    I've been a big knife man myself for a long time now, I like the multi use nature of a good large bowie. The SCHF45 looks like one I'd like for a pack knife. I'm currently carrying and have been for probably 6 years now a Timber Rattler Classic Bowie and for $20 it's a great beater. I haven't even considered replacing it until now. Thanks for the review.

    Hey Brian, your video made up my mind. Im ordering a SCHF45 for my jeep bag. I got a kick out of the way you just turned nonchalantly and stuck the schf45 on the first throw. Whats your background ? Military , LEO , or just a plain 'ol outdoorsman? Keep the good videos comming. R.O.

    Hey Bryan,
    I keep coming back to this video since I got my F45 Leroy. I still can't understand how Schrade could put out such a big knife for only $45.00. I took my F45 out into the woods the other day and it really surprised me in how nimbly it chopped for such a big blade, even at ground level. Also, like you said I didn't get any hot spots and the knife felt secure in my hand. This would also make a great tactical knife if you had to use it that way.

    Bought one of these knives and it was delivered today... It sat outside in 20* weather so it was cold when unboxed.... Try as I might I could bot get the knife out of the plastic sheath. I let it sit for an hour and tried again...nothing. Let it set for 5 hours and was finally able to break it out of the sheath. Knife is great... Took the plastic off the knife and inserted it back to the locked position...and it took most of my strength to get it out. I have several dozen knives that have both plastic and Kydex sheaths and have never had one this tight. That and the fact that when the knife is in the sheath one can not grab onto the handle because the belt loop is solid inflexible plastic so only 1/3 of the handle can be grabbed... Excellent knife but they need to provide a better/safer sheath.

    I bought this and as i was testing it out in the forests of the lowland Rockies i was attacked by a huge 8 foot tall 800 lb male mature Grizzly !! I quickly did my Rambo roll to the left then swiftly back to the right on a low trajectory. Slicing open the Grizzes belly as i followed through. Then i quickly swung around to his back, jumped and mounted his upper hump and drove the Bowie down between his lower neck and shoulders. Severing and shattering his spine. When i woke up from my dream i found i s**t myself !!

    I'm kinda new to survival stuff. With fire steal is it better to pull the fire steal to you or push the knife away from you? Good video tho.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  9 років тому +2

      Hero brian Actually, I say whatever works for you. Some folks say to pull the steel so you don't knock your tinder away but I seem to get better results scraping toward the tinder. You just have to be careful not to hit it. A good fire steel and sharp edged scraper make all the difference in the world, however you do it.
      Since you are learning I will offer one piece of general advice. If you find something that works for you and you are getting good results, don't be afraid to try a different way but also don't pay too much attention to the folks who will tell you you are doing it all wrong. There are some really opinionated folks who will repeat everything their favorite "expert" says as the only correct way and trash anyone who dares to do things differently. Don't let them get you down. The bottom line is results.

    • @charleslarson3152
      @charleslarson3152 9 років тому +2

      Survival On Purpose That's sound advice Bryan. For example, if one were to need a fire in a tight terrible situation, and you're caught out with a knife that has a rounded spine, well Hell!!...use the rear portion of the blade. As you said......"The bottom line is results."

    Good video Bryan. I think its so funny how folks in videos are so afraid to cut a sapling out in the woods. We have folks around here bulldozing ACRES of trees and shredding them to make way foe office bldgs., mini malls, housing tracts etc. Don't worry about whacking one small junky tree.. One day, we will see people ripping up asphalt to plant corn.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  9 років тому

      James Cooper I don't think it;s a big deal either but some folks do. The place I shot this video is quickly becoming a trash filled dumping ground. It really makes me mad but it isn't my land.

  • @WanderABit
    @WanderABit 7 років тому

    Thank you for the review of the knife, but gee... there are dead branches lying on the ground, behind you is dead trunk, but no, too obvious, let's cut some "almost" dead tree. So you cut entire tree just to DEMO the knife, fantastic. What next? Killing a (almost dead) whale just to demo new harpoon? Live the way you don't do any harm -- is this concept too hard to grasp?

