The new DJI Mini 3 is a new mid-priced drone from DJI, priced between the Mini 2 and Mini 3 Pro. It packs a 4K HDR camera and a host of other features, so I show you what's in the Mini 3 Flymore Combo and the prices of the different packages you can get. Then I take it out for its first flight and show the camera features of this very capable new little drone with all the freedoms of a sub 250 gm drone.

Happy flying everyone.... Ian - Наука та технологія
DJI sent this to me in advance for me to put through its paces; I've made sure I've kept things objective and factual and I'm doing a few more comparison videos over the next couple of days 👍🏻 Cheers, Ian ** Remember to IGNORE any replies asking you to contact me on Telegram; scammers keep trying to get you to pay for postage for a prize that doesn't exist.**
Another excellent presentation, has convinced me that the Mini 3 is going to be better value for money than the Pro version despite losing a few bells and whistles.
The real Mini 2 upgrade! I can't wait to fly the Mini 3!
Wow! Another new drop again from DJI! Drone looks very capable!
This is an excellent review, my Mini 3 arrives tomorrow and I feel I know so much about it already.
great vid ian thanks
Another top notch review Ian 👍 I like it , and it’s so quiet and you didn’t have to raise your voice to get over the sound….yes I’m quite impressed…and it’s not a bad price.
Just bought the drone on its own and using the old mini 2 controller also bought the fly more combo, great upgrade option, sold the mini 2 so only cost me £250 might upgrade the controller at some point but no issues with the old one, looking forward to the apk coming out for ios active track. Great to see a video of positivity on the mini 3 for a change. Keep it up
Great review as always Ian 👍
another excellent review.....thanks
Nice one mate … exciting times ahead with the way DJI are going. Very excited to see how advances in technology make the sub 250g drones way up there with the more expensive and larger models.
Cheers Glyn! Yes, given the dog's breakfast of rules we've got, sub 250 gm models are the way to go. .... Did you get your Mini 3 Pro in the end?
Well done mate! super happy for you, Great video
Cheers Gavin! Thanks for the good words!!!
absolute cracking review, job well done
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks - great vid!
I currently have the original Mavic Mini. It's a great drone but the setup can be time-consuming, especially with a folding phone! This looks so easy to get out and fly, would love to upgrade! That controller looks brilliant
Yes Ian I'm in the UK thanks
Very impressive. Had heard a Mini 3 was rumoured but wasn’t sure it was actually happening.
Good first look video Ian
Thanks Ian!
Thanks for the info. Great presentation. Mmmm.
Great! Can't afford a Mini 3 Pro but this one I have the budget for!
good video mate im of the same option no obstacle avoidance only reason I would buy this is for the wind resistance love my air2s but this is worth buying for the freedom for sure.
My dreams drone 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Looking forward Ian matey! Egészségedre! Cheers!🎉
Cheers 🤠🤠🤠
Great review
Thanks!
Thank you!!!
This is a really interesting video Ian. Although I didn't know this drone existed until this video, I've been nodding along at what you're saying. If I get one, I'll probably go for the drone only option and use the basic controller. BTW, I like the Jackson Hole T-shirt. The nearest I've been is watching the UA-cam view of the town square on my smart TV. Whenever I spend some time looking at it, it makes my log fire seem a little bit warmer. 🙂
Yep, and at -6'C this morning in rural Essex, I'll be getting my fire going too :)
Thanks again for another informative video, i have been trying to justify the extra cash to get the Mini3 pro but with this little beaut i might just spend the ready's on this, i must admit the follow me mode was a big selling point for the pro but i cant have everything
The kind of video I like 👍still chuffed with my pro and as yet don't feel hard done by :)
Good man
As an owner of Mini 3 Pro I really would miss the feature to shoot time-/hyperlapses. Otherwise OccuSync 2 is in my eyes enough. I would just ask DJI to make available a flight with the DJI RC with the Air 2. If there’s possible to switch between O2, O3 and O3+ it shouldn’t be a problem to make this update.
