- Hi, everyone! Here are my top 5 do's and don'ts of applying to psychology phd programs. Obviously I always have to put in the disclaimer that all of this is put together with my own experience and opinions! I share in the hopes of helping people who may be on this journey or who may be interested. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt, of course :)
🌱about me:
I am a korean-american mental health professional making videos on youtube on my weekends! I love spending time with my cats, drinking iced oat lattes & reading in the park on sunny days.
🌱faqs:
- my education: bachelors degree in psychology and masters degree in social work
- my ethnicity: korean (born in korea, moved to the states when I was six years old)
- why do I use lowercase titles: why not? heh
🌱business & collabs contact: psychdarling.co@gmail.com
Not ready to do a PhD yet, but you made me realize that I want to do psychology rather than computer science. I also come from an Asian/Korean background and did CS to appease my parents and the status associated with it. I felt like I did it for other people, instead of for my values and God. I'm really happy I came across this video and your UA-cam channel. I've always had that desire to major in psychology but didn't do it because people around shut me down. But now I realize that I only have one life to live and I should do it for my own aspirations rather than be miserable in CS because I want others' approval.
☺️💕 SO HELPFUL!
Have been watching your videos and was going to ask for this video then I saw that you already made one lol as a social worker interested in a psych doctorate these videos are extremely informative
Everyone always talks about how difficult it is to be accepted into a psych PhD, with that being said do you think someone would have a higher chance of getting accepted if they get a master's first or try to go into the workforce for a while? I don't have horrible grades but I have the average GPA (3.5) for acceptance to the schools I've looked at, some W's, and no research experience. I made the decision to pursue psych later in college so I feel like I don't stand a chance now.
Is there a notion template you could share please!
Do you think that it’s very vital to have high grades in psychology to get into master and PHD? Eventually become a psychologist
Do you have student loans?
Good question. So many of us want to do good in the world. But it costs to be "somebody"