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose

  • @paulie4x1

    Say Heah Brian Dundee, "That ain't a knufe,this is a knufe" Bruan, Brian, Brian, everytime they make a decent knife, they mess up on the steel, they use less carbon steel, and sure that makes it stronger, but I want my knife for what it's made for, and that's for cutting, what's wrong with using tge 1095 CroVan, Chris loves his Jessica, or is it his Becky, I think Becky, it's a fairly large blade and he praises it when chopping and cutting, infact he said his BK-7 is his go to field knife, but when he designed his chopper he went with 1075, what's up with that, sure you can sharpen a knife to cut with, but for how long. anyhow it's always nice to see one of your vids.

    Last week before the kids went back to school, I thought I'd take my next door neighbor kids fishing, the little bluegills must of been to small to catch but the kids had alot of fun screaming I almost had one, and we ran out of bait really fast. So I wanted to brag my skills and I remembered how good frog was to catch bass, so I started looking for a frog, I found a frog, but it was in a Cotton Mouths mouth. So I took a big stick and pressed on the snake and very carefully I picked it up just behind the head, boy I could see how angry the snake looked as I tried getting the frog out of its mouth, so I reached in my back pocket and took my little flask of Jack Daniels out of my back pocket and poured a little in its mouth, the eyes rolled, and it relaxed so I was able to get the frog and place it back down without a problem, and I continued to fish with the frog for bait, all of a sudden I feel something tugging on my pant leg, when I looked down, here was this stupid snake with two frogs in its mouth !, heh heh heh

      I think they could just label the old ones as different steel and most people would never notice a difference. Not that there are no differences in different steels, I just think the difference is not as significant as the marketing departments want us to think.

    Say Heah, I don't think this video is because of the cookies, But we do have similar taste. I recently bought a Large Bowie. I bought it in my 2nd Ka-Bar Limited Edition. The 1st ine was the BK-20 BK-20 Bundok Bowie made out of a 1/4" thick 1095 CroVan, it came with the BK-4 and the BK-5. The Bundok is around a 11" Bowie. There were only 450 Kits sold and I think I bought the last kit, because I thought the price would go down, Until I realized it was selling for a real good price. Because I waited too long, I paid $250.00 for that Kit. So I didn't wait as long I bought this kit for less. But this BK-29 Moses Bowie which is a 1/4" shorter, but with a little stronger tip. It also came with the BK-5 which now makes my 3rd BK-5, No problemo, its discontinued and I think it will be a collectible. But it also came with a Snody SnakeCharmer, its a intergral design made out of the S35Vn and its just what I needed for a neck knife for my new bush craft trio. Anyhow the Moses Bowie l@@ks very similar to your SCHF 45 Bowie. You do have good taste.,,.

    Why don't you do a review on the MTech Xtreme Raptor Bowie. It looks like that one but it's bigger, stronger, and sharper! I think you will love it.

    yes,but you're not allowed to go round in public places, I'm a survival instructor with the army reserve our version of the national guard so I only use it on training areas which is fine. atb.Russ.

      ... Depends on your State Laws about Fixed Blade knife and size vs open or concealed...
      Here in Florida, any Fixed blade greater than 5" is Legal everywhere, but must be Open, Visible on you person. Big 10" blades are hard to conceal anyways unless you're wearing a Trenchcoat, Duster Jacket, etc..anyways...
      I'm still debating in my head, getting the 45Jethro or a Rtak2...

    Want a drain hole? They're easy to create with a small drill. I wouldn't want one in a sheath like this because it keeps water out.

    Thumbs Up! Really,
    Looks as if throwing the 45 comes easy with the balance being thought out when designing . Do you know if there company has one particular person who designs knifes and what his name might be? Thanks, good review

      I still take a hatchet. Leroy goes on the left, hatchet goes on the right of the belt I use in "gunbelt" fashion. There are times when you just need a hatchet. It IS an amazing knife tho without a doubt.
