacity haha. Also if u wanted to compare now the ram 4500 it then again destroys the payload compared to the f450, so stop being a troll, the facts are there if you like the f450 so much you would have watched this video
Hey I've just found your channel and I'm looking to start my own trucking business and I have to say you gave me some great insight into two of these trucks that I'm looking at thanks for the great Content keep it up keep it up brother.
Hey, stumbled across this video. One question... did you try a turning radius comparison between the two trucks? I'm curious to know the difference between the two because there clearly is a wheel base difference. The Mega cab should turn tighter...
Wish they would just make either a mega cab long bed or mega cab and chassis that was set up for a 8 foot flat bed. Love the cab space, hate the worthless bed.
@@JB_WhoWork I'm trying to find the video it's 3500 I think it was a 2017 but I mean he could be wrong he just said they made a few from factory they look amazing tho
Love these videos. Can you share a video peek at the air suspension and leaf springs on the 3500 dually, actual footage around the axle and tires. Thank you for your in depth videos!
I would have to get the long bed. The Mega Can short bed just looks stubby to me. You can just haul more and I like having lots of payload. I would however get the air bags on the truck no matter what. Thanks reviewing these 2 trucks JB.
Why doesn't Dodge Ram make a long bed version of the mega cab who knows. You've got private body shops from coast to coast out there doing their very own private fabrication work installing them with no problem. Big bucks for those guys for folks who are willing to pay for it though. They look awesome.
Pretty good I would rather have the long bed myself I want have to worry about getting a slider hitch I can keep the one I have now, I'm loving the 50 gals fuel tank.
I think the long bed looks better, not a fan of the mega cab... what’s the deal with the Cummins fuel pumps failing and sending metal throughout the engines? Has this been fixed yet?
Still wish ram would off a “max tow package” for the 3500 with the wider front axle for better turn radius like the 4500. It also looks great with that stance, Just look at the f450. And if it had better turn radius ide be down with owning a long bed dually 👍
Man I’m hoping the same too... the 450 sells well at least from what I see. Every time in the past I tried to review one, they would sell within weeks of arriving.
I’m personally fine with a crew cab and a short bed. I like having the daily drivability and be ability to park just about wherever. I Think it would be cool if they offered a crew cab short bed dually
They could do a crew short dually but it wouldn’t sell well. I think the Mega makes since for now but once they redesign the cabs, I could see the Mega going away...
@@JB_WhoWork yeah if they add a new longer crew cab it would make much sense to keep the mega. I seem to remember for having a crew cab with a short dually at one point. But like you said it must not have sold well
Lmao. The ccsb rides like HELL. My 18 3500 srw ccsb with rear air rides like a tank! I hate it. Put new tires and carli suspension on it just to get it to the tolerable level. A ccsb dually would have 1500lbs mor payload. Which means more stiff springs. That would ride and buck like hell! Short wb all ride like hell!
Hey man we are thinking about getting rid of the nv 3500 and getting in a mega cab dually. Maybe ur next review can be mega cab dually with hemi and the 8 speed transmission. I'm curious
I'm thinking of buying a ram cummins.. I wanted to know what is the difference between a 2021 cummins diesel 2500 and 3500 single rear wheel?? or can you do a video about the trucks...
Great video JB. Looking forward to part two because I'm in the market for a truck. GMC AT4/Denali or a Ram Litmited. I'm worried about Transmission issues and CP4 in the Ram. You habe any insight to any of these issues, especially some stuff on the CP4?
I will try to post it by no later than next Sunday but I wouldn’t worry about what you hear. It’s just noise from typically people who don’t own the truck! Either truck can have problems which is why I have a MOPAR warranty 👍🏾
The 2019s have an asymmetrical design CP4.2 pump which appear to be having some issues and biting the dust as early as 7000 miles. They switched to a symmetrical design CP4.2 for 2020. No one knows exactly why but hopefully for durability. The pump is put on the engine from Cummins. I have no qualms about the Aisin. It shifts like I would expect and I really don't think I would want more gears than 6.
@@heyttsguy Thanks for the response. I've been watching UA-cam and these issues have been coming up plus its sounds like Ram doesn't have the supply to fix them if they go bad. I want to buy a truck in the next 90 days or less and having worries like that sway me to others brands even though I really like Ram.
