I'm 74 yrs old and I can't tell you guys how this video made me feel. It was almost like I was being restored myself. Thanks!!!! Blessings Always. Geno
I love that this car is getting another chance at life. Old vehicles no matter if it is Ford, GM, Chrysler ect just don't wanna stay dead. Even if they sit for 40+ years they are still ready to go sometimes. I also loved when your children were helping you out. Stuff like that makes me smile. I wouldn't lower the car. I think it looks great the way it is.
We’re glad to give it, it’s new chance at life! 😊 You’re right about that! I’m really glad you enjoyed. I think you’re right, it stays stock height! 😃 Thank you!!
I agree. Having the kids involved was cool. I have two boys 4 and 5 and I try to get them involved when I'm working on things. Gets them off the electronics and other junk. And hopefully they will be more into it when they get older.

As a 78 year old Black Vietnam War Veteran, this rebuild brings me back to the days in Fairfield SC when my great uncle would load up 6 of my brothers along with his wife and then drive us 12 miles to the very small town of Winnsboro S.C. The roominess and the comfortbiliry of the Pontiac will forever live in my memory. “ Thanks for the memories.” A Nam Vet!!
It's the most coolest thing in this world or universe that you're doing this with your children. Magic times like this don't really happen often. Sometimes only once.
My dad bought the same car in 53 when I started first grade. The familiar whine of the tranny as you accelerated through the gears brought back memories. That was the last car dad bought new until the 70’s when he bought another Pontiac. The car never gave us a problem. Dad kept it perfect.
Grandma had a Pontiac about that year. Rode like a yacht. Loved the chrome. Beautiful job. I think the boat kind of overpowers the look. Love that massive speaker in the middle of the dash! Thanks for saving it.
That's such an awesome car to own. Someday I'd love to broaden my horizons and own something old and cool like that. I don't think I've ever even seen a straight eight in person. I'm 39 and I've owned 68 cars since I was 14 including some older cars, but nothing older than my 1976 Buick Skylark sedan with an Olds 260 and a TH200 that made 110 HP. It would do 80 MPH eventually, but make no mistake, it was an absolute turd. I know that the straight eight wasn't much better, but I've always wanted to own an old Pontiac or Buick with one so I could tinker with it. I love to wrench and fabricate parts.
Even though it won't be restored it just doesn't need to, it's perfect as is, the surface rust gives it character and tells a story! She looks perfect as is! It's funny how you thought about swapping the Sedan Delivery ambulance body on this before!
I am really liking this project (1953 Pontiac). I was an engineer at Pontiac from 1970 to 1980 at the same buildings where this was built. I also love you taking the time to interact with your children. I have grand daughters the same age and they work all day, every day with their father on our farm. They will have serious skills while still in grade school. Yours may too.
I'd take the boat off and find a visor for the old girl. I personally love it, I have a thing for early 50's cars with the big rear fenders. Maybe one day I will have one.
I wished that Dad and I could have been able to have done something like this together as you seem to have so much fun and deliver such great results. Enjoy your uploads every time.
I'm a car enthusiast.... This are thrilling moments... Bringing back to life something that was nearly unsalvageable. Well done guys I'm hoping that one day I will have enough funds to do similar projects ☺️
I love that your daughters are spending time with you helping with the cars and learning. I used to help my dad the same way. I cannot tell you how valuable it has been knowing how to at least change a tire over my life to this point and now I’ve finally taken on my own project car.
What a killer car! Looks great but I’d suggest restoring the interior to original style. Those motors are so reliable; keep maintaining and running it and it’ll only get better. The boat looks cool on it as well. The segment with your babies was so sweet; you’ve got some mechanics in the making 😉.
It’s adorable that your girls want to help their daddy, just like like Derek’s boys from Vice Grip Garage plus more. I can see your girls following in your footsteps the way you took inspiration from your dad. My son learned his car interest from me, I’m not a mechanic but enjoyed helping a mechanic do certain easy tasks for a taxi company that I once drove for. I always checked tyres, fluids etc etc as I drove over 1000 miles a week and when I was doing these checks my 3 year old son used to come and watch me do these checks and was always asking “what does that do daddy?”, or “daddy, you didn’t check your lights ”! My daughter was less interested which is a pity because we were and still are best friends lol! Taught my son to drive and passed his driving test 6 weeks later. I did the same with my daughter but she wasn’t interested! Well done on your hard work bringing everyone with such interesting content, 3 generations working on cars is nice to see 👏👏
I love your videos and that you are involving your little girls! I am the youngest of four and only girl. My fondest memories from my childhood are from being out in the garage "helping" my Dad when he was wrenching on cars. You are planting seeds of antique/classic car fanatics for the next generation and THAT is awesome! Thank you for sharing your world with us here on UA-cam!!!
That’s the kind of car my Mama drove when I was little. Except ours was a convertible. Great ride to kindergarten! The only thing I didn’t like was the Indian head hood ornament- his eyes always followed me if I sat on the carport floor in front of the car!
My first car was a 39 Chevy with the 3 speed shift on the floor. Paid $40 for it in Eden, N C in 1957. So you know I'm sitting here watching every repair being done to the Pontiac. My aunt and uncle lived in Winston-Salem and they never owned anything but a Pontiac. Lots of good memories for this 81 year old.
Love this ol'Pontiac! I think it looks great the way it is, and I wouldn't change the ride height! The only thing I would do is eliminate that roof headliner! It kind of detracts from the over all look! Love all your videos!
The car looks pretty good with all the new chrome and the patina. You need to finish the "chromification" with the bumpers. It sure looks good on that country road!
Sir, this car is great ... It ran after this hibernation & I have to say it was made in USA with pride. Keep the patina looks, fix the interior & any mechanical issues. Don't lower the car it is awesome as it is. And my sincere greetings to your daughters.
My parents pwned a 1953 Chevrolet. They brought me ho,e from the maternity hospital in it in 1955. So much of that Pontiac is familiar to me. Thanks for rescuing it.
My great uncle was a Pontiac guy his whole life. His first car was a 53 Chieftain. He has pictures and the one thing he pointed out to me was, the trunk accent was shaped like shaped like the F4-U Corsair warplane that appealed to war vets from both WW2 and Korea alike. What an amazing find! The motor is worth the price of the car alone. Thanks for sharing this!
my father taught me at a young age how to fix vehicles, its great to see your children learning. they wouldn't learn unless they were shown. i fixed cars, did brakes, brake lines, now i fix atvs and side by sides. awesome job man. keep it up
Seeing these girls working on a car with their Dad reminds me of when I was a kid. Spent many hours out in the garage with him installing water pumps, changing alternators, and even swapping a 455 Oldsmobile engine into a Dodge pickup so he had a work truck/parts runner (and sleeper! 😁😁). Definitely subscribing to this channel!
So happy you made a pt 2 for this car. I have a 1954 star chief project that I got as a graduation gift with the same motor and basically the same everything else as yours except for the body and I found both parts super informative and entertaining and also most importantly inspiring me to keep working on it to finally get it running Keep saving the classics ❤️ from California
This brings back so many memories! I was born in 1951 and my dad acquired a '53 Chieftain 2-door from his late brother, my uncle. Just looking under the hood at that big old Straight Eight, the memories are just flooding back! Thanks for a terrific series on this great old beast! 👍😎

