    CHECK VALVE CROWN SOLUTION:
    If anyone on here is having issue with the crown removal try this.
    Step 1: After removing the cap, spring and ball, remove all the oil using a section tube or twisted paper towel from the drain.
    Step 2: place the old ball back in and heat the ball and crown for approximately 1 min. This should provide enough heat for the metal to expand and release from the block.
    Step 3: Use a modified pick to remove collar and replace with new one.
    I wouldn’t risk it with the chisel method and just using a pick with no heat does not work.
    Best of luck and hope this helps someone. Don’t light your truck on fire. 😅

      Its difficult to diagnose when its not in front of a guy That being said I would doubt its in specs High egt's is screaming a massive air to fuel issue check for exhaust leaks from the heads all the way through the turbo system hot and cold, heck Ive seen air to airs damaged by mechanics pulling motors Ive seen incorrect piston rings or installed wrong check the turbo impeller make sure the injectors are hooked up, it will run on 6 or 7 cylinders and seem just fine Try these idea's

    I appreciate your videos a lot. I have a major oil leak in the top rear (passenger side) of my 2001 Ford 7.3. I don't see any leaks around the oil lines coming from the HPOP or from the HPOP itself. I tried replacing the oil rail end plug close to the turbo downpipe, but I didn't have enough lead in my arse to get it out. The only video on YT that I've found showing that job also has it already loose. If you ever do a job replacing that, please film it.

Got new 238/100 injectors to drop in. New alternator, starter, batteries, HPOP lines, IPR, ICP, EBP Sensor. Besides the extended crank i can feel an injector missing for a few minutes after startup until i get on the pedal and build pressure. Fugure its the injector seal going.

    Is this the preferred way to also empty the HPOP reserve tank instead of sucking oil out of inspection port at the top? I may be one who still wants to change it out but wanted to avoid sucking it out if I could simply allow it to drain into pan and then reinstall the ball and spring. Do i then need to take top of reserve tank off to refill, or use inspection port to refill? Seems inspection port is going to be messed with no matter what. Thank you.

    On my 03 7.3 I have an intermittent leak which is on the front driver side pretty much pools up about the size of a quarter between the hpop and icp. When I'm looking at the puddle with the truck still running it seems to dry up and lose its shine. I'm going crazy. Figured it was a hpop gasket since all plugs and lines are dry and I can't see under there hpop. But a buddy told me could be this relief valve. What do you think? I don't want to remove the hpop at all. Maybe I get a drop or 2 after a drive which lands in the center of my front diff or dual steering stabalizer mounting plate at the center of the truck.

    99 7.3. long crank while icp builds, engine starts after icp hits 500-600psi, pressure climbs to 1.5k-2k psi. after 15-20 seconds pressure starts to drop rapidly and engine stalls when pressure drops to ~600psi. Does this sound like a symptom of the drain back valve? I'm not at the vehicle to check, trying to get a plan together.

I unscrewed the plug took out the spring and ball. And I also took the crown out. Put everything new but the thing is I can't screw it back on with all the new things. I wanted to know could it be that the crown has to go bit more down? Or is it suppose to be this hard to screw back on? The plug sits right but don't want to screw. The issue I am having right now is I can’t not get the truck to start. I had filled the reservoir with oil and it started to leak from where the oil filter goes (since the oil filter was not installed at the time ) , I paid no attention to it. But now I’ve notice that I have no oil in the reservoir, I refilled it and when I crank the motor it basically all disappears . Any ideas ? I’m also thinking maybe I have the wrong hpop gasket since their are two versions, I have a 95 ford obs

      Community Verified icon
      high pressure oil can be lost at the injector oil seal this can be verified by air pressure of 120psi at the oil rail inlet caps, like where the icp is located You can remove the plug and hold a air line gun with a rubber end to get a tight seal and listen for a air leak at each injector

