    hey, love your videos. I'm a sea scout form 6th trinidad and your bushcrafting tools have helped me out in the bushcraft section in scouting.

    +ANGELSTANK Many people including men and women find it difficult to get used to batoning through piece of hardwood. She did a great job and it is nice to let people know that. Sounds like you are the one who might be a bit of a toddler.

    reminds me of the best knife design ever made, the (Puma White Hunter) the spine is sharp for chopping so you never dull your front cutting edge. I will get one and modify it to see if it can work similar to the White Hunter for a lot less money maybe as a beater. I always use a hatchet for wood splitting.

    I love Schrade knives. I own several. She did a great job. Must be in great shape. Batoning thru thick wood can take some stamina.

    Good video. These larger Schrades look interesting, and appear to be a really good value. I would lean toward the one with the straight edge as the recurves are more difficult to sharpen.

      +Blake Kennedy most schrades are good value.

    Enjoyed the vid. I'm a big Schrade fan. The Little Rickey looks like a good one, but too small for my taste. I just ordered up a Leroy and am looking forward to putting it through it's paces.

    I've been saying for years that knife companies need to ditch that plastic powder coat garbage and use titanium nitride, now low and behold Schrade finally goes back to it.
    Seriously, any one that thinks that a traction coating on a knife needs their head examined.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  9 років тому +1

      +TurtleWolf Pack the titanium works well. My favorite coating is PVD used by Spartan knives and Southern Grind.

    • @turtlewolfpack6061
      @turtlewolfpack6061 9 років тому

      Living Survival that coating I am not familiar with, but I will research it!

    If weight is a big issue. i.e. you are carrying it in your backpack and walking a few miles to a campsite, I guess you would opt for the schf28 rather than the bigger heavier knives (Leroy, Jethro).

  • @southpawbushcraft7522
    @southpawbushcraft7522 9 років тому

    In your opinion, what are the pros or cons for that fat belly uneven bottom type of blade on a knife? By the way she did an awesome job batoning that wood! That was hard wood and it is NOT easy to get through! I think its awesome you include her like that :) Great video! All the best, Dawn

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  9 років тому

      +SouthPaw Bushcraft Hey Dawn, I like a belly in larger knives for chopping and when batoning harder wood. The center of the belly digs in quickly and the rest of the knife provides the power to split. For this size I would rather take a BK7 or a bushcraft sized blade but on knives like the Jethro I love the belly and really like bellies on larger chopping style blades as long as they aren't thin like a true machete.

    • @southpawbushcraft7522
      @southpawbushcraft7522 9 років тому

      +Living Survival I ask because It seems they would be a great chopper and dig in with that wide head better. I don't get to try these out and I am interested in some of them, I can't go out and buy them all so I really appreciate you answering questions it helps a lot trying to determine what really is a good choice :) Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.

    Good idea to have someone inexperienced check out the knife. That's not saying I like the knife because I don't like a false edge on top but the idea to have someone that doesn't know about knives test it is a good idea.
