Thank you! Hello how can I make a brand new anki deck like a new file that does not interfere with the other decks. It is just that I am worried that predecks interfere with mine. I mean how to separate your anki decks on a new file
Thank you so much for your videos on Anki. I am an adult student currently and wasn’t that good of a student when I was a kid. I think I brought a lot of old bad habits with me when I decided to go back to school so learning has been a learning process for me. Especially because I am not very well organized, which is why I am trying Anki. I have watched all your videos and I only really have a couple of questions. I will mainly be using Anki to study Linear Algebra. If you’re familiar with the subject then you know it consists of a lot of : theorems, definitions, proofs ...etc, that have to be proven, or shown to be true or shown to be false. These proofs and answers must be explained using properties, proofs, definitions and such specific to Linear Algebra. I know your prefer to ask a short question and give a short answer on your cards but some of these proofs and properties can be a page long. Can you recommend a format for Anki cards that applies to a subject like Linear Algebra where the content is theory heavy? Also, do you tag the cards you create or just the ones that you snag elsewhere? Love your videos, thanx for your time in advance.
First! The video was really helpful! I have a deck in which I put several pre-made decks like you do... But because my internet connection is slow, and there's no space in my phone to sync all the "deck bank", I made another profile in which i put the pre-made decks, and then I export the cards that I need to my main profile. But there's an add-on that works on 2.0 that allows you to search for cards from another profile.
Thank you so much for this series! Would you consider doing a video on the anki settings you use (if they're different to the default settings)? Many thanks
Hi! this was really helpful. At first I started just unsuspending cards that were relevant to class. But what I have noticed is that when I review the main zanki deck, it gives me cards in order of the subdecks listed underneath. This was really frustrating to me because I wanted to see the cards in random order e.g. not all from cardio first and then renal. So I decided to just make a "Master" deck like you did and move cards over from zanki. I purposely did not want to add subdecks to my "master deck" for this reason. I will definitely try using hierarchical tags. Thank you! Med students need to see this video because sometimes it is so confusing reading online forums and they get intimidated.
Please, please, please share this video. It would mean a lot to me, but also, between you and me, we know that literally ALL students would benefit from this.
I think you're doing it right! Anki manual recommends having everything in 1 or few decks, using either tags or additional fields to structure information, see: apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#manydecks. To reap the most benefits from Spaced Repetition you want to randomize the order of cards as much as possible, otherwise, you end up subconsciously using irrelevant information (like card order) as context cues, and your memories don't strengthen as much. It's called “interleaving”. But if you're interested, Anki 2.0 indeed pulls cards in the order of subdecks. Anki 2.1 solves this problem by introducing so-called V2 scheduler, you can read more about it here: anki.tenderapp.com/kb/anki-ecosystem/experiment-scheduling-changes-in-anki-21. However, you still need to opt-in to start using it! You can find it in Tools→Preferences…, but read the link carefully, because it advises you to back up your decks. Also, I'm not sure if AnkiDroid supports V2, so if you're using Anki on an Android phone, you should probably wait it out and follow github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/issues/4905.
I was just rewatching this video, you should look into batch editor if you don't already have it! It could let you add the powerpoint screenshot to all those cards at once as opposed to having to paste it in each extra box.
Thanks for the how to Anki videos! I'm about to start my first year of med school and never really used Anki cards before. Do you usually make these during lecture or after lecture (at another time)? Or do you just take regular outline/notes during lecture?
Is it necessary to tag the cards from pre-made deck? You have created extra card by tagging as same cards will be added to your deck and they stay in tag section as well. Why not add them directly by selecting from Zanki?
Thank you for this!!! I loved the hierarchical tagging part because I'd never heard about that. Once again, your video has been super helpful! #channelgold
Also, did you use Zanki for biochemistry as well? I'm in our GI block and trying to find the appropriate biochemistry cards has been a little bit of a challenge
@@arnavi4966 instead of downloading Zanki. Download the Anking v7/v2 deck. Go to the r/medicalschoolanki subreddit and you'll find the the link in the comments.
Hi Prerak! Thanks for your brillant video. I've a question: which Anki deck would you use if you had only 3 months to prepare the test? I know Zanki takes 8-12 months more or less. Basically I'm using FA 2019. Thanks!
Awesome video! I have a quick question. In earlier videos, you have said that you prefer to use cloze deletions for question/answer format cards. Is there a reason you prefer that over basic flash card format? Thanks!
Not really. Cloze is just nicer since I can add notes at the bottom, but not that different from front/back. CLoze also is faster for making multiple cards from one card.
Hello! I'd like o know if is it possible to create a new deck copying cards from another deck, a preexisting deck without removing the cards from this deck?
Seems like A LOT OF WORK for one little concept. The opportunity cost of doing this is absurd. Is there no way to get a deck that follows boards and behinds videos?
I'm just curious as to how you get around to doing cards for all your lectures. You said on one of your previous videos that you do sub decks for all your lectures for the classes you're taking, and that to me just screams that you're making possibly hundreds of cards daily. How do you actually review all of them enough for your tests and stuff? That's my main gripe with Anki, medical school has way too much information and it's hard reviewing it all (the high yield stuff obviously). I'd appreciate anyone's take on this because this is what genuinely worries me the most about medical school.
Do you set a max interval for the time between cards? (eg. you can never have greater than a 3 month, 6 month, interval between cards?). And, do you ever worry about not seeing a card in a timely manner before STEP or other exams?
What happens when you move cards back into the Zanki deck from your master deck? I have a deck with a review schedule tailored to my schools exam schedule (max review is around 21 days), so when I finish with the cards for that exam, I was planning on moving them back into my Zanki deck that has a longer review schedule (max review is around 180 days) so that way I can keep up with the previous content, but its separate from the school deck so I can maintain a tighter schedule with the current content im learning in class. My question is: What happens to the review schedule of the cards when you switch them from one deck to another? Do they reset or do they adapt to the new deck?
Hey Prerak! Thank you so much for the enormously helpful videos. Is there a reason you prefer to include the source of the flashcard in the tag (e.g. #Zanki)? Seems like starting with something like #cardiology would make it easier to study that topic and isolate all relevant cards. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you for the tutorial! I have been dabbling in Zanki, but I never used it like this. Maybe I'll try something like this. I have a question, though: what if you have multiple lecture slides that pertain to a concept? Do you end up just choosing one to put onto Zanki or do you add all of them?

Is it ok if I install the hierarchical tag add-on after already having added the deck? Edit: Having watched more of the video, I now realize that the hierarchical tagging is not a Zanki thing but just something extra, so my question may not make sense.