      So I’m at a lost and I was wondering if you could maybe send me in the right direction. This motor was completely rebuilt. I have low oil pressure at the hpop reservoir causing my dash gauge to bounce once truck is at normal operating temperature. I installed a oil gauge at the oil filter housing and it reads 45psi cold and 7 psi at idle and at normal operating temp. I re-pulled the engine and install a new pickup tube, LPOP, timing cover, oil cooler and replaced both ends on it. I don’t know where else to look other then this pressure relief valve that was reused after engine was rebuilt. The machine shop rebuilt the heads with new injectors cups, installed rebuilt injectors, balance crank, new pistons, cam and all bearings. Anything I’m missing? I’m at a slot on where else to look. The engine is back in and it still has the same pressure after replacing everything. Thanks!

      Hello Clint Allen, enjoy your info, have a 2002 7.3L with 173K, have replaced ball, spring and cleaned down to the crown but if it sits for 5 to 7 days is hard to start, any longer and have to top off the HPOP reservoir. What is the best way to remove and replace what I am going to call is the seat that the ball seats on and prevents the oil draining back down? Noticed FF-vn9pm above referring to it as the crown and using the chisel method. Can you explain the best and safest way to remove the crown (seat) and how to place the new seat down into the drain/fill hole in order to get it straight and seated so the ball can close it off. I thank you for your time and information. I am new to communicating on the forums so I'll just sign off as Sidewinder!!

    So I’ve got a 1995 F250 with The 7.3 in it which it has the different style high pressure oil pump 96 and up have a different style than what I have in my high pressure oil pump reservoir keeps draining. I put a new high pressure oil pump on it and it still does it any idea what it could be? It does not have the spring with the ball that the video shows I believe from everything I’ve read it is built into the pump but which I have a brand new pump in it and it still does it

    • @dieselsmiths
      @dieselsmiths 3 місяці тому

      All of the 7.3ldi engines have this ball, it is actually not for the purpose of anti-drainback, it is to ensure that lube oil is sent to the bearings before the high pressure oil system gets its oil. however the oil cooler-oil filter adapter does have an antidrainack valve as well as a oil filter bypass valve that will cause your concern as well as worn low pressure oil pump and/or housing.

    Is this on all years of 7.3 L? What are the other reasons the oil can drain, a worn out LPOP? How do you change out the crown. So many questions

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD
      @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD  2 роки тому +2

      The crown is removed by a narrow chisel hit in same spot break it then pull out with a hook pick then clean ridge in block tap new one on with a rod or pipe so it equally sets into the block ridge //// in rare cases if the lpop is shot and the spring on the pressure ball is worn from heat cycles oil can escape back to pan //// last possibilities the anti drain on the hpop is shot or the seal between the timing cover and block is leaking . These are the most common possibilities

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD
      @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD  2 роки тому

      @@olop2748 Yes You will need to remove the timing cover and no the ball cant fall past the crown I'm thinking the spring broke a tiny bit off and it jambed between the cast and ball and no there is no sleeve The bonus with the age of the motor new timing cover seals and sealant is in order and if you have the funds a new lpop and a oil cooler new seals and o rings

      not ideal but i got one out by using a larger hose and cranking the engine. the oil pressure pushed it out the hose caught it
      a peice of gasket from the rocker cover (glow plug+harness) or somthing had made it throght the pump and filter (cold day filter bypassed?) and jamed the ball
      over night the res would be drained for a few days i would fill the res hopping it would cut it loose no luck. pain in the but to get to without disassembly but it can be done

    Does that cause a hard to start condition when it’s been sitting for a few days?

    • @noahsheehan7824
      @noahsheehan7824 2 роки тому +1

      C N, yes this would cause a hard (delayed) start condition. It is an anti-siphon (drain back) check ball as stated in the video, and would cause oil to drain out of the HPOP reservoir when the motor is off. This wouldn't cause a no start condition, only a delayed start. Because, yes, the injectors won't fire until the injection oil pressure is reached. But instead of building oil pressure immediately upon cranking(reservoir has fluid), if the check ball leaks, now you have to wait for oil to be pumped up from the pan. Had this problem with my 94.5 F250.
