Well, i grew up on 3rd street and in highland manor, got out of monessen in 03, i have bought a couple properties for rental units, and it's almost impossible to find tenants, or tenants who actually pay rent and don't trash the places, managed to sell one of the rentals to the tenant, and the other one is a roller coaster. At least i tried helping out the city.

I see some fantastic real estate there in Monessen but am very hesitant due to the crime rate and other factors. Not sure what is going on there now but will continue to keep my eyes out for more updated information on the town.
I lived in monessen for almost five years from 2001 to 2006 and had two kids there and i worked for mon river towing in Speers PA. We moved back to my home town of Daytona beach so our kids would have a futur and it looks like we made the right desision.
Lived in Monessen while I was going to school there. Worked at Wal-Mart while was there. I wish I could of done more to help out that town. Charleroi was alright as well. Hope they survive

I visited Monessen for the first time in January 1994 for a three week vacation. I know,there are much more nicer places in the US than Monessen to spend a vacation,especially after a blizzard..lol But, because i live in Essen,Germany,the City wich Monessen is named after.I choosed Monessen for my firts trip to the USA.I made good friends in Monessen and its surrounding towns.So i returned in August 1994 for a three months stay.And how the story goes,i returned to visit Monessen five more times after 1994. At my first visit in 94,downtown Monessen had the impression of a ghost town already. And from visit to visit i've seen more houses being demolished ,buisnesses shut down which were open a visit before,and a lot of decay in general going on in my beloved second home town. It broke my heart,and still does when i hear from my friends about the dying of that town.I really hope that i will make it back someday to visit my beloved Essen with the Mon again.I miss my friends and the good times i`ve had there...especially at the B`n `S and at the Slovak Home...loool Best regards from Essen,Germany
Doesn’t really matter much who runs the town. That town’s best days are way behind it. Like a lot of the Mon Valley most of the young people moved out for better places. Now mostly what’s left are the elderly and the young people that moved out will never move back there.
This is not a new story. In fact its a story that plays out in most of America. Take a look at North Hills marching band and compare it to Monessen marching band. These schools are only about 25 miles apart?
Monessen needs someone who can bring industry back to town. In the last year, a new steel mill opened in Canonsburg, while Monessen leadership was asleep.
Grow up! Do you really think anyone wants to breathe the air from the mill? Monessen currently has a coke plant that shoots fire out of its main smokestack.
@@denniscostabile4264 since CC reopened that pos, the dust level and dirt around has increased massively. It was so nice when they had that outdated plant was shut down.
