YA movies were all the rage in the early 2010s, but a strange thing happened where those young adults… aged? It seems like the even younger adults did not share the same enthusiasm for the genre, and nothing made that clearer than the drop-off that was seen in the Divergent series.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent definitely raises some questions. Like how is Tris so good at hair styling? How did the bad guys get that magic technology in the past 5 days? How do any conspiracies exist when truth serum is a thing? How does Janine lose when she’s mind-controlling an entire faction?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to The Divergent Series: Insurgent!

You should pitch that to the Wayans Bros... This joke would have been relevant 20 years ago.

I just found out Ryan’s a dad through a random UA-cam comment. Oh Wowwow wow….wow
That works!
Wow wow wow
Wow Wow Wow... Wow
I will never watch these movies, but I will watch these pitch meetings multiple times.
Yeah if theirs a movie that I don’t feel like watching or i can’t see it cuz I’m to young for rated R I either watch a pitch meeting or watch someone react to it.
Same here! The Divergent series looks far too stupid to be worth watching.
binge rewatches of few houndred episodes are tight
This is the way
Same here. I can’t invest 2 hours in bad movies but I always have time for a Pitch Meeting.
Setting up that it was NOT a place holder line with the lip synced cut is some efficient comedy, especially since NOBODY saw this movie. Just fantastic work.
yeah eh! that bit was a noticeably well crafted, and executed! I stopped and replayed it 5 or 6 times before letting the video continue lol
I love how Screenwriter Guy slowly loses all confidence in himself during the course of the pitch.

When the Pitch Meetings are better than the actual movies!
I kind of don't even listen to the plot. Just here for the producer guy and writer guy jokes.
Making the Pitch Meetings more entertaining than the actual movies is super easy, barely an inconvenience!
What do you mean, “when”?
So… like every time, then
Gee dang it!
Once again, congratulations on becoming a father, Mr. George!
Impregnation was super easy, barely an inconvenience...
Condolences, you mean...
Was it producer guy or screenwriter guy who became a father?
@@rickstaismMr. George.
@@rickstaism lol!
Producer guy seems like he’s especially into this series. He’s really laying down the lore.
He's become better at his job after all, proud of him
So here’s a thought for something slightly different. (Divergent, if you will)
What about a spinoff series where the pitches are rejected. You could pitch movies like the final Divergent film, Amazing Spider-Man 3, Superman Lives, stuff like that. Movies we know a lot about but that ultimately never got made
I love that idea!
Oh yeah, love that! Good idea
Yes! And the Fantastic Beasts films! 🙌🏼🙏🏼🩷
As a side note the one movie, I really want him to do that hasn't come out yet is Rust. No, it has not been cancelled, and no I don't think it would pay to wait for the movie to come out. If necessary, Ryan can do a follow up meeting after the film's released, but I think it would be best to have something come out right before Baldwin's trial.
The Worst Spider-Man Movie You’ve Never Heard Of?
@4:20. The annoyed tone and furrowed brow of “how does that help the war??” Feels like a subtle break in character where we see Ryans frustration watching the movie initially hahah

