fraternities take phones from brothers and pledges at the door so that no one can video or take pictures of what goes on at the parties. He would've needed to ask for his phone back from whomever was holding them and considering what all the other brothers were saying I doubt they would've given him his phone.
I do not know what I would have done at that age. I know at 57 I would have found a way to get help but this young man is not 57. When we were this age would we have not listened to the other guys and gone to get help? I like to think so but how do we know what we would have done in this situation. It is sad that these college campuses are to this point and young people ignorant enough to sit back and allow someone to die in front of them but here we are.
I think it was more than alcohol, most likely drugs. My daughter goes to University and got offered it as a freshman. Let’s not play dumb and think that drugs aren’t involved. My ex was a “frat boy” at WVU and told me about the copious amounts of alcohol and piles of drugs. As if it’s just a “don’t get caught” only thing. It’s gross!
Yeah this is such a stupid story. "We should have called 911"...yeah well then fucking call emergency services. He didn't do a goddamn thing. This was blatant murder
This year I listened to friends from high school come back and tell me stories about being forced to do wall sits and stay up through the whole night. Eat burritos full of anything older brother wanted to put in there. And even sit in a cage while every other person in the fraternity pissed on them. Is all of that worth being a "brother"?
The guy that said they should have called the cops... should have called the cops himself. All he did was advice but didn't act himself. He's guilty in my eyes

Yah You ! I think they were all high and didn't want to call 911 until 12 hours later when they came down The frat Brothers were trying to cover up their drinking and crack smoking

These aren't men.. I work in a college these so call adults are still kids. The trash and crap all over campus they leave behind tells the story of how these children aren't rdy to be on there own. Colleges need to put more strict rules on how things are run. Alot of these colleges don't even have someone in the building to regulate what goes on after hours. The building are left empty with students doing what they want. Something needs to happened.
He was so worried and shook that he decided to leave the kid unconscious and unresponsive without any notification of police or medical services? How is that considered ok and why hasn’t he been charged as well? Isn’t there a “Good Samaritan law” that says if you can but choose to do nothing you can be held liable as well? He literally could have made an “anonymous” call if he was worried about retribution. Am I wrong here?
When I was a pledge a brother threw bleach over all of the 14 pledges who were doing push-ups....it stopped the activity flat all burned bad, showers for all immediately. They acted accordingly despite this one deranged brothers actions. I hope he reads this 20 years later! Of course he's still a loser.
Kordel also went on college speaking tours, profiting off Tim's death!!!! Kordel is just as responsible. Why did he NOT call 9/11?!?!?! or report it to authorities?!??!?!!!!
This guy should also be explaining himself in court along with those lads....I doubt he has no ability to call 911 himself, he house could have stepped out of the frat house and called.
This is a systemic problem that have gone since the beginning of time. Let's be real, everyone knows that this goes on, everyone just turns a blind eye because not enough people die from these incidences or the people in high places are being affected. I believe that a part of the reason why this story is getting so much attention is because this incident took place at "Penn State" a "prestigious university" and not Timbuktu University and that is also the sad part.
Sounds like he's trying to cover his own ass, not "giving advice". " I did everything I could to have them call 911." Sorry, why didn't YOU call the police? This dude is NOT the good guy. He's guilty of depraved indifference and should be in prison.
I can’t speak for all fraternity members but this isn’t how you become a real man. A real man is making good decisions and when in need help each other. Have good human code of ethics. These students failed miserably. Rip young men who die in these hazing incidents. Not fair at all.
This lack of action proves we our raising degenerative little socialpaths who gladly step on and over to what they perceive as their rightful social position. Same thing just going to bar but do not have to go thru the humiliation! God Bless n may His peace be with this and all families that have had to endure this type of things!
Fraternities and Sororities need depleted. There is no reason to have them. The benefit they bring to any school could be brought by something much more positive, more healthy, and more.
I think this guy believed his frat brothers hype but in this case he should have followed his instincts. He will have to live with his decision for the rest of his life.
Do not call each other a brother!A real brother would never let this happen to him...what absolute idiots!Close frats down...end of story...too many kids dying!
Ugh this makes me sick. Seems like part of the problem is that these kids know the hazing rituals are dangerous and wrong, so when someone is seriously injured they don't immediately call for help. But like, do they think people just miraculously recover from serious injuries without medical intervention? They clearly don't seem to care about the pledges, but even from a selfish standpoint, why wouldn't you get them help as soon as possible? Just seems like some of these organizations are full of people that think they're entitled to everything and can get away with anything.