Thanks for your videos. I appreciate the factual, down to earth manner in which you communicate. Your enthusiasm towards the RC controller encouraged me to take the plunge. A second or spare drone also seemed like a good idea and needless to say it was more cost effective to bundle it with the newer Mini 3. My only other is the Mini 3 Pro. And so began the fun and games. I must confess to personally have been to blame for the lions share of the issues but the DJI Service facility has been exceptional. An issue I am still battling with might be covered amongst your library of DJI information, if so please just point me in the right direction? The root of the problem lies in the area in which I am required to fly. It is rather heavily restricted because of an airfield in close proximity to my home. The bottom line is that I am required to agree to various condition, the majority of which come immediately after take-off. A time when the RC controller automatically disconnects both wireless and Bluetooth connections. Keeping the connection alive and agreeing to the conditions that are required consume a good 25% of the battery capacity thus complication and detracting from every flight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Bill G
Hey Bill. Yeh auto switch off of Bluetooth and WiFi is there to improve flight performance by supposedly reducing wireless interference. Haven't really got a solution except to suggest getting a Plus Battery (if you get them on eBay, message the seller and ask specifically if it's the extended flight time battery). That way, you'll have extra battery! 🤠
@@IaninLondon Thanks Ian, I'm working towards Unlocking my area although I'm not holding my breath. I'll let you know of the outcome.
Fab introduction and looking forward to comparison. Apart from camera- not much difference with the mini2??
In truth, no. The RC would be the biggest upgrade!
Good review Ian its lovely little drone. Is it possible to extend the flight times on the Mini 3 Pro as they have the same batteries with maybe an update of the firmwear ?? It Would be great if that was possible 😁😁
Fraid not Karen; the extra flight time is coming from less hardware (no OA) and less processing power consumption (again no OA and also lower video transmission).
love your vids. and your place is so cool.... what kinda crop is that next to your house? as a farmer in the usa just curious
At the moment it's fallow. Will probably get Sugar Beet in there shortly.....
Thanks for the great review, Ian. I am very happy with my Mini 2 and Mini 3 Pro. I think I have convinced myself not to add the Mavic 3 Classic to my family. As you say, the Mini 3 Pro and its little brother, the Mini 3, are QUIET. When I fly my two drones if people come near they may greet me politely; but they often just continue on their way. Cheers from Wisconsin.
Hey George! It's brilliant that most people passing by just view them as toys ! If you have the Mini 2 and the 3 Pro, I really can't see a reason to add the new Mini 3 to your collection. Cheers, Ian
@@IaninLondon Thanks for your response and good advice. I learn a great deal from you.
This is probably my next drone. I think obstacle avoidance was overrated and it did not guarantee you crashing. I was not interested in tracking subjects as well. I did love the pro 3 camera/gimbal spec though. Any idea when these will be in the shops?
They're available now in some retailers; Heliguy still had a Flymore Combo package as of now....
Couldn’t help noticing the signal strength indicator kept dropping even though only a couple of hundred meters out . Nice review though as always
Yep. There's a chance I was facing the camera instead of the drone at times 😉
Hi Ian does the new avata update effect us in the UK? Just wondering incase i need to return it to shop. Not connecting my phone to fly
great video thanks. I'm wondering now which to get. Quick question, doesn't shooting at 30fps edited into a video at 25fps make the image 'shudder' a little? cheers!
Yes it does; v annoyed that I left the res & framerate on default for my first flight, which clashed with my 25 fps review video. The actual video file is fine....
@@IaninLondon Cool, thanks for that Ian. Keep doing the great videos, I find them really informative.
Great video ! Can I ask - I’m no expert on video production- can you still get nice smooth looking slow mo from the video formats available on the MINI 3 ? I know it doesn’t have a slow mo mode but is it possible to get good slow mo from the modes available by use of editing software? Would you have to use 1080 60 fps ? But then lose HDR ?
You can't make a slow mo video out of a standard frame rate video because you will end up with jerky jumpy movements between each frame. It won't look good....
Never fails to amaze me how good your wee dog is around the drones. Both mine absolutely hate it,infact Lou in my profile picture wants to rip it's heart oot 🙄
Yeah, in fairness they've long got used to it, although Ted the Westie still goes mad when I start it up and it takes off..... :)
Auto or fixed focus lens?
