This is actually a bit of a bro move by Martok. He could've just cloaked past DS9 like he had done through all of Federation space and attacked Cardassia. By stopping there he was letting the Federation know something big was about to happen so that they could react to it. Otherwise the first news the Federation would've gotten about the war probably would've been when the Klingons occupied Cardassia itself. It was also a well thought out bro move too. Changeling toilet seat - First off, they never show toilets in Star Trek, and secondly changing back from being one would scare the crap out of anyone 😊
they dont show them because theres no story reason to show a toilet, but on ship schematics each of the general quarters have one, it just pops out of the wall, just like the shower in the spot where you see the sink and mirror.
What is funny (and definitely accurate) in DS9 is how all of the major Alpha Quadrant powers freak out about the Dominion. Only the Federation, kind of, keeps a level head (although Admiral Layton's 2 arc episode even hurts that). Cardassian and Romulans team up to wipe out Founder Home World, Klingons try to Conquer Cardassia, Federation tries to setup a police state. Kind of crazy.
DS9 was definetly not my fave Star Trek show, but it had some of my favourite characters. Odo, Garak, Quark. All excellent, unusually grey characters for Star Trek!
I love how odo literally finds out what and who he is a couple days prior and he’s already talking like he knows his people like the back of his hand lol

@@SagaciousNihilist That would require an even greater actor then, as that would mean he had to act like his character was not having fun, while his character was having fun, while he himself was feeling tortured.
The great thing about modern sci-fi is that they no longer go with that idea from 1950s sci fi that everyone in the future has one outfit (usually a monocolor jumpsuit) but everyone is free to dress as individuals and choose their own wardrobe. It looks more natural and it's really a great thing that adds texture and feel to the look of a show like this. Watched this video. Let's all go with the monocolor jumpsuit.

There was one problem with the drill and Odo's assertion that 3hrs 27min was too long to catch him as an actual Changeling could do so much damage in that time. The issue is that Odo spent the time actively trying to evade capture before himself catching Bashir unawares (because the sweeps would have cornered him anyway at that point). All that time running around wouldn't leave any for the Changeling to do the damage Odo is warning about. The very act of actively sweeping the station would keep the Changeling on the move and far less able to carry out whatever their mission was.
True. Not that Odo didn't have good reason to push for better performance, but it's hard to do something when you're busy running away and hiding all the time. They could improve that training by having some notional objectives Do needed to perform that the defenders didn't know about. Like, setup a fake warp core that can be notionally overloaded, have a VIP nearby at the same time, have a cloaked (or notionally cloaked) ship nearby full of boarders pretending to be Jem'Hadar that need a secure airlock to attack from (or shields to drop, or something), etc. Their training was a good start, but not what it could've been.
Some weren't so bad. Most of the stuff Jake wore isn't anything worse than a modern day hipster. Trade the turtlenecks for flannel and bingo. A lot of times, it wasn't the outfit itself that was hideous, it was the choice of material. Either way too heavy for the cut or just plain ugly.
Then you've never heard of being trained in multiple disciplines.. military people do it , especially Rangers, Seals and MARSOC etc.. as well as NYPD Emergency services. and yes.. even Astronauts.. engineers train as medics and snipers as EOD experts..
You know, the Klingon Fleet does not need to cloak while passing in Federation space. The Khitomer peace accord between the Federation and Klingon Empire has stated that they can freely pass each other space

Buy it by all means. TOS and DS9, along with post-Seven-rescue is real Star Trek, TNG gets too creepy with guys preying on Deanna, Tasha, and Luxawana and no butt-kicking in return. Q is a pill that needs punching (The Sisko delivers that!) and you get some real romance with TOS, DS9, and VOY. Picard and Discovery are too woke and anyone who says TOS women are weak just because they let the guys protect them doesn't seem to notice how harmoniously both sexes seem to get along. Just an opinion from an old soul. Fun, action, family, sci-fi aplenty, and classic storytelling abound in DS9. Do buy it and enjoy it!
Definitely worth the buy, especially if you liked B5. There are very similar, to the point where it is widely believed that Trek copied much of B5's basic story, but with a far better budget.

