Your video gives me hope, I’m a confused student halfway through my third year getting a BS in psych, and I don’t really know what I need to do next. I pray and hope I can make my dreams come true and become a doctor, and hopefully i can create a good work ethic. @TREmBLInG I don't know where the person ended up going to college, but in some cases a masters degrees classes might transfer over to the psyd or phd.
Can you do a video about psy d debt and how you plan on paying it off? This is the only thing that shy me away from psy d versus getting a PhD in clinical psychology because of the debt.
I’ve been seeing this question pop up more on my videos. I’ve been busy with work and classes, but I think I might make a video soon on this. You can defer some of the loans until you find a job. In other words, you won’t be asked to make any payments until you can prove employment.
I am working on my BA for psychology and soon about to graduate. I am also looking forward to PsyD programs but so worried about the debt, and also quick question in how many years do you start paying your college loan. It is usually after you graduate because it will be hard to work and do your PsyD at the same time and even if you work it will not cover anything.

Hi, I just completed my MBA and currently I’ve increased my interest in psychology I was thinking if I could directly enroll for Psy.d program? As a person with no psychology background is it possible? Plz advice!!
You need a background in psychology from what I’ve seen. But some programs have leveling classes. Meaning you will have to take additional classes on top of the normal classes offered. This usually puts you behind a year.
To be honest it’s a bit expensive in my opinion. I think it’s mainly because it’s a private university though. It also depends on your circumstances and financial situation. There is always loans, financial aid, and opportunities for scholarships. To give you an idea of what I pay: I pay around 8,500 per semester (that’s with aid/with no loans). Again this will very. You can also do payment plans. Hope this helps ☺️
Hello, I'm a B.A student currently and I will be applying for PsyD for the fall of 23'. I had a question is the process same for PsyD as it is for Ph.D for writing mails to potential afvisors?
Hi Stuti 😊. I’m not sure if I understand your question. Are you asking if the application process is the same? And what do you mean by writing to advisors?
Hi! thanks so much for sharing your story. Was your MA in counseling psychology? I'm currently in my MA counseling psych program seeking licensure as an MFT or LPCC, leaning towards MFT. My question is if a Master's in counseling psych leads to a PsyD. Thanks again!
Hi! Yes! Your counseling psych background will be a great fit for most PsyD programs. I’d say most would be fine with a MS or MA in any psych related degree. On paper, I got my MS in psychology but it was really a counseling psych program with a concentration in marriage and family therapy.
@Leo Scaletta, I am completing my Masters this year. I had few queries, Please consider this a request. How do I connect with you personally? Won't take much of your time. Thanks in Advance!
Yes! However, I can’t remember which credits will transfer 😅. You can always call our department and ask them which credits will transfer but I know a lot do if you’re coming from a psych background.
I changed my major this year to MS psychology and transferred to the University of Phoenix. I decided after the MS Psychology is completed to pursue a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. online.
Yeah! the majority of the time the program requires you to have a masters in a related field. If your coming from a masters, typically some of your classes will be able to transfer over and won’t have to take as many “leveling” classes. Hope that helps 😊🤟🏽
You actually do NOT need a masters degree. If your undergrad GPA was strong, along with good gre scores, and experience, you can apply straight to a clinical psy.d and phd program. The only time you should consider a master’s degree first, is if your undergrad grades sucked. Otherwise, you are wasting your time and money.

Good question 🤔. I probably would have worked in a group private practice setting. But you could work in many different areas with an MA/MSC. You could teach at the undergrad level, work at an agency seeing clients, nonprofits, behavioral centers and hospitals settings, sometimes UCCs, and private practice settings. What you do there depends on what setting you work in. You might be in charge of case notes, running groups, swing individuals cts, case management, etc. Hope that helps 🤟🏽
No. It just so happens that most have a “clinical psych” background . There should be more awareness that any corner of psych can apply to a PsyD program.