Hi Ian great video! I bought a new drone to get into proper drones I've started flying my new drone 2 weeks 5th flight yesterday sooo happy with it!!! Today there has been an update to dji fly app 1.8.0 to 1.9.0 and previous have caused range problems in Europe on ce version from what I've read so I'm very hesitant to update. It could be worse it could be the same but if it's better I would love to know! Please if you could make a video on how the new update effects the mavic mini and mini 2 if you can I really need to know with my mavic mini tho it's not even been 24 hours so it's very early so there's no update atm I guess in a week or so if it effects mavic mini it'll be posted everywhere. But I just need to know really
Welcome to the drone world! In truth, most DJI updates do bring benefits and very rarely cause issues. But you cn also argue that if your drone flies fine, you can wait a few weeks before updating unless it's brining a new feature you really want. There are always some rumours that an update affects range but I've not experienced an issue so far... Cheers, Ian
@Ian in London Thanks buddy!! I am so happy and can't believe the capabilities I think I'm going to stick to 1.8.0 eith fcc and parabolics I get miles in urban areas
I noticed how the RC signal dropped even though you were only a few hundred meters away!
Great video and helpful to me as someone who is considering getting a drone for still photography as I'm an enthusiast photographer who uses an Olympus OM-1 and 3 PRO lenses for my photographic hobby.
Would this be a 'good' drone for me to start with and keep under the sub 250g CAA regulations , to be able to create and capture quality images with it?
The Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro have essentially the same camera for stills; both put out raw files. But if you're only flying on countryside, then consider the Air 2S as that has a 20Mp larger sensor and is even better for stills, but is well over 250 grms....
@@IaninLondon Thanks again and as I live in rural west Norfolk most of my photography is outdoors in the countryside, landscape, seascape, beaches and quieter places.
Not considered the Air 2S as I'm not fully conversant with the CAA flying regs, which I'll read up on .
Would a used / pre-owned Air be a good purchase foe a newbie like me ?
I looked at the Mini range for size and also the RC Controller pack , rather than having to use my older mobile phone .
Would the Air work with the RC Controller?
Thanks again for your suggestions.
You need to click the Videos tab on my channel and look back through a few videos. Check out my 8 drone review where I talk more about the air 2 s and compare it with the Mini 3 Pro. I wouldn't recommend the Air 2 as that's a similar sensor to the Mini with more weight. The Air 2 S is the model with the larger 20Mp sensor. 👍🏻
A useful test, if you have the time, would be to compare the range of the Mini 3 with the Mini 3 Pro given that the antennas are reputably in the legs of the Mini 3 and possibly more efficient than those of the Mini 3 Pro. I seem to remember there were signal issues when you flew behind a small tree with the Mini 3 Pro, or that might have been the Avata.
Good call.... I'll have a test.....
@@IaninLondon I'd love to see a range test between the 3 and the pro model. Really the only thing holding me back from getting the 3
as a mini 2 owner I don't believe the price is worth upgrading to the mini 3, not even spec wise. I might upgrade to a 3 pro once the used market drops in price.
Fair point.... For me, the RC would be the biggest upgrade when going form the Mini 2 to the Mini 3 :)
does this also lack downward sensors? because I saw in the spec it has a lower max descent rate than the pro
It doesn't have downward OA, only downward vision (1 camera and two Infrared ) for help with landing.
So this will work with the mini 2 controller as well right
Correct; that's the RC-N1 controller.
Today M3 GETS A NEW FIRMWARE with waypoints 😊😊😊
Hi there what charger do you recommend to use to charge battery’s
Here: ua-cam.com/video/9MVc_LeDINw/v-deo.html
Are there any differences in image quality between the standard DJI mini 3 and the DJI mini 3 pro ?
If you look at the specs, there's a slight difference in the extreme 10km vs 12 km range, but otherwise the same....
I bought the mini 2 in June have only flown it about 5 times to date,I want to know what temperatures I can fly it in as it's 0 degrees up here in Durham at the moment I would love to fly it over the fields if it snows or even at the moment, but I am not sure if it's safe to do so or what temperatures I can fly it in when cold
Keep the batteries in your pockets until you fly; you're good to fly down to around -5'c or so....
@@IaninLondon cool thank you very much for your help,I will do that,I have used your videos in how to set it up very useful and informative
New video up on flying in freezing weather :)
@@IaninLondon thank you I have watched it and gave it a thumbs up very useful indeed
I've noticed that the Mini 3 Pro with Fly More combo can be purchased new in the UK for £899. So, I don't feel that £828 for the non-pro version is much of a saving. I'm not bothered about Obstacle Avoidance, but I would like the POI and Master Shots that comes with the Pro version. I have the Mini 2 at present
There were some deals over black Friday.... You're right if course. Under £100 difference is worth the Pro 👍🏻
No sensors…dealbreaker. It’s weird companies put out good product one year, and the next year bring out the same product with less features and expect lots of sales. I’m basically months into the drone hobby and am glad I bought the mini pro 3 with all the sensors. Any drone without obstacle avoidance is NOT a beginner drone, it’s a nice extra drone for someone who already has experience…just my opinion, though.
