Anyway, what are your thoughts on the controller and also that protruding gimbal? Appreciate the new upward and portrait mode but some side protection could have been incorporated....🤔 Cheers, Ian
About the protrunding gimbal it is not a design falw. It is like that to allow the gimbal to tilt 60° up. It is a choice. Then yes it is more likelyto break if you crash. So don't crash. Great video as usual.
@@alessioaxelflorioadventure But it isn't "our choice" 😉 The new 60° upward tilt explains why the body doesn't overhang the gimbal, like on the Mini 2, but it doesn't explain why they haven't added gimbal protection elsewhere, like the sides. The sides only need to be a couple mm in front of the gimbal to provide protection - and this would not interfere with the image. I would much rather gimbal protection than upward tilt - but it would have been possible to have both.
@@LamboPhoto Yes very thuth, but perhaps doing as you say they would have gone over 249 grams. I don't know i think that if this would have been possible they would have done it or they made a small mistake, this is possible. I can live with that anyway.
The upward tilting camera is a massive upgrade but yes I too would be twitchy about hitting something head on. Yes I’d look at after market protection but this may well take it over weight so I would have to resort to my A2CofC and it’s limitations.

Very interesting about the gimbal protruding out the front...not seen anyone mention that so far, but then the advantage here is the honesty because you paid for it. The noise level of the drone is / was VERY impressive.

The tradeoff is that the camera can now point upward.

I would argue that it's quite rare to fly directly into a solid object (esp with forward collision avoidance). Most crashes are due to the props catching or arm hitting something, then falling to the ground. But the issue with the bottom gimbal joint makes sense. :) Thanks for the great review

Imagine this with Master aircrew props, always loved their props, even though they are pricey, they really know how to make the best props, got mine on the FPV, Air2s and the Mini 2.

Nice review! 👌After just started my fourth year as owner of my trusty Mavic 2 Pro, and not owning any other drone, the Mini 3 Pro is really the first drone I could consider replacing M2P. I like how it's built, the small and very portable size and all the functionality that is packed into it. 🙂
First off, the van looks awesome. Now down to business, good point on the gimbal, I agree it’s not going to survive even a mild hit. It was an excellent video as always 🌴 too bad you couldn’t get a fly more combo. I was surprised that it seems DJI really limited the free drones on this release, I only saw 2 with a preview. Keep the great videos coming

Good review Ian as always. You pointed out some good stuff the gimbal issue and just seen on another video the controller doesn't show you on the map so would need to be on a hotspot and no extended battery for us. Will not be upgrading unless something happens with my mini 2. Enjoy your break bud

Got mine today, Friday 27th, along with the fly more combo. Just waiting for the batteries to charge.
Very good review. You mentioned the upward angle that the mini 3 has when hovering. That is so when you go forward with the drone it will now be level which cuts down on wind resistance.

Thank you for your honest first impressions, not having spare batteries available at release does seem very odd in hindsight, hopefully they'll be along soon. As someone new to the drone hobby (3 months) and with a Mini 2 I see the Mini 3 as a fantastic bit of kit but I'm not rushing out to upgrade, I can improve my flying skills and learn all about photography using the Mini 2 as at the moment its capabilities outstrip my abilities.

Definitely going to get this drone. Great video! I think DJI counts on obstacle detection and APAS to prevent damage to the protruding gimbal.
Brilliant Review Ian received Mini 3 the other day I too could only get the new RC and Drone charging is a nightmare as you say had to order a 30w charger I am impressed with the RC as you say never thought about the gimbal being the main weak spot if you crash good observation I have taken out the DJI refresh for 2 years because you never know look forward to your flying reviews

Great review Ian. I will most definitely be upgrading when they become readily available. I always use the manufacturers genuine chargers for each of my devices. I had a warranty claim rejected for a non DJI product a few years ago for not using the genuine charger and in fairness to the manufacturer it was detailed in the warranty conditions. Suffice to say it cost me dearly!

I managed to order the RC version last night after missing out on the initial batch, but cancelled it this morning due to being unable to find any spare battery options whatsoever for at least a month - the Fly More kit looking maybe 2 months away. Looks like a great bit of kit, but I can't be living with just one battery for months.

