@@PaleHorseShabuShabu Dean just made a signature of the Icon that Miyako usually plays. It has more of a blue center to the paint scheme. My guess is after Dean lost the lawsuit with Gibson, they needed to replace the V, which they're not allowed to make anymore.

Amazing she can reach far enough to get the cymbal crashes but she does and verry well. The rest of the band is off the chain as well.
The drummer, Haruna is her name, is using red sneakers to play her double bass drums and hi-hat. At the end of the show, she changes to high heels and goes to the front of the stage to throw her drumsticks to fhe audience. And to get the final applause together with her bandmates.

That's how my reactions when I heard them for the first time....and it's the same with every new song I hear from them....I hope you keep listening to them because they deserve it....
Haruna, drums, wears Red Sneakers. She goes "Full Tilt Boogie" for an entire concert, rumor has it she is nuclear powered.. Midori, ponytail, quit Pharmacy school and began playing the guitar at 20 yo. Miyako, black hair, began piano a 3 yo, at 17/18 yo she decided she wanted to play metal guitar. So she got a guitar and a "How To" book at learned, NO lessons. Asami, vocals, studied ballet until her late teens. At 4' 10" she is bit short for ballet, so she became a singer. Sang primarily R&B and Jazz. She knew nothing about metal until Miho, bass & band founder, chose her for Lovebites.
They have performed at music festivals in Europe and toured with Dragon Force in England prior to covid.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Lovebites is one of the best bands in our country. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

I think a few people have suggested "Swan Song" with Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor) as the intro. That's where you will find out what they do with the piano.
The piano is played by the guitarist on stage left, Miyako and sometimes by Asami, the lead vocalist.
Fun crew you got there. Thanks for doing this reaction and thanks to Lynn Smith. Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics.
They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters.
This is one of their usual first songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Miyako is also a professional-level concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. They've become my favorite band. Right there with Nightwish, or even eclipsed them slightly (though I still love Floor and Nightwish). I think Lovebites is the greatest heavy metal band to come along in decades and Midori and Miyako are among the best guitar duos ever to play together. Haruna is unreal on the drums. Miho will be missed for sure, but they added Fami recently. If you come back to them I recommend Thunder Vengeance live from Zepp, or any from the post from TheCyberMantis. Live is best!

when it comes to metal these japanese ladies are top notch, now if you want to step down a notch to hard rock, there is also a 5 piece all ladies band from japan called band maid, and when it comes to rock they are top shelf, i recommend you listen to them live, i would suggest "Domination" Live, like i said when it comes to rock and metal this is who i listen to now

The drummer, 4'9" tall "Big Engine" wears a pair of sneakers while she is playing, and the other members wear high heels.
Great to see you really enjoy your first exposure to Lovebites. BTW they have a connection to Nightwish in that they have studio and live concerts mixed and mastered by Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila at Finnvox.
Well done on finding Lovebites... arguably the best metal band of the last decade and, in the opinion of their fanatically loyal fans, one of the best of all time. If you'd like to hear a good song by them, my suggestion is that you write down every song they ever wrote on a piece of paper, close your eyes and stick a pin in it. They're ALL good songs ranging from absolute bangers to metal masterpieces. As to a couple of your questions; Haruna, the drummer, plays famously in a pair of red pumps but is always careful to change into her heels before coming out from behind her kit to acknowledge the crowd. She needs all the height boost her heels can give her since she's only 4' 9" in her stocking feet! The other elephant in the room is the grand piano (actually it's an electric Roland piano dressed up to look like a concert grand). That beast is the baby of the dark haired guitarist on the Dean guitar. Her name is Miyako and she is the (slightly) mad genius at the heart of the band; the main composer and a concert standard classical pianist as well as a world class guitarist. If you want to hear her cut loose on that beauty here's a song you'll appreciate. It's called Swan Song and it's a bone fida Lovebites masterpiece;

Another phenomenal Japanese female band is Band Maid. They're Jimmy Pages favorite band. He loves the drummer. Again, another Japanese band the Rocks hard! The tune "No God" is really good. Listen to Misa's bass lines. Talent on loan from God. Japan still Rocks!
Lovebites surpassed all other videos on this channel in views. However, these people don't do a 2nd reaction video of Lovebites or other top bands like Band Maid and Nemophila. This ignorance is the problem for all fans of all Japanese female metal bands. I will never understand, it's sad.😢

These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. They really shine in their live performances. Their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Helloween, Angra, Judas Priest, Dragonforce, and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. Miyako is also a concert-level classical pianist. Asami used to sing R&B, soul and jazz before she joined Lovebites. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just six years.
Currently the band is in the process to announce the new bassist. In an interview, Miho (ex bassist) said that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Gotta check out Nemophila another girl band from Japan. They're all outstanding musicians. The tune "Life" sort of went viral. It was written to welcome the drummer back from maternity leave. It's premise is about becoming a mother. Not representative of the girls music. They're Metal!

I enjoyed watching you all be impressed with LOVEBITES. For a bit of eclecticism, "Empty Daydream" has Miyako playing a Rachmaninoff piano excerpt leading to Asami showing some of her R&B/Soul cabaret vocal origins, then, well, not this intense at all, but rockin' for sure!