I have a 8 foot bed anything shorter is completely useless to me because I tow a 40 footer and I have a large tool box for tools. Plus I don't carry any passengers so the megacab is a waste for me. They look nice but I still prefer the long bed. Great review tho

Yes sir, wish more people would be anal about their numbers! That’s such a big payload for a non cab/chassis 👍🏾
J mean k love the mega cab for sure....but the long bed is always the number 1 option... Especially if the truck is being used for work.
Good info, I was torn between the two. The mega cab is for me.
Heck yea! The mega looks great in single or dual and still can tow similar to the long bed so I’m with you, thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Longer bed seems more practical if you're using your truck as a truck
Totally agree on the looks of the mega short bed in a dually! Good Lord that thing is hot. We actually just ordered one in Night Edition.. cant wait for it to deliver!
😍😍😍😍! Send me a photo of that please!
@@JB_WhoWork my truck finally came in... LOVE IT! Dont know how to post pics here, but ill try and send you one!
Both trucks are on the same frame. I have the 1st year megacab with the 5.7 hemi love it. The megacab weighs more.
Great video
Thanks 🙏🏾
Great job showing the differences! I think it’s great that Ram has kept the Mega cab. That gives more options of what fits the buyer. We like the Mega cab over the crew for now because of the storage behind the seats. The kids throw pillows and blankets back there along with the dog bowls leash and toys. When we go to a fifth wheel and the kids are grown we will most likely go to a long bed crew though.
Thanks bro! I wish RAM would step up to a 6’ 9” bed to accommodate just a little more storage but I find the current size adequate. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
I love the mega cab. I would put a shell on the bed and just pull a trailer from the bumper
Great video. I’m a GM guy but will buy the ram 3500 when I’m in the market
I love the mega cab, but I also need the 8ft need for transfer tank and toolbox. Plus a gooseneck.
Been checking out stretch my truck. Probably gong to get a mega cab Longhorn dually and extend the frame for a 8ft bed.
Thank you for the excellent video!
Awesome review Thank you for the info. Helped me make my decision Mega all the way.
Perfect for hotshot… that mega cab short bed
Dually looks better with the 8’ bed in my opinion, but I really like a srw mega cab.
Yes I had to take my stock fuel tank out of my 2021 mega cab and put in a 55 gallon titan
great video!
Great value content placed in your videos, love it.👍
I would love to see a real megacab long bed. Best of both worlds I say
Great videos man. Keep them coming.
What about goosenecks… how would a mega cab short bed dually pull a gooseneck and have room for 90 degree turns?
Without a doubt, the Mega-Cab looks sick! The long bed just looks typical. Nice, but typical and common.
Great review thank you. Good info on the b&w ball .
I’m glad it was helpful, thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Awesome review. Enjoyed it tremendously. Please keep on doing that.
Thanks, glad it was helpful 👍🏾
I like the long bed best!! I want a new 3500 SRW 4x4 with the long bed!!
Just bought one. It comes in 2 weeks
JD Power rated the RAM brand high on quality, dependability, and performance so it’s safe to say RAM is more reliable than the rest 💪🏾
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing this 👍🏾
Thanks for the video. Tough choices. I like the mega. But I like to make those tight maneuvers as well while towing.
No problem, I’ve never had to make a tight turn but my fifth wheel cap is further away 👍🏾
I have the 8’ dually, 19’ Laramie. But man those megacab dually’s are sexy! Definitely my next dually!
I am looking to get a 3500, thanks for making these videos
Short bed dually looks beast and better but the mega cab i hear is better for stablity.
Hey, stumbled across this video. One question... did you try a turning radius comparison between the two trucks? I'm curious to know the difference between the two because there clearly is a wheel base difference. The Mega cab should turn tighter...
Great idea... I did not have a chance but will try to do one in the future 👍🏾
Wish ram would make a longer bed option for mega cab
I have Ram 3500 Mega cab 2019 duly and I love it !!!!
💯
Wish they would just make either a mega cab long bed or mega cab and chassis that was set up for a 8 foot flat bed. Love the cab space, hate the worthless bed.
Is it more of a truck because it has a longer bed and wheel base, or is it all about interior cabin space, you choose?
I just found out they made a mega cab long bed that looks sick as hell love it
It’s an aftermarket build 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork from the videos from dodge they where factory but made a few
You know what model year?