I love seeing your girls learning and playing with you and that old car. Trying to teach my kids the love of old cars with our ‘72 Jeep, this is priceless dad time.
Turned out awesome, I was waiting for Ward, June, Wally and the Beaver to jump out, love the Patina, seems to drive unbelievably nice for that old of a car, that was somebody’s baby, thanks for saving her.
brought back childhood memories when you pulled her out and then came driving by again. Totally awsome! The boat look fine up there, not everyone owned a wagon, lol.
When I was a teen looking forward to getting my license, my middle-aged schoool-teacher maiden aunt let me help her pick out her first car. The car we picked was this one, automatic shift, grey color. It was big and ugly and pompous on the road, exactly the car she needed. It is delightful that you've rescued this one.
Those were the best looking ancient drum brakes I’ve ever seen! I’ve replaced a lot of drum brakes on a lot newer vehicles than that and they are almost always completely cashed out with the cylinder bleeding to death. Cool old car 👍
Good job Dad! Way to teach the kids to work on cars. I do this regularly with my kids because my grandfather did it with me. Thanks again for the videos!
Noice car...and the girls did an awesome job. Always puts a smile on my face. Reminds me of when I was a kid, watching my Dad fixing my moped and bicycles. Y'all be safe. Rob, Cairns, Down Under
Great video. Reminds me of helping my father when I was young. He had a '52 Cadillac. I remember him asking me to give him a 9/16" box end wrench, etc. Thanks for the memories.
I had a identical car when i was in high school it was 9 years from new, I used to run it up to 70 mph in 2nd gear when racing my buddies won a lot of street light to street light races. It was a beautiful 100 dollar car !!
Boy does that bring back a lot of memories to me. My Aunt Merle back in the day, used to buy a new Pontiac every 2 or 3 years way back in the late 40s and early 50s. She owned "Sammon's Restraunt" in Hot Springs Arkansas, and would drive it out to San Diego to visit us every summer. My Dad's ride was an old '38 Oldsmobile 4 dr sedan with a 6 cyl engine. Gosh it was great when Aunt Merle would take us for a ride in her new Pontiac "Straight 8".
Good job fella's, i have enjoyed seeing the old Pontiac being fixed up and i love your enthusiasm with Dad helping out. I look forward to seeing more of this car progress in the future. Cheers from Australia.
What a cool old car! To think that these were the dime a dozen cars zipping down the highway. This was the era that it was a real treat to have a car. I had a 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery back in the 70s and loved it. Of course it got redone with a small block, 3 speed on the floor and a 57 posi rear axle. It was getting ready for paint and the night before a drunk woman in a Torino ended it's life. It protected me from serious harm but the loss was devastating. I have had many favorite cars since but I think that old Chevy is the one I miss the most. Funny, back then it was just another 20 year old used car worth nothing. Today it is a very rare car. It was nice to see the girls helping out, it will be something they remember for the rest of their lives. Cheers from just a few miles away in Gowensville! Terry
Many happy memories with my grandfather's 1952 similarly regal model of that fine car. I remember when he first bought it, he commented about how all the lights on the dashboard made him feel like he was piloting an airplane. Thanks for sharing your saga with us. I agree the boat would look better on a station wagon. Great work!
My first car was an old 52 Pontiac with a straight eight flat head. 3 speed automatic. We called it our mafia staff car. Loved that car . Great for the drive in theaters
Wow, memories. My dad had a 53. And when I was 4 I filled up the gas tank....wait for it.....with water, dirt and sand! He didn't find out till the next morning when he tried to go to work....lol.
Great job!! My mom had a two tone green '53 pontiac when I was a kid and we drove it from Texas to California several times. That thing would roll down the highway as smooth as glass. Had one of those swamp coolers hanging off the passenger window. Your restoration brought back some great memories.
Good to see you taking the time for your girls. My oldest didn’t care for greasy old cars but my youngest didn’t mind. Later she would teach her husband to change his oil. Darlington, South Carolina
Seeing a father spending time with the kids and teaching them stuff is just awesome..Blessings on you and your family..

