Excellent video! The way Jeff articulates the dynamics of each outfit-color, texture, combos, etc.-is masterful and makes you want to intentionally dress better and apply his style techniques. With an American classic foundation, each look has a unique aspect. It’s like having a private menswear coach in your corner!
WOW! That's a fantastic video! About two weeks ago, I wore a camel hair blazer for the very first time and paired it with a medium blue shirt, a dark blue paisley necktie, and medium gray trousers. Viewing your video has provided me with so many areas of exploration and combinations. Thanks for sharing!
Man o Man - that sounds like a beautiful pairing! Its funny that at first glance the camelhair seems like such a specific coloring as opposed to a navy blazer or something traditionally considered more easy to pair - but when you start with that great foundation of camel and grey trousers, you quickly realize it is just as much of a neutral as you can imagine. It really feels like one of the best examples of a true autumn staple piece! Glad you're enjoying the videos and happy to hear you're enjoying that blazer!
@SomeNotesonStyle excellent video....uniglo is located near me in the Bronx next 2 Jcpenney...I normally wear dark colored socks during fall winter seasons..dark and gray are fine..more variety is what I want..peace

Hey, that's really good to hear! Sounds like you've got a great lineup of brands going for sure. So many of these classic pieces end up being so universal that there's really such a language of these combinations and references that you can end up with a really unique style that'll never look out of date. Another great episode. Can you consider doing an episode on Glen plaid check sport coats and how best to pair them? I have a black and white glen plaid sport coat and I’m struggling to figure out what odd trousers to wear with it outside of charcoal gray. Not sure how they would look with mid grey or other colors like navy? I’m thinking that there is not enough contrast between the black and white glen plaid and mid grey trousers. Keep up the great work and great content!
I will certainly take a note on this - I've gotta be honest, I've been thinking about this comment all week! I want to try to do a Q&A episode and this and a few other questions - so keep an eye out for that one! But a (long) short answer - Definitely sounds like a fine classic choice that Glen Plaid - it's certainly a closet staple pattern for a jacket. But you're right - what trousers? Maybe a deeper or a lighter charcoal grey? If you blur/squint your eyes and would you say the overall grey of the jacket is - like a 70% grey? I guess what I mean is, that depending on the scale & contrast of the plaid, you could try to think of where it would hit on the 1-10 grey scale and maybe that would help to visualize to find a grey that might be a step or two up OR down, for contrast. But yea, tricky beyond charcoal for sure... And aside from grey - I mean what about some stone, tan, deep khaki, or taupe trousers? How about olive green? Maybe an odd tan or chocolate brown corduroy in winter? Cream flannels or wool gabardine (impossible to find, but could be a great blank canvas to let the plaid be showcased on sunnier days)? I can never decide if I like navy trousers or not - I mean navy and grey do certainly go together well, so why not? Maybe a slightly brighter shade of navy? Or maybe if you could find a navy flannel, like from Spier & Mackay that might have a little heathering in the color, that might have a little more visual depth so they don't look too flat against the Glen...And well, casually of course, blue or washed black jeans (maybe with a turtleneck) and stone, khaki or olive chinos (with an oxford) could always be a nice classic look. Natural/Cream or white jeans in the spring (with some brown suede chukka boots)? Jeez this is making me want a Glen Plaid, too!
I'd be interested in a video elaborating on whether to go for structured or unstructured shoulders. I've been moving to unstructured because it strikes me as more modern, but I'm sure you have great thoughts on it!!
Oooooo - okay now you're taking my language, my man! My jackets in my closet are separated right down the line between structured and unstructured shoulders! Especially now that so few guys wear tailored clothes, unstructured jackets really just seem like the best way of wearing something a little more formal without feeling too foreign for sure! But you really do have to do a little homework to find the right brands for sure - lately, I've been hooked on old LBM1911 I find on eBay. The Italians really know how to ride that line of finely tailored and unconstructed so well. But the hardest part is finding them in a size US 46 or 48, they're always so trim! What about a thrift store challenge for the future?! Please don’t stop!
Oh that's just so great to hear! It is really the best response to hear that someone's been inspired to try out some new styles from one of my videos! And I agree with you one trying to always be conscious of a range of price points and sources - I always want to try to base the channel on the fact that anyone can pull together a great style from anywhere they shop high or low and if you know what you're doing, no one will ever think twice about whatever brand you're wearing! Thrift store challenge is a great idea - although where I live, we only have one kinda not so great Goodwill near by - maybe I could do a variation on eBay (which is actually where I find most of my pieces anyway!😉) I'll take a note on that right now for a future episode - Thanks!
I might have something like many of these items already, but mostly skip the denim jeans with more upscale looks or whatever.
There are grey and khaki pants that aren't wool or denim. Also, I never really go to any of those mall stores like Old Navy or Gap because I seldom had any luck finding much there, but pretty sure Bean chamois shirts and such are similar t' the one w'out being polyester [or pill quite so much?].
the green tie looked blue in the mannequin shot first.
I've been disappointed w' suede jackets in the past. [seem rugged but wind goes right thru?]
Good call - I have some grey chinos, but always struggle with them either looking cool blue-ish cast or too green. But yes, they're so many options i could do another episode for sure! And good call on the Bean Chamois - I've got a few myself, they are really great aren't they? But I have yet to find this mid brown color exactly the same...
Sorry - I think it was flaring off of my green screen😬
An American using, 'grey' made my mind muddled.
Say what? Uhhh..Charcoal? What do Americans say otherwise? 🧐
@@SomeNotesonStyleI think he was likely referring to the spelling grey/gray.
Camel with black, navy,or dark brown….not grey