with youtube algorithm, super easy, *barley* an inconvenience
Yeah, it's super easy. Barely an inconvenience.
Yeah yeah yeah!
This raises an important question: is The Hunger Games the only Dystopian YA series adapted into movies that *doesn't* have a "this is actually all just a huge experiment for some reason" reveal?
I dont think The Giver has that, but it does a little bit in the movie. The movie kind of has the vibes of that happening, but it never does i think.
Which other ones have that?
@@evankraabel5415Pretty sure at least _The Maze Runner_ series, also covered on this channel, falls into the "this is a nonsensical test" trope. I wouldn't be surprised if more YA stuff did too, but even as young adult I never liked that genre, so....
@@MusicoftheDamnedIts lazy writing, since every inconsistency can be looped back to "It wasnt real!" - its only slightly beter than "it was a dream all along". The better YA books dont have that, but they are not necessarily made into a movie. (Enders Game has that though, but that was probably the original).
@@impeeratorii Agreed about it being lazy writing. YA gets a bad rap, but it's really not helped by the fact that it seems like only the most shallow YA novels become mainstream popular and then get adapted into often even more shallow movies. I'm not sure if Hollywood just really love dystopian YA stuff or if that's really consistently popular for some reason or if they just happen to be the YA stuff that's a series most often, meaning that it's easier for Hollywood to milk such IPs.
It sure feels like some combination thereof though, especially when the only YA Hollywood series adaptation I can think of off the top of my head that *isn't* (intentionally) dystopian is the even worse written _Twilight_ series. (Funnily enough that too has its own "it was only a dream" equivalent. Thanks for barely spicing up a boring book & movie, Alice.)
"So it turns out those little metal thingies are also mind control devices."
"Sure, sure. Why not!?"
Huh, who’d have thought letting the murderous bad guy live at the end of the last movie would result in more people dying? Well, I really enjoyed this pitch meeting, as I usually do, and I’m looking forward to seeing the pitch meeting for the third and final film in the Divergent quadrilogy.
Someone else said it was going to be called Detergent.
I was surprised Producer guy didnt question Triss' sudden shift from the end of the last movie "No I wont kill her" to the start of this movie only a few days later "We need to go kill her"
Apparently, that's WG's fault. Looking it up, that part of the scene in the last movie wasn't in the book, bad guy wasn't in the room so Tris never had the chance to stupidly 'let her live'. Hence WG creating a plot hole with this movie w/ Tris starting out as "we should kill her".
This movie sounds like having a lot of nonsensical stuff too, so I'm curious (not really) how many of those scene's were WG just throwing in a fight or something just to add in some action even if it didn't make any sense.
I love how you mastered the "third and final film of the quadrilogy". On point. I tip my hat to you.
Hey look I watched the previous Pitch Meeting and even I don't remember what happened in that movie
So, Triss is not only special but super special? Imagine if we had actually got the second part to the film finale where it was revealed she was the literal Messiah.
Biznatch Haderach, or whatever...
It's not enough to be the Chosen One anymore. You need to be the Chosen Chosen One
But the super special Messiah, like the first *_and_* second coming combined.
She was super special awesome
Wait, what? That's a thing in the movie we never got?
You MUST do ‘Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver’ next, I’ve decided.
oh man i didn't last 5 minutes on that one, jeez louize i LOVE scifi, i'll tolerate ANY horrible scifi but... no this... the simple farming life trope just ejected me face first. LEMME EXPLAIN SUPERPHOSPHATE TO YOU, SNYDER, YOU INSUFFERABLE BANANA.
@@bradleyhiggs3824 Like surely there’s some other town somewhere than can sell them a quantity of grain that the crew of one ship will consume in a few weeks.
@@bradleyhiggs3824 I've found it to be a pretty fun hate-watch. It's not exactly a "so bad its good" movie like Troll 2 or The Room, but it has some other special quality that I just absolutely love (to hate.)
I can't wait for the other 4 movies he has planned for it, lol
What was particularly amazing for me is the first movie got shredded for being a rip off of a bunch of other movies. Part 2 though? It literally is a carbon copy of the first movie. It ripped itself off. The plot barely progresses a single inch further than part 1 despite being 2 hours of content. All they do is add in some meaningless background story about what happened to the princess (that in no way effects anything in this movie) and finally have the robot fight (although, he fights nearly just as much as he did in the first movie, so even that's not new.)
And while this new one doesn't have them go on the quest to recruit each and every hero of the superteam (that never interacts with one another.) This movie still has the audacity to hit us with a 'montage' of their origin stories (all while not interacting with one another. Seriously. It's absurd. Like one dude tells a story about how the empire murdered his entire squad to punish him. And without acknowledging dude's agony with a single word or body gesture, the next hero in line immediately launches into their 2-minute sales pitch for an entirely different product.) So it basically re-tells us the whole "team assembly" story line that the first movie gave us. All so that they can then have the same exact fight that the first movie told us would happen. (And did happen already, just in an 'unexpected' location)
Can't wait for part 3!
I took a deep breath in and was like.......alright any second now, then i open my eyes to see Ryan staring right at me
"Haha, going with a penis is tight!" I love Producer Guy's hilarious sense of humour! 😂

It's actually a reference to a funny scene in the film Hector and The Search for Hapiness.

"Fortress, if you will?" "I will not." "That's fair enough." Screenwriter guy totally has a crush on Producer guy.
I still have no clue what what that part meant. I listened to it 3 times and it still makes no sense.
@@ceno10101 The ship between the main character Tris (short for Beatrice) and the character Four, could be named "Fortress" (as in Four-Tris). Some may find that cute, and so screenwriter guy suggests this ship-name to producer guy. Producer guy, however, thinks it's kind of silly, and thus will not refer to said ship as "Fortress".
(or bug pokemon)
I thought in one of the videos one of them said they were cousins? But in others theyve had crushes on each other so idk. Pitch Meeting lore is confusing as someone whose watched every single one.

For all I can remembered of any of it, Insurgent could have been a sequel to the Maze Runner.
I thought it would have been so cool if, in that final Mockingjay Games movie, the big epic "Quarter-Quell" death match had taken place in a Maze, with a bunch of Divergents and Runners . . . being chased by sensitive sparkly vampires --
-- who are, in turn, fleeing from mobs of British schoolchildren waving wands and shouting in mangled Latin!
