So you found a way to do the paper doll- inventive. What stands out to me about your channel is your professional experience working at places like RL in creative. I don't think you need a lot of images, actually, you've got a great radio voice, and I think you could approach episodes like as if they were a podcast. Just an idea. Keep it up!
Well thanks! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the new format - sometimes, I get a little nervous with a slower pace with less visual stimulus. And I really appreciate your suggestion with regard to a more podcast style - maybe I should experiment with this idea more, sometimes when I'm trying to get my format style down, I go back and forth as to whether viewers will want to just get a handful of info and head out quickly, or if a more longform style would be more chilled out...And that's so nice to hear about my radio voice - sometimes in my own head, I think I sound like Eric Wareheim so I get nervous to just be comfortable with that.. P.S. Gonna Find Boyfriends Today is a an awesome single, man! Kind of reminds me of Paul Cherry or Jerry Paper - great stuff!!
I think something to note is that there's a crossover between sartorially interested men who are going to be the backbone of and consistent viewers on your channel, and men who enjoy long-form content. Don't be afraid to lean in too longform. Long form probably won't help your channel grow quickly, but it will help it grow sustainably and help you keep the subscribers and viewers that you get. Long game.
@ this is a really good point! Sometimes it becomes easy to get lost in the UA-cam algorithm game, but you’re right - getting to concerned with covering too much ground doesn’t allow for depth and breathing room on topics that do require deeper dives. Thanks for this, I need to keep thinking on this and try to find a good balance here…
Great video Joseph. Nice touch to include the history of LL Bean and describing how the iconic boots came to life. Keep up the good work. LL Beans stands for me for two things. Best quality Oxford shirts and knitwear. I have two of their Oxford shirts and they are of great quality. Soft to wear and easy to iron. They are the best on the market. I have a shawl collar cardigan and two of their crew neck wool sweaters. Everything made of 100% lambswool. Keeps me really warm and insulated during harsh Wisconsin winters. I do not mind washing it by hand. The more annoying part is to wait until the sweaters are air dried and it can be worn again. I know people who would forgo the experience of the great LL Bean knitwear because it cannot be machine washed. They have no idea what they miss.
Thanks for checking it out, bud! Ahhh a Tweed sport jacket video - it is without question one of my favorite topics, but It's just such a huge topic, I want to make it epic - so I keep putting it off! But I need to just throw it out there and not overthink it! I promise I will do this one!
Thanks, my man! Covering all that they offer is kind of a huge task - I feel like I could do it all over again and not use the same pieces twice! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Absolutely awesome video! I was intrigued from start to finish. 🤗 Thank you for all the time and effort you devoted to this video. I particularity loved learning the history of the brand. Keep ‘em coming!
Well researched, informative, articulate, and inspiring to listen to! What a great new voice for mens styling, with a classic American foundation! Awesome videos!
Nicely done, Joseph. I haven’t thought about LL Bean in decades now, but may be revisiting their catalog to consider some of your suggestions. I had that very same Norwegian blue and white fisherman sweater in college. Loved it as it was such a rugged and classic looking sweater. Only downside for someone living in the Southwest - the wool was so darn warm that I struggled to find many days cold enough to allow me to wear it. I still have an LL Bean backpack from college that I use for air travel duty. Q: Is work wear in your wheelhouse? I enjoy both the practicality and aesthetic of this style of clothing. I would be interested in your take.
Thanks - that's awesome you had one of those Norwegians, I've always wanted one myself - but good to know how heavy they are - might not do me much good in Texas! 🥵 Although, like I mentioned, I've got a few of their chunky cotton sweaters and I've been amazed at how much use I get out such a heavy sweater since its made from cotton! With Bean, its just nice to see a retailer sticking to that timeless classic language and keeping their prices in an attainable range! And yeah, with regard to workwear - I'd certainly be happy to cover that ground. I agree with you, it really does have such a cool, rugged utilitarian language that is hard to beat! To be honest, the only thing I'd be worried about is that most workwear guys are such diehards that I'd be nervous to give any advice, cause those guys know their stuff! Sometimes I watch the Iron Snail channel, and my jaw drops with how much detail this guy goes into! But I'll take a note on this and cover in the future!
Thank you for another great video, and I really like your insights on retail methods and designer methods, gained through your practical experience. This for me is your USP when compared with other similar content. And, yes - the doggy on the sweater! Subscribed and clicked the bell!
Nice! Much appreciated, I'm so glad you enjoyed! Yea, I'm glad to hear that comes across - I mean there are certainly a lot of great UA-camrs who have really quality content and style, but sometimes I hate to watch folks who just tell me this is a great piece over and over without any context or explanation. Thanks for joining up - glad to have you aboard!
Llbean is great, unfortunately outside of the boots its not sold in germany, so i have to buy vintage online, but that has so far almost always been a grear experience
Aw dang! I was afraid of that - I meant to check to see if they shipped overseas, but I forgot! Well sounds like you've got the right idea shopping vintage, and yea - if you ever come across their sweaters of flannel shirts, give 'em a try too!
On they website it says that they do ship internationally and that vat and customs duties are included in the price. Standard shipping for bellow 200 eur order would be 14 eur.
Yea, to be honest, I grew up in Texas - so sometimes i might've gotten an LL Bean shirt for Christmas or something, but I never realized that on the East Coast, this brand is a solid staple. I always find their shirts and sweaters to be really good quality for the price - but like I said, their catalogs are huge, you should go to their website and sign up for a catalog, fun to get in the mail sometimes!
Thanks! Yea, I mean they're just such a great reliable resource for grabbing pieces you can mix and match for a lifetime! Happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Men’s corduroy straight leg pants and original Norwegian sweaters are staples. I live in Santa Fe and the hunting boots, Made in Maine, are essential in winter. They have offshored most items since the 90s and some quality and sizing is hit and miss. I still have the field coat with liner that keeps me warm in almost any temps. Hiking socks are top notch.
Ordered the middle aged man blue fits and the middle aged man edgey black fits :-) Links would be very helpful. Love your videos, so damn helpful for us gentlemen! Thank you.
Yeah - and I think the tote bags too...but this is kind of a reality of all clothing manufacturing at this kind of scale. Sometimes I try to remind myself that getting stuff made from different parts of the world isn't all bad as long as the brand does it responsibly and keeps USA made as an equal contender. And its funny, cause I remember getting USA made stuff in the 80s that was kinda crappy too! 😂 But it must've been cool to be there in the early days when domestic stuff was sturdy and built to last!
I just heard from a guy in Germany who said they don't ship over 😢 I'm so sorry - I should've checked this before I made the video, but I forgot to! I'm going to need to do an episode on another more global brand that offers a wide range of good basics...
'Twas o'er 20 yrs ago that I told myself I could make Bean my only clothier perhaps for the rest of my stay going forward, but unfortunately, this did neigh come t' pass for several reasons, the foremost being that they changed the fit and the fabric of some items and discontinued plenty of key ones. I may have mentioned this before elsewhere. I'm sure I could elaborate on several tangents from here, too.
Also, when they stopped honoring the LIFETIME GUARANTEE, I could no longer just buy stuff as willy-nilly and I don't know how much I believe that cover story about the returns en masse.
Yes, they are trying to cater too much t' hipsters w' stuff that doesn't come in tradish fits that I would prefer the pattern t' some the other things made in the more classic way, but most companies are neigh so generous w' sizing anymore but less honest about the switch?
Well you make some good points here for sure! I mean, having worked in design myself, I do have to say that balancing new ideas, innovation and keeping business merchandisers satisfied is no easy task! It always seems like if a new idea is brought out, it has to be sure not to alientate long time customers, and then if its a hit, then the business heads want to tweak the manufacturing to maximize the profit margins - so I try to have some patience when brands evolve over time...And with a brand with this much heritage, its almost impossible to continually offer the same product for over a century, untouched! But yea, I do agree with you, there were probably periods in Bean's history where they were unmatched in terms of customer service and quality of product - but then again, it was probably either buying from them, Sears, JCPenny 's, or Filson or something, so it IS kinda nice to have an abundance of choice these days!
I would love to see some kinda LL Bean capsule wardrobe write-up