For all those blaming the guy who told them to call the cops… you all do realize he was being hazed too right? Even if he left the room there were probably other frat brothers in the house that would have stopped him from leaving and he was probably in fear of his own life after what he just witness. He could have also been afraid that he would be killed during the cover up. People do some crazy things, unthinkable things when their backs are against the wall. It’s easy to say “if it were me, I would have”
I was in a frat for a year. It was alright, but I ended up leaving that college. We wernt really hazed or nothing like that and the pledgeship wasn't that bad but I just felt they try to mold you into like everyone else. You gotta wear the same shoes, the same shorts, same shirts and they give you shit if you don't. I made some good friends, but after I left I found out most those guys were fake friends. Didn't hear anything from me and only tried to get in touch with me when they wanted to see if they could get money out of me. Hey fraternities are for some ppl. But it wasn't for me
I have been to college recently, in frat houses and around fraternity members. It is actually pretty common practice not to help those who have drank too much. I have seen people drink so much that they blacked-out mid-chug and hit the floor. Nobody around would help, but instead laugh and make fun of the person who "couldn't hold their alcohol." Often times these people were just left alone until they sobered up. Even if that meant the drunk person who was passed out was laying in the middle of the room. It was common practice (where I was) to just leave them, laugh at them, and make jokes about how weak they were. I don't drink but would still attend the parties because of friends and what I witnessed was pretty shocking. One time I was so worried about a random guy's well-being after passing out that I begged strangers to help me lift him up to move him to a more comfortable area like a couch instead of the kitchen floor. You would have thought I was asking people to give me their first born child. Here is a view from my perspective --> None of the frat boys from Penn State wanted Timothy Piazza to pass away that night. From my own experience, I would say that none of the frat boys even realized at the time how bad Timothy's condition was. They probably didn't expect that time to be any different from all the other times when students got too intoxicated, blacked out, etc. I would say this is the reason they did not feel the need to involve authorities. They were expecting Timothy to eventually just sober up and deal with his own "boo boos" from the night, as many other students have done before him. Over time the frat boys came to a realization that Timothy was actually seriously injured and out of fear of punishment they made the poor decision to ignore it, and probably with hopes Timothy, like the many before him, would make it through with a crazy hazing story to tell. I feel like the majority of the responsibility should fall on Timothy and not the frat boys. I don't think the futures of those frat boys should be in shambles because Timothy's desire to fit in was so strong that he drank more than he could handle. The frat boys should have called the authorities, but I can understand why they didn't at the same time. The real issue we should be examining is drinking in fraternities & college house parties. None of the frat boys from Penn state involved with Timothy's death are murderers, they are just really, really STUPID college-aged men. That is my take anyways, I could be way off.
Timothy was coerced. Essentially forced. People pretend these kids have choices but when you're young & want to fit in, surrounded by people- seemingly with authority- they feel forced to do it. The psychology on hazing is very clear that these people are taken advantage of. Many people, myself included, have consumed waaay too much alcohol without truly understanding the risks of being so drunk you've lost control of your bodily functions and aren't responsive. That's the whole problem. We need kids to understand that drinking large amounts of very concentrated alcohol (liquor over beer) in a short amount of time isn't something that defines "will power" and "strength". It's biology & chemistry. The macho culture of drinking a lot and being able to "handle your liquor" is dangerous and needs to be the first thing to change. Stop associating binge drinking with being cool or elite, it's just problematic? Second thing is to get these kids to really understand how different amounts of alcohol with different alcohol % affects them & when someone loses control of faculties, it's time to call 911.
Sounds like a women that slapped a friend because her son broken her Jaw. Insane! My heart goes out to this family and any who lose a beloved. Had they just got him to the hospital they could have assess the cranial bleed. Between the alcohol & head injury. Very sorry for all these people’s pain!
So if he was watching children being molested or a woman gang raped and he wanted to call 911 but others wouldn't let him, he wouldn't be able to call 911. -------- Does he own a Cell Phone? ------- Does he know how to use a Cell Phone? ------ Did they tie him up for 12 hours? ------ Could he have stepped outside and used a cell phone or asked someone to call 911 who owns a cell phone? ------ Could he have walked to the Security office on campus and ask them to call 911? ----- Could he have walked to a business and asked them to call 911? ------ This guy is a hero, please give him a medal.
If u truly think something is not right act fast don't depend on someone else because what if they don't care. This guy, he said he tried but why no call for help appeared. You're not saying this because u feel guilty and wanted to cover up. RIP young man!!
So let me get this straight, the kid not charged said he was the only one who helped. NOT TRUE! He said the others made him leave, yeah so what stopped him from calling 911??? No one was holding a gun to his head. Sickening
Fraternities, in and of themselves, should be outlawed. Way too many kids end up dying because they want to belong to one. Others end up feeling useless or unloved.....unwanted.
Cordell, could've left the scene immediately pulled his FN phone out and call 911. He's on GMA with his sad story but he didn't go far enough. That's what you're supposed to do is leave the area and call 911 NOT sit there and look like a loser because a bunch of your friends are having a good time and you didn't want to spoil it for them.
Did they put a gun to his head and kept him from a phone or from leaving for 12hours? He's a lier! He's just as guilty but he's afraid to face criminal charges. You can see the guilt on his face it's so obvious he's lying. He did absolutely nothing to help for 12 hours! He could've left, I doubt they were watching him the whole night. He chose to stay there and watch him die. He could've saved a life instead of saying I wanted to call 911! He could've snuck out and made any excuse to get to a phone in private but he didn't because he truly did not care. He needs to be in prison just like the rest of them murderers.
I wish someone called 911 when I had 55 pills in my system and left on the floor all night in the year of 2010. Innocents happen, we don't know the true intentions of the other men. This young man should of been aware of how much intake of alcohol he was consuming. All other parties are not responsible!
