Two of the producers on TNG suggested this to him. Apparently opening night the theatre was about 2 thirds full. By the end of the week they were queuing round the block to get in.

Data's sense of smell is also extensively enhanced, he should have smelled Twain that second time (especially during that era of American hygene) at least minimally before the damning discussion arose. Also, Data would have known Guianan's species language and easily communicated that way to wholly prevent this kind of conundrum. To Twain, he would have presumed it as some African dialect. These two episodes makes things interesting for the TNG crew. Now, if they did the season 2 Picard series a bit like this episode it would have went better because that Guinan would have remembered the crew especially Picard from this episode.

I had missed the various references to the allurians (sp?)across the different shows. I remember the guy on deep space nine being referred to by Odo as a allaurian or listener, then Dr Soren referring to it as the nickname of his race. It's clearly an important word as Guinan says outright that she's not done "listening"
it may make sense to drive story forward, but it does not make any sense that data would not understand One of the most basic laws of time travel. "Don't talk about things that haven't happened yet" .
An alien race that is from the Delta Quadrant and most likely travelled the stars for millenia will teach such stuff even their school kids. And before you ask, why the Borg were able to overcome them: they fought, that was also the reason Guinan was in the Delta Quadrant in the 23rd century, but lost.

The way Guinan blended into Earth society for so many centuries, makes me wonder if in real life there are aliens blending into Earth society today. I mean given the number of planets in the Milky Way galaxy alone, the math is in favor of life beyond Earth and if so, some of them could have the ability to blend into our society and study us without us ever knowing.
While I'm sure there is intelligent like out there in the universe, I'm also sure that any life forms intelligent enough to travel the stars, is also smart enough to want nothing to do with us, at least not directly.