That is why I brought the mini 3 pro as a first drone a week ago. Because of weather I have only had about 1 hour or more flight time. I am nervous flying atm, but the obstacle avoidance was what made it for me. Tomorrow in the uk it’s going to be better weather, so I am looking forward to getting up and starting to try and take some beautiful images of my home city of Bath.
So the mini 3 is the same weight as the pro version? Even without all the sensors?
Yes. Extra weight for the legs perhaps?
At 23:44 is that a strobe flashing on the front leg?
Yes; I'd picked it up and started talking without switching it off....
Why, when there are no obsticle avoidance sensors, is the drone not even lighter than 249g?
Probably the same weight will give it the same wind resistance.
@@ApHInspires I understand the wind resistance problem. But what did they add to make it the same weight???
@@RobertWildling Guessing the legs would add some.
That image stutter at under 200 m is not good. Most shops have now reduced the price of the mini 3 pro by about £60 most odd
They had for black Friday..... Checked yesterday and they all seem to have put the prices back up again...... 🫤
Can I use the DJI RC with the Mini 2 please.
No
@@garygroom7 Thank you.
Good evening Ian I would like a little information please. I have the new mini 3 Pro. Can I fly it at night? I'm seeing a lot more footage at night, which looks impressive. I've looked for information but I can't find any. The mini 3 Pro has lights on it, which you're aware of, so the line of sight should be OK. I like to stay within the law so any information is greatful
Thanks
Going by your bike videos, I'm guessing you're in the UK. If so, then yes, you can fly at night. Rules tell you to take extra care and make use of lights which the Mini 3 Pro does have. My advice; stay close and don't push the battery.
Can’t own DJI as I live in a restricted area in proximity to Washington, so geofencing kills it. Plus I would never agree to the terms right there on the first page of the doc that says you give DJI the right to use your data however they want.
I still fly my Mini 2 and after having owned the Mavic 3 and Air 2s, I'm going to wait until I can afford a drone that has a camera better than a smartphone with propellers! Yes, the Mini 3 is ok and if it's a first 249g drone, I'm sure it's very good. BUT, I still have photos taken 15 years ago with my first DSLR (an 8mp Canon D350) and even now it still blows drone image quality out of the water! I still sell prints from it, blown up to huge sizes...I've tried upsizing drone images and they fall apart without too much effort!! DJI...give us an affordable DECENT camera!!
I think the Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro genuinely do have better cameras as their pixel size is the same as the Air 2S. If you want a bigger step up, you'll need the Mavic 3....
@@IaninLondon I had a M3 - was still not impressed, maybe I had a duff one. It was taken back. There was some advantage with the variable aperture, but was very soft at the edges of the frame. I conclude that the optical system just isn't up to the job. I suppose it's years of using expensive glass on DSLR's/SLR's. The pixel size does make a difference, but mostly in low-light.
ps...I mostly take stllls, not video, so I guess I am a bit picky about image quality
@@crispy_otter Then I think you need the Air 2S or Mavic 3; they're brilliant for stills....
Sorry Ian but I found the whole video to be very jerky nearly all of the time you called it video lag, but it appears on your main video so something seems amiss in my opinion. Keep the videos coming. I am one of your subscribers.
Sadly I left the settings in the default settings of 1080 @ 30 fps, but my video is at 25 fps. Didn't realise until editing and couldn't shoot my "first flight" again! There is definite occasional jerk and delay on the screen recording, but the actual recorded video is fine.
Did you buy it Ian?
This time I got it sent in advance, but I've kept things completely objective and factual. It helped that you all know how much I had been rating the Mini 3 Pro 😀
@@IaninLondon You always do bud. Is it a keeper or are you to send it back? If it's a keeper I could do you a deal on two Budgie's swap. One never shuts the @#@@ up
I'm defo keeping for the time being 🤣
Footage seems to have a jerky look to it, is that from the edit, or the UA-cam compression or is it like this on the original footage? Seems to be a common theme on most reviews of the Mini 3 Pro and now your Mini 3 video. Thank you. 15:11
I've checked the actual file footage and it's not jerky. One issue I had was leaving the video settings at default on take off; it meant it was 1080 and 30 fps; my review video is filmed at 25 fps. Check out my video on Sunday for flying in freezing conditions; that was Mini 3 in 4K at 25 fps.