Even if they can change shape presumably they would still weigh the same. So I would think it would be hard to walk around with a 150 pound comm badge attached to your chest.
I loved Martok's insights on marriage.
@Samuel L. Jackson agreed
@@Makeyourselfbig That makes for an interesting mental image.

Quark is a secret genius. He suspected the Klingons were up to something before anyone else.
Rule #7: Keep your ears open.
Information is Quark’s best defense.

I remember here in UK Sky were almost a year ahead of BBC2 for DS9 episodes, a friend of mine came into school raving about this episode and I was so annoyed. There was no bigger Trek fan in our year than me but we didn't have Sky 😢
Miles, you don't just get up and ask the Klingons what they're up to. Not unless you have a death wish.
Warf, go ask them what they're up to
@@jlinkous05 And that's pretty much what they ended up doing. :P
To bo honest, Klingons are usually respectful, they don't hurt allies.
Miles is an experienced officer, he fought at the Battle of Setlik 3, with valour.
And yet that's totally O'Brien. He goes there. Literally.
That such a large Klingon fleet can be unnoticed just outside, it was time to upgrade those sensors, even if they were cloaked
Changeling toilet seat - First off, they never show toilets in Star Trek, and secondly changing back from being one would scare the crap out of anyone 😊
Very witty, you made me laugh till tears streamed down my eyes. T'pol might infer that I am easily amused.....but, hell, that was extremely funny!
Data Daedalus so your a dumbfuck sheep thanks humanity for creating people that are so dumb they think all kinds of shit is funny
they dont show them because theres no story reason to show a toilet, but on ship schematics each of the general quarters have one, it just pops out of the wall, just like the shower in the spot where you see the sink and mirror.
Especially if it waited until you shit in it first.
he probably turned into kira's toilet seat on more than one occasion..
In both of the attacks you mention, changeling infiltrators were the #1 or #2 leaders of the attack. So not exactly left to their own devices.
"Schedule another surprise drill." I hope that was an intentional joke by the writers.
Even with a surprise drill, the person doing the surprising would have to schedule it lol but it does sound wrong.
DS9 was definetly not my fave Star Trek show, but it had some of my favourite characters.
Odo, Garak, Quark. All excellent, unusually grey characters for Star Trek!
Thank you so much. My DVR cut off part 1. Now I'm back on trek.
I love klingons and their vessels! :-)

I love how odo literally finds out what and who he is a couple days prior and he’s already talking like he knows his people like the back of his hand lol
I gotta watch this show over again.
"... check your team leaders for the schedule." Like, they don't have digital calendars in deep space?
When you have to meet in person, the chance of information being intercepted by hostile entities goes down.
You'd be surprised how easily such information could fall into enemy hands. During WWII, a surprising amount of information was passed by runners since they didn't fully trust their communication lines.
Everyone check their Palm pilot. Yea, those'll still be around in the 24th century, right?

Odo's stoic demeanor belied the fact that he was having a lot of fun messing with the DS9 crew.
It must take a great actor to make it look like they're not having fun while also looking like they're secretly having fun
@@theredscourge ...with that amount of latex in your face. René was a great actor.
Perfectly in character for his acting Style. Before he was Odo, don't forget he was Clayton Endicott III on Benson...
@@theredscourge Having fun? Wearing that mask was torture for Rene, which he would channel to fuel the bitterness/anger of the Odo character.

1:45 - Odo is basically describing the gameplay of the game "Prey" where the shapeshifting aliens (or you after acquiring their powers) can disguise themselves as a coffee mug, toilet paper, trash can, chair, etc.
Star Trek was so great for so long. The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Babylon 5. I thought they'd still be cranking out shows Gene Roddenberry would love until long after I was gone. Alas.
Roddenberry would have hated DS9. I love the show and it is my favorite of the Trek shows, but it is very far from Roddenberry's vision.
I like how Quark likes to mess with Odo. Quark knows Odo won't actually do it and Odo knows Quark knows this too.
O'brien's enthusiasm during the drill is hilarious.
1:20 or so: once Bashir realizes he's too late, everything about Odo's face says, "A little too slow, are we, Doctor?" :D
3:20 Lots of Klingons, yes. Hopefully not too many for a station of DS9's size...

