I’m a brain injury nurse in the uk and work in a unit where we see acquired brain injury all the time through drugs and alcohol - these patients need round the clock care in the form of medications and feed through a peg - risk of seizures and limb contractures - bed sores and chest infections well as double incontinence!!!!!! I don’t think this young man will get any better; he has no life and will continue to deteriorate!!!!! They bought him back but the “quality” of his life is so poor I don’t think he would want to live like that!!!!!

All life has inherent value and it is not up to us to terminate life before its natural end. This was his fate. If you’re a student of science, then you must believe that methods of care and tech will progress to a better level where his quality of life can improve in the 21st Century. His life is no less valuable because he is disabled.
The first thing I think about when it comes to a frat is hazing, abuse, and general awful things. I think this is portrayed enough in the media to understand that this could happen. I would never let my child anywhere near a fraternity or sorority.
Everytime I think of his name I cry because he was about to have a good life just like his older siblings. And although he maybe unable to walk, talk, or see, it doesn't mean all hope is lost within his family because miracles do happen.
I look back on my days as a freshman at university and realize how stupid we all were for drinking so much. Nobody should put their body through that. Wish the best for this kid and his family.
I was in the ER one time with a BAC of .480. A little higher than Danny’s. Fortunately, I was taken to the ER in time. Alcohol is so dangerous when consumed in large amounts. Early treatment is what saves lives. I wish Danny could have been as fortunate as I was.
something similar happened to me in early 2020 when I went to a nightclub with a friend who then left me alone and I couldn't stop drinking and then collapsed dead on the floor, next thing I know I'm in a hospital bed with no visible bruises or physical injuries but with a breathing mask on my face, I'm just lucky to be alive.
Sorry, I'm just trying to understand how.. Going clubbing with a friend-who you apparently failed to inform was expected to babysit you, to protect you from? The bartender?? So due to this friend's act of horrible gross negligence when leaving you, an adult, "alone" with yourself, in a nightclub.. you "couldn't stop drinking" to the point of blacking out.. & to you, that is somehow a similar experience to the tragic loss of this young man's life?
Of all the students involved in this travesty, WHY is there only ONE person who got ANY jail time at all??? This is totally disgusting. Every one of them should be required to visit Danny at least once a year for the next 10 years and see what they caused.
It's sad, he's young. But honestly it was his discussion as well. I'm close to his age, i wouldn't have want to be part of those frats. Actions have consciences, my parents taught me that. He doesn't deserve it, not saying that at all, but he had the power to say no. God bless him tho.
Agreed... the boys who initiated the hazing were irresponsible (to say the least), and the boys who participated did so of their own free will... just a bunch of bad choices all around. Tragic.
Hazing is so disgusting. A student at my old college died from hazing where he was forced to drink *sewer water.* I admit to being unpopular and whatever, but I'll never get to the point of being subjected to THIS. Poor guy.
they all lawyered up & had nothing to do with danny as soon as his parents got involved. they ruined his life & im sure they all portray it differently.
And this is why alcohol is the worst poison of them all. Also, I’m not surprised that a bunch of kids didn’t call 911 first thing they’re young probably stupid drunk as well. Thinking that he’ll just sleep it off and I’ll wake up better.
Drunk people don't have common sense. The journalist said "no one knows how much time have passed", the time is right there, on the top left of the screen. It is very unfortunate for what happened to Danny, but I don't think anyone is to blame, they didn't force him to drink.
I mean no disrespect to anyone, but could these accidents have something to do with the american alcohol policy (alcohol consuming not permitted until 21)? In my country, kids at twelve-thirteen sometimes drink alcohol and occasionally get drunk. Not that it's okay or acceptable, but at least it keeps these accidents from happening. I have never heard of such hazing accidents elsewhere than the US.
Fraternities are kinda like drug cartels, they’re organizations dedicated to providing an illegal product. If we lower the drinking age to 18, we can end this.
I very much agree. A few years ago there was such a death at my old university (where I was 40 years ago). In those days we could drink at 18, and while many people over-indulged, I don't remember anything as extreme as this. It was in the late 1980s that the age went to 21 nationwide. Drinking was nothing serious in my family. I can't remember when I first drank alcohol, I must have been 6 or 7. Very little, it was perhaps twice a year, but it was no big deal. I did over-indulge at my sister's wedding when I was 13. The result was that alcohol held no allure for me. When I got to university my drinking was quite moderate, which it remains today. American puritanism makes people think that they can control something by making laws against it. They approach so many things like that. . . don't teach about sex and teenage kids won't get pregnant, ban abortion and it will go away. Moderation is something so many Americans can't grasp.
@Dee Santer They can’t legally drink. They can’t legally smoke, or chew. But, they’re allowed to VOTE. Liberal logic for political control of the country.
1. Know YOUR PERSONAL limits. It's not anyone's fault but his own for drinking that much. 2. Parents teach your child the acceptable dos and don'ts. My parents told me never accept unopened drinks. Never leave my drink unattended. Take it to the restroom if need be. 3. Dude should have been a leader instead of a follower.
do not be tone deaf. the older members of the frat forced the newbies into it by making threats & blackmailing them. they made up false criteria & lied to their new house members- lets also not forget how after danny was passed out, these house “leaders” made the decision to pick him up & continuously dropped him on his head as if it was funny. how are they going to fumble his body around like a rag doll & not even call for campus aid? its not just his fault.

Every high school senior and their parents should watch this video...and Danny wasn't even the first to be hazed to death, or nearly so.