@@JB_WhoWork I'm trying to find the video it's 3500 I think it was a 2017 but I mean he could be wrong he just said they made a few from factory they look amazing tho
There’s a company that does them and they do look great 👍🏾
This was an excellent informative video!!
Love these videos. Can you share a video peek at the air suspension and leaf springs on the 3500 dually, actual footage around the axle and tires. Thank you for your in depth videos!
Will do, be sure to subscribe and hit the bell notification! Stock is low around me but once I find a truck I will definitely do that!
Yea but Ford comes with free transmission rebuild with new purchase of 2020 F250-600. Does RAM offer this?
I would have to get the long bed. The Mega Can short bed just looks stubby to me. You can just haul more and I like having lots of payload. I would however get the air bags on the truck no matter what. Thanks reviewing these 2 trucks JB.
That long bed truck is 100% useful but love the idea of a shorter truck! Thanks for sharing!
@@JB_WhoWork you know it me Brother going to share with ya. Love those videos. What's Mikey P. up to these days?
Mikey P is swamped with projects so hopefully I will have him back on the channel once he slows back down
@@JB_WhoWork it will be good to see him again.
Great review. Makes me rethink the mega cab as a must. Thanks man! Great job
Thanks 🙏🏾
Grab the 4.10's if you plan to put on bigger tires.
I hope they make this option more available for more cab configurations in the future 👍🏾
I think the long bed looks better, not a fan of the mega cab... what’s the deal with the Cummins fuel pumps failing and sending metal throughout the engines? Has this been fixed yet?
Just noise from a few owners. I’ve had no problem and I drove all across the country this year 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork you own the MC Dually?
No sir I have a SRW
@@JB_WhoWork I love the MC in the dually, great review.
Thank You 👍🏾
Alright ive always dreamed of this so here me out a mega cab long bed dully it would be a beast
Yup, if only RAM new how bad people want them lol
@@JB_WhoWork ya but i belive theres a company that does conversions for that where they stretch the frame and put the bed on
Great job! Wish I saw this before I bought my truck though!
Like the long bed look, mega cab recline is nice but cabs are small compared to Ford/GM.
Yea the floor space is bigger in the other 2 for sure 👍🏾
Still wish ram would off a “max tow package” for the 3500 with the wider front axle for better turn radius like the 4500. It also looks great with that stance, Just look at the f450. And if it had better turn radius ide be down with owning a long bed dually 👍
Man I’m hoping the same too... the 450 sells well at least from what I see. Every time in the past I tried to review one, they would sell within weeks of arriving.
@@JB_WhoWork would be a good move for ram to make a consumer version of the 4500 or something akin to it.
@James Paolilli exactly why ram should use that wide track axle. At least as an option
Great job! Very informative 👏
Thank You 🙏🏽
I’m personally fine with a crew cab and a short bed.
@@crazyhass84 I like it 🤷♂️ rides smoother than my 16 crew cab long bed. Though that was a 3500. My current is a 2500 😂
Hey man we are thinking about getting rid of the nv 3500 and getting in a mega cab dually. Maybe ur next review can be mega cab dually with hemi and the 8 speed transmission. I'm curious
I would love to do that video but that truck will only be specially ordered since very few people order duallies with gas engines...
@@JB_WhoWork I ordered it was a great truck 2018 ram
Did you replace it with another?
@@JB_WhoWork nv 3500. We had another baby. Thinking about mega cab dually now
I can’t say how many times I’ve watched this……………
I’m doing a new one for you soon 👍🏾👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork lol great. They are great trucks 🛻 😂
🤘🏾🤘🏾
I'm thinking of buying a ram cummins.. I wanted to know what is the difference between a 2021 cummins diesel 2500 and 3500 single rear wheel?? or can you do a video about the trucks...
I did a video mid last year, it’s called the biggest mistake truck buyers make 👍🏾
Like the room of mega cab but the other one would be better for fifth wheel towing
Love this. Just ordered the MC.
Nice!
Can someone please tell me why in the hell there is a sport package for a mega cab dually?????
It’s just painted bumpers/grill
Amazing video
Great insight JB!!!
Thanks 👍🏾
The short bed dually looks like it got hard in the back
I have a 8 foot bed anything shorter is completely useless to me because I tow a 40 footer and I have a large tool box for tools. Plus I don't carry any passengers so the megacab is a waste for me. They look nice but I still prefer the long bed. Great review tho
Thanks for sharing Chad 👍🏾