No ISO or Shutter priority?
No, it does have this; full manual mode; check 13:20
@@IaninLondon ua-cam.com/video/tI2cRHvjQ8M/v-deo.html is different to ua-cam.com/video/8wvojEmnuJ0/v-deo.html there's no yellow "Auto" buttons beside ISO and Shutter settings.
Ah! My apologies! I think they're still tweaking the settings. If you notice, the advanced gimbal settings have regressed today back to how they were a few weeks ago. I'd be surprised if they don't add those Auto buttons soon. Will ask them...👍🏻👍🏻. Thanks for the pointer
@@IaninLondon Have just checked my Mini 3 Pro, running 1.9.0 on the RC the gimbal settings are the new version with combined Expo settings, the yellow Auto buttons for ISO and Shutter are still there.
I think removal of ISO/Shutter priority could be another in the list of missing features on the 3?
We'll see once things settle down a bit.
Anywho... with the new spin on VLOS.... OA is arguably redundant.
If I ever melt my Mini 3 Pro or reverse it into a waterfall, I definitely won't be buying another.
Bruce Xjet is right, when laws are out of step with public sentiment and not complied with, change will come.
Evo Nano Plus por ~$550 will remain a better option, probably (vs mini2 end mini3)
If you're happy to only fly in very light wind and turn off the obstacle avoidance. I found the nano+ a poor drone. 🫤
@@IaninLondon The wind issue has been updated and improved, but the dji mini really are still better.. but for that, they need to kill battery life.. so it's never good to fly minis, with wind.
I have just noticed the new mini has feet compared to the Pro 🤔
Yep 👍🏻

I think
Very nice review, Ian. I have the Pro, and it is interesting that they improve the flight times on non-Pro version.
Will you like to hazard a guess whether the improved flight times are down to a lower video transmission resolution of 720p or perhaps a lack of APAS onboard obstacle avoidance taking up less processing resources ?
[edit] Just found out that the architecture on the Non-Pro version is Ocusync 2 and based on the rationale at 5:34min of the following video :- ua-cam.com/video/VNb9eqbIuUw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MadsTech
about transmission bitrates, they are probably "driving a lot less data" on the Non-Pro. Hence the 720p res....which would increase latency some (probably the reason for your micro-stutters on your video feed), but improves the range.
Anyway I'm no tech-head but this is just me thinking aloud as a layman
Yes; tomorrow's video mentions this; down to slightly less hardware, no OA and less processing....
Ok lets address the elephant in the room ... does it have the transmission issues like the MM3 PRO? What's the range stated with this one? That vid feed judder does not instill confidence either, but will keep an open mind until after the extensive testing that I'm
sure this will undergo by various Tubers.
Fair points; specs state same range and it does have the same transmission power specs too. Video feed judder needs more testing....
mini 3 and 30 fps by 4k ? shet
Is this one a Free one from DJI ????????........ If it is don't sell out like Darren has/did
As per pinned message....👍🏻👍🏻

Darren is a good guy! 🤠🤠. But I have no tats planned 😀
RC signal dropping at 400m hmmmm...... thats worse than Mini 2
Another new model? Slow down DJI...
Mini 3 is slower than Pro, write to dji, they send you new instructions.
Dude. It's the same speed as the Pro except for descent speed. If you don't like my stuff, jog on to another channel. Do your homework and check things before making all these smart arse comments
That is so stupid DJI don't include the most important part that will get you in the air... The charger
If you have more than one drone, it makes sense not to include one each time, but how many people is that? I agree they should at least give you the option at purchase to bundle it in.... That said, I have a single 65w Anker charger that does my laptop, phone and drones. This one would be a good charger for all the Mini drones: amzn.to/3BqeqSJ
Seems you are Dji doll and read dji instruction, not all is true and objective. Not all quickshots are present. Camera sensor is same, just locked with sw. Pixels are not biger, etc.
Maybe watch yesterday's video on my comparison when I go through these things in detail.... Pixel sizes are the same as the Pro and the air 2 s, and I mention exactly what's missing....
Ian, was it you that put up the text t you in telegram? Hopefully it's not another scam.