Keep on keeping on Gene! 74 is mature! Not old ! 👊
You're 74 years "Young" man! Don't get old unless you do so disgracefully.

I'd take the boat off and find a visor for the old girl. I personally love it, I have a thing for early 50's cars with the big rear fenders. Maybe one day I will have one.
The boat adds nothing and neither would a visor or skirts. Lowering it would destroy it!
There is just something about anything vintage and all the stories they tell us. What great history, great luck with your project, love it.

Awesome video, I also have a rescued 53 Pontiac with the same paint issue. This one needs the outside sun visor.
When you first sprayed the car with water it looked so nice on the hood and I visualised how good it would look with a new paint job in a dark maroon.

No, chrome polish applied with 0000 grade steel wool pads, SOS & Brillo pads have soap in them.

Good job fella's, i have enjoyed seeing the old Pontiac being fixed up and i love your enthusiasm with Dad helping out. I look forward to seeing more of this car progress in the future. Cheers from Australia.
I have a boat in my back yard just like that. It was my Dad's, who got it from the Air Force.
I have a 52 4 door with the straight 8 rockin a single to dual no mufflers. Still super quiet
What a beauty! I so remember these old early 50's Pontiacs (I was born in 1951). A glass pack will make her rumble.
My dad was a Pontiac Man and I remember the straight 8 Pontiacs and Buicks. They had that distinct straight 8 sound.
What a great dad, these little girls have something money can't buy, 👍

Boat fits.. Looks amazing 👏 👊👊👊👊👊