Grown ass man wasn’t smart enough to know when to stop drinking. Who’s fault is that? What you expect from a frat? A sensitive emotional conversation? Maybe they can get some money now by suing the alcohol manufacturer ? How many times did you call for help after getting wasted with your drinking buddies or even when you’re sober ?
fraternity should just be straight out banned. no where else in the world would you let immature idiots in charge of a organization in a higher learning organization.
How f*cking hard is it, with just about every human being on the planet having a cellphone in their hands, to take intiative and CALL 911 on your own? If you're being threatened, step out of the room or leave the house and get on your damn phone and CALL 9-1-1!! Step up...become an adult...and try and save another human being's life!! What a bunch of damn idiots. Their lives are ruined and this poor young man is dead and gone...
Yea. I think the ‘only one who stood up’ is exaggeration. He didn’t stand up to other guys. He didn’t do anything about it. He is just as guilty as the rest of them. He just likes to point finger at others to make himself look better

M. S. I get your story and all but when someone falls drunk down a flight of stairs that should have been a BIG, BIG RED FLAG regardless!!!
That guy isnt innocent either. He could have called 911 when nobody was around him. Maybe he was afraid of being kicked out of the faternity.
If my five-year old son ever decides to pledge one day, I might disown him. He can't put me into that kind of heartache.
The intent of covering it up was very much there.
These fraternities are the future upper class of the US, it is very disturbing that their group psychology and rituals are so destructive and hostile.
Crazy that their pledge of oath to keep the things they do under the rug is almost in all instances, kept! Why are we still breeding herd mentality?!?
So if he was watching children being molested or a woman gang raped and
he wanted to call 911 but others wouldn't let him, he wouldn't be able
to call 911.
--------
Does he own a Cell Phone?
-------
Does he know how to use a Cell Phone?
------
Did they tie him up for 12 hours?
------
Could he have stepped outside and used a cell phone or asked someone to call 911 who owns a cell phone?
------
Could he have walked to the Security office on campus and ask them to call 911?
-----
Could he have walked to a business and asked them to call 911?

This guy is a hero, please give him a medal.
This is crazy! This is murder! This is bs complete bs! I don't care about intent or not they need to pay for this junk!
Sickening
If Kordel tried to leave, would he be alive today...or would he too have had...an accident?
Fraternities, in and of themselves, should be outlawed. Way too many kids end up dying because they want to belong to one. Others end up feeling useless or unloved.....unwanted.
Did that kid call police tho?
This kid couldn't go and call in secret even if he was scared of retaliation he could've called! I don't believe him.
Ehhhh
Something is missing from the story definitely
... I bet they were getting high and didn't want to call 911
Not one of them would last 5 mins in the Marines..clowns
Maybe if it was not illegal for them to be drinking then someone would have reported it sooner and this young man would be alive
The guy done nothing to help, none of them did, my god.....
Why didn't this guy call?
I am proud of the one who did plead guilty
That's not Hazing...that's literal torture, especially that stuff on the end JEEZ!
Charging these guys w manslaughter is what they need to do when this happens in fraternity’s this needs to stop
For what is the summary of thr lawsuit?
That poor boys blood alcohol level was that high... I am just sick.
Oh yeah, blame the one kid with a conscious
My question is why Didn't call 911???
This could be another Netflix hit like 13 Reasons Why!
#JustSaying 🙄
Jay Kay burning sands on Netflix already a film about it
Sensei Sunshine and that movie is very sad
@@shonsingletary7350 Still to this day I can never finish that movie
Grown ass man wasn’t smart enough to know when to stop drinking. Who’s fault is that? What you expect from a frat? A sensitive emotional conversation? Maybe they can get some money now by suing the alcohol manufacturer ? How many times did you call for help after getting wasted with your drinking buddies or even when you’re sober ?
Has anyone ever met 19yo drunk frat boys? They are not going to do the right thing 99% of the time. So tragic
Trust me I would be in Jail if someone did this to my child and didn't help cause I would them down , so wrong on every level , smh
It's not always somebody else's fault. His decision to drink and join a fraternity.
That does not excuse the actions of the frat brothers. Why is there the hazing activity in the first place?
wth why didn't they take him to a hospital sooner?! what were they thinking?!
Gvantsa
About another hit
fraternity should just be straight out banned. no where else in the world would you let immature idiots in charge of a organization in a higher learning organization.
Not sure why the one kid didn't call 911 himself? Just bc they told him not to? He could have still called!
nothing stopped him from calling police. He didn't want to be on the bad side of the group.
This kind is just as much as responsible as the rest of them. he should have left the the house and got help if really truely cared.
Yea. I think the ‘only one who stood up’ is exaggeration. He didn’t stand up to other guys. He didn’t do anything about it. He is just as guilty as the rest of them. He just likes to point finger at others to make himself look better
5 years ago...
Idaho shows that the culture didn’t change.
I hope everyone who did this kid wrong burns in fucking hell !! RIP young man.
I heartily endorse this natural selection. Fraternities forever!
because they were worried about saving their own asses I hope they all get life in prison
