Wow! Was really interesting to see the change in Jim to how he is today. He's become spiritual in his own way and tries to better himself through his practice, but when I look at his older stuff now it shows that he's always been deeply self aware
I think from what I'm hearing is that comedy is very subjective. Some love it and some can't stand it, but neither is good nor bad, right or wrong it's just your feeling and opinion. I grew up with my dad being very 'silly' in his humour style so I think I gravitate towards the likes of Jim Carey, Billy Connelly, Richard Prior etc
I've always loved Jim Carreys art. I know he's been through a emotional rollercoaster when his wife passed away. I'm glad he's taking care of his mental health.

I saw Jim Carey's live stand up New Year's eve December 31st 1993 in Vancouver BC and he toyed with and then decimated a heckler who was one of a huge group of Hells Angels. At first, the Angels, in full leathers and seated in a large block of seats, were egging the heckler on...as Carey masterfully played him for the crowds delight...then within a few seconds, he turned the entire crowd (including the other Hells Angels & the head of the Chapter) against him...shaming him into sitting down & shutting up. It was an effortless show of Carey's intellect and social dominance over any one foolish enough to challenge him. I was, at the time, hugely pregnant with my first son and I laughed so hard I thought I would burst. It was a hilarious performance...and we caught him before his fame and movie career REALLY took off & he ceased doing stand up. One could swear he morphed his facial bones during his Clint Eastwood impersonation, and defied gravity as he aped being a marionette on strings (performing for the heckler) prior to dismissing him with a few choice words. He simply told the truth & said no one was interested in anything the heckler had to say...that everyone had come here to see HIM and be entertained...and Carey...in the space of a few seconds...turned everyone in the building against him. The energy in the venue turned in those seconds & the formerly loud and disruptive belligerent drunk was shamed into silence. His peers laughed at him possibly louder than the other audience members.

Jim Carey is one of those people who I can't tell if comedy is therapy or addiction.
That's the mastery of it. It's all deep deep pain
Yep comedy comes from deep pain and he has managed to use it for material
It's both. And a far better addiction than substances.
Its Comedy. Therapy is Therapy.
Wow, that's a great comment, nicely and succinctly put. Makes one wonder; I'd guess a bit of both?!
His shirt, his haircut, everything about this is 90s AF.