For me a charging hub is important as you could be flying while other batteries are still charging hopefully later we will have the option to buy. I bought a separate charger for the DJI Mini 2 via America, which can charge 4 batteries simultaneously within 1 hour. I have a charger for the car from the same brand, which can charge 2 batteries at the same time. I also had the charging hub, but with the DJI Mini 2 it took almost half a day to charge. If a battery is empty after a 15-minute flight, it's not much use. Kudos to this channel. I have been following this for years because of the calm and clear explanation, without there seem to be any commercial interests. An example for the many money wolves who are busy for days, do not really earn anything in comparison and meanwhile do everything that the provider prescribes. I have never understood such stupidity, but luckily our holiday man 😃 from London is not sensitive to this. Thx and keep it up Ian. I wish you a very nice holiday and nice (drone) weather.

Hi Ian, as much as I know how passionate you are about flying and how you clearly enjoy making the reviews, I just want to thank you for taking the time during your holiday. As usual, your unbias opinion is much appreciated. Have a mini 3 on orderfrom dji but made the silly mistake of ordering drone and all accessories to be delivered in one package, so weeks before arrival. Take care my friend.

Great video some very good points about the sound seem really quite and the gimbal protection with the sensor is ok but if it was to slip out of your hand or get knocked off a table or catch a branch could be very expensive repair to so could be a problem tbh.. still will be interesting to see some footage and comparisons with the air 2s and the controller looks very nice well made and bright.
Isn’t the trade off with the gimbal pertruding with no longer getting that jog effect also the gimbal lift but added to that obstacle avoidance so I’m guessing if your in the woods at some speed without that on you have basically got no one to blame but yourself 👍
The camera can rotate up to view above. That is the reason there is no brow.

Thanks for the honest review, first one so far... Yes Jessops emailed me about the fly more, they said it would be in next week... 🤔 So they are holding the drone until I can get both. As far as the gimble being vulnerable, yes but at least it has the front sensor... I might find some way of adding something light to give it a chance if the worse comes to the worse...

cheers Ian for a true and honest look at the drone. I ordered mine on day one...with delivery date of early June...Then cancelled the order from the dji site cause I thought amazon could supply it earlier....but nope so replaced the order with dji and banged me back 4 weeks till early July.......oh well I look forward to your updates so I can be ready for my delivery.
Keep checking local shops like Argos, Currys & Heliguy.... They're getting new stock in weekly..

I wonder if a couple of bits of foam such as are used for door draft reduction (you can gets lots of different thicknesses) and which have adhesive on one side might be attached to the two white body parts on each side of the gimball. They would be pretty negligible weight. Might not be pretty???

Did you not notice how sensitive the controls where. Maybe its because i skipped the 3 and moving from an air 2s but it seemed lightening quick with the slightest push. Easy sorted but first thing i noticed.

Ian good demo video as always, I heard you mention regarding the mini 3 combo package, I managed to get mine from a camera shop in Wales yesterday delivering today Sat. Also updated my Mini3 and I had noticed you can now use the Mavic air 2 on our RC controllers, you might already no that by now, it be interesting if Dji add any others in time, also the 8bit has been updated to 10bit. 👍
Ah, so you can control the Air2S with the new screen remote from the Mini 3? I knew that was coming; great it's already here! :)

Very interesting first flight and first impressions Ian. Definitely the design with the front of the drone is lacking, especially if the first thing to hit is the camera/gimbal. Still a nice upgrade to the Mini 2. My pre-order is still stuck in a DJI warehouse somewhere in China even though I ordered within 15 minutes on release morning. I ordered the Mini3P with the RC (screened). I also ordered the FMC with the larger batteries. I did split the order to preclude the FMC from delaying the drone/RC. My hope is that DJI will do a firmware update to the DJI RC Pro that I already have to make it compatible with the Mini3P.

I must have got lucky ordered direct with DJI on launch Mavic 3 Pro + DJI RC + Flymore and all arrived Thursday this week. I can see the sticks getting lost so orderd a spare set and some NDs from DJI yesterday, they arrived this morning

Would be interesting to see if the center position landing struts puts it at a disadvantage compared to the Mini 2 stability wise. Gimbal longevity was definitely not given a lot of thought. Also I've heard numerous reports of the new controller not having the transmission range of the Mini 2 remote.

I got my Mini 3 Pro with RC controller on Wednesday the 19th and the shop say the Flymore kit will be sent either today Friday 20th (no news updates yet) or Monday they say.
