Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters, proving that Disney is committed to popping out Star Wars movie after Star Wars movie. The movie follows Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, Qi’Ra and more characters as they go on a bunch of heists and fly around in the Millenium Falcon. But how exactly did this movie come to be? Why did they have to give an origin to everything Han Solo has ever done? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all. It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Even funnier, the reason Maul sparks up his Lightsaber and waves it around is because the test audience didn't recognise him.
Simon Fox really?!?
@@ilikepigeons6101 Sadly so. To be fair test audiences are random people off the street, so likely not fans who remember a 20 year old film let alone watch the animated shows.
Simon Fox even if the audience has SW fans who remember TPM they'd still be confused since Maul gets killed at the end of TPM.
@@hbdragon88 he reappears as in the Clone Wars as being still alive but with robot legs, and continues through Rebels which is where Obi Wan finally kills him. Both shows are official Canon.
Simon Fox right. I'm just saying it's extremely likely that the average fan (only watching the SW movies) would be confused and not know that Darth Maul survived TPM. You would have to have watched the TV show to know.

I love this
He learned it in the empire
Solo in legends: An ancient noble house with an illustrious history dating all the way back to the golden age of the republic. Han has an extended family including the infamous Thrackan Sal-Solo, a much less idealistic criminal who still managed to seize power on Corellia multiple times through guile.
Solo in Disney: “You don’t have a last name or family?”
“No.”
“Lol, you’re Solo now.”
Total hacks. No respect for the source material or the audience.
That and cramming most of his backstory, plus some, annoyed me. Other than that, it was a good (stand alone) movie.
That line would have worked if Han had said it being a smart ass. But making the guy taking names do it just didn't make any sense.
@@harrymills2770 It's been established for a while that Disney wasn't going to abide strictly by Legends, and honestly, it seems more interesting that Han comes from nothing rather than being part of a legendary family.
What is/was legends? As a casual fan i've never heard of it.
I wish this series were on a separate channel so I could subscribe, I really can't stand the rest of Screen Rant's content.

@@Welpme69 Not the most creative idea, but Han just basically said he wanted Chewbacca to have a nickname because his name was too long. That's why nicknames were thought of in the first place! That line wasn't even needed!
At least that would have been somewhat unexpected. "Chewbacca's too long so I'm gonna shorten it to Chewie," We all pretty much got that from the originals.

You know what would've been cool? Have Han and Qi'ra stand near a Wookiee friend at Lady Proxima's. Or maybe make Han make a joke about her being more ornery than his Wookiee nanny. Something to establish that he had access to Wookiees and the Wookiee language before running into Chewbacca.
Like how Rey, being a orphan on a desert planet in the boonies, knows droid and Wookiee languages because the writer said so.
In places of high linguistic diversity, even when there’s a major lingua franca, people learn three, four, or even more languages. You need to learn the local language, the regional language, the national language, plus English, and maybe French or Arabic.
The thing is, they usually only learn the languages that they actually use. Most people can’t afford a language course, or textbook, so they have to learn the hard way. So while it is believable that Han is a polyglot, it’s ridiculous that he knew wookiee.

The saddest part of this is that there is an original trilogy of books that detail Han's early life, that are so much better. It shows how he knows the Wookie language, how he gets in with Lando, how he knows about the Rebellion, the Kessel Run, and it even has Boba Fett and Jabba. It's an amazingly well told story that, if adapted into a script and given a few tweaks for style points, would have been a really engaging story. Sad that they didn't use this material; They let a goldmine go to waste.
i love those books so much and 20% of them could have made a better film then this nonsense
Yes, of course the books are better, almost always the case. But see, studio execs don't like books, they like big blockbuster movies which ruin the history and mystery of a franchise in the name of hopefully making big bucks for their big, fat wallets and heads. They are as out of touch as can be.

These conversations seem so natural because Ryan's editing the visual to switch slightly before the audio ends or starts causing it to bleed into the next scene for a very split second. It's subtle but makes a huge difference compared to when amateurs attempt these sort of "conversations" between the same actors.

Also this editing is T I G H T

I find the psychology of Ryan's editing technique to be even more impressive. I believe what's happening is that your frontal lobe knows damn well that he's playing both characters but there's a part of your brain (location: ?) that doesn't and only believes things upon sensory data. This is the area of your mind that Ryan's toying with. If for even a split second the sound of a voice is being heard while your eyes are looking at another person on-screen who's not saying it, your brain with conclude that there are 2 people conversing. It's subtle but brilliant, mix that with Ryan's sense of humor and wit... and presto! You have *Screen Rant's* best series. =)