Why have both the CO and XO together in a training scenario? Both are huge targets for the enemy.
I agree it doesn't make sense

Igor Wojtyna obvious, yet foolishly applied by Starfleet and the Bajoran military.
Howard Pearcey no wonder why Starfleet did so bad during the Dominion War. They didn’t treat training scenarios as the real thing.
Starfleet not Star... FFS man.
I had seen `Way of the Warrior' the first week of season 4 on a Sunday night. Two hours of Klingons, Cardassians, explosions and a very unsettled Quark.
3:20 that's a pretty tight formation for a bunch of cloaked ships to have.
Why? Each Klingon ship knows where each other Klingon ship is.

When are we going to see DS9 in HD?
i think it was said at one point that the original medium that ds9 was shot on makes an HD re-release impossible

"Bang! You're dead!"
I have no idea why, but that line always gets me giggling.
"I don't want them to know we're on to them!" Quark shouts out in the middle of the bar while surrounded by Klingons.
Always wondered if O'Briens "Bang, you're dead" was an ad lib that Rene Auberjonois just rolled with it like the professional he is.
The opening to my favorite Star Trek episode, after Balance of Terror, Journey to Babel, and the Romulan Incident!
I was confused that scanners would not still detect them as a life form?
Star trek: war and depression 9 God this series wore on me after awhile
2:48 what hideous civilian clothes the Federation had
Bell bottoms ,suit worn with sneakers, over sized watches 50 mm and larger , all much worse fashion abominations😊
I think Sisko's clothes here were African inspired. Most other civvies were much uglier.
Oh the good old days when Star Trek was still cool.
Damn I love Odo! I love his sternness
He first thought that was just one ship's crew was coming over for shore leave and say ok then dozens of them de-cloak.
Sisko: "Damn, even with replicators there is no way we have enough liquor..."
Lmao!🤣 This ipening confused me for a moment thinking it was misplaced in sequence: until they said "changling is headed for the promenade!"😅

ahh yes. DS9. When the station's doctor has tactical command of security teams.
Then you've never heard of being trained in multiple disciplines.. military people do it , especially Rangers, Seals and MARSOC etc.. as well as NYPD Emergency services. and yes.. even Astronauts.. engineers train as medics and snipers as EOD experts..
@@robertravena xD lmao
You know, the Klingon Fleet does not need to cloak while passing in Federation space. The Khitomer peace accord between the Federation and Klingon Empire has stated that they can freely pass each other space
Yea but a fleet of ships in that size would be a little over the top to freely go into your ally's space. I would think it's an invasion force.
When Sisko first shaved his head, I thought he looked like Gordon from "Sesame Street".
You must not have seen Avery Brooks as Hawk on Spenser for Hire.
DS9's running Security drills...
Where is "Starfleet Security" chief Eddington anyway?
He had prominent screentime in the season 3 finale...
...he's apparently "on leave" when his staff is running security exercises.
Eddington was, for a time, suspected of being a Changeling. It was a Red Herring, and the reveal was that Eddington was part of the Marqui.
@Janoha17
That was cleared up with Bashir being discovered trapped in a room near the mess hall.
The episode that introduced Martok with two eyes.
0:49 - This is why reflexes are important people.
Time to upgrade the station with sweeping widening scanner s that cover the entire station instead of going random room by room a full station scanning system would cut the finding time hero 3. 28 minets to 30 minets
We have a way too easy nowadays lol I had to wait an entire summer to finish watching the continuation of this episode
Klingons must be bad for business. I imagine they'd start a lot of fights, and Quark can't embezzle them because their strict code of honor would have them escalate.
On the other hand they drink a whole lot.
And apparently pay a premium to use the holosuites.
Imagine if Klingons came and said, "take me to your dance floors"
1:38. How do you schedule a surprise drill? Surely the whole "surprise" thing negates any "scheduling"...
I am very very tempted to buy this series. I never watched the whole thing when it was on TV. It reminds me a lot of Babylon 5, which I loved.

To be fair... O'brien should have seen out what quark saw as well.