Great video as always. I look forward to all you do. Keep up the good work.
Aw jeez - that's such a really nice compliment, bud! I'm just so grateful to have such a great group on here! I'm glad you're enjoying!

Finally and happy to see your new video! Great one as usual. Hope to see an episode about tweed sport jackets, cheers! Keep up the good work!

Awesome video! Really displayed the wide range of this historic brand

Oh that's so great to hear - that honestly keeps me enjoying every minute of making these things when I hear y'all are enjoying 'em! 🤩

You sir, are cooking. Excellent video.
👨🏻🍳 Hey thanks, man! I really appreciate that!

ure legitimately a channel that is very stylish and informative. I wish you great success and prosperity here. please keep it up!
Another great video Joseph. Keep up the good work.
Keeping up with the spirit of this video, you should consider a "rugged Ivy"/"Heavy Duty Ivy" video!
Thank you.
You got it bud! Appreciate you stopping by!
Your stuff is quite excellent. Nice taste!!!
Thanks, my man! Always happy to mix it up and get high end looks with all price points! Appreciate you checking out the video!
Another great one 🎉
Sweet - thank you kindly! Glad you're enjoying!

@ yea maybe they changed that, but a few years ago when i started getting interested in them that definitely wasnt the case :)
Nice..very nice
Awesome! Glad to hear you enjoyed, bud!
I’m not as familiar with LL Bean, as I should be because I grew up in the southwest. Now I know I need some of the items you mentioned 🎉
Yea, to be honest, I grew up in Texas - so sometimes i might've gotten an LL Bean shirt for Christmas or something, but I never realized that on the East Coast, this brand is a solid staple. Great video, love LL Bean and this is good advice on how make it more edgy and fassion forward, bravo

LL Bean was an iconic brand selling American made products, sadly, their boots today, are about the only product they sell, still made in America.
Yeah - and I think the tote bags too...but this is kind of a reality of all clothing manufacturing at this kind of scale. @SomeNotesonStyle I usually look for pre-owned. I worked in mens clothing for a number of years(1977-87), knowing what to look for helps.
Is LLBean clothing also sold in Europe? Thanks for another great video!!

Is there a way to post the links for each item?
Yesssss....let me look into this. This is a great idea!
